Hey there, and welcome aboard to the RPC and to FFXIV! To dive into some of your questions... There are three different avenues you can pursue for network: a free company (guilds), linkshells (private chat channels with some guild functionality) and freelance networking (making a Making Connections post here on the RPC). There's a lot of every one of these different avenues too- including lots of particular niches. For example, in the case of free companies, there are FC's based around Miqo'te tribes (Shroudwolf Clan, Morbolvine Clan), there are FC's based around criminal underworld (Mischief's Coven), FC's based around treasure hunting (Azeyma's Oath), or even general research and knowledge (Guiding Light). As for linkshells, there's ShroudLife (for wilderness RP'ers who like to get out of the cities) and Hydaelyn Protectors (chaotic good vigilantes). I want to stress this is just the tip of the iceberg too- there are hundreds of groups here on the RPC, and plenty more that aren't! That aside, as you level and progress through the main story questline, you'll unlock the game's features including dyes and equipment appearance changing (called glamours). You'll also unlock the barber at some point too. The short of it is, if you see a quest ! that has a + next to it and it isn't "So You Want To Be A ... " then you'll want to definitely do that quest as it unlocks a game feature. You'll want to keep up with your main story questline (the quests with a flaming ring around the ! mark). Hope this helps! And, if nothing else, you're welcome to run into Kasi sometime too. For the sake of convenience, I link a bunch of these different organizations and linkshells in my signature.

balmung Bookish Pirate & Shut-in Merchant LF RP!
Thunderbolt300 replied to Roro's topic in Chronicled Connections
Yeah, can do! I'm generally on nightly from 5-11 PM CST, and all day on weekends. Happy to stage an encounter! Putting you into the LS is probably best too- I think we hit our membership cap last night anyhow. We can work something out later if you change your mind. -
balmung Bookish Pirate & Shut-in Merchant LF RP!

Hey there! In the case of Pentral, I'm gonna make you an offer you can't refuse (or you can, who knows). The Mischief's Coven is essentially the organized mob, and Pentral could likely find employment there (certainly by the sound of it, she'd be a good fit). You don't necessarily need to join the Coven either- we employ private, non-FC contractors via an IC LS as an alternative to membership so you can get in on jobs. The Coven operates a hole-in-the-wall tavern 'front' for its operations- all you need to do is show up at the tavern and order a 'bloody mary' to get a back room meeting where the particulars are worked out. Beyond that hook, there's also the possibility of simply running into Kasi! She's a veteran mercenary, trader, cook, and occasional bartender. Although she has a strong bias toward Miqo'te, she isn't exactly racist and can get along well with just about anyone. With a good 12 years of mercenary work under her belt and 5 in the Gridanian military before that, she has a good number of stories to tell. Either way, best of luck on the hunt! -
Hey there, and welcome aboard to the RPC and to Balmung! Personally, I'm of the mind to focus rather narrowly on developing and writing a single character at a time. More-so in FFXIV than in other games, investing solely into the progression of a single character tends to be rewarded (especially with things such as being able to class-change at-will, cross-class skills, and not having to repeat the MS questline over again to unlock all the game's features). When you've got a good handle on where you want to go though and plan to start throwing more time at the game and hunting down RP? I'd recommend tossing up a Making Connections post here on the RPC too. Beyond that, you can hit the Quicksand Adventurer's Guild in Ul'dah for PUG RP, and there are a ton of little hole-in-the-wall places you can go to in the housing districts as well. The community is utterly massive, so there's a whole lot out there to explore and see!

Yeah, if anyone is interested in ShroudLife, I link it in my signature. It's a good spot to link up with other players out in the wilderness for some shenanigans. The more connections the better, I figure. As for taverns? Yeah, I tend to agree; it's not typically the pinnacle of meaningful RP that's going to lead to ample amounts of character development. Now, taverns with an ulterior motive behind them, on the other hand... Not that I'm biased, or anything. Ahem.

I can't offer you a partner, but the part about "working alongside neutral beast tribes" caught my attention. You might be able to run into a fair number of people in ShroudLife, which may give Niobe a bit of a budding social life out in the wilderness. ShroudLife is catered very strongly towards people who operate on their own or in small groups outside of the major cities and taverns. Regardless, best of luck on the hunt!

Hey there! So, I can offer to throw Kasi your way for starters; she's a wandering mercenary, trader, merchant, and occasional bartender these days, so she can show up just about anywhere on the road. She's pretty severely pro-Miqo'te as well; there's not much she won't do to help out people she considers to be kin. She's also fairly pragmatic, and of course has some criminal connections as well. Beyond that, there's also the ShroudLife linkshell, which is for wandering wilderness RP- basically anything outside of the main towns. I imagine you could find a lot of freelance people here to interact with, and you're certainly welcome to it! Both of these are linked below! Hope this helps!

balmung Bunch of crazy characters looking for action!
Thunderbolt300 replied to Ysolda Merwin's topic in Chronicled Connections
Hey there! So, I can offer a few potential directions here depending on what you're interested in, and expand on some others that've already been mentioned to you here. Funny how that works. Anyway! First off, there's ShroudLife. If any of your characters are interested in wandering, wilderness RP outside of the major cities, this is a good place to get it. While it was originally tailored more to Keepers in the Shroud, it has since become more diverse than that and now focuses in general wilderness survivalists, hunters, and traders all across Eorzea. We have one event that runs every 2 weeks. Although I cannot take credit for the concept (that belongs to Gehr'ir), I now manage the linkshell- so if you have any questions, feel free! Second, there's Hydaelyn Protectors, which is a vigilante group linkshell you can get involved with. Deahfel is your primary contact over there. They err more into the chaotic good spectrum, so if you're looking for some throw-downs, that's a good direction to go! Third, there's the Oath, which you already know about. Good folks! Guiding Light is also a pretty good lead and is an opportunity to pitch in and help a new FC grow, too! There's also Shroudwolf Clan, which is more event-driven similar to a Dungeons and Dragons campaign that happens 1-3 times a week for a few hours. Fourth, there's Mischief's Coven. Granted, this is much more of a niche than some of the others as it is the organized mob. We tend to be very community-oriented as we have a public tavern venue that's a front for the organized crime connections, and we run/participate in events as community antagonists as well (working with other players and groups OOC'ly to make sure conflict is smoothly executed is kind of our major deal). You don't necessarily need to join the Coven to participate in it, either- the tavern is public so you can show up there anytime, and we have a LS for private non-FC contractors too. Last but not least, there's just plain 'ol Kasi, whom you're welcome to run into sometime. She might not be an FC in and of herself, but she's out and about on the road often and can be run into pretty much anywhere. Suffice it to say she's a wandering mercenary, trader, cook, and frequent bartender. For the sake of convenience, I link most of these in my signature at the bottom. Now, all that said, a lot of these groups naturally have some cross-connections, too. The Coven and Oath are, for example, literally next door to one another and the memberships mingle a bit here and there. There are a number of Coven people who're also members of ShroudLife, and some of the Shroudwolves will pop in the tavern to relax too. All in all? It's a big community out there, but you'll surprise yourself in how much you can run into people by connecting yourself to the ecosystem in any manner of ways! Regardless, best of luck on your hunt for RP! -

[Balmung] Looking to Dive into this wonderful game.
Thunderbolt300 replied to Phobias53's topic in Chronicled Connections
Pst. Hey. Hey you. Yeah, you. I got what you need! If you're interested in diving into the criminal underground and making some gil, well... I might know some people (spoiler: go to Lavender Beds, Ward 12, Plot 50- order a bloody mary and your descent begins). Granted, the Coven primarily operates out of Gridania, but you don't need to join the FC to participate. Otherwise, I think C'io should be able to get you taken care of pretty well, myself! -
Hey there, and welcome aboard the RPC and to your imending transfer to Balmung! If you're looking for specific connections, creating a Making Connections post would be a great way to start! That'd be a good place to go if you're looking to shoot off into a particular direction (such as criminal rings, mercenary bands, vigilante groups and so on).

Hey there, and welcome back aboard the RPC! Any particular FC niches you're interested in, or are you looking for general ones?

Hey there, and welcome aboard to the RPC! If RP is the thing you're after foremost, you'd be best served by moving onto Balmung where the bulk of the RP community is. Apart from that, FC reputation, outreach, and marketing are all vitally important to the success of a FC. Having a clear direction you want to go is a good idea, too! Best of luck!
-
Hey there, and welcome aboard to the RPC! When you've gotten all settled on your character and have a good idea of where you want to go, toss up a Making Connections thread. You'll get some good contacts from that to kick you off and get you moving!

There are definitely FC houses set up like taverns that are open to the public pretty much almost all the time. The Coven is one of them! We usually post it up on party finder and get a good 10 people in there and the chat scroll is way more manageable. Even then we're usually open even when the party finder isn't up.

Not much more I can offer here in terms of advice- I think everyone else covered it wonderfully. Nevertheless, welcome aboard to the RPC and best of luck on your hunt!

balmung Friendly Miqo looking for LS/anyone!
Thunderbolt300 replied to omnoriaaa's topic in Chronicled Connections
Hey there and welcome aboard the RPC! So, there's a good few directions you could go here, depending on what you'd like most. First off, you can run into Kasi sometime if you'd like- she's not likely to have been in the old gang, but she is kind of a Miqo'te supremacist and a mercenary with a good number of criminal connections with organized crime. So, she gets on (at least initially) pretty well with her kin. She's also a wandering trader and cook to boot. It's entirely possible there might be some kind of a past connection somewhere in there! Second, there's ShroudLife if you're looking to do a lot of wandering outside cities and avoid large groups of people. Granted, there are a lot of Miqo'te in this LS, but it's a good opportunity to break out and get in with people from all over the community all at once. There's both a Discord channel as well as an in-game LS. Third, there's the Coven. If you already have an FC, that's fine- joining the Coven isn't required to be linked to it. The Coven is essentially the mob- organized crime that tries to avoid legal entanglements. The Coven employs independent contractors on a per-job basis, so you can find work there as well as kindred shady people to RP with as well! Independent contractors have access to our IC LS for shenanigans. Forth, and on the other hand, if you want to shoot to edge into the good spectrum, there's the Hydaelyn Protector's LS for more good-aligned vigilantes. In any case though, I hope this helps and good luck on your search! -
So in this case, I'll just wave too. o/
