  1. Whee! I can offer up Kasi as a connection here- she's pretty much concentrated anti-shy as it stands with as obscenely inclusive as she is (kinda have to be as a trader). She's also armed with free food, which usually works to keep people from running away. So, I can think of a few possible encounter scenarios to build a connection off the top of my head between Kasi and Mimifu across a pretty wide range, depending on what appeals most to you! Mimifu could encounter Kasi in the Canopy in New Gridania when she visits to check the job board for new mercenary contracts. Kasi usually sticks around a little bit afterward to get some drinks and relax, before moving on. It's a cliche encounter for sure, but it works! Mimifu could also encounter Kasi out in the wilderness in a few different ways. Kasi does a lot of her own hunting, as well as trading, out in the Shroud. She usually sticks to the Central and South Shrouds, but has occasion to roam more widely for merc work too. She usually tends to camp in the wilderness as well, so if Mimifu is destitute and living in the Shroud, she could run into her like that as well. Kasi is, of course, a mercenary, so if Mimifu is looking for a guide or a bodyguard, Kasi has the reputation for being a merc who is unique for always keeping her word. She's had 12 years to build that reputation (and 17 years of combat experience). On the flip side, if someone else took a contract targeting Mimifu (for whatever reason), Kasi could easily turn into an enemy too- granted that she has her own personal honor code and isn't going to strike a defenseless person. Kasi is also best classified as an anti-hero; she has the potential to be a corrupting influence and even potentially a mentor, but it takes some effort for her to warm up to non-Miqo'te. You're of course welcome to browse around Kasi's RPC Wiki page as well. Any of these ideas could easily be combined (and probably will too). Let me know if anything tickles and we can set up a meeting!
  2. I'm personally of the mind that whatever you decide to do, if you have thought it out really in-depth and plan to portray it accurately and in detail, you can make ANYTHING work. In this particular case, I think you've got a home run right here- I think your take here is pretty great overall. Garleans make a good excuse for just about any atrocity, too!
  3. At 18 years old, you could probably play off their young age as the reason they're not too wise to the lore of the world. You could also do the amnesia too (though you do need to figure out how they got it- like a head concussion or the like)- nothing wrong with that! Either way, you don't need to get overly complicated here- a basic backstory is all you'll need and you can fill in the gaps later as you go. This pretty much holds true for both Au Ra and Lalafell- just pick the one you like most aethetically, and then go from there! You won't need to do much more than read the Wiki page for both races to have the basic idea you need. Once you're off and going, your environment and the other characters you encounter can help with shaping the character's destiny.
  4. Hey there, and welcome aboard to the RPC! Using the Making Connections forum might be the best means of starting out. I can understand being a little timid with joining an alien community and just starting out, but people are pretty friendly on the whole! You won't have a whole lot to worry about.
  5. I can offer a run-in with Kasi perhaps! You can poke around her wiki page below- see if anything sticks out to you in this particular case as a connecting point! Kasi can be a friend, an enemy, just a road contact or a few other things.
  6. Interesting! Kasi has a "rescued" slave she's caring for these days, and trying to rehabilitate. Her name is Y'nora. Might be some potential connections there between the three of them, considering what I'm reading here seems to suggest that Vel is a former slave too. Any thoughts? You're welcome to browse Kasi's wiki page below- let me know if anything tickles!
  7. Hey there! You just looking for some walk-up RP or are you looking for some more long term connections? In the latter case, anything in particular you'd like to shoot for?
  8. Sorry for the late reply. Holidays and all that kept me busy. But I'd definitely be interested in the offer of a LS o/ Maybe FC too but I might have one possibly. Depends on how that works out. Kasi sounds fun too~ Even if just loose acquaintances (not that they necessarily would be!) Especially with her laid back, friendly personality and preference of wit instead of violence. No problem- just about everyone is coming out of the busies now! Feel free to read over the ShroudLife linkshell thread in my signature. There's an open Discord invite there too- go ahead and join it if the thread tickles. You can also add me on Discord if you like too- Thunderbolt300#0807. Either myself or someone else can invite you in-game, but I'll be traveling most of today to get home. I can also invite you directly into the Discord channel too if you'd prefer- you don't have to announce yourself that way! Would love to have Kasi run into you though, so sign me up. Someone to trade wit with would be pretty entertaining, and who knows?
  9. Welcome aboard to Balmung! Here's some good starting points: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/forumdisplay.php?fid=53 http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/forumdisplay.php?fid=15 You can also make a post in the Making Connections forum if you know what you're looking for, and would like to start networking.
  10. Welcome aboard if you decide to join us! The others have pretty well covered everything. Am RP'er. Can confirm.
  11. As other have said so far with Balmung being as congested as it is server transfers are also being blocked at the moment of this post (I have a friend that has to wait, so in the meantime they are getting through the story, learning their class and just taking their time). This part can be a bit daunting but I recommend taking it all in slowly, learn about crafting, learn about combat, Getting your Mount, doing Dungeons and the works. Once transfers are allowed again and you thoroughly enjoying yourself I would then recommend Balmung. The Community here is most welcoming and they have been since the game relaunched (I have no prior experience of what it was like before hand). I wish you a warm welcome though and hope you the fairest of journey's. Enjoy the ride, and I'm certain this game will be with you for a long while. Can you verify this? Although it says transfers to Balmung aren't allowed, you can indeed initiate and complete them last I checked a few months back (for the $18). The SE site discription for transfers is erroneous.
  12. I'm mostly going to echo Merc here, who has done a bang up job already in answering your questions. Balmung is the place to be, and it's worth the $18 transfer fee. Git 'er done! The RP community is pretty massive, fairly wide open, and you can expect a month or two of ramp-up time before you're standing on both feet. The key here is to network as much as possible, which leads into your next question. Network, network, network- the more inclusive you are, the more outgoing, the farther you're going to fly. Networking with other players is much like chasing the horizon- you will have duds, you will have disappointments, but it is worth doing every. Single. Time. Create a Making Connections post here on the RPC. Look at linkshells. PM people who have characters that look compatible with yours. Do everything you possibly can to put yourself out there- those two months of ramp-up time will condense and will go a whole lot faster. In any case, welcome to the RPC, welcome to FFXIV, and welcome aboard!!
  13. Kasi certainly wouldn't shirk from that kind of work- entirely possible she could have made the body dead in the first place if she was doing a bounty on some outlaw (dead or alive, only he convinced her to be taken dead, or the like). She could just as easily show up to find Domi taking care of it too. In any case, I would be happy to have them meet sometime soon!
  14. Hey there! Welcome aboard to Balmung! Few things pop into mind right away as potential leads... For one thing, Kasi is a highly experienced (~10 years) mercenary who runs jobs pretty regularly and doesn't have many misgivings about taking shady work, so if Domi takes a job to go off and do something, Kasi might show up as an obstruction to getting that job done. While Kasi could show up as an enemy, she eschews violence if she can help it- there's no, "BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD" in there. Well, much- it's generally bad for business if you go around offing people all the time. Going off that, Kasi takes some time to warm up to non-Miqo'te, but she's someone that could train up-and-coming adventurers and mercenaries, both in terms of how to do business and how to actually fight (though she specializes in greatsword and lancework). It might take a few encounters to get to that point. Aside from Kasi herself? I know there are a few other newbie adventurers and mercenaries in ShroudLife (see signature below) that Domi could find kindred spirits in (and you'll most likely encounter Kasi through them as well). That's nothing to say about Domi being able to make contact with wilderness traders and other contacts along the road- adventuring will take her out of the cities, and it would help to be able to find the RP'ers out there! S'all I got for now! Hope that helps a bit- let me know if anything tickles!
  15. Sounds like a pretty neat character idea with a lot of potential! I'll admit that Kasi probably wouldn't have a whole lot of cause to run into her, so the ideas I have aren't terribly fantastic- but I'll toss out a few anyway. You're welcome to browse Kasi's biography though and let me know in the off chance that anything catches your eye! As far as ideas go, if Higan is destitute and wandering at the moment, she might be able to find some kindred spirits in ShroudLife to run into along the road (Kasi among them) and potentially other Au Ra as well who are a part of the linkshell. Celestine, Shroudwolf, and Glowfly Exchange would probably have some use, as FC's, for a caretaker for their homesteads (Glowfly especially, but really any FC for that matter), so that'd be an easy option if you find a FC that you like the cut of. Kasi can offer limited work to some degree as well in the interim, depending on what you're looking for. In any case, best of luck on the hunt!
  16. We should be current on all the posts up to this point now, but if I missed anyone, please harass me!
  17. I honestly don't know, since I'm out around 9 PM Pacific. That being said, you're welcome to use the Discord link above and join the server at least! I have seen activity in Discord (the following morning) for after 10 PM Pacific, so you can ask around that time if anyone can invite you. I'm under the impression there's a few late night people. Wish I could give you a more solid answer on this.
  18. Kinda sounds to me like you've written the character into the corner of a silo that she needs to be broken out of now, because the silo no longer suits her, which isn't something that's terribly hard to do, thankfully! Hopefully I've got the right general idea here of your problem. I would suggest finding some linkshells with a similar vein to Yul, or even creating a Making Connections post for her with what you'd be interested in trying to find with her (possible directions, ideas you've got, and the like). If you lack ideas entirely, then just throw her out there and get her interacting with other characters. Those characters may give you some ideas, or even give Yul some ideas directly. With a wider range of contacts and networking, you'll have a lot more doors open and a lot more directions to go with her, and you can avoid getting trapped because Yul betrayed a particular niche.
  19. Done & done! Y'all can go ahead and use this link to join the Discord channel: https://discord.gg/SzzsgtJ From there, you can pester either myself, Sanrai, or Gehr'ir to plug you into the in-game linkshell whenever you're ready to rumble! The only real requirement here is that you've read the OP's, which I'm sure you have- as long as you have cause to want to interact with wilderness survivalists or wilderness traders or just the wilderness in general (doesn't even need to be the Shroud), you've due cause to join up! The whole group is very welcoming to new folks, so- welcome aboard!
  20. Welcome back to Balmung and to the RPC! Sounds like a pretty cool concept and startup! Best of luck! If anything, I would expect Kasi to end up on the wrong side of any knightly order.
  21. Welcome aboard to the RPC! Sadly I don't have a whole lot to contribute here- you'll have to do some digging on Jenova to find anything, I'm sure. Balmung has a barrier to entry, but it's worth the move over if what you're looking for is primarily RP. In any case, best of luck!
  22. Welcome back to the game and welcome aboard to the RPC! Be sure to create a Making Connections post here on the RPC once you've got a good idea on where you're aiming to go!
  23. Absolutely! Granted, most likely it may take a couple encounters for it to take that deeper turn, too! I'll be around for sure- my play times are typically 5-11PM CST on the weekdays, and all day on the weekends. You're welcome to ping me, either in-game or via Discord too, if you have that!
  24. Pshaw. Believe it or not, I make most of my posts from work. It keeps me occupied and breaks up some monotony in the office. It's no sweat at all- keep asking questions as long as you've got 'em! Far as RP activity goes, Ul'dah wins out by a landslide. There is RP in Limsa at the Drowned Wench, but it's nowhere near the scope, quantity, and 24-7-rampage of Ul'dah's Quicksand. That being said, this is purely just walk-up RP- you can make some connections via this means but it's by no stretch required in the least bit. I, personally, have never RP'ed in either location, but am able to find plenty of RP off the beaten path just traveling around and arranging encounters with other players regularly. It really depends on what you'd rather do or are comfortable with. Recurring encounters with the same characters will happen more commonly with a FC, Linkshell, or through creating / responding to Making Connections threads. This is the means I primarily rely upon for getting into RP, and I've found it to be surprisingly effective. If I had to compare the two, I'd say that walk-up RP is your on-demand, one-shot RP in general, where you can get some instant-action whenever you need it. FC / Linkshell / Connections RP is your more long-term, storyline-driven stuff that has a lot of lead time to build up, but ultimately pays off with more consistent output. The two certainly aren't mutually exclusive either. This is why I say... just make the character you want. You can survive any number of ways here and sate your RP appetite regardless!
