I just realized no one really answered this question for you, and I must have missed it on the first go around here. So, it really depends somewhat on the audience you have. My FC, for example, likes to do major events in Discord in more of a tabletop setting, so I had to adapt a bit to that in order to cater what players are used to. It's really a tradeoff with ease of access, more robust access to media, and being able to properly represent the persistent world of FFXIV. That being said, in-game events still have a pretty strong place in my heart too, but with those, you'll need to decide how open you want your events to be and how many players you can accommodate at once. Since there is a party limit of 8, if you want a plotline to be invite-only and otherwise closed, you'll have to squeeze the party into 8 players or use a linkshell for operating the plotline so you stay out of the generic chat channels. Otherwise, you may end up with some randoms tossing in. Still, when you get up to 8 players to a single DM, you're going to get overwhelmed pretty easily. At that point, you may need a wingman DM or two to help out there. Otherwise, you can just keep it wide open and deal with walk-ups also tossing in, but again, scale may be a concern there. On a more general note, one thing that I tend to do is to whisper players with the result of whatever action they take- say, a player examines a crystal fragment and, based on their mining skill, can determine various things about it. It gives specific players some ammo to take the spotlight, so you can spread that around as needed. Combat stuff can usually be broadcast to everyone. Aside from this? Just pick your location and get after it! As for RP though, you're more than welcome to hit me too- Kasi is usually wandering around Gridania somewhere, and while she'll stop in taverns on her trade route occasionally, she's not much of a tavern-goer. If you're looking for connections as well, we can certainly explore that too! Hopefully this answered your questions!

Hey there, and welcome aboard to your impending transfer to Balmung! Althena's concept sounds to me like a pretty good launching point for a new entry. I'm certainly willing to help out however much you'd like if you need a sounding board or are just looking for a connection (Kasi's profile is in my signature, which should hopefully give some ideas!). For the most part, you could simply jump into things with the mostly blank slate and allow her interactions with other characters steer her path ahead- this lends itself fairly well toward learning the lore dynamically as your character learns it too. It can make learning about the world much more interesting and interactive to boot!

Brand new to the server looking for friends. [Balmung]

Hey there, and welcome aboard to Balmung! You're certainly welcome to run into Kasi sometime for trade, cooking, or just banter. Still, if something in her profile sticks out, I'm certainly open to other ideas too! -
balmung Looking to put together a family, or fill a gap.
Thunderbolt300 replied to dlenoxx's topic in Chronicled Connections
Hey there! So one question I've got for you is if you're wanting something of a blood family or more of a "family" styled FC? Family styled FC's are fairly rare it seems- but that was one of the reasons that drew me toward Shroudwolf. Might be worth a look there if that's about what you're after! -
balmung Looking for friends/rp!
Thunderbolt300 replied to Minako Obinata's topic in Chronicled Connections
Hey there! Minako sounds pretty cool to me! I admit I'm not terribly familiar with the Oathsworn Vigil, so I don't know a whole lot about their values, but I think I can imply a fair bit based on the rest. I'd happily run into you sometime if you'd like- Kasi has great cause to wander around the world on jobs and a few storylines here and there. She's also a bit of a meat trader and cook, so there's a few potential hooks there. Kasi's biography is in my signature and you're welcome to have a gander- let me know if anything catches your eye as a connection. Apart from that, I'd also potentially recommend ShroudLife to you as a Linkshell (also in my signature). Although it is called "Shroud" Life, we have set up plenty of gatherings in La Noscea and Thanlan too- we kinda wander the whole world, depending on what folks are feeling. You're certainly more than welcome! Good luck on the hunt! -

Arala is awesome. That's all I got! -
Welcome aboard to Balmung! We can always use a few more dungeon masters to visit eternal suffering on the player base. Bwahahahaha!

I was promised there was Evil Roleplay in here. Oh. OH. Well, in that case, I can offer Kasi as a potentially bad influence (I'm probably underselling this), as an occasional run-in trader / adventurer, possibly even someone who will help her acclimate to society or letting her work alongside her on a job they could split the payout on. Kasi has a profile below in my signature, but she's pretty much an open wanderer, mercenary, and cook. Well, this is totally not the right place for this, but you may have just lucked out. Perhaps you'd like to discuss datacenter architecture, Active Directory and RADIUS implementations? We can even discuss VMware and the fact that the Cloud is, in fact, not the solution to all problems. [devolves into technobabble]

Glad you asked! Meat. Meat. Aaaaand... more meat. Bones occasionally. Sometimes sinew. But mostly? Meat. Did I say meat? Meat. Menphina save you if you ask for your meat to be well-done, though. We don't talk with people like that. Mmmm. Meat. I keep seeing you around, but being as neither of us has a connection post of our own, I'll just throw it out there that you're certainly welcome to run into Kasi too!

Balmung or bust! Also, as a guild master, you have to make sure new members feel like they're being actively included and are a part of the family. This can be somewhat problematic when you already have a somewhat insular group of friends already- they end up being the odd person out and that can drive them to leave if it's bad enough. Getting an "exit interview" when someone leaves is also not a bad idea- granted, they may not respond, but you lose nothing for trying.

Sadly, I think the FC listings are probably your best shot overall. If a guild is fairly active in-game and has a concept of some sort, I imagine they're going to be trying to market via the FC listings, rather than rely on word-of-mouth exclusively. There's probably a few exceptions, but at that point you're probably banking on just getting lucky. That being said, however, don't limit yourself just to FC's- hit the Linkshells too. A lot of them are linked directly with a guild, while others may give you the networking you need to find a guild you'd enjoy! For example, if you're looking for stuff in Gridania and adventuring, then I would strongly urge you to go have a look at ShroudLife (*points at signature*)! Good luck on your FC hunt!

Good luck on your FC search! About as much as I can say is to browse the FC listings, hunt down GM's, and ask a few questions to get a sense for the tone of their FC. That ought to give you a pretty good idea on how well your characters will fit in, and if they'll get the opportunities you want them to have. Generally, GM's don't patrol this particular forum very often (or at least that is my impression).

Hey there! You're certainly more than welcome to toss in- it's pretty much open-invite networking. The group is pretty heavy on Discord as well as in-game, so the first thing you'd want to do is get plugged into the Discord channel here: https://discord.gg/SzzsgtJ (You can also find this on Gehr'ir's second post of the OP, along with channel info as well!) Past that, try to nab one of us in-game and anyone can pretty much invite you. Soliciting in the linkshell for RP is strongly encouraged- might even find yourself a storyline here or there as well!

Tribal lifestyle and hunters are a pretty big thing for Miqo'te overall- the South Shroud Miqo'te have a TON of poachers, for example. There's more than a few class storylines that involve that too (Archer especially), plus even a quest hub for a Seeker tribe. Wilderness survivalists seem to be a central theme. Ultimately though, while Miqo'te seem to have a predisposition for it, it isn't a requirement. You can honestly be about as civilized as you like. Some Keepers have adapted to city life within Gridania, for example, and others take strongly to the adventurer / mercenary life, too. Still, you have to take into account how your Miqo'te will make a living (off the land or otherwise).

Think there's a wealth of speculation and lore sources here already, buuuuut... When it comes right down to a particular Miqo'te character, it's really a matter of character quirks at that point and having a bit of a more open and unique playing field when it comes to the variety of options available. You don't have to roleplay around with your tail and ears, for example, but that's an option. Same for purring, or even wanting to mark territory. There is the opportunity here to be diverse with how you envision your character being, after all! I've roleplayed with a whole lot of Miqo'te here in the last month and a half, and they are an incredibly varied lot. I've seen some that focus pretty heavily on their ears and tails to be expressive, while others have incredibly keen senses. I've even seen a few purr, and some where their tails are incredibly sensitive to being yanked. You can have a whole lot of fun with the options!

Good place to start is probably the Wiki pages- you can just browse around and see what tickles, pretty much! https://wiki.ffxiv-roleplayers.com/pages/Main_Page

Hey there, Miuri! I'll let the officers know you're looking for them today, and hopefully you'll have a bit more luck. If nothing else, feel free to tap me in-game and I will attempt to perform the complex summoning ritual to usher them forth from the great void beyond (please bring ample amounts of chicken blood, metal filings, maple syrup, and a 50 fulm length of coax). Hope to see ya around!

Welcome aboard to Balmung!

Hey there, and welcome out of the shadows! I'll just echo what's already been said- don't be afraid to reach out, and finding yourself a few contacts here and there can breathe a whole lot of life into characters. Linkshells, Free Companies, and even making a post on the Making Connections if you're looking for something specific... everything helps!
-
Hey there, and welcome aboard to the RPC! As a Miqo'te, I'd suggest hitting up the ShroudLife linkshell if you haven't already- there's a lot of good opportunities there to find some people and set up some encounters, so it ought to be a good starting point. I can vouch that it is as least active, both in-game and in Discord, so jump right in! http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=17424 Apart from that, I can offer up Kasi (profile below!) if something there tickles!

Felt like this needed a salute by itself. Having a proactive character is so much better than having a reactive one, but it also means you need to have kindling and fuel for the character to be able to keep them going. It can take a bit more effort and being a bit inventive with coming up with new hooks to use to interact, but it's totally worth the payout.
-
As with writing any particular story, you have to know your audience when you write a character. Ultimately, you're probably shooting for a particular niche of RP, and if you focus on that, you should be pretty well set. The best weapon a character has in their arsenal is personality though- put a lot of effort into coming up with something that's provoking and unique, and you'll go pretty far pretty fast! In the end though, it's all about having fun, so make sure you really enjoy what you're going for! Using Making Connections (both posting and responding) can offer you some good avenues, as well as joining Linkshells that fit with the character type you're going for. Regardless, I wish you the best of luck! You can do it!

Hey there, and welcome aboard on your impending transfer to Balmung! For starters, I'll toss you to the ShroudLife Linkshell over here, where you can find quite a collection of roaming Miqo'te roleplayers across a variety of spots. You should be able to easily plug in and start making contacts- it's pretty active and fairly inclusive as well. Some characters don't do so well in large groups, but that's about the only thing if anything. They try to avoid cities as much as they can, so if you're looking for a lot of world RP, this is a good place to try too! http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=17424 Aside from that, I can offer up Kasi here as well- there's a profile page in my signature which should give you a pretty good idea about how she can piece together with Miya (traveling merc, steak grilling enthusiast, big game hunter, trader, general wanderer and the like- probably wouldn't object to tutoring either). I'm usually on pretty much every night from 5 PM - 11 PM CST, and all the time on weekends, with some events I run here and there which might muck some availability. No pressure here either way though- think you got a lot of good leads here to start with!
