Well hello there and welcome aboard to the RPC! I get the distinct impression Asha might be a Miqo'te, so I will plug here for ShroudLife (in my signature) if you'd like to get involved with more kin. Otherwise, if you'd like to run into Kasi here and there, just drop me a line! Always glad to run into some new folks.

That LS looks interesting but I'm not sure my character is quite what they're looking for. She'd definitely travel from place to place and camp in the woods while adventuring but she's not really a nomad shunning city life. She practically has a need to go to taverns to listen to the latest news, gossip, or stories. Her mother would've fit in fairly well actually. Her dad on the other hand is a liiiitle overprotective of his only daughter and prooobably coddled her a little. Yeah, I figured it might be a long shot. Still, if you'd be interested in running into a trader or merc here and there, I can always throw Kasi at you. If the Shroud life ain't for you, then the Shroud life can come to you a bit instead!

Hey there and welcome aboard to Balmung! I'd suggest ShroudLife (in signature) if you're looking for open world traveling roleplay. Also, you're more than welcome to run into Kasi sometime too! If there's something in her profile that looks like a connection, just give me a tap.

Hey there, and welcome back! There's a pretty enormous community out there to get involved into, and your best bet is going to be a decent FC and getting plugged in with some Linkshells. Patroling these forums to meet other people looking for connections (like me) is a good way to make a few too! Zala sounds a bit like Kasi, at that. I could probably recommend ShroudLife to you as a way to get some exposure to the Miqo'te community and roaming RP as well. Beyond that, you're certainly welcome to run across me sometime too!

Hey there, and welcome aboard! I'd recommend ShroudLife to you- it tends to be pretty light-medium and you can find a good number of random folks to run into (including me). It's based around the Shroud and wanderers, travelers, and hunters. If you're interested, just hit the link in my signature! If Kasi tickles, you're certainly more than welcome to run across her too!

Hey there, and welcome back! You're certainly welcome to tap me if you like- Kasi is a wandering trader, mercenary, and odd-job explorer, so she has plenty of reason to pop up all over the place. I'd also suggest you hit up ShroudLife because you mentioned 'hunter'- probably be worth a shot! Farrell's also a bang-up RP'er. If you're interested, I have links to both in my signature! Happy hunting!

Hey there, and welcome back aboard to the RPC and FFXIV!

The name is familiar- I do remember the House of Grey and the League at least! I know I crossed blades with a few of them in RP-PvP encounters. I was pretty heavy Horde-side at the time leading the Shadarim and trying to be a thorn in everyone's side, but ended up good friends with the Knights of Menethil on the Alliance (somehow). Yulenia & Belaris were my main back then. Seems like there's a fairly good inflow of new players here in the game, so we're far from alone- I've talked with a good few other newbies too, and there's a few new posts in the Welcome Desk pretty much every week! I'm pretty much in your boat- totally clean slate, fresh start from scratch. It's actually rather exciting.

Hey there! Gotta say, this caught my eye after reading your wiki profile as being one of the more unique and rare character concepts I've seen around thus far. You seem to have a pretty good handle on where you'd like for it to go too. Hopefully you'll get some quality responses here. Right out, I can suggest ShroudLife for you as a means to find some more fellow Miqo'te players. You can find a link to that in my signature with the full disclosure! It certainly errs more on the wilderness side of the spectrum, which Nora seems to have some background in considering her past. It's a pretty good bunch and there's plenty of opportunities for random meetups here and there, buuuuuut... considering she's a slave, those might not apply so easily for her, unless she's allowed a pretty open amount of freedom to wander. I'll see about dropping you a PM here for the rest. Good huntin'!

Yeah, that's a pretty good point too. If it doesn't make sense for the character to be that class... then there ain't much point! Still, that being said, doing the main storyline quest the first time is a blast... but you kinda have to do it on all your alts too, and that will very likely drive you insane. Choose... wisely. I may still be only a few months into the game myself, so I can't claim to be an expert by any means, but I do at least have the Encyclopedia Eorzea and can try to give you a hand with figuring out any lore you might not be clear up on!

I was on Moonguard, indeed. Was on it way before the goldshire epidemic came around. Still makes me mad after all this time... *Seethe* At first when I launched the game from the trail version I was like: "OMG what is with this global cooldown?!" Couldn't figure out the map/quest system... rage quitted until the next day, and then the next day I gave it another try and fell in love. Never had that happen before actually As I've been playing I'm liking the story more and more. And the side quests are entertaining! The one that's really gotten me so far is the quest to unlock the hair stylist. I couldn't stop laughing! I haven't given much thought about my main yet. I made two characters that I'm in love with so far. The first is a Conjurer, simply because I am first and formost a healer OOC in any game I play, and she's a lot of fun to play. ...But then I made the Cat person Monjet Kaj'et Neko Miqo'te as a lancer, and she's adorable too! So I can't decide which I like more. I like healing, but ...kitty... Meow. >.< I heard this game wasn't too friendly with alts? You can't mail to yourself, and also you get cross class abilitys if you level up multiple classes on one? I don't suppose the words "COBRA" or "AEGIS" mean anything to you? The way you talked about it, it reminded me of Moon Guard during that era- it was pretty much a golden age for the game that hasn't been seen since. Those are some really good memories for me. FFXIV took a few tries for me to get used to as well. This time is when I took the bait, hook, line and sinker all and have been playing pretty hard now for the last 2 months-ish. Wait until you get to the Hildibrand questline. That is completely hysterical, and I found myself in stitches more than once- think it kicks off around 50! Once you hit the level 50 main storyline quest, that goes full-throttle-Riker-grows-a-beard awesome. You're in for a real treat. I was yelling at the screen at one point. It's good. Miqo'te master race. /grunt By the way, if you haven't noticed, you can have any character be any class- so just because you chose to start as a lancer for your Miqo'te, they can swap to a totally different class anytime you like! This feature unlocks along the main storyline quest- around 15 I think? It kind of makes alts completely pointless, save for aesthetics. And you're right- you can't mail to yourself- you have to mail to another person and then have them mail it to your other character. There are cross-class skills too which means leveling up all the classes on one character has a lot of payoff (so a lancer can use some monk and archer skills for example, once you unlock and level up those classes).

Hey there, and welcome aboard to Balmung! FFVII will always command a pretty solid place in my heart- not to mention being able to mod the hell out of the PC version and breathe some serious new life into the game. Well, at least until the remake. As for getting used to the lore here in FFXIV, the main storyline quest in-game will take you through a great deal of it right there, and if you have any questions, there's a ton of lore buffs around here that can help you out. If you turn into a fanatic, you can also pick up the Encyclopedia Eorzea, which at $50, is a lore-buff's silver bullet (though it can be a little hard to find being out of stock). I don't suppose you were on Moon Guard during the high tide of Wrath of the Lich King? In any case, you're certainly welcome to tap me once you make the jump over, or if you'd like some character connections or anything like that. Have you done any thinking yet on the character you'd like to main?

balmung Seeking connections for an interesting miqo'te!

My original PM to you here on the boards still stands as an open offer! -
It's an ic way to make contacts. For a while, a long, long while, I avoided anything that remotely looked like plotting or planning. And I'd go to the Quicksand, and sit at the bar, and just emote my character going about her business, slice of life style. And every time I did, she'd meet someone new, and out of that she got business opportunities and contacts who -- if I pursued -- I could have easily rolled into a plot. I've said it before, but just because you meet someone in a lull where there's no dragons being killed doesn't mean it has to remain that way. If anything, how a character acts in their day-to-day rounds can influence their character development. Besides which, sometimes a little slice-of-life can help a character process the dragon slaying or whatever big things are happening to them. I've had the most enlightening chats with strangers, in the past. Sometimes I help them, sometimes they help me. There's no reason why it can't be the same in rp. I'm not disagreeing with you at all there- in fact I totally agree! In my own personal opinion, putting in the time and effort to get out, network in the greater community, connect with other players- it's all excellent for leading into more stuff later. A more connected community is capable of great things. It's like building the foundation for the house. Yes, it's time and labor intensive, but there's a long term payoff there. You have something to build off of. It's just that not everyone is going to have the time or the desire to invest that heavily into a long term plan, in what is essentially random. While it is not my approach, I can sympathize with the dilemma.

Well, this definitely turns the topic on its head... it's an interesting question. I've run into this a fair bit too, and it's left me asking the same question at times. Some of it is simply a question of priorities: some folk are going to want to run content more than RP, and use RP to fill in the gaps or save that for major scheduled events. Others are going to prioritize RP to the detriment of everything else, so it's really a matter of personal preference. It seems to me that in a lot of cases, folk tend to shy away from slice-of-life / tavern-RP where the potential to encounter character development is fairly low, so there's not a lot of incentive to engage in that. Meaningful character develop occurs through conflict, events, and having an antagonist on-hand, and none of these things seem to be greatly plentiful in the community-at-large. At least, events of this nature are kept to silos, aren't advertised well, or are by invite-only. Still, slice-of-life / tavern-RP certainly has its place in the RP ecosystem- but it's filler, it's not the main content. Speaking of content, that's really the end-game. Generating content is done by a pretty small minority of the general player base, much less players who play bonafide villains and actively act as community-oriented antagonists. It's a face-off of RP content vs. PvE content, and while PvE content is low-effort plentiful, RP content is more difficult to generate, in much smaller supply, but when it is available, tends to win out easily over static PvE content.

Takes some courage... In any case, welcome to the RPC! Balmung is really your best bet for finding consistent, stable RP, so I'd strongly recommend the transfer if you aim to have that as one of your main reasons for playing. It's definitely worth it!

New to FFXIV Balmung: No stranger to Roleplay
Thunderbolt300 replied to Tina Darling's topic in Welcome Desk
Belated welcome aboard! -
Welcome aboard to the RPC! I can offer up Kasi here as a wanderer, traveler, mercenary, odd-jober, cook and grilling-enthusiast, so there's a lot of potential connections there depending on where you'd like to go! I imagine she'd probably get on well with Ai though if nothing else, for an occasional crossing of the paths. If something catches your eye though, feel free to poke me!

Farrell is an awesome roleplayer. More people should hunt him down!

Hey there! Welcome aboard to the RPC!

Welcome aboard to Balmung and the RPC! If you're looking to strike up some RP or seeking connections, just drop a line! Kasi's usually all over the place doing some kind of work or another.

Welcome aboard to Balmung! You're certainly welcome to drop a line if you'd like to get some RP goin'!
