  1. Ew, Sharran? You must be one of those filthy Selunites.
  2. I feel like I should roleplay with Lalafel sometime, considering that just about all I've encountered so far are Miqo'te. It's almost like they're an endangered species! Perhaps I can interest you in Kasi? Slowly points down to the signature
  3. Hey there, and welcome aboard to Balmung! I think the most striking change from going to forum roleplay to an MMO roleplay is the concept of a persistent world. That is, even when you're offline or doing other things, life goes on for other characters apart from your own- characters that your character may interact with occasionally or often. A good way of looking at it is some kind of a living, breathing ecosystem of interwoven stories that form an ultimately ever-changing fabric. There's always something going on, which can be both awing and overwhelming all at once. It can definitely take some getting used to, but I've always felt it carries with it something of a more realistic and immersive take compared to other forms. This is the Dungeons & Dragons campaign that never stops or ends!
  4. Hello and welcome aboard!
  5. Hey there, and welcome aboard! About as much as I can suggest for lore sources that are easily accessible is probably the wiki, which has at least some basic information: http://ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com/wiki/FF14_Wiki Beyond that, I think the best way to get familiar with it all is just to play through the game. This is one of those games where quest text is often story-driven, especially in the case of your class quests as well as the main storyline quest. The storylines are actually anywhere from fairly decent to completely awesome, so they're certainly worth the time in doing!
  6. Little late, but welcome aboard!
  7. Ooooh, another NeverWinter Nights veteran? Well, welcome back to Balmung! I think Maril hit the high points here already, but if you're set on playing a Miqo'te out in the wilderness, then I do have one recommendation for you over here, which may be worth a shot for your time: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=17424 Hope to see ya around! GLORY TO SHAR, LONG MAY WE DRINK OF THE WELL OF OBLIVION *cough cough*
  8. Sounds like a pretty interesting proposal here- it caught my eye. I'll drop you a PM here!
  9. This write up is frankly amazing- I've been trying to find some time to sit down and actually shoot a reply since it was posted. I'll toss you a PM here shortly with some ideas and you can just tell me if anything tickles!
  10. Welcome aboard! Pull up the linkshell and free company listings, make a connections post- plug right in!
  11. Kira's got the right of it! It's $18 but it's worth every penny. I did this same dance those few months ago. No regrets, even just to move Kasi over. The window to get onto Balmung is pretty much gone these days though. I think paying is the only real option now...
  12. I'd also add that Linkshells are akin to custom chat channels in other MMORPG's, only they have a semi-guild-like structure with a master and leaders to moderate. There are Linkshells for pretty much anything. For example, I'm in a Linkshell called ShroudLife which is for a bunch of Miqo'te who do roaming RP generally around the Shroud (go figure- you can find the post for it here!). Your mileage will vary somewhat, just the same with FC's, only you can join up to 8 Linkshells at a time (I think- it's something like that). You're in for a hell of a treat with Heavensward. I picked up the game about 2 months ago to pull through the last of the end of 2.0 content and recently moved into post-3.0 content. To call it an amazing journey would be an understatement! And that's nothing to say for the optional side quests like the Hildibrand questline which has had me in stitches more than a few times (it's a good questline for some hilarity to break up the often times heavy-handed nature of the main storyline). You got a lot to look forward to and it'll be like drinking from a firehose... but it's worth it!
  13. Welcome to Balmung! Other than what's been said already, hit up the Free Company, Linkshell, and Making Connections forums here on the RPC. There's a wealth of stuff out there just waiting for you!
  14. Welcome aboard to the RPC!
  15. Yeah, the official forums are in stark contrast to Moon Guard's. I was a little surprised myself. The bulk of RP activity is here on these forums, I've found. I'm much in the same boat as you are- tackling content is all well and good, but it's RP content generation that keeps me coming back. As far as potential trees to bark up, I'd highly recommend this one if your profile picture is indicative of the character you're aiming to play: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=17424 Beyond that, you're certainly welcome to hit me up! Kasi has reason to show up just about anywhere anytime. She's usually doing a job somewhere for someone. In any case, welcome aboard!
  16. Welcome aboard! Have a gander at the Free Company, Linkshell, and Making Connections spots here on the site- they'll definitely get you started!
  17. Welcome aboard to Balmung! You'll need to mail the gil to another player who can then mail it to an alt. It's a really haphazard way of doing it, but that's what I've heard is the only way to do it. Otherwise, you can buy up items on the marketplace to resell when you reach Balmung (currency conversion, pretty much).
  18. This one might be a potential lead. There's a lot of folks in the LS that grew out of this connections post who are heavy on the Gridanian side (much like me). About the only thing I can think of, offhand, at least. There are a few Shroud-based FC's too here and there. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=17424
  19. I've already welcomed you once, but what the hell- I'll do it again. Welcome to Balmung! Enjoy your stay, and hopefully run into you here sometime soon, too!
  20. Welcome aboard! Best starting point is probably to start combing the FC and LS listings and see what appeals. If you have something more specific in mind, you can make a post on the Making Connections forum and go fishin'!
  21. Welcome to the RPC! Considering what's been said already, moving sooner rather than later is probably a good idea... 500K gil isn't too bad if you make heavy use of the marketplace. It's probably worth noting that the economy here is really strong which may be different from other servers.
  22. Welcome aboard to Balmung! Best advice I can give is to start combing the FC and LS listings and see what appeals for the character you aim to play!
  23. Took me a few tries before I took the bait, hook, line, and sinker. Welcome back!
  24. I'm Kasi, and this is my favorite linkshell on the Coalition. Join us!
