balmung A Wandering Curiosity [RP interaction starter]

Lyn's pretty awesome to RP with! More people should go and meet her! -
Yeah, I'll second this, and I'll go a step further and say that I most certainly can vouch for the activity and quality of at least Shroud Life (and you should totally join us, Kilie- not that I'm biased or anything). I haven't had a whole lot of luck with Carline quite yet, but I haven't been trying very hard there either. As far as FC's go, they're not really all that required to get hooked in, as I found. You can fly solo, or just attach to a good place and leave it at that. If you do decide to found a FC, I would recommend getting into RP first, finding like minded people over time, and then if you can gather up maybe 5+ people who are passionate about it? Yeah, that's a recipe for an excellent FC launch. If you're just looking to get more RP? Then by all means, cast a wide net- don't limit yourself to just FC's and the like. My girl is a Gridanian at heart and she can show up pretty much anywhere, so you're certainly welcome to tap me to get some RP goin' if nothing else!

Hey there! Yes, it most certainly is still very much alive, no less in-game or in Discord, for that matter. There's not much doubt here that Whisper would fit in with the landscape here in Shroudlife; just about everyone here is a wanderer of some sort, if not a wilderness survivalist outright. We typically try to avoid cities for the most part. We generally organize run-ins rather frequently- almost nightly- where characters can run across one another, conduct trade, catch up, exchange stories... that sort of thing. This happens pretty much anywhere. After that, everyone goes separate ways until the next time they manage to cross paths. It's all fairly organic. Here's a bit of a preview: I can't speak for the others, but at least in Kasi's case, she's kind of a traveling retired-soldier-gone-mercenary always taking odd jobs and she can show up practically anywhere while she's working. Her somewhat dubious morals allow her to take on most contracts if there's something that needs doing- at least, up to a point. She usually has meats to trade for other foodstuffs like fish, nuts, and fruits. You're certainly more than welcome to toss in! If nothing else, you're certainly welcome to tap me in-game. And of course, welcome to FFXIV!

Hey there, and welcome aboard to Balmung! If you're looking to jump into things right away, start getting a look at the Free Companies, Linkshells, and the Making Connections forums- there's a whole lot out there and you should be able to find a good place for just about any character!

Hello! New to the world of FFXIV - Veteran RPer!
Thunderbolt300 replied to Empress's topic in Welcome Desk
http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=17424 I'd strongly recommend joining in on this one- it's easy to miss since it's not in the Linkshells forum, but rather in the Making Connections. It caters pretty strongly to Miqo'te in general, but there's a good helping of Au Ra as well. This has been one of the best places (I've found) for getting into RP and arranging meetups with characters. It's a pretty inclusive group overall and there's usually stuff happening nightly. One thing I will mention that took me a little off-guard about the FFXIV community is how strongly Discord is leveraged, so you'll want to get familiar with that if you haven't already. Most of the Linkshells and even FC's have their own Discords for communication outside of the game, and 'ShroudLife' is no exception there. It's a good place to ask questions, create connections and work on collaboration. Voice chat is barely utilized so if you're not comfortable with that, it's no sweat! Surprisingly, Discord seems to be leveraged almost to the point of excluding in-game channels at times too (since those not online can take part still too). -

You're welcome to hit me if nothing else- I'll be on tonight after about 6 PM CST! If you're Miqo'te, I can recommend a pretty good linkshell as well for finding RP. -
Won't be able to help you much there sadly, but best of luck and welcome to the RPC!

Hey there Empress, and welcome aboard! I can almost say with certainty that a lore expert will be by shortly to welcome you too- these forums seem to be a great place to ask any questions you might have. If you can find a copy of the Encyclopedia Eorzea, that's also a fantastic lore source. Enjoy the MSQ- I'm almost done with mine for the first time and it is an amazing ride not only in terms of lore, but also storytelling (and it goes straight up to Riker-grew-a-beard levels after level 50). It's pretty rare to find a gem like this in an MMO! You're certainly welcome to tap me in-game if you got questions or are looking to RP. I can't claim to be an expert after only 2 months of addiction, but I'll try! -
I don't know much about Greg, but in any case, welcome aboard!

I dislike both equally. Tells I dislike for the fact that if I'm level 60 and not in an FC, I don't want to be in one. Shouts I dislike because they are posted every several minutes and some of them are 3-4 posts long! Stop that shit. Manly grunt of approval and vindication- the kind of grunt you give someone who just ordered an A.1. Thick & Hearty burger combo in front of you at Whataburger

Hey there, and welcome aboard to Balmung! I think you'll be quite happy with the expansiveness on Balmung- there's a lot of different ways to get connected (such as the Linkshell, Free Company, and event calendars), so if you want to get off into RP with a running start, that ought to be completely viable. You can also make a post in the Making Connections if you'd like to spice things up even more! As someone else that only really started a few months ago? Yeah, drinking in the lore is like trying to drink from a firehose. If you can find yourself a copy of the Encyclopedia Eorzea, that might be a good way of getting a pretty easily-digestible lore dose. In any case, you're certainly well to tap me in-game if you like!

Personally, I avoid shouting, whispers and headhunting. Generally, I have found these methods are ineffective at building a good roleplaying community, despite them yielding quick results ("This leads to the Dark Side..."). Rome wasn't built in a day, and taking the longer, more patient route may be far more favorable. A good marketing campaign will attract long term, dedicated players- innovative, passionate guild advertisements on these forums, for example, and running community events will draw you into the open. A good guild ad is a chance to show off your ideas, and people are drawn to groups that contribute to the community and show that they're active. Roleplaying guilds generally have some kind of quality control for new recruits to make sure they'll fit in nicely and mesh well with the tone you're trying to establish. These are ultimately tradeoffs though. Choose what you wish but you'll have to be patient!

Well, how could a refuse a foreboding offer like that?

Yep! I also believe I helped you along with Chachanji with King Mog. Though, I also met Y'zhara briefly during a Halloween RP event. Ulemo is a friend of Ni's and go to watch WYNG perform. Also, thank you SickerySix! I'll try to find Savona whenever I am able to get online. Sure thing! Feel free to tap me if you see me!

Ah, alright. Guess something like that is needed for a MMO. As for Agrias, heck yes she's awesome. FFT is one of my favourite games of all time. I'd definitely play a Holy/Divine/Temple Knight if there was a job like that on FFXIV. If the Dark Knight wasn't considered a tank and had some abilities that were FFT-like I'd so be going for that. Eh, the "rating" stuff doesn't really get all that much use- you just RP however much you want to, and if you really want to adopt a label, you certainly can. Not everyone does. MMO RP is definitely a bit of a different sauce than tabletop, but not because of needing ratings. It's not all that different from (or at least, my experiences on) NeverWinter Nights on the persistent world RP servers. That is, roleplay here in an MMO is still a PW where even if you're offline, plotlines and characters can advance and develop without you knowing. There can be spontaneous events and encounters even when you're online. It's a bit of a tradeoff compared to the tabletop world where everything is generally event-driven rather than a 24-7 steady progression. On the one hand, you get a much more immersive, living, and dynamic experience... but on the other, you also miss out on so much and it's much more labor intensive than just having a set schedule. Order and chaos, pretty much! Tactics definitely takes a spot in my top-10 list, and I'd be right there with you if they ever released a class like that for FFXIV! Gosh. Kasi would hit the hell out of that. It'd be amazing to have ranged sword skills like Lightning Stab or Stasis Sword. We can dream... for now I'll have to settle to doing dungeons to the soundtrack instead.

Luckily without being a cleric I don't have to pick just one. Edit: As an after thought: How do people make the definitions between the "RP Style"? Like, what's the difference between medium and heavy? Is there some sort of guideline I'm missing? And somehow the heresy grows even more intense! The difference is somewhat a matter of perspective; heavy roleplayers spend the majority of their time IC, on up to all-the-time. Medium is probably a good 50-50 spread, where as light is probably below 25%. There's no real set-in-stone guideline though. Also, Agrias is awesome. You're the only other one I've seen with an FFT portrait so far. Kudos.
