  1. [Server]: Balmung [Housing]: Althaea's Garden [Ward]: Lavender Beds, Ward 10 [Plot]: Plot 3 [Description]: Althaea's Garden was once known as a place for orphans and people who had lost their way. However, following an attack on the residence, the children who stayed in the orphanage have been moved to the Stillglade Fane due to safety concerns. Most staff has also vacated the estate.. some rumors indicate that it may be even 'haunted,' or that the elementals frown upon it. ((OOCly, contact Blade Belisaire in game or Avi#1036 on Discord for more information))
  2. Howdy folks, Posting here to gauge some interest in a general PvP Enthusiast / Casual Player sort of linkshell. We now have dueling, we have Wolve's Den, we have Frontlines roulettes... I have personally been wanting to play some map other than shatter for Frontlines. Thought behind it is pretty simple. We invite a lot of people who just live PvP content. People suggest ideas. Matchmaking happens. Maybe we can even form three full premade teams of Adder, Maelstrom, and Flames, and try to rule the world. Maybe we make premade The Fold groups because we just want to listen to Torn from the Heavens. I don't know. Or maybe you'll tell me one of these things already exists in which case I'll have to ask for an invite. Please? I post that this is for casual interest because I don't like people who get too mean to others, but feel free to tell me I suck. I'll respond with some 4th grade insult most likely.
  3. If I recall correctly (don't know if its been mentioned earlier, skimmed a bunch of the posts), Midlanders are somewhat considered different from the other races in the shape of their ears, which makes sense, because to the eyes of Elezen, Lalafell, and Miqo'te, Hyur are actually in the minority for ear size. People just often tend to forget about that, but I believe in the original 1.0 race description they pointed it out. Anyways, there is something to be said about being 'one among many,' and being a Midlander as being 'baseline.' Yeah, the lore surrounding them is pretty blank and they are just the 'dime a dozen' race, but that in and of itself is something unique. You don't really stick out. But maybe that works for your character, in order to slip by unnoticed, not draw attention to yourself. I can see some roleplayers approaching it from that angle. Personally, I've always had my main character be a Hume/Hyur in FFXI/FFXIV. It sort of requires you to go that extra mile to make them unique, but I also think it gives you a cool vantage point ICly to learn about the lore of the other races from player characters, without really having strict lore for your character to adhere to yourself. Midlander thus, for me, seems more free to do what you want with it.
  4. I think you have it the other way around. In 1.0, if I recall correctly, there was a single coeurl in the game. I would say they are much more numerous now than they were in 1.0. People frequently mention their mounts ICly, and some just have them for fun. Really depends on your character, and if you want to come up with the story behind the mount or not.

    Greetings!

    Welcome to Hydaelyn Roleplayers.
  6. Just to sort of echo this since I think it's a fair point. If we're talking in terms of someone new seeking a strong early immersion experience, Balmung may be a better pick as Legacy players are already situated at a comfortable spot. Yes, they are ahead, they have money, they have levels. That also means, though, that they have time and focusing on rushing to 50 isn't something that's going to be something they are concerned about. We'll be doing endgame content, but the duty finder makes it so that isn't quite such a time sync anymore, since so much of the original endgame activities had to do with prep and getting a group together. As a Legacy player, I have one (almost two) level 50 jobs. First things I'm doing are diving right back into the RP scene. I don't need to worry about levels right now, and can sorta relax a bit and focus more on things like RP. So from my point of view, I'm seeing it as an opportunity to take my time and do the fun things I really enjoy (RP).
  7. Finally, an update! First of all, the biggest news: the site is up and running and ready for people to start applying who are interested. It's included as part of the shell's information, but here it is again. http://tales-of-hydaelyn.guildwork.com In addition, I changed/reworded the recruitment status. You can scroll up and read it there, otherwise I've included it quoted here: Looking forward to meeting you all! -Blade
  8. Members on Behemoth more or less explicitly stated that they chose Behemoth in order to specifically be separate from the RPC because we are 'elitist' and 'trying to dictate' where the RP community goes, claiming that we've been trying to get them to leave Behemoth (when no such thing happened). So I figure we should just give them what they want and remain separate. Secondly, when you factor in the numbers and how the wildcard votes both here and on the beta forums would've factored in, you would've gotten... Gilgamesh: 48 (beta and RPC combined votes) + 13 RPC wildcard votes = 61 Behemoth: 32 (beta and RPC combined votes) + 1 beta forum wildcard vote = 33 Which gives Gilgamesh nearly double the support and per the site rules and what we said we would do with the site, wouldn't lead to the creation of a subforum. This isn't to say that Behemoth roleplayers have no place on the RPC--they absolutely can and could make a linkshell here and advertise for Behemoth (or Fate's Edge, the linkshell they have there), if they decide they would like to be a part of the RPC. This just seems unlikely to me given the feelings they've expressed about us.
  9. Wooo! Congrats Girugarumeshu!
  10. No, no, I wasn't saying that. I was saying the reason why they specified the servers as EU (despite being in Montreal) is to get EU players to congregate on those servers to keep players in similar time zones together. I'm not saying that lag isn't an issue. But it's the reason why they are designated certain servers as EU and others not.
  11. Folks are familiar with it from the events and where people went to mess around. Thing is Niklaus, no one will ever agree on one secondary server. Sadly, you will see probably 3 RP communities sprout up by the time its said and done, unless SE does a sudden turn about and even then, you will still have a mess. Everyone's frustrated, tired of the subject, I know from my viewpoint I went to Gilgamesh to check it out. If Balmung gets locked or full, then it's where a bunch of us will go. In the end, 2 months left and we may see more information that affects everyone. Till then, I guess its Gilga, Behemoth, Balmung and whatever EU folks decide. EU really don't need pick a server of their own since all the non-Japan servers are (stupidly enough) physically in Montreal anyway. It would only split the community further and people would have the same lag. I'm not sure why they even have EU-recommended servers when there's only one data center outside of Japan (better than none, but still). It's more of a community/timezone thing than it is a lag thing. Kind of like "This one is here for EU, so you can all log on at the same time and play with other people on your side of the world."

    Bosses and Rp

In FFXI, we were pretty much the only roleplaying group on Siren that I ever heard of, so we did a lot of roleplaying the storyline and such doing these boss battles. Since it was really just us there, we were able to sort of... monopolize the storyline content. Given though the sheer size of the RPC, something like that can't really quite transfer over as well. I think the way that my shell will approach it in respect of the greater RPC will be that -within our linkshell,- we'll have a slightly different continuity compared to others, and either roleplay variants of ourselves who haven't done the missions and/or simply find IC reasons never to talk about said boss fights/missions/other content. The point really is to just be respectful to your fellow roleplayers, is what it gets down to, I think. You don't want to have your character running around spouting off how awesome he or she is because they and their band of heroes killed some in-game boss, because that's really not something anyone has the right to claim. Within smaller groups though, something like that might be possible among like-minded individuals. Sometimes its fun to RP hero. But when interfacing back with the rest of the community as a whole, you'd need to be respectful. It also just sets up trouble if you take it outside of your small group. Guy A says "I'm the hero Eorzea needs! I defeated the Imperials and have saved Eorzea!" and Guy B responds "Uh huh. I did that two months ago." Dur... So yeah, best to keep that stuff to yourself or your friends if you take that route haha. Pretty much exactly what I was getting at. ^^
  13. We can't stop here. I mean, really. Anyone who has played an MMO before is walking into this with a completely unfair advantage. Nay, anyone who has played a Final Fantasy game before. How far is it to go up again someone who KNOWS what a Black Mage is? That we ride these ostriche-like yellow birds called chocobos. :chocobo: I don't know about you but I'd think twice before mounting one of those things if it were my first time. But I know better. Un-fair.
  14. When you look at the RPC in the broadest sense and take it in as a whole, it may come off that there might not necessarily be a good place for you or your style. But I think it is important to keep in mind that not everyone within the RPC subscribes to the same sort of storytelling narrative and that is the reason why we have such a wide variety of linkshells here, built to cater different roleplayer needs and wants. Some groups for example may favor you only selecting a single class or job, others will be fine with you coming in with all jobs and won't give it a second glance. Some groups don't want you to use soul gems or dislike you wearing artifact armor, others are fine with it. My group in particular is planning on doing some things that other groups might not favor--that is, RPing out the missions and plotline. It means we need to be respectful when we roleplay with other members of the RPC not in our group by roleplaying as 'variants' of our characters or otherwise not bringing up our activities in missions (cus we really have no right to claim that it was us who defeated villain X, for example). But there are ways to do what you want and integrate in with the whole and make sure everyone is happy by finding a group that caters to your favored approach and style of roleplay, and altering your style depending on the company you are in. There's no right or wrong styles roleplay. What's most important is do what you find enjoyable.
  15. To quote Kylin, on his first post in this topic... I don't know what exactly it is that you are saying you want at this stage. We're already in support of and giving you this option. It was stated in the very first post in this now 150 post thread. It's now a header on every page of the RPC. You are getting your non-legacy option. We agree it is a valid and legitimate conversation, and we've had the conversation weeks ago and we agreed to make an official non-legacy server. Many would prefer to keep things on Balmung since it's always been on Balmung, but that's been our preference. Even so, we're opening up more options, and like I said, there are already other groups on other servers (Hyperion). So I'm not sure what else it is that you want. It seems we're already giving it to you.
  16. That's pretty much exactly what this site is and supports. You nailed it pretty much on the head. The RPC has always supported roleplaying efforts on other servers; there's a reason why in the Linkshell Hall section you have the ability to specify which server you will be on. One linkshell has already declared that they will be on Hyperion, another Legacy server, for example. So really, the community here at the RPC supports any roleplaying effort on any RP server. We tend to favor having everyone together, though, but by no means does that imply that we don't support roleplay efforts on other servers. Given that Kylin has already said that we'll be voting for an official RPC non-legacy server... I'm a little bit confused why there are so many jabs being exchanged.
  17. I really like the style with which you wrote this introduction. It was a fun read and full of personality. Looking forward to running into ya in game. ^^
  18. To clarify, I'm planning on the crafting/trading guild to be just the 'official' front of the linkshell. As in, there will be a significant story and plotline involved with Tales of Hydaelyn. The reason for taking a sort of trade company approach is that it really gives us an excuse in-character to travel a lot, to see a lot of different things. There will be plenty of fighting and adventuring to be had along this story, so non-crafters shouldn't be pushed away from this group! As for Arcanist in particular though, they'd be very welcome as they could be good with record-keeping and all that good stuff. Free Companies are yes, something that you can only join one of, and you can be members of many linkshells. I'm still trying to determine how to approach the Free Company aspect of this. If Tales of Hydaelyn doesn't form its own unique Free Company, it will be associated with an RP friendly one consisting of mostly members from this group, as well as some friends I have coming from XI from a social linkshell I had there, which was known as Returners. So a free company will sprout up as either unique to Tales of Hydaelyn, or as Returners, but in both cases there would be some RP around the Free Company side of things. In the case of the latter though, there'd likely be a good amount of OOC activity as well for progression-wise stuff in addition to the RP focus. Regarding what this membership pool might look like, its difficult to say because at present I believe I am the only person with a 1.0 character that will be part of the formation of this Free Company. Which is good news for new players, since most of the people you'll be playing with will be right there with you. I do, however, want to keep the Free Company aspect separate enough from the focus of the RP group so as to not push away people from roleplaying with our group who aren't a part of our free company, especially since you can only choose one group to go with. That would really limit who could join us. So I suppose the summary is: we're going to have some form of free company associated with ToH, but I can't comment as of yet how much of that with be IC vs. OOC. Either way, it wouldn't be a super critical part of the group so as to not make people with different free companies feel left out.
  19. Corrected the headline cus in my rampant excitement I took it to be confirmed as a new mount but now that I've returned to equilibrium I realized it wasn't really a new mount at all, and just them playing with dev tools.
  20. Is that a player character riding on top of....?
  21. Warriors of Light as it is used in FFXIV isn't really as significant of a term as it is in previous Final Fantasy games. The starter NPCs pretty much go out and say that the adventurers--all of them, as a whole--who went to the Battle of Carteneau that they are unable to remember are the 'Warriors of Light,' and it has to do with the fact that when they try to recall memories of them, its like trying to recognize someone standing in front of you with the sun behind them. It's fuzzy. It's not a term that's reserved for the 'heroes of legend' as it were. It's a term that is used to, in general, refer to all those adventurers who vanished after the Battle of Carteneau. Regarding why the time-warped adventurers were forgotten and not the Grand Company leaders, I'm sure through the story this will be revealed. Bear in mind we're only seeing a part of the overall story; we still haven't got an answer as to 'why.' It's also just not the faces of the adventurers that are forgotten, but the events of that night and all that transpired as a whole.
  22. ^^^^^ A thousand times. It's also a pain in the ass to try to RP with people talking in your ears, but you feel left out if you leave. A huge no, from me. No. And, for those of us who cannot always be ON said mumble due to RL (I dont like being on VOIP when my husband is home, because it cuts him off from conversation with me and is rude to him), it is just another way of being left out. I do agree with this. My Boyfriend would be totes angry if I ignored him completely! Different people get left out of a lot of things for a lot of different reasons. Generally, a choice to do one thing is a choice to not do something else. I'm going to be very busy come game release with graduate school and two RP shells going on, so the time that I'll have to really hang out in a voice chat isn't going to be much, if even possible. Just like a lot of people will be able to RP more and play the game more than I'm likely to be able to. But that's the reality of my situation and my commitments. But that's my situation. If other people have time and want to do something like this, I think they should be able to. As in, my choices and my situation should not impact how other people spend their time.
  23. I don't think the vote is really addressing whether it should be done or not. The RPC really has no place regulating social activities of the roleplayers anyways. As Deirdre said, this is more to gauge interest and what sort of server options we should into investing in, and whether we should pay for it or not. I'm abstaining from voting since I'm not super huge for voice chat, but if it was there I might use it on rare occasions. I might also never use it. So yeah, going neutral here.

    Bahamut

Since he seems isolated to his dungeon (so far we know it as "Bahamut's Labyrinth"), I have a feeling that he's sorta trapped there for some reason. Cus as we all saw, he /really/ didn't like us all too much. Question is what would be holding him there? Guess we'll find that out~
