There is one thing I think people might be overlooking. Threads that say looking for romance don't always mean prearranged romance. Sure the poster might be looking for that, but those threads can also just as easily be "Hey, I'm looking for a love interest for my character, let me know if you're interested. We can get some RP in and see how they get along." In a case like that, the forum post more acts as a bar, a place to meet prospective partners, not something to outright prearrange things. That aside, I tried a prearranged relationship exactly once, in a different mmo, and it was an absolute train wreck. It was with an in-game friend of mine. She just got clear of a drama bomb and asked me to put my character in a relationship with one she just made. It didn't take long to learn what sounded good on paper just didn't play out well. The romance crashed and burned spectacularly. The warning signs were there. Had we even played them as friends for a month before getting them together, we would have seen it wouldn't work. So, lesson learned. To tie back to the start, I am not adverse to seeing how characters RP with mine, if they spark or such, but I will never, never again just outright prearrange a relationship.

This is a wonderful idea, I just hope the timing of 3.5 works out for you, given that it's MSQ will likely have major repurcussions for Ali Mhigan RP. Given the patch is supposed to drop mid-Jan, I'd have to think it'll hit a few days after the event though, so you should be good. I'll have to see if I can get Xerek to swing by this one.

Or failing that, allow people who already have toons on Balmung to create alts there. We can't play more then one at a time, after all. >.>

Xerek has been in three failed relationships. The last breakup hit him hard. Still, part of him wants to love and be loved, so while his heart is guarded, he's still cautiously keeping an eye open...

I think I already know the answer to this, but do you have to be there for the start, or can you trickle in later on?

Ironically after saying here that Xau'a would not be attending because he was taken, he found himself available for the event. It was well-run and the staff tried very hard to keep everyone engaged. It was a lot of fun!

Just to avoid confusion you might want to set a color for interested in both (perhaps green or purple?). I could see people not paying attention showing up in whatever, confusing those looking. Or someone in 2/3rds red and 1/3 blue or such. That aside, this is a wonderful idea. Were Xau'a still single, I'd definately be there. Good luck!

You can also check people's search info. A number of us will put some variant of "RPer, walk-ups welcome". You see that, go right up and ask. Or just approach IC.

Can people just show up to mingle? My kitty is a lightweight but I might bring him to it. He needs experience with groups of people if he's ever going to overcome his shyness.

Welcome. Every community is toxic according to some people. I came from GW2 which has it's own toxic RP element. Just typical mmo fare. Quick note though, there is no rush to get Heavensward. To access anything in it, aside from the new race, you will have to get to level 50, beat the entire Realm Reborn main story, as well as all the main story patched in up until the expansion. That...can take awhile.

Hmm, might sign Xau'a up for this, but slightly disappointed that we can no longer specify which races we're attracted to. Xau'a and I would have no qualms with anybody, but there are definitely preferences. Oh well. Either way I'll check my (and Xau'as) schedule and see if I can do this.

From the sounds of it, it comes down to aesthetics. Some don't like their looks, others the idea of playing someone that large. Some don't like the threadbare lore. It also sounds like there are a good number of roe alts that just couldn't quite make it to main. All of which makes sense. I can't say much, I'm playing a tiny miqo, after all. It's just a shame. Roe do have an appealing look to them. Femroe (I did not know that was a term until this thread) can be quite beautiful. They can be fun to RP with, especially as a small, shy kitty. And they don't have to follow stereotype (though many do). I suppose I just enjoy variety and wish I had more roe to interact with. Thanks for the answers, all. Helped satiate my curiosity. ^.^

I think this is true of the people you interact with as well. My main used to be a femroe (futa-free ), and it's definitely been enlightening see how very few random people were immediately willing to interact with her versus a more conventionally pretty Elezen. I know a lot of that has to do with character personalities and professions as well, but I honestly think there's a bit of a bias, subconscious or no, that players have towards characters that look 'nice' even when RPing. That's not so much true in a closed environment like an FC where you have time to get to know everyone, but when trying to meet strangers? Just like RL, it's the conventionally pretty girls who tend to get the attention first. Personally I love Roes to death. But the difficulty in playing one is definitely why I rerolled. Which is a shame. I think Xau'a would have fun with any of yours, assuming they weathered the initial storm of his shyness. :blush:

That honestly surprises me. I'm used to female characters in MMOs and chatroom getting swarmed like ants on a jam sandwich. That whole flirt/proposition by tell never made sense to me. It's like pointing to your crotch and saying "Yo!". Anything that happens with my kitty happens IC. Back on topic though, that given the conversation thus far it's curious to see the sheer volume of attention you're getting on War Bear.

Hmm, shame I missed it. Sounds like that would have been fun. I'm always looking for places my fortune-telling kitty can drop in on. He used to be nomadic, so wanderlust still takes him now and then so at times he just goes out for walks. Frequently through residential districts. I suppose it is perspective, but I find attractive qualities in all the races. I recently Fantasia-ed and name changed my Midlander for a fresh start as the character deviated way to far from original concept. Went miqo because it seemed like a fun change of pace, and the small frame worked well with the shy personality I gave him. Don't know why, but I find Roe one of the most attractive races, really. Maybe it's that there are indeed unique traits such as their noses. And it can lead to fun roleplay as a good number of Roe I've RPed with have been very friendly and outgoing which can frequently trigger my kitty's shy streak. I can understand fewer Roe, I guess I'm just a bit surprised how few. But I do agree aesthetics play a part and beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I find it curious that there seem to be few Roe out there. I've peeked at a few linkshells, and looked through some of the Companies from here's Lodestone listing and there are just not a lot out there. I'm baffled by this and wonder why. There even seem to be fewer female Roe I find odd, given how good most look. I think the Roe have a nice aesthetic to them, both sexes. And of course there is the allure of a massive character for melee types, or mages if you want to break type-casting. I can understand RPing a giant might not appeal to some, but I would think more then there are out there. So, I'm just trying to wrap my mind around why. Roe can be fun to RP with. My tiny lil miqo looks like a child to most of them which makes it amusing to play the shy little cat. So why is it? Why no loving for the Roe?

I was on a forum that had a similar sub-forum and it worked wonderfully for years. There was only one rule, and it was the no call-out rule you already have in place. This should work wonderfully.
