I have all the details about character creation written down in a notebook, so making my character will take... maybe 2 minutes at most. I might peak around hair styles a bit just to make sure my choice was the right one, but that won't take long at all. Once I'm in the game, that's when it starts. My UI customization will be short and quick, so the vast majority of my time will be playing the game and rping (if I find groups to rp with). I know I probably shouldn't set a level goal for myself, especially because I really really want to rp, but old habits die hard. I want to get to, at least, where I was with my Phase 3 character before the end of day one. I don't know how probable that is, seeing as I will be looking for RP and playing and all that other good stuff. I'll probably check here to see if any of my Linkshells/FCs are set up so I might be able to get in to those early, that way I'm assured RP. I'm... a bit of a planner at times.

Yes, I'm quite familiar with that part of the lore, having cited that exact Lodestone thread elsewhere. My point was that this group needs to be careful to not start claiming authority over or inherent membership by other miqo'te because they happen to be of the same larger tribe. Let's assume for the sake of argument that this group decides to go with the viper tribe (L). There's two ways this can be done that's fair and considerate to other players: The group is a branch of the viper tribe (a subtribe, one might say?), in the manner you quoted The group is a cross-cutting organization -- a club, of sorts -- that's open to all miqo'te of any branch of the viper tribe I'm just trying to put my two cents in on considerate RP when people start wanting to build IC organizations that are bound directly to lore and might impact others' RP. I completely agree with you two, which is partly why I came up with much more of a "Miqo'te Alliance" than anything else. I don't feel the need to beat a dead horse and Freelance continues to express my feelings in words I couldn't seem to find, so I'll leave it at that.

That'd be work that you don't really need to do. On the wiki, you can sort by race, then clan, so it works just as well.

Ah, missed Unsung Heroes cause I haven't checked them out yet. Wasn't aware that Blue Skies was either. I didn't see it anywhere on their page. Sorry about that. Edit: I'm not sure about Crystalline either, actually.

Where do you see if they are going to be an FC? I don't see that listed on most of the pages. A lot of Linkshells/FCs will just say it outright, either on their description page or in the comments below. I know I'm in a Free Company through the Knights of the Twelve, but there's also TALE and... I think Misericorde are both also Free Companies as well.

I just came up with an idea and figured I'd throw it out there. Rip it apart if you wish. I'm happy to make a linkshell called something along the lines of "Tribe of the Wayward" or something to that effect. It'd basically be a "tribe" for all (from any tribe) Miqo'te to keep in touch and have someone they can rely on. I'm happy to work with everyone if they like this idea. If not, well, I threw something out there. Edit: The idea behind it is tentative and subject to tweaks.

If things don't work out with the tribe dynamic, you're more than welcome to. Just shoot me a pm and let me know so we can plot. Or add me on skype. (As_A_Syn) Whatever works for you. Edit: This offer goes out to anyone, by the way. I have set it up for multiple seeker families in Ishgard.

Unless, of course, the female is "Sired", in which case her surname is the first name of the breeding male who sired her. Edit: Yeah, I had a brain fart and forgot that "sired" meant fathered. Great going, me.

I do think it'd be cool to rp a tribe of Miqo'tes, though my Miqo'te isn't tribal and thus could not join in on the fun. Unless you made his sister, which I doubt you want to do. Anyway, if you look at the wiki (specifically here), you can find out the most popular tribe and the player of all the characters by checking the last edit of a character's wiki page. I hope this helps in some way.

Torn Sky's Art & Commissions (also open for requests!)
Nox replied to Torn Sky's topic in Artisan House
Yet another art thread to subscribe to. You people need to stop being so awesome at art until I figure out how to get screens off my PS3! Jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez. A little common courtesy. But no, in all seriousness, great work. -
I don't think music can be heard ICly. I'm pretty sure that's there because of how games are made and for ambiance. I wouldn't be opposed to someone ICly humming the tune of the song that's in the background, though. But as far as if the song can be heard in the minds of the characters, I'll go with a "no". Edit: Just found out about what Merri posted about. Hm. Did not know that.

Actually, the value of gil has been debated before in this thread. I hope this answers your question, because I, myself, can't even begin to.

Conflict is part of the human interaction. I'm sorry to say it, but it's true. I'm glad to see that all of the debates have become civil recently, and many people (myself included) simply answer the server question by presenting the servers and the pros and cons of both. That's a positive thing. Recently, I've seen a lot of "make a character on both servers and see which one you like better" advice as well, which is really really nice. I think the debates have become less of debates and, now at least, more of an informative thing. There are things here and there, but nothing that'd cause an even bigger schism than is already there. I think locking the threads might be a little bit of an extreme thing to do. That might be just me, though. Besides that, it'd be quite a pain for someone to constantly monitor to catch the server question threads before the debate already begins, if it begins. I'm currently not doing anything, as it's summer and I'm unemployed, so I have the time to sit here and refresh the forum page every minute or so. Not everyone does. And I suspect that the staff are quite busy people who have other things that they need to do. Do I think the "clearly the better choice" talk needs to stop, yes. Yes, please, in fact. Stating that Balmung/Gilgamesh is "clearly the better choice" helps no one. Its a statement of opinion. We do need to stress that Legacy, essentially, means nothing within a few months of release, though. But hey, I'm pretty new here so I might be wrong or my opinion means little. So, I've rambled for quite long enough, so I'll wrap it up in a nice TL;DR. TL;DR: Basically, I think locking the threads is extreme and tedious. Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd while answering the server question, I think we should stick to statements of fact as opposed to statements of opinion.

Hm... This game proves to be unlike the ones I've played before. Thank you both for clearing that up.

Now I find that strange. In a classic tanking sense, I'd imagine that Vitality would be the most important, followed by a mixture of dexterity and strength. Seeing as dex governs how often you block/parry and strength is, not only melee damage, but also how much you parry for, I figured that would be the most "tanky" spec. Maybe I'm thinking of it in too much of a WoW or other mmo sense, but tanks are generally classed by their health, damage mitigation, threat generation, and survivability. In that order. Maybe I'm just thinking about it too much.

Alright, so I know what stats do, but I'm not sure (especially with my job) what to put all the bonus stat points into. I get that classes are supposed to be less specialized than their job counterparts, which is what spawned the idea for this thread, I suppose. I don't want to focus on one job with this thread just in case some other newer players have the same question, so yeah. Basically, my questions right now are... should melee dps jobs focus on strength alone so they do more damage? If so, then I suppose ranged dps (bard) should focus on dexterity so they do as much damage as possible. But that spawns a different question. If I'm not mistaken, Bard is basically a Red Mage with a bow, so what about for those? Should the tanking jobs focus on vitality for extra health? But then without the extra dexterity, they won't parry/block as much. I think the caster classes are more... self-explanatory, though I could be wrong. I could be over thinking this whole thing, but I don't know. I'm just looking for guidance.

Not a problem at all. It threw me for a loop the first time too.

Your wiki account/sign in is your account on the forum.

Sadly, there's not a lot of lore on anything right now. About all I could find for you was whatever the wiki has, which isn't very much either. I, and others, really hope that they release more lore sometime soon.

Sea Wolf Naming Conventions . There's a reason it links to a dictionary. That's exactly what I was looking for! Well, I will follow the naming convention for my last name. If I was going to do so for my first name, it would be strange not being darcey.... I am always Darcey!!!! Hrm... Will have to put some thought into that. Thank you for the answer Nox! Not a problem. Glad I could help.

Ah, a poll. Sweet, I was about to hit the books. I went with the one I thought fit the bill the best, in my mind.

What race were you thinking? Then, of that race, what clan were you thinking? Did she name herself or does she remember her birth name? I'm happy to help, I just need to know specifics.

My character is a Seeker female who came from a fairly traditional miqo'te community. It's in her background now and factors in fairly heavily to why she left, and as a result, she has fairly strong feelings about traditional Seeker culture (she loves her immediate family -- mostly -- but hates their culture). That said, she's not especially a fan of the city-states' cultures either, though she identifies most with the underlying themes (freedom and self-sufficiency, but working together to common goals) of Limsa Lominsan culture. IMO, all miqo'te should have some strong feelings about their traditional culture, because it's both still around and also very different from the norms of the other races and the city-states. A miqo'te can love it, hate it, or not know anything about it (for instance, if they were born and raised in a city-state), but I don't think any miqo'te could know of their traditional culture and be wholly indifferent towards it. I'm going to agree with you here. My character is a Seeker male from a family of Miqo'te that broke off from the tribe in favor of living in a city-state. He's a few generations away from the break, but still knows of his cultural heritage through tales. Because of how he was raised and the such, he doesn't much care for the culture of his tribal "brethren". He respects their decision, but just admits that it's a culture he doesn't really like. He's a follower of a much more typical set of traditions.

I'm about to say something that is of absolutely no help. I have heard nothing about Crystalline at all. Nothing bad, nothing good. I've read your linkshell page though, and thought that the ideas were interesting. I like that you put a hold on recruiting until you have all your ideas ironed out. I respect that. I could see, if you choose to keep the charity side, X'sato finding an interest in allying with y'all. But that breaks away from the topic at hand. To answer your question, while simultaneously being absolutely no help, I've heard nothing of your Linkshell. I'm new to the community, so I haven't had experiences with the LS. Sooooooooo yeah. Sorry to be of no help whatsoever.

Gesahl... That's brilliant. Thank you so much. Strange name for a dragoon, but it fits his backstory. Edit: Also just remembered it's "Gysahl"
