  1. Yeah, I think I'm just having the "too many Miqo'tes" shock, I suppose. I think I'm going to create the Elezen character tomorrow and run him for a bit, just to see which I prefer and go from there. Who knows, I might make the Elezen and have a completely fresh and interesting idea for his character. I suppose we'll see. Thank you all for the replies.
  2. Alright, I've been debating this in my head for a while now... As much as I love the Seekers and their lore and design and... I love everything about the race, basically. I'm at this point where I just don't know if Miqo'te is what I should go for. Basically, I'm debating overhauling W'Dekan and making him into an Elezen(Wildwood, of course) instead of a Miqo'te. Luckily, I could carry over most of his personality and the general ideas behind his history, but I'd be taking a hit in pretty much every other location. I'd take a slight hit to stats and have to rewrite/relearn quite a lot. I could just be freaking out because of my humanly "strive to be different" which is in everyone to some degree, and I'm happy to admit that. I figured I'd throw this idea out there for a community of people, who's opinion I respect, to either tell me to calm down or that it might be interesting to see the other character. At this point, I'm not really sure what I want to do, so I figured "Hey! Maybe they can help me."

    Reaching Out

Welcome to the site. Your character sounds quite interesting and I can't wait to rp with you when the time comes. Edit: Wow, I am bad at welcoming people. Double Edit: I'll be playing a Miqo'te Lancer (future Dragoon) pretty much exclusively. All my edits seem to just be adding things I forgot.
  4. W'Dekan's 100 Questions. I hope they aren't too boring. After remaking my character, I had to re-answer these questions, so... They're all on my wiki page.

    Pre-order

I am proving to be a master at Overlooking. Wow. Thanks. I saw it immediately when you said it was on the receipt, even though I looked it over earlier.

Woo. Went to gamestop and got my code. What website do I go to so I can redeem it? I didn't see (or might have overlooked) anywhere to punch in my code on the FFXIV site.
  7. This is really really cool. W'Dekan will definitely be there.

    RP in combat

I'm much more well versed in forum rping, so yeah. I can actually contribute for once. I know exactly what Zyrusticae means, though. I've been on sites where staff had to step in because a player wouldn't admit that their character had taken a hit. Hell, I've seen people just drop a thread (and subsequently treat it as though it never happened) because they were losing. Like you said, it comes to the player personality. If my character was hit, I'm happy to admit it. But there are tons of people who won't, hence why I tend to refrain from text-based PvP if possible. At least in a duel in-game, there is no "BUT I DODGED!" unless the character actually dodges.

    RP in combat

Ha! Oh no, never. I wouldn't do that to people. I'm talking quick, easy macros just to (basically) be alerts. An example I used earlier being, basically, "I need heals".

    RP in combat

Thank all of you for the quick replies. I was more thinking like dungeon scenarios and, for some reason, macros slipped my mind. I suppose I'll be typing up some ic dialog that amounts to "Hey, need some heals" and stuff like that. Don't know why Macros slipped my mind.

    RP in combat

As someone new to rping in an MMO setting, I came up with a question. As you can probably guess by the title, I'm curious how rping in combat works. Cooldowns (and combat in general) in ARR don't last long enough for me to be able to really type anything. Maybe I'm overlooking something or we just don't verbally rp in combat. Now I'm not asking if we type short stories to ask for heals or anything, don't get me wrong.
  12. I would be quite happy to see Phase 4 start earlier than expected. I'd actually be able to play my character, which would be really really nice. I suppose we can chalk this up to "Everything went better than expected"?
  13. Yes, yes they should. Considering its entirely possible to either transfer an image to a USB thumbdrive (or even email it to yourself if you need) on a PS3, they really should. That aside, I just use the default PS3 controller scheme. I know, kind of scrubby but I tried keyboard and mouse only to find that I'm infinitely faster on my controller. This is only because of my console gaming background. (I'm sorry, master-race! I'm trying to get into PC gaming, building a rig is just to expensive right now) Edit: Mind you, I'm using prior experience in MMOs to say that I'm better on a controller.
  14. Awesome idea, I'd totally submit what W'Dekan's family looks like if I could/knew how to screen cap off my PS3. Good looking family too.

Weird, I got no code. At all. I checked my receipt and everything. No code. Is it because I bought the collector's edition? (this is for my ps3) Hm. I sincerely hope I don't have to go raise hell tomorrow.
  16. Gotta say that I'm really glad everyone seems to like him. I was so nervous for some reason. And Zikh, you're character certainly seems interesting. I assume you're going to pick a sword and ring to keep in your inventory as his brother's sword and mother's ring, which I like. It's a nice, subtle touch.
  17. Alright, I figured I'd post this up here just to see what people thought of my character and to make sure that everything is as lore friendly as can be. I have everything on the wiki right now, so I suppose I'll copy his backstory over to here along with his personality. Quick Overview He's a 22 year old Seeker of the Sun Miqo'te male of the Wolf Clan (wow, what a terrible description). He resides in Gridania and works as a Sellsword for right now, maybe spice it up later. His nameday is the 13th Sun of the 3rd Astral Moon and his Guardian is Azeyma. History Ul'dah, the birthplace of many Seekers of the Sun. W'Dekan Tia was one such birth, on the thirteenth Sun of the third Astral Moon in the year 1555. From a young age, W'Dekan took to hunting, as many of his kin did. He didn't really stand out from the crowd very much. He just kind of went with the flow, learning what he could from whoever would teach him. It wasn't until he picked up a spear for the first time that he started to stand out. Whereas many of his relatives took to being pugilists or (rarely) archers, W'Dekan fell into the minority when he chose to take up the spear as a Lancer. He chose this weapon because of a Dragoon from Ishgard. W'Dekan observed the man's feats and fell in love with the way he moved. The way he fought was beautiful, but every muscle's movement had a purpose. The Dragoon became the boy's role model, and even taught the boy how to wield the spear a bit. However, he was still young. He still made mistakes. It wasn't until someone almost died to his hands that he learned restraint. That made W'Dekan grow as a person. His thought process and aspirations changed. Where before, he wished to be the strongest. He wished to have the most power of anyone, he changed to wanting to use his power to protect. Then he became of mating age. W'Dekan irritated quite a few clansmen when he refused to challenge the mating males. He simply had no interest, at least, not in the traditions of his culture. His deviation seemed like the traditional idea of "marriage". He wanted to be with someone who loved him, not multiple people who he was entitled to because he was the strongest. He just had different aspirations. Some of his clansmen rejected him, while others were embracing of him and polite, at the very least. Then it all happened. W'Dekan was too young (or so he was told) to join the Warriors of Light in their battle against the evils and thus stayed behind to live out the fallout that occurred after the crisis. Those five years only strengthened his resolve to protect. He wouldn't be left out of the fight again. At one of the first chances W'Dekan had, he boarded a carriage and headed to Gridania. He left, not because of his clan, but because he heard that Gridania was in dire need of some assistance. While he knew that one person wasn't going to sway an entire war in one or another's favor, he wanted to help in any way he could. He chose to become a sellsword for a while, fighting for anyone who could pay him to live. Personality W’Dekan is, in general, a pretty warm and caring individual. He’ll sit there and talk to you about whatever you want to talk about, even if he doesn’t really have an interest in it. He’s more than likely the first person to try and cheer you up and will keep secrets if asked. He doesn’t like to spend money, but will if it means making someone happy. He tends to be pretty funny, especially in groups of people(even though his brand of comedy is just sarcastic remarks). W’Dekan thinks on his feet when in a fight and resorts to tactics others might not think of or deem “fight worthy” in order to win. He says that “In combat, the ends justify the means.” He’s tenacious, sometimes almost to a fault. He is nearly constantly calm, unless driven to snap(which takes a lot). When he fights, he acts a bit like an animal. While he isn’t the first one to ready his spear, he’s often times the last one to put it away. W’Dekan tends to hold grudges against people for much too long. He tries to crack jokes for people or make people laugh because he loves seeing people smile. It’s one of his reasons for fighting as hard as he does, or so he says. He’s very crafty, even when put in seemingly impossible situations. W’Dekan has several things that most people would hate about him. He clings to things that others would find trivial or stupid, despite the costs. He breaks from traditional Miqo'te fashion in having absolutely no interested in being one of the mating males. He's quite happy to just be himself and not have to fight his kin over a title and a right. Picture of W'Dekan I'm not 100% on if I like the personality or not, but its one I know I can rp well. I might trash it, depending upon feedback and feel of the character, and write something different before Phase 4 (because I have plenty of time to do so). I just hope what I have right now is even mildly good. I went a way with W'Dekan's history that might come back to bite me. I kept the whole backstory condensed to, basically, what W'Dekan would tell someone about his up-bringing. Not sure if that's a good approach or not, which is kinda why I'm looking for feedback. Thank you, ahead of time. Sorry for the brick, spoiler tags were being... irritating.
  18. Sign me up. Edit: I can help with everything except graphics, sadly.
  19. I'm in the same boat. I want Snow's outfit for my Miqo'te. Though, I'd rather his Lightning Returns design... but that's just me. I'm happy with his classic outfit.
  20. Originally, I intended to not post in this thread to avoid kicking the bee hive a few more times, though, after thinking about it some (and icing rude dudes in Farcry 3), I decided to write up a post to try to wrap my brain around what might have been the origin of this thread. I could be wrong, but I think I'm at least hitting proximate to the bullseye. annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd Both of these posts are out of the Balmung or Gilgamesh poll page in the RP Discussion board. I chose these two posts because of what Rock posted a few posts later... Honestly thank you for mentioning this Alright, now I'm sure neither of us (and I know I didn't) mean any ill intent towards anyone who wanted to play on Gilgamesh. In my post, I remarked about rp activity on Balmung being a pull for me. As of right now, the majority of this very site is on Balmung, so it's pretty safe to say that the rp activity is greater. I'm sorry if you take offense to that. I would never try to directly dissuade someone from joining Gilgamesh or Balmung. If someone asks my opinion, I will give them my opinion. And before someone starts accusing me of being a separatist or something foolish like that, I don't care at all about servers. I firmly believe that Eva has the right idea about this. Sure, there are some people who are being rude about the whole server thing, but I believe the problem stems from the receivers. Until I'm proven otherwise, that's what I have to stick with. It irks me that this even needed to go on for as long as it should, and if this continues, I might have to put up my FFXIV Rping dreams before they even start. I sincerely hope that doesn't happen because I do love the game and look forward to rping with everyone. I wish Gilgamesh the best luck.
  21. I'm gonna have to stick to Balmung, but that's because that's the server the Linkshell I'm in is on (as well as one I'll be joining in the future). That aside, I like the rp activity of Balmung and, especially for me, rping is what's going to keep the game from going dry for me. All of the events SE are supposed to run will help, but I know I'll find myself logging back on again and again because I want to rp with people I'll consider friends.
  22. I... Don't believe so. It might, though.
  23. Hey! There is a topic already for 3DS friend tags, so I figured I'd throw out one for all the Steam users and Playstation gamers. Steam: Tenebrasnoctem PSN: As_A_Syn
  24. A) No, I'm fairly certain that's just the cross class chart as of now. Meaning a Dragoon can use some Archer and Marauder abilities. Ect. B) Yeah, pretty much. I'm pretty sure.
