Looks awesome! Can't wait to see more.

Ah, that's interesting. So the outcasts (as it would seem) follow a similar convention as binary. That's fascinating. The territory expansion makes sense as well.

There's a 27th tribe. The Tribe of the Distant! -shameless plug- Anyway, to actually answer your question... I think that what happens if a Tia splits off and forms their own tribe, it becomes somewhat of a sister tribe, not something completely different. So... let's say someone from the R tribe splits off, kay? Well... He and everyone who left are still part of the R tribe, they just started... their own R tribe, I guess. Now I could be completely wrong, but that's kind of how I took it.

I really like it! Wow, another art thread to stalk. I can't wait to see more.

There fixed that problem for you but you are a fine artist keep it up Armi! Yeah, I'll help fix that worry too. I couldn't draw well if my life depended on it. My girlfriend does all my art. Anyway, your stuff looks great! Can't wait to see more.

Just highlight what you want inside a spoiler, then click the spoiler button and that works. If you have unnecessary spoilers in your post, you can do a quick edit and delete the tags. Hope this helps.

What am I playing... Well, not much right now. I play Animal Crossing daily, but never for very long. I'm looking forward to ShadowRun Returns, which comes out this week. My God. It will be so good. If you haven't heard of it, look it up. Other than that, I'm just looking forward to ARR. Not much else, sadly.

The code strikes again! Edit: If the code derps for you, copy the code from the original post and do everything in a quick edit. That worked for me.

This is a fun idea. I must say, I had a lot of fun with this. X'sato's Loot Table

Item Name Drop Chance

Well-worn Spear 90%

Knife 60%

Old Silver Ring 100%

Romance Novel 1%

Silver Earring 20%

Blank Journal 30%

Knife: What adventurer would be caught without a good knife? It's a nice knife too. Maybe you can use it to kill your next victim. Old Silver Ring: It's rather rude to take someone's last gift from their mother, but what do you care? You killed him. Silver Earring: Not much to say here. It's just a silver earring he wore from time to time. He thought it looked good. Well-Worn Spear: A spear that's seen him for most of his life. This spear is the spear he used for the majority of the Holy War. Respect the dead and pawn it off in the next town, please? Blank Journal: He bought this meaning to write about his adventures, but never got around to it. He'd either forget or have nothing to write. I suppose now you can write about how you killed him in his own journal. Romance Novel: Not exactly what someone would expect a veteran of the Holy War to carry around. Before checking the contents for plot or anything, remind yourself the he had no friends. Now, forgive him for reading something "dirty" from time to time. Oh, and don't tell anyone. Not like they'd really know who he was anyway. Edit: Woo, fixed it. When I posted originally, the code duplicated and was just... bad. Sorry about that.

Balancing character personality (Mundane or Mary Sue)
Nox replied to Averis's topic in RP Discussion
When creating your character, how do you balance between being too boring and too snowflake? I'm going to say that I never think a character is too boring or, to be honest, too snowflake. If Office Space has taught me anything, even office workers can be interesting and fun. I just role what I want to role. Generally, I just write up a character's personality, then tweak and tweak and tweak (I mean, I even remade my whole character) until I'm happy with the outcome. Though, I do generally have the whole personality written in my head before I've even started writing. I always give my character flaws. Always. Some flaws aren't there yet, but I know they will be down the road. In X'sato's case, I made him socially awkward yet outgoing and self-sacrificing. So, to answer the question, I just role what I want to role. Just give your characters reasonable flaws and you'll be perfectly fine. You might just be like me and be terrible at writing apps, but your character is natural, fun, and awesome when put into practice. Edit: I forgot to put this. I find that asking "if" questions helps in creating a character's personality. Ask things that cover all the bases. How would my character react if... Someone they cared about was killed in front of them? (Drama) They were asked for their hand in marriage? (Romance) They were pulled into a bar fight? (Action-y) ect. They're pretty specific, but they give an idea. When role-playing with others, what character traits, personalities or actions have you found to be interesting and enjoyable to RP with and/or what have you seen just not work or appear too boring to engage your character? I haven't found a personality yet that wasn't enjoyable to rp. As long as the character isn't a Gary Stu/Mary Sue, it should be fun. I did play a blindly-loyal, overly attached girlfriend once and that was quite fun to play. I've had a lot of success with cynical characters, as well. I even made a character that was completely devoid of emotion once and even managed to make that interesting and fun. My background is in forum rping, so I can only speak for that. I find "meeting" threads to be terribly boring. Terribly terribly boring. Just two people going back and forth with nothing really exciting happening kills my "muse". So I make an effort to spice everything up. If anything seems too boring, make it a point to try and change that. Where do you find the line and when do you think it can be easily crossed while still being within the lore? What kind of advice would you give given your past experience. Oof. The line. I can't really speak much on the line, sadly. I generally only push the line with the ideas behind a character, then make it fit to lore in some way. As long as your character doesn't kick lore to the curb, I don't really see it being a problem. -
If you hit the required level (I think 20), it will.

Orlog's butts, butts, butts, and sometimes art thread.
Nox replied to Orlog's topic in Artisan House
Gotta say, love your art. Is that a Sister of Battle in your original post? If so, that's awesome. Love me some Warhammer 40k. Keep it up! -
Oh, "That guy". We all know that guy. I've never been in a random group ever (for the most part) that didn't have at least one.

Miqo’te Mating Strategies Explored: a biologist’s point of view
Nox replied to Myxie Tryxle's topic in Lore Discussion
I similarly bemoan this. IMO, miqo'te should have strong opinions regarding their tribal culture, and that should generate some conflict RP. I don't really see how a miqo'te who's aware of the culture couldn't have a strong opinion about it -- and those who came from tribal culture probably have some conflicted feelings about the city-state/adventurer cultures, and probably miss some of the elements of their home culture (such as, y'know, not seeing all of their fellow Seeker women being exotic sex workers). I know that I've, at least, tried to integrate these into my character's personality and backstory, though she generally doesn't make a big deal about it openly unless prompted. I generally agree, but would appear a hypocrite if you were to read about my character right now. X'sato was born so far removed from his cultural heritage, that he only knows about it through stories that are 3 generations old. I'm saving the culture clash for IC and in game, when he meets his tribal brethren for, pretty much, the first time ever. That being said, he doesn't have strong feelings about it, per se. He's not uncaring about it, in fact he doesn't much care for the culture of his tribal relatives. However, he acknowledges that he knows so little, that he has to actually discover more before he can really say, basically, "yeah, forget that." -
This is one thing that kind of bums me out. I like the idea of Miqo'te but I hate the execution. It's no one's fault. It's more the character creator than anything. I just never get a tribal feel when I see even the most primitive looking Miqo'te because of the fact that they all have boyish faces and "good guy scars". I know it's not fair to judge people on the game's limitations, but I would be all over that race if they were just a little more feral. They're just ...more kitten than lion. Off-topic, sorry. Also, byaaayyyy more serious Lalafell! I'd generally have to agree. Making a serious feral/tribal looking Miqo'te is kinda tough when they look like J-Pop Stars. I do think that serious Miqo'te characters are awesome and do-able though. I mean, I think my character is pretty serious and I'm thoroughly enjoying everything I write for him. Anyway, back to topic. Lalas are always awesome.

The speaker, a male Seeker ofthe Sun Miqo'te with black and crimson hair, approaches the crowd of his fellow Miqo'te. It seems as though his call reached them well. "Someone once told methat we all come from dust and that one day, we'll all become dust once more. For the longest time, I didn't want to believe him. I didn't want to face the truth and see reality, if that makes sense. Then I began to notice that what he told me was more true than I had ever imagined. This discovery wasn't just from watching those around me die. We all start somewhere and, as much as we might fight it, we return to our roots at some point. That is why I've called youhere, my brothers and sisters of the Tribes. I extend my hand, not as a Dragoon of Ishgard, not as a Gysahl. No. I extend my hand out to all of you as a proud Miqo'te. Some of us come from Tribes and some of us come from the cities, but we are all Miqo'te. Either Seeker of the Sunor Keepers of the Moon, it doesn't matter. With that in mind, I proposea... Tribe of some sort. Not a Tribe like what we've either left or never known. It's more of an alliance. A Miqo'te Nation, if you will. Now, I must ask. Do you stand with me? Will you look to your left and right and acknowledge those around you as companions. As brothers and sisters in this fight for our lives. We are the least populous race in this land, so we need to stick together. If you side with me, there isa basket of pearls here. Please, come take one. We'll be in touch." The speaker takes a pearl outof the basket and turns to leave. Rules IC RULES Support those around you. You don't have to like the person or want to breed with them, just support them. We're in this together. Don't try to beat the culture out of others. We're all different and unique. Just because you don't agree with tribal beliefs, doesn't mean you need to "culture" someone. OOC RULES Really, just have fun. Be respectful. Don't be afraid to ask for help if you need it. We're all adults, or teens who can act like adults, so cursing is allowed. But, try to keep it to a respectful minimum. As always, if you speak OOC, use parenthesis around what you say. I purposefully set this group at a mid-range "RP Intensity" because I expect it to be a resource as well as a source of fun and exciting RP. If you ever come up with a rule that's needed or something along those lines, please PM me and let me know. We'll talk about it from there. Directory This is filler text for now. I was thinking of doing a directory, that way everyone knows who plays who (especially useful for Alts) and so everyone can access a character's wiki really quickly. This is just mainly a thought for now.

If an offshoot of Gilgamesh players wants to make a sister LS, I'm happy to hand them everything I write. Edit: Or help make it, even if it'd only be through the site that I could help. Seeing as what I write is very specific to my character. Edit 2.0 : Let me know if anything needs to be changed.
-
It'd be a mostly in character thing, actually. I'll just put what I have right now here.
-
Before I go dump a few hours into making something for it to fail and seem racist, everyone is okay with a race exclusive linkshell, correct?
-
Great find, man. I'm excited to fight Odin. That'll be insane.
-
Pretty much this. This is why I remade my character. Trust me, my original character was, you guessed it, an outsider who wanted to be a Dragoon for the sole reason of "Dragoon is Lancer evolved". Then I got some critiques on that and wasn't happy with my character as a whole, so... I talked to a few people (Uther included) and made my character a lore friendly Dragoon. I wound up liking my character much more after the change too. I'm not encouraging you to throw everything you have out the window. I don't think any of us are. I did it because I realized that my former character was the product of laziness and I hated it. Anyway.
-
As I said earlier, I'll happily make and run the "Miqo'te Nation" (not the name) linkshell if the interest picks up. I have copious amounts of time on my hands, so yeah.
-
Actually, you'd be surprised. I reworked my whole character's history so it'd make sense as Dragoon because Dragoons are pretty much exclusive to Ishgard. I'm finding this increasingly true.

Characters in media that influence/are similar to your character!
Nox replied to Orlog's topic in RP Discussion
Oh, how I wish there were a simple answer for this. I have so many influences that I tweak here and there to make my characters that it's difficult to pin-point one or two. Because of that, I also find an extreme amount of trouble in finding a character that is similar. X'sato is like so many characters, yet different in so many ways. I suppose, if I had to choose one character that he was the most like off the top of my head, I might be stuck with... hm... Jin-Ho Myung, the protagonist of Unbalance x Unbalance (its a manwha, and a fantastic read). They're both driven to accomplish their goals, both are awkward at times, both face the challenge of questioning their direction, and both fight tooth and nail for what they believe in. I know that list is kind of a cop out because its extremely vague, but drawing comparisons is not my strong suit. Their personalities are similar, but not too much. Maybe just enough to say "similar". -
One of the things im glad hasnt changed from 1.0 .. the scenery. While i dabble in several mmos depending on my mood, only a few really possess the setting/scenery to really draw me more into the game when i play. this was one of them lol. everything about the game is wonderful and pretty to look at. I wonder, if i'll b able to find a way to save my character data if tweaking it on the pc, then later if i decide to load up the ps3 if i can load the saved character data cross platform or not.. hmm. as for the UI, i will hit that up in due time, since i plan to tinker with the game on both pc and ps3 i'll have twice the UI to play with. I have no level goals, never have any, never plan to start lol. Everyone will always 'progress' faster then me the way i play. Very casual, enjoy as much as i can as I go, etc heh. This wandering adventure gets more out of the journey then he would by setting a goal at the 'end' of the journey If I remember correctly, once your character is created you'll be able to play them on any system as long as you've purchased the software. As far as you and Desmond's playstyle goes, I completely agree. There are some things that I am very eager to accomplish in ARR, but I'm going to slow down and enjoy the work that SE has put into the game. Read all (and I mean ALL) of the dialogue, immerse myself into Eorzean lore, and revel in the experience they've built for us. I kind of feel bad having said I did set a level goal. I really hope that doesn't seem like I'll rush or anything. :frustrated: I... don't really have a social life outside of my girlfriend, so spending 12 hours in game on day 1 is... of high probability. I fully intend to read everything so I know as much lore as I can from playing, though, don't get me wrong.
