  1. Alright, I hit this point where I only have access to one quest (and I'm that awkward level where it's extremely difficult and there's not much I can do about it. The quest is "To Guard a Guardian", for those curious). I've done every levequest I can for now and I really just need to level once, maybe twice. Seeing as grinding monsters would take quite a while, what's a good way to gain some exp while I wait for my levequest allowance to reset? Should I just run around looking for fates? (Not a very rp discussion, I'm sorry)
  2. Currently, the unofficial rp server is Balmung. Edit: After launch, there's no telling. I don't think we know yet.
  3. If you'll have me, I'd be interested to join.
  4. Woo. Just got into Balmung. Super excited.
  5. In our names, can we really one have one capital letter per section? That makes Miqo'te names look... Awkward. Instead of being W'Dekan Tia, now it's W'dekan Tia. Am I just not pressing shift hard enough?
  6. I always thought Pugilist was melee dps along with Lancer and that MAR and WAR were the tanks. I might be wrong about that. Edit: HOW ABOUT SOME ACTUAL ADVICE, NOX, HOW ABOUT THAT? Yeah, in case I'm right, melee dps is one of the easier roles to play. You just know your skills (like what they do and how much damage you can generate, ect.) and use the skill that's fitting to that time. Most of the time its "what does the most damage" (be it a combo or whatever), but sometimes you need to use a debuff (if you have them). I hope my half awake ramblings help in some way.
  7. As much as I hate to double post... I'd like to tag Gospel as my potential mentor for help with building my character and making him concrete and lore-friendly.
  8. As someone who aspires to write later in his life, I find it interesting to hear other people's train of thought in relation to characters. With that in mind, I came up with this thread. I figured it might be interesting to hear from other people on the board about how they came up with their character(s), as it might aid in our growth as rpers to hear about another thought process. I'll start us off. W'Dekan started under my default character name "Nox" in the last phase of the beta. I attached "Ascalon"(The name of St. George's spear) as his surname because I figured it was fitting for a lancer. At that time, I didn't really have rp in mind because I figured "Hey, this is beta, I shouldn't become attached to him." Well, safe to say that thought didn't last long. I started to subconsciously develop this character in my head, adding personality and soul to the creation as I was playing. Slowly but surely, his personality developed. I find that my character's personalities always develop as a facet of who I am. W'Dekan came to embody the "new" me. I've had characters develop into embodiments of my anger issues and (to keep the list short) a few other parts of my psychological make-up. I designed W'Dekan's physical appearance the way I did because of, mainly, personal taste so there's not much to go on there.
  9. I think that's a pretty good idea. Certainly something like a Tumblr or something like that would be quite easy to maintain and easy to submit to. I'm happy to help in any way I can.
  10. Unfortunately, I can't contribute anything. This is a really good idea and I know I'd find it extremely useful. If I could contribute, I would happily.
  11. Not a problem. I figured I'd put that so it could be used as a reference just in case. That way no one has to watch a 13 minute video just to figure out what one stat does (if they ever need to check).
  12. I'm a male and have always played a male character. Though, recently, I've tried writing as a female and am told I do so quite well. I just find playing a male character to immerse me more, I find it easier to put myself in their shoes. That's just me though.
  13. Awwww, figured I should post up a couple pictures of my dog, Rudy. He's a rat terrier shih tzu mix. Such a strange combination.
  14. Found this while snooping around to answer a question I had and figured I'd throw this up here. Maybe it'll help someone else as well. Xjp5C4GoYJk TL;DR: Strength increases melee attack damage (obviously), but also how much damage is mitigated from a parry or block. Dexterity increases ranged damage as well as how often you parry. Vitality increases your hp (obviously). Intelligence increases spell damage. Mind increases how much healing you do. Piety increases maximum mp. I hope this helps someone.
  15. The Arcanist does raise that interesting question. It would be pretty nice to have a class that could switch between a dps and a support job, though. Interested to see how that works out. And thank you for the info. That makes a lot more sense now.
  16. I'm 19 and a sophomore in college (or University, depending upon where you live). I'm not exactly "new" to rp, but I'm not a veteran. I have... maybe 4-5 years under my belt. Kind of fitting that I'd find rping fun considering that I want to be a writer. Edit: Wow, I think I'm the baby
  17. W'Dekan (aside from the fact that he is a new character) stayed behind to live out the five cycles, plus he wasn't even at the battle (I don't think). Sounds like a really powerful character building experience.
  18. Hello. First time ever rping on an mmo, but at 19 I have quite a few years of forum rping and pen and paper as well. I'm not... particular about mentors and W'Dekan is extremely flexible as far as getting along with people. I'd love to be mentored until I learn enough to turn around and help the next new guy. Pay it forward, in a sense. My main questions are going to stem from lore and basically setting myself up. I look forward to a fun future rping and gaming with you all.
  19. Awesome, good to know. Thank you. Now just to figure out what stats I need to focus on. Even though I'm playing for rp and all, it's still nice to be useful. I'm guessing str and dex with some vit, but that's just an assumption.
  20. Alright, I'm just trying to get some clarification on the topic of jobs, how they function, and the such. I know that two classes make one job, such as lvl 30 Lancer and a lvl 15 Pugilist unlocks Dragoon, I believe. My question stems from purpose and use. Do you have to level jobs as well? Are jobs basically only used for dungeons and stuff like that? And for the ooc sake, is there anywhere that lists what stats are needed for what class? Sorry if I seem like I ask a lot of questions, I just want to make sure I have all my facts straight before I potentially cripple my character late game.
  21. About as close as I could get to Dragoon armor (Even though I'm so far from that right now.)
  22. From a fellow newbie to the site, Welcome!
  23. I chose Miqo'te, unknowing of how... popular they were. I chose them, specifically Seekers of the Light, for one reason. I remember reading in the brief description that they have strong legs, and my job is Dragoon, so it seemed like a perfect match. Kind of silly reasoning looking back on it, but I like the race.
  24. Nox

    Server?

That does clear it up, thank you very very much. So that means I should be able to get on Balmung (or whatever the potential rp server will be). Awesome, Awesome. Thank you very much. I suppose that means I'll cut back on my out of beta level goal.
