Yay. Can't wait to see what you have come up with.

Awesome! and wow that was fast. Thanks so much for the cool picture of Rogier! you certainly had him come close enough...
-
I fully intend to do this! And in fact my main RP character, though she is an accountant by trade, is a hobbyist in mathematics and conjury (I'll be leveling both conjurer-->white mage and arcanist-->summoner on her). As well, I will be compiling a record of all alchemical or otherwise-related reagents (what they do, habitat requirements, etc) as a resource for roleplayers. Super fun times! Rogier (my main) will be a magical researcher as well. He will be heavily focused on Arcanist and moving towards scholar. I am sure that he would be more than happy to have long winded discussions over how magic works with your character. Also, the way I see Arcanist magic working through the Aether would be "Adepts of the art of arcanum derive their might from symbols of power born of geometric techniques hailing from across the southern seas. Held within occult grimoires, these symbols lend shape to the arcanist's aether, thereby allowing him to produce myriad powerful spells. Using the selfsame symbols to unlock the latent power contained within gemstones, arcanists are also able to summon forth the familiar known as Carbuncle to carry out their bidding." From the official class web page The Arcanist use their own Aether, but unlike THM they "focus" their Aether through the symbols (kind of like a catalyst) allowing them to create much more powerful spells than they could on their own. Also they use this to tap into the Aether of gemstones and make it manifest itself instead of simply laying dormant. just my thoughts on the matter, nothing else to back it.

Def! Rogier has a very nice character design too so should be fun to interpret ^^:geek: yay I got in! er... I mean Have fun! I look forward to seeing your interpretation of Rogier since he doesn't really have much in the way of visual references yet.
-
Count me in line! It all look great so far, I am sure Rogier wouldn't mind being drawn. I will link to the page Rogier is on in the reference thread should you decided he suits your fancy. Rogier Reference thread

I won't be much help before phase 4(unless we get some bonus info from the devs), but as soon as they launch Arcanist I will gladly throw in all the Lore i can gather for this class. My character is based almost purely in being an arcanist, so i will be searching for any Lore i can find about this class.

I had to kind of think about this as well, Eva, as to why my Clan would use a physical line with a coded set of yanks and tugs used as signals for communication, when a linkpearl should work :dodgy: And, I also made mention that for whatever reason, linkpearl communication wasn't always reliable in certain subterranean locations. We'll have to keep an eye on a more thorough explanation why that might be the case if one turns up in lore or whatnot, but I'm comfortable with that assumption as-is for our purposes  It may seem a simplistic option(though it wouldn't explain why they wouldn't work) but one reason that LP communication may not have been in use by DW clans may be that it was viewed as an outsider tool. The clans could have chosen to avoid using this method of talking just because they wanted to distance themselves from everyone else. afterall, if we think of LP communication in terms of any type of communication through a medium that transmits waves, it could be "hacked" into by people with the right skill. maybe that wouldn't be easy becuase it functions like a radio but with a potentially much wider range of bandwidth options, so sifting through the various frequencies to find the one you are trying to listen in on. However if anyone ever captured/killed a DW with one of the pearls on them would make listening in that much easier. On the note of how Rogier would use a DW LP, I think he would use it more as a source of people he could trust with helping his research without asking too many questions. He would also be likely to help others, if it was requested of him. Though he may not jump at the chance to go interact with others. OOCly I would say that it would be a good tool to get rogier out of his books and into the world of others. It would also be a good way of building up a nice safe group that rogier could rely on, kind of like a clan since he technically doesn't have/know of a clan that he belongs to. He only had his parents and his fathers pirate crew(what little he saw of them) his life was otherwise secluded from everyone else.

First off, awesome post 1) It is nice to see thoughts on this from someone who has had the chance to see the USA from multiple areas and can really speak to a better view of how things are. also "Dividing folks based on skin color is asinine." seconded and great word choice. anyways back to dealing directly with the game... 2)I rolled out a WW in phase three and got exactly the same treatment as the Miqo'te I rolled in phase 2, so I will confirm that it doesn't matter what you are, if you are not from Gridania everyone is hated. 3) also cannot speak to Limsa (saved that story line for Rogier to explore and be fresh) But I imagine that Ul'Dah could care less what you are as long as your rich. as far as oppression goes, I think as long as someone has less money than you people might look the other way and just call it putting the person in their place. 4) It would be interesting to see if there are factions that are stirring things up again, or if there are groups working to remove any negative rifts. definitely an aspect to play with for some great RP. I am so happy to see so much discussion here. keep up the good posts everyone.

Answers: The Final Fantasy XIV Vocal project
LeCard replied to Tahrara Kivenera's topic in Artisan House
Even if I don't do anything I would love to see this project when it is done! Cool idea! -
I like the idea of having "it's the Duskwight's fault" be apart of the stigma. I could easily see someone blaming Rogier like that and he would completely miss why they were blaming him. Rogier has always had the stigma of a pirate father, and living around Limsa that gave him the same type of envirement as a duskwight in Gridania, so he would simply mistake it as a bash against his personal family and not a racist comment. and I would definatly join a Duskwight linkshell, could be interesting to RP some sort of lose affiation with others that way. It could also create an extra point of contact to pull Rogier away from his research and into interaction with others. Eva, it could also be a simple matter of exposure. (not sure how many people in the topic are from the USA, or even more so the south) But something interesting that I have noticed that occurred in the real world is that when the U.S. ruled that segregation was illegal and everyone started to truly live side by side( most importantly I've noticed are the children growing up together), The racist ideas dissipated very quickly (in regards to generations it took to remove). Specifically the Children of today see the stories of racist ideas and occasionally someone on some news program being accused of being racist and they cannot even comprehend why someone would feel that way because they are surrounded by the other races and see that everyone is the same, the smart kids are smart the jocks are jocks etc. but there isn't a category that one race holds claim to. Anyway, back on a more game focused point, Perhaps it is simply that Eva grew up around Wildwoods, and would therefore have potentially picked up some of their culture( even if unintentionally) and the wildwoods that watched her grow up would have of course seen that she didn't fit the sterotype that they thought she would. that could make things in their company lack the racial anxiety that might occur around other wildwoods.

voted B out. A) Sounds fun, and really who could say no to more female Roes B) seemed like the most bland story of the lot C) Ok so, giving C the don't leave me puppy face isn't fair... (also interesting story idea) D) Interesting to see a character that can make full use of the class switching ability provided in this game.

I will be rolling out a duskwight main for launch and am really excited to see a thread like this. I may have slipped the bounds of the duskwights a little, but i focused more on the solitary life and turning to banditry. Rogier was born to a pirate outside Limsa Lominsa and they lived away from society. I did start work on the mothers back story who somehow (haven't gotten that far back in her story yet) was trained by the conjurers guild. I haven't decided who he will view the other races, but I do know that he prefers working alone and only goes into society when he needs supplies. I hope this thread will help me build some stronger back story into the history of Rogier.

I would have no problem seeing Rogier used for art practice. Race: Duskwight Elezen Height: Very Short (by Elzen standards bordering on sickly). ~ 6 fulms, 3 ilms. Weight: Less than average. ~138 ponz. Body: Short by Elzen standards and sickly in appearance.(could even appear more effeminate in the face due to the lack of weight) Hair: Ink Blue with Aether Blue Highlights Eyes: Aether Blue Skin: Fair. Scars/Markings: none to date Avatar is my only screen cap if used, yay art, thank you! if not used, oh well

You know, it wouldn't be all that hard to change the genders of the parents in the story entirely to correct this misconception, having the mother be the headstrong, chivalrous thief and the father be the one who cares for the child. It'd also serve to promote headstrong women in my backstory moreso than Virgil's Roegadyn godmother. I kinda like that idea. Thanks! Happy to be of any help I can. Ferreting out little details on lore is something I do for fun, so if you get further stuff for me to look over feel free to pm me or something. Also, don't take anything I suggest as a must, it is just something to think about so that you have an answer for any questions that could come up down the road about why you picked option A instead of b,c,d,e,or f. or maybe you picked E and someone wonders why not A.
-
Just something I noticed that could make things seem a little odd, lore wise, is that you have the father a keeper and the mother a seeker (both the subordinate gender for their kind). This could be funny, in that they are fighting to name the child after the other person instead of the norm of trying to get the kid named after yourself, but it does present the issue of having neither one of them in a traditional position to say that the child should be raised one way or another. not saying that it should/ needs to be changed, just something to think about as your work on their back story. the other option being to have two dominate genders for parents(if you keep the mixed idea).(also, the "moon thief" title could have another meaning if the father is a seeker stealing away a keeper from her tribe)

Personally I am playing Rogier quite close to duskwight lore, though only by happy accident. Rogier is a research obsessed mage who avoids people in general in favor of his work. He was also raised away from any real society and may have a history with caves...

I will throw Rogier out there if you want to sketch something of him. My only good reference pic is my avatar, but feel free to give him longer hair if you want ( he is known to go days, maybe even weeks without looking up from his research) Race: Duskwight Elezen Height: Very Short (by Elzen standards bordering on sickly). ~ 6 fulms, 3 ilms. Weight: Less than average. ~138 ponz. Body: Short by Elzen standards and sickly in appearance. Hair: Ink Blue with Aether Blue Highlights Eyes: Aether Blue Skin: Fair. Scars/Markings: none to date Thanks in advance for anything you draw, and if you don't draw anything no worries.

Speaking of banners, it is something I have wondered about a long time and just never had the spot to ask. What software do you use/ prefer to use for making banners? Getting on this site I see so many beautiful character pictures that it has caused me to start sketching again (damn i got rusty) and eventually I would like to get into making a few pictures of Rogier (and once I get some nice ones on the computer a banner or two).

I was playing around with Roe character creation after reading this thread and here is what I came up with. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/wiki/images/thumb/2/24/Ffxiv_20130714_221332.png/800px-Ffxiv_20130714_221332.png[/img]http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/wiki/images/thumb/e/ea/Ffxiv_20130714_221313.png/800px-Ffxiv_20130714_221313.png[/img] I may have to work on an alt with this build. i like it more, the more i look at it.

if you want some help deciding based on the naming convention Lore here is a good link. FFXIV Lore to make it simple. Hyur = Anglo Saxon, Celtic, and Briton (midlander) Germanic or Normandic (highlander) Elzen= French Miqu'te= complex naming Lore (I have had alot of fun playing with name creation for this) Lalafell = Rhyming/rhythm Roegadyn= (best i can tell) Old Englishy if you have some kind of back story that could help alot with thinking of Ideas for you, also what class do you want to play as? that can help push you twords one race or another as well.

Welcome to the RPC and Final Fantasy! I am just getting started with FFXIV myself, but if you want someone to bounce ideas off of for characters i always have a free ear, or would it be eye in this case... I digress, i hope you enjoy the game and really get into the RP here.

I'm not very good an getting art on the computer, but I do enjoy seeing art of my characters. I only got a basic head shot of Rogier so far, since he is an arcanist. I don't want to make anything absolute until I can make a character with arcanist class, and hopefully by then some viable long hair option will be give for male Duskwights. Race: Duskwight Elezen Height: Very Short (by Elzen standards bordering on sickly). ~ 6 fulms, 3 ilms. Weight: Less than average. ~138 ponz. Body: Short by Elzen standards and sickly in appearance. Hair: Ink Blue with Aether Blue Highlights Eyes: Aether Blue Skin: Fair. My only screen cap is my avatar.

I will, though going more off the gist of the rules than the rather sparse Elzen lore section. They may have just as well said, "the Elzen are french deal with it". Any Moogle, I just took my current online ID and changed it from Roger to Rogier to be more french.

100 Questions to Ask About Your Role-Playing Character
LeCard replied to Vash's topic in Character Workshop
Here is Rogier's 100 (though it still needs some tweaking once we get more info about Arcanist) -
Rogier is defiantly Arcanist going into Scholar. Though he will have conjuror for a sub class to get some extra healing. I may also have him dabble in summoning further down the road.
