  1. While I would like to this you need an understanding, I haven't seen anything in game yet, so I don't want to put down the line and say you do then have SE come back later and say nope, just learn your spells and it works "magically" But as far as Rogier is concerned I intend to play him as needing a knowledge base (infact I'm doing an entire research journal for everything he has tested to date...still need to finish that/ do ALOT more work on it). I like the idea of the ACN needing more knowledge about their spell than just " say the magic words and poof" magic. Edit: To FreelanWizards point on healing the dead I like this quote "It just so happens that your friend here is only MOSTLY dead. There's a big difference between mostly dead and all dead. Mostly dead is slightly alive. With all dead, well, with all dead there's usually only one thing you can do. Go through his clothes and look for loose change. " Who knows where this comes from?
  2. CNJ quest lines: insert spoiler here
  3. Welcome to the RPC and as faceman said, if you have questions feel free to ask.
  4. the Alchemist quest line does talk about taking poisons and turning them into healing item( aka using the snake to make an antidote). You could go along these lines, and if your looking for something a little more sinister or "adventurers aid" type of stuff there are potions that give the effect of sleep/paralyze etc. also, don't forget Ether potion, Hi potions and the like. So really you could do quite a bit in RP as a potion crafter. and I'm sure if there was a RP vender of such items there would surely be a few Melee characters willing to buy your wares. (at least I've seen a number of people on here talk about not being able to use magic(or being very poor at it) so RP wise it would make sense for them to keep a few first aid items on them.
  5. ROFL! I could totally see a Lala useing those exact words.
  6. No, the green-quality ones - things like the Acolyte's set and such. They're undyeable, which is seriously disappointing. I'd also be willing to bet that endgame gear is largely going to be undyeable, which is just... why even have dye in the first place argh. The same could potentially be said for crafting gear. Unless they start making gear with a bonus greater than dungeon dropped gear, crafting is for aesthetics only. Right now(till level 25? at least) dungeon dropped gear is better than crafted gear five levels higher(without materia). I only switch from my level 15 dungeon gear at level 22 when I finally got crafted gear that had equal to or great stats. and shortly after I started getting the next set of dungeon dropped gear. so really, what good is crafting except to affix materia to you dungeon gear, or make place holders till you get that lucky roll.
  7. If they are doing Amourer, Black Smith, Carpenter, Leather worker(maybe others too) You could use the idea of testing the goods before you sell them as a reason to level any number of Melee classes. Weaver, alchemist(others?) could use the excuse of testing if the magical Items do their job or not. just an idea if your looking for a reason to have a Primarily Crafter Character know some, or alot about the weapons. After all a master Smith would know everything there is about the swords he makes. Edit: and because I think the crafting method is so similar to FF crafting, Just look at "sacred blacksmith" anime for a sword smith that is also a master swordsman.
  8. So, I had wondered about this until someone actually explained it on skype last night. The problem with server capacity, apparently, is that the duty servers are actually the ones causing the problem. So they've put a cap on all the servers to keep the people using the duty servers to a manageable level. Once they upgrade the duty servers, they'll be able to use the regular servers to the capacity that they were built for - which is a lot higher than they are current set at. That's why the message indicates that they are upgrading the duty servers but not the regular servers because the regular servers actually aren't the problem. And it means that after the data center has been upgraded (which is primarily intended to upgrade the duty servers), then they'll be able to raise the cap and hopefully unlock the other servers to allow more people to play. I hope this helps I didn't see anyone else explaining this. And I can't promise I did a really good job, but that's my understanding. [Details] - Addition of new Worlds - Implementation of countermeasures to handle the influx of concurrent user counts as a result of split processing the duty finder That is from the SE loadstone. This tells me that A) New Worlds(aka servers) will be added. (that is sorely needed when you consider that the JP servers are overrun with NA/EU runoff) B) As you said, the Duty finder servers will be upgraded. (the cause of the 90k error) Personally I think they will need to handle the capacity of another 15-20 servers(worlds) for the NA/EU. I says this because all 50 of SE's servers are at capacity right now. and most of the people clogging the servers are Na/EU. basically we so over ran their estimate of launch players that we may have almost doubled it.
  9. From the Loadstone This should mean that Wed. morning we will see the new servers and the problem will hopefully be fixed.

  11. bad Bea, Bad! do not give me ideas that Miyazaki died! if it wasn't for that one key word "much" I might have actually freaked out.
  12. from my experience up through level 23 the best gear is generally listed as "unique" the level 5 or 10 gear is your "unique robe/armour" and at level 15 you can start working towards dungeon drops. The level 15 dungeon dropped gear is good to at least level 20. At level 20 you can switch to what I will call "temp" gear, or crafted/purchased till you can get level 20 dungeon drop gear. It is sad, but the best gear is generally going to be dropped from dungeons, and that means everyone will look alike. Unless they start implementing some crafting bonuses that make wearing crafted gear =/> dungeon gear. And unless you are incredibly unlucky about 10 runs through a given levels dungeon(s) should get you all the gear you need. Edit: a note about Asyria's mention of Dyeing. Dungeon gear with green around it cannot be dyed. While dungeon gear with a pinkish color to it can be.
  13. My Roe from the JP servers.(taken from the loadstone)
  14. you can always do what myself and my friend have taken to doing. Go to the front door, look for people with the que symbol above their head and invite them to a party. Get at least one ACN in your group and it won't be too bad. get two and the dungeons are a breeze.(at least up through Halatali)
  15. See, that doesn't work at all once the game ages a month or two, and we begin to see inactive accounts. Characters that just kinda stay in the server databases until such time the player logs back in. The problem you run into here it that they plan for X number of players to be on a server at one time. The X is based on the number of people they expect to be playing at what they believe will be peek hours. the number of characters they allow to be created (new characters only here, Alts mean nothing as the player cannot log into two at the same time) would be Y. And they get Y by looking at the number of people they expect to be on at "odd" hours. (meaning they plan for more people than the server can handle at one time, but they don't expect those people to all be on at once)(basically they are kiting the servers load trying to keep it mostly full at all hours to make a better community) Since not everyone is in the same time zone, they expect people with normal jobs to only be on at normal hours, those hours are the peek hours. The problem they are running into right now is that the number of players that joined the game is way above the number of people they planed for. So much so that even the JP servers have been overcrowded by the overflow of the NA/EU servers. This means that not only did they not guess the correct number of people for the NA/EU, but they so under guessed it that all 50 of their servers are at max cap. and people are still locked out. This tells me that they need to add the capacity of another 15-20 servers for the NA/EU
  16. Another note, once ACN gets Aetherflow 2 you can activeate Aetherflow, use energy drain (aetherflow drops to Aether 1) and if you need to you can hit energy drain again before aetherflow reaches its cool down.
  17. only times I wouldn't agree would be when a FC is trying to get enough people to have a decent group size for end game runs, OR when stuck on the JP servers( like I have been) due to maintenance/errors and they are trying to pool all the NA/EU refugees into a large enough group to be able to get stuff done(in parties you can understand)
  18. ACN gets a nice spell when they take on SCH. its called succor and it heals HP at a power of 300 plus the amount of HP healed is turned into a barrier that negates damage to that amount. So say the SCH heals for 200 hp, that heal also posts a 200 damage barrier on the target. (so effectively a 400hp heal?) Edit: also if Crit hp is healed the barrier is doubled. this means that you could just play rotate the heal( heal player 1, player 2, player 3, player 4 repeat) and as long as the enemy isn't doing more than 400 damage in the 15 seconds max it takes to do that your party would never take even one hp in damage to their bars.
  19. ...I like you, you can stay. And on the Medica debate, I personally -rarely- use it. I rarely enough AoE damage unless everyone stands in the giant red circle to excuse it's mana cost. Medica costs an arm and a leg, I would only use it in an emergency. ...However, that is also the appeal of it, isn't it! It was very useful during the Brayflox final boss fight where everyone stands in the goo. one quick thing i will say in medica's defense is that it also heals carby. sort of a nice added bonus. also, what lvl is brayflox? if it is level 30 or later, just get the Jobs for your classes and run from there. is there really any reason after level 30 to not grab the job?(or is brayflox part of story that leads to jobs?)
  20. I keep seeing this, but what dungeons? I have yet to find a single dungeon(up through Halatali) that I cannot keep the party at max health with physic alone. @Koyu You can see the pets health bar above their head. I was even able to keep an ACNs carby healed up just by angling the camera so carby was in view, though this can be difficult with alot of people/enemies names floating about. just a hint, carby is the green name tag. Also, a CNJ should NEVER be yelled at for a carby going down, it is the ACN pet and there for the ACN job to keep them alive. we even have skills just for that.
  21. To throw in my two gil, it's usually the Conjurer's fault. I made this mistake for the first few dungeons as well. The thing is, Cure costs very little mana and generates a -high- amount of hate. So people tend to get bored and spam it as insurence, or start casting it -as- the tank is running in. But of course if they choose to break the meta, that just makes my job harder, which keeps me awake. SO that's a plus! hmm, good to know. Might consider watching future CNJs and seeing if I need to tell them to hold off. also, HAHA! well glad there is something that mixes things up for you. Also, and feel free to tell me your feelings on this. I tend to select a different target from the tank and sort of make a sub party of myself and topaz to kill one target while the other three focus on the other enemy(or other two if there are three.) sometime I will let carbuncle to its business with the enemy and throw some spells at the one that has the least number of people attacking it. unless the tank is attack one and the DPS is hitting the other, then I target the tanks target.
  22. while I can see what your saying, I can't count the number of times I have had to save the CNJ with my Topaz because the tank couldn't keep the mobs under control. The rounds I do have a CNJ I spend alot of my time playing defend the healer. I sick Carbuncle on one mob and distract another while the tank and other DPS are tackling a single mob (also, neither myself or Carbuncle ever get in the danger zone for HP because I pay attention to both our HP bars)(maybe I just get stuck with crap tanks alot, but that has been my experience with having a CNJ in the party)
  23. I tend to stick with topaz at all times. Sure emerald might get in a little more damage, but topaz can hold off(even kill most of the time) an enemy. And i haven't really had any issue with keeping people all healed up. (though it sounds like your issue arose out of poor judgement on the part of the CNJ and where they were going). If the party opts to stick together and take the mobs one group at a time, medica isn't needed at all. The only time I ever had trouble keeping a party alive is when I was playing one man down through Halatali, and even still we beat the boss after we figured out what we need to time when.(though it was still a supper close call.) also, with the exception of medica, you really get all the needed skills (protect and raise namely) with the exception of esuna (though I have yet to find a need for it). Its just a matter of smart cross skill acquisition to make ACN a great healer until they can grab SCH
  24. haha, that is sadly very true. Though as ACN I find myself leading the charge alot, then fall back and heal once the tank finally gets hate back from carbuncle(if that ever happens). Carbuncle is just made of awesomeness. there said it, everyone can move back to healing talks. I've actually let the carbuncle do its thing on one enemy while the rest of the party targets another, and I target yet a third. half the time carbuncle and I get our targets down to half health before the party can beat their target.(unless I have to stop and heal) Edit: something else I would like to see done if it hasn't been already. A party made of nothing but ACN. Think about it, you have an 8 man party in a 4 man only dungeon! haha four tanks, four healers, and everyone can damage decently
