  1. Kylin, I may not have been able to see you at work in you hayday, but since I joined this site in beta phase 2 I've seen nothing but awesome from you and the rest of the RPC staff. I must say that I will watch the changing of the guard for this site with a touch of trepidation as I wait to see who our new commander at the helm will be. I wish you well Kylin, and I wouldn't wish anyone to feel burdened in the name of RP, if it starts becoming a job and not something fun then it defeats the whole purpose of RP. I hope you stepping down from the helm will give you the break you need so that you can relax and enjoy all the fun of this RP community that you have lead to such a cool place.
  2. Bringing this back to life to grab some of my fellow DW players on balmung for a story arc to get Rogier deeper into the society. So, i will need at least two volunteers, but I will take all I can get. Now these two(or more)) will be the one that "bump" into Rogier and get him to start learning more about duskwight life. Now I can think of at least one, maybe two of you who will probably jump at this call, but the rest of you can feel free to jump in on this too . I don't have any specific days/times for this so it will just be whenever you see me on and want to grab Rogier for some adventure =). you can reply here, or just shoot me a PM, either works. if there is something more you want to know, or something specific you have in mind for a plan that you want to run by me before you ambush Rogier that's cool too!
  3. They may add some support jobs after we get to enough people doing end game only dungeons with 8-24 man parties. Prior to that a support only role wouldn't have really fit into the combat needs of a party. I suspect any such job will also have a DPS/Heal/Tank second job for the class it comes from, because frankly a Support only job wouldn't be able to finish the main story without some serious difficulty. There may be an opening in a 24 man dungeon that could allow for such a job style to be added, but until then I don't see it being very useful. also they would have to mod the debuffs so that it could effect a boss without being OP. If the don't mod the debuffs to work for bosses your support class would become just a really weak healer/dps class in boss rooms.
  4. That's actually not true. At the bottom of the MRD Guild in Limsa, there are 2 Yellow Jackets practicing their aim with pistols. So, I suppose there are one or two models. Ooooh, I'll be damned. I did not know that . I think her second in command person (or who ever the Hyur with the tricorner hat is) has a pistol on his hip as well.
  5. ok...you made me do it. Etymology time =) According to the Oxford English dictionary: Elite: A group of people considered to be the best in a particular society or category. Elitism: The Advocacy or existence of an elite as a dominating element in a system or society; The attitude or behavior of a person or group who regard themselves as belonging to an elite Elitist: A person who believes that a system or society should be ruled or dominated by an elite; A person who believes that they belong to an elite; adj. favoring, advocating, or restricted to an elite -ism: Suffix, denoting an action or its result: Denoting a state or quality : denoting a system, principle, or idelogical movement: denoting a basis for predjudice or discimination:denoting a peculiarity in language:denoting a pathalogical condition. also under a seperate heading A distictive practice, system or philosophy, typically a political ideology or an artistic movement. according to Webster online the origin of the word Elite is thus: French élite, from Old French eslite, from feminine of eslit, past participle of eslire to choose, from Latin eligere First Known Use: 1823 TL;Dr? cliff notes:Elite=good Elitism= 50/50 good/bad Elitist=bad Elitist are your problem here, and what we should be/ are really talking about here. For those that did read it all, take a cookie and leave your more informed ideas on the matter below =)
  6. Hehe, yea....Sun Tzu would be laughing at all this. Tzu would probably fall under villain now a days, as he uses real tactics to slaughter us all and take over the world while we sit here and try to "play by the rules". The rules would just be a nice little piece of cheese for him to get us to follow into his traps. Though now that i stop to think about it, is modern war anything other than it twitched shoot it? maybe games really ARE too realistic =P
  7. Another 2 cents from me. To be elite is something that you should have others say about you, not something you say about yourself. If you truly are an Elite at anything others will more than openly acknowledge your skills, but if you HAVE to tell others that you are better than them, maybe you aren't as hot as you think. The best attitude for anyone to have is one of humilty, if you go into everything thinking that there is something more you can learn two things will happen: 1) you will learn something from it, maybe not ground breaking, but you will learn something 2) If/When you reach the level of an elite people will sing you praises for you, and no one will hate you for your attitude of being "above" them edit: just because you reach number 2 does not mean your attitude gets to change, going in to everything as if you can learn something still applies, but even the best of the best can still get better. Perfect doesn't exist.
  8. ok, I'll bite.... That is the technical definition of the term. The second definition is likely the most common for our purposes. And unfortunately the act of trying to be elite in something means that having a non-elite member in your activity will weigh you down. Unfortunately this means that those who do not also posses the patience to teach someone and bring them up to the elite level will become frustrated with the presence of others who cannot match their quality standards. The frustration can result in someone coming off as much more harsh and unmoving than perhaps they really are. What we really need to do is take a step back and when someone who is trying to learn comes around, maybe we excuse ourselves if we cannot stand the lack of quality, or maybe we point the player to someone who is good at teaching. NOW, the above does not apply to those who do not want to learn or who refuse to give anyone the chance to learn. Just because someone hasn't had the practice to be skilled at writing or RPing does not give them a free pass to blatantly ignore the rules and do as they will, it also does not give someone the free pass to be a jerk because they are elite and the new person isn't. I could go on, but this is already a wall of text....so I'll sit on my hands now =)
  9. Not to say i'm anywhere close to up to date with current FPS games, those tend to be that last thing i pick up on my list of games to play, but I know from the last CoD game I played that friendly fire was instant game over, and the same applied for the very very very few civies that were in the game. 99% of the possible targets on the field were in fact baddies and had the free to kill on them. The only way I could see games getting more realistic in this type of respect would be to add a sort of PoW feature instead of just busting in a room and killing all the bag guys without any option for them to surrender. Now of course it would get boring if everyone gave up, but having the random enemy throw their hands up and surrender would add some realism to the game, and force the player to pay attention to the room instead of the standard, it twitched shoot it rule. Also, zombie games are not included in this, in a zombie game if it twitches it dies! OK, I'll stop here.....
  10. Dat Berserk remake tho! Haven't watched the Eva. remakes. Hell, never really watched the first series either. Apparently the original had like three different endings that were somehow canon or some shit? So I was like...yeah I'm good. I'm a huuuuuge fan of Eva. And yeah it's confusing as hell to watch. It took me a few sessions to figure the whole thing out =p Eva for the win! And to be fair the first two ending are one in the same, just one is the plot of the episode and the other is the shinny anime part =P they blew the budget on the series.... The new movies are ok, but the latest one made me wonder where they are going with this set, cause it sure aint Eva anymore. < I have theories, but will reserve them for private conversation where spoiler tags aren't need =)

  12. Well first off, Faiy Tail rules! Now that that is out of the way, I would list all the stuff I've watched in the past 4 years, but that list is way too long (594 GB on my PCs hard drive alone) I spent those 4 years in my university's anime club and we met every Sat. night to watch two episodes each of aprx. 5 different anime a night. we went through alot.
  13. Écriture Du Arcanum (Rogier's journal)
  14. Also a college student here (masters degree in progress) If you happen to see Rogier in the limsa markets feel free to send me a tell or what have you for some RP. He is a DW Arcanist who is obsessed with his research. He isn't the most talkative person, but he is a good listener.
  15. With story missions you can easily get from 1-15 in an afternoon. Just a matter of knowing what your doing. Now, for the player looking to explore each city-states opening(been there done that several time over) the longest City story is by far the Limsa story line. A friend of mine and myself did a "tour of Eorzea" playing all the opening story missions, and we noticed that Limsa took at least an hour longer than the the other two to get to the level 15 quests where everything converges. So if you looking to start in a different city for a different look on thing, then it could take a day or two to get back to where you were, but you will know what your doing so it will be alot easier. However, if your just looking to rebuild your character (name/class/base stats etc.) then you can blow through the cut scenes you've already watched and get to level 25 in a couple days with ease (unless you get caught in the crafting sink hole of addiction I did with my last character...it's just too much fun.) TL;DR It's easy to level in this game if you know what your doing. P.S. if you plan on using a class that needs cloth based Armour I have been leveling my weaver and can get you some good beginning gear just send me a tell.

  17. hehe, I did that tonight on my alt(MRD) why do the DPS insist on charging ahead to their doom? I try to set things up with markers for a nice clear order of when things die, and some DPS jumps the gun and gets all the mobs locked on them... This isn't XI where the archer pulls and then the tank steals the hate easily. nope in XIV who ever hits it first is GOING to take damage, and a decent amount too. I end up spamming my AoE just to get things attention, and that's not cheep on the TP cost. I've had a couple good parties that let me do my job and tank, but those are too far and few between. It is quite draining to have to tell the party what to do the entire way because no one knows how to not attack the mob that is happily wailing on me, but is marked number 3 and we are still killing number 1... I feel so sorry for tanks after playing my first few trips of halatali and toto-rak as a tank.(is it really worth the instant que times?)
  18. Just got rogier to SCH so if you need a healer, for ques OOC of course, feel free to send me a /tell. not sure how much good I would be on dungeons with a cap below 22, but 30 and up I can assure of some nice healing skills.
  19. I know what you mean, I've only been a tank for a few days and it's burning me out already. Run a copperbell party, tell the new people about the bosses, and an archer (of course it's an archer.) at the last boss decides; "Ignoring the adds and focusing on the boss the entire fight is the better plan, you must be new or something." We proceed to barely win the fight, with about 6-7 extra giants in the room with us at that point, mind you. His comment then? "That fight took too long, you guys should do more damage." since i'm seeing this fight being discussed I thought I'd bring up an interesting strategy a group of mine used. Pull the boss to where the second set of adds come in. Let the tank pull everythings hate and DPS spams AoE (works best if you have THM). The adds drop like flys and your still focussing dmg on the boss. also, as an added bonus, when the limit break is ready everyone is in one spot, meteor it up and watch things drop.
  20. hmmm. The only two AF Job gear that I can think of that is in fact a constant color scheme because it really only comes from one character in all the titles, would be Dragoon. (unless you want to count freya as a dragoon, but that is an entirely different look, not that I don't want the freya look). And The ever present WHM look from the original games. Paladin- Knight look, nothing else FF specific about it. Monk- I don't recall any yellow monks from FF BLM- close but really just the basic BLM look, it's no Vivi(unless your a lala, then it darn close) BRD- reminds me more of kefka than an playable FF character WAR- looks like it walked out of Dragon Age or Skyrim SMN- Classic look, but mostly just the horn, it's all about the horn SCH- I don't even remember ever seeing this in an FF game. WHM&DRG= FF classic change the color and it looses its awesome factor by over 9000 TL;DR DRG & WHM are the only two jobs that have Iconic AF gear from previous FF titles (unless someone can prove me wrong, and I'm not talking about SMN horns, yes they have them yes their awesome, but I don't recall a standard color between games.)
  21. Having the AF gear being undyeable would be fine by me. It is the Iconic class gear for the game and as such it is easier to put them in marketing when they have only one color. However, the rest of the gear is just gear, and as such should be dyeable. I don't mind the way the dyeing system works right now, but being able to dye some of the cooler looking gear so that I'm not one of a sea of many would be awesome.
  22. Is it just me or were the Green colored items, such as plundered gauntlets, used to be undyeable right? I just tried dyeing my gear and found out my green colored gear icon was also up for dyeing. I check the Foestriker set, it is still undyeable, did I just over look things before or did we get more stuff that we can dye?
  23. Hrnnngh -Switches to Red Chakra- I CAN DO THIS. But yeah, chucking rocks at things even with Cleric stance is horribly tedious and takes ages. And Dots might actually be perfect if I can just insta cast all over like 5 things and watch them die. Considering I'm looking for this purely to farm mobs, as I don't have any intention of using it in raids unless, of course they need me to. (Who am I kidding I'll be RPing.) SO I think Summoner might be perfect... Minus the tacky outfit. -Huffs- To be honest that's petty much level 24 Arcanist for me so far, I almost get a sadistic pleasure out of it. Send in the pet to tank, mob attacks pet, apply DoTs, just watch as the mob's health falls all the way down, usually dying before any of the DoTs finish. But with pet control and pet healing, emnity management, you can easily take on a few mobs at a time, cast the DoTs and sit back. It's pretty damn relaxed, even if a mob takes you by surprise, you've got a mini tank there to distract them. I can't imagine Summoner being that different, just meaner pets and deadlier DoTs. I believe also at around level 40, there's a spell that spreads your DoTs from a target to surrounding enemies? The ACN spell that spreads the love is the Level 30 class quest skill. You have to be under Aetherflow and it uses one Aetherflow with each cast(meaning a possible 2 casts off one cast of Aetherflow.) However, since it consumes you Aetherflow you lose a cast of the absobtion spell for everytime you cast the spreading skill.
