Have Main on Balmung and Alt on Mateus, or Transferring to Mateus Soon?
Kailani replied to KLR's topic in FFXIV Discussion
You cannot transfer to Balmung right now. It's on lock-down. -

Not for FFXIV, but I've done this before for writing in past relationships or experiences for my characters that I play in present day settings. That or missions where my character is MIA presently in RP, but is out in the world doing things. I love forum and out of game RP because of the detail and time you can put into it. It's a great thing to do if you find the right people.

I've actually been running instances all morning and haven't had an issue with the duty finder since right after launch. -

I do share in your desire to see bigger crowds spaced out throughout Eorzea sometimes. But as some have said in other threads, a lot of people don't like those big groups because chat spam and emotes get too crazy to follow. But there is plenty of smaller RP going on. I've been grinding out an alt for the last month or so to finish her before SB and I see RP everywhere in the world. This includes zones level 20-50+ now and it's been really entertaining. It may not be a huge group of 30+ people, but I see small groups in many of the quest hubs and even sitting out by some lakes fishing, chatting in /say with public emotes. So RP is absolutely out in the middle of the world. The Quicksand is self run basically, and every level player can reach it just about so it'll always be popular. My suggestion would be to wait for SB to worry about it much. At that point, so many people will be out of the "usual spots" and in the new world. At that time, I can only suggest you find some new place that you think would be an amazing new RP hub, and maybe start dedicating your time to be there and also advertise something for it. If it's a bar or tavern, you can probably find some folks to help out with bartending and serving at least until it gets off the ground. It's really the only way something new will pop up as others have said. It takes time and effort to establish anything that'll last long term.

I chose "Other" since we're a group of pirates and don't really work for anyone other than ourselves. May want a Criminal/Badguy entrepreneur type up there.

discussion Your thoughts on jump potions?
Kailani replied to Parth Makeo's topic in FFXIV Discussion
This will be a problem for sure, though hopefully it'll work itself out in the end. When WoW started up with their boost tokens, it was a nightmare as a healer when all these tanks came out of no where. :dazed: I'll attempt to be optimistic about it though. I already know the class I'm using and plan to take some time to work out the kinks/seek advice before I throw myself into anything that could get others killed. -

If SE was to designate an RP server, would you move?
Kailani replied to ExAtomos's topic in RP Discussion
I agree with this. Half of my friends on Balmung aren't even RPers, yet are very active with PvE and respect the community as it is. And I can't think of a single friend of mine who does RP, who doesn't also take part in PvE. I think the server we have now is a good mix. I'd say "just expand the server capacity!", but to what extent? It's one of the biggest servers, and when new people start they tend to look for the most populated. So it would be a never ending endeavor. =\ -
I'm pretty excited about the jump potions. I have one main alt I play and really wanted to get her caught up by the time SB launched and this way I can. \o/

If SE was to designate an RP server, would you move?
Kailani replied to ExAtomos's topic in RP Discussion
It's nice to know they did that on the EU realms at least. >.< I played on the main NA RP server (at least by population standards) for many, many years and not a single instance of harassment, unless there were threats involved, were handled just from what I saw among friends/guilds. Reporting names didn't do much either unless it was super lewd or offensive and people used /shout channels for all kinds of annoying things, especially when a guild would be trying to use a zone for a big RP event. Most times the GM's simply said "put them on ignore". It's just really hard to enforce much when you have so many players on a server, especially when not everyone who plays there is a roleplayer. I had only about 10% RPers in my guild and the rest of it was there for raiding, though I strictly enforced the "don't be an asshole on the server" rule with my folks. So you just never really know. Policing things like this really isn't a top priority unless again there are threats involved and it's really unfortunate. I personally wouldn't move now if they did start tagging servers as RP Servers. After just getting a house and the nightmare that comes with that all over again, it's not worth it to me. I've also made a good amount of connections with players who are not RPers and I know they wouldn't move so, I'm pretty much content to stay put. -
Not even a thing of them not visiting the website "often", many RPers who are on Balmung aren't even a part of this website or other RP websites. I've met a good amount in game just via grouping and chit chat who have no interest in online communities like this and prefer to make connections in game. Or they just use Enjin. I would suggest once this is all figured out, that someone posts the information on the OF though since it's where my friends ended up going to look for alternative routes. But I've pointed them towards Mateus since it seems pretty populated there and popular by the looks of this poll. They didn't want to wait another week for this decision to be made when getting ready for Stormblood. Oh, also question.. With this: Why? Are you yourself going to be moving all your characters to the new server too? Because it seems you personally are putting an extended timeline on a pretty big decision, and I'm guessing quite of a lot those who did vote may want a determination earlier to find their own home. Just something to consider.

I've been on Balmung since about November and have brought a few people to FFXIV with me. Unfortunately another one of those friends decided to take an extra month to decide she does want to play and bought the game last week. Was "going to transfer after maintenance" and now she's screwed. I was going to wait for this poll in the other thread but putting off more time when she's wanting to max out before Stormblood seems like a waste, so I'm sending her and others who will probably join up with her to Mateus. Seems like some people from there are aggressively making an effort to create a communicative RP community and it's really all you can do at this point. I will probably transfer over an alt as well. I really do feel for those who wanted to join friends on Balmung, but at this time I highly doubt SE is going to make any alterations to their initial post, regardless of how many people post on the OF with complaints. For those who are new and upset, please don't let this ruin your FFXIV or Stormblood experience. It'll all settle down eventually and if the word gets out and those on the alternative RP server ALL pitch in, there's no reason it can't be just as vibrant as Balmung someday.

discussion Alternate RP server (Updated 5/18/17)
Kailani replied to Mercer's topic in FFXIV Discussion
I kind of agree on getting the ball rolling with a vote since there has been quite a lot of feedback already. Seems there has been a good amount of people who have started playing the game in the last few weeks who will not want to spend money to transfer, so it is really just putting off their game play at this time I know some want to hold off until they find out which server has perks, but you have no idea when that will happen and people could be two or three weeks into that character by then and won't want to move I really do hope that an alternate server is created and it flourishes. My only true concern with it is that when Balmung re-opens its gates, how many people will throw in the towel and just transfer. My only other suggestion as well is not to consider that any single person or free company is the "leader" or figurehead of a community. The community will only thrive if multiple people and groups help make that happen. The last thing the server needs is to start out with a king of the hill mentality. You don't need cliques before things have even started -
discussion An EU server, for EU roleplayers *UPDATED 14/06*
Kailani replied to Swanmay's topic in RP Discussion
What happens to all the NA players who are currently in a FC that is run by a EU player if that leader decides to move? Just asking out of pure curiosity since I know there are some pretty active guilds that have both EU and NA players in them. -
My comment really only has to do with the preventing of new players transferring to avoid the irate mob that won't be able to log in on the day Stormblood launches. Coming from a game where an expansion release caused servers to crash nonstop, people being unable to log in for hours if not days, and the idea of pissing off many loyal subscribers... I get it and I appreciate it. It really ruins the whole feeling that a new expansion initially brings when you sit at the login screen for hours and hours, only to be kicked out of queue and to start all over. Instead of them being able to focus on account issues and bugs in game, they will have to take on the immense amount of emails and tickets of infuriated players simply because of a queue and disconnects. Though saying all of that, I absolutely agree that the transfer restriction should not last more than the inception of the expansion itself because as most people here have said, this server has deep roots and the only way for it to continue to flourish is through new blood. I myself have brought over four or five friends since I started playing and would hate to think that others couldn't be granted the same right to play on Balmung. But I'm not going to get my tail feathers in an uproar right now since we have no idea how long it'll last and it seems they are already trying to give perks to those who play on other worlds. If I was a new player who came here to play on Balmung, I would just start on one of those other worlds and hang tight (not to mention, take advantage of the perks). Learning the game and leveling up with friends on your screen absolutely does enhance the experience but I wouldn't let that stop me with the possibility that transfers could open up again after the madness ends. I really do hope to see another server take on the enthusiasm people have for Balmung's RP community though. It would be fantastic to have such an obvious showing of players who are here for the roleplay. Tagging just a few servers would help immensely.

See I had NO idea (and just found out about RP in party finder the other day >.> ). Would be nice if there was a list of such places. *coughs* But I'll keep an eye open for yours next time Kai has a business or even social meet up.

I sometimes wonder if there are FC houses or even personal ones that are set up with a tavern like setting and open to the public on a regular basis for things like this. The Quicksand is extremely popular, too much so if you're trying to IC "meet in the city" with a contact or for something like this post suggests. Sure there are other bars in other cities, but sometimes people want an audience to fish out more connections. I think it's pretty awesome you are offering up your time. I hope some people who are struggling in the population take you up on it.

I'm not sure what your exact experience was as you seem pretty fired up. But as someone who ran guilds for 15 years, I can say that it's a lot easier to keep people out of your FC/guild than to deal with the drama that usually comes with removing them after the fact. It's also the responsibility of the GM/leadership to protect what they have put a lot of time and energy into creating, and to make sure every applicant actually fits since their current membership is counting on them to not bring in problem children. You'll never know for sure, even after a 30 day trial period, but GM's will do their best to screen and filter. As for applications and processes, I guess the effort shown to get in by the applicant is something that most GM's see as important as well. I did. Anyone who ever joins a guild has to understand just how much goes into creating, maintaining, administrating and growing a guild. It's a thankless job for the most part, where someone puts in their (GM) free time to make sure others (members) have a fun place to spend their recreational time without worry every time they log in. There are plenty of guilds out there who do not have applications and you can just /whisper someone for an invite. But if someone wants to join a specific guild because they seem to have a lot going on, seem to be popular and really well run.. it wouldn't have become that type of guild without standards.
