Your character is rescued by a Black Mage, how does s/he respond?

Recommended Posts

A small little exercise for fun involving one of the few classes which have a dark negative side to them.

So your character is in some life threatening situation, things look grim, could it possibly be the end of their long journey? Suddenly a flash of glorious flame, whatever accosted your character is vaporized ash and aether. On some ridge nearby is a black mage in traditional garb, he seems to linger. What do you do?

Assumptions made:

1. Your character can tell without a doubt that what just saved you was black magic such as flare.

2. Your Character is aware of the negatives is associated with legends of Black Mage (harms the world around it, etc.)

"Well, take off that silly arse hat, I want to see if you're cute or not!"

Brave has associated with enough good people that use questionable methods to not pass judgement immediately.

Also, she's a relentless flirt.

"Thank you but I cannot be seen with an outsider- Wait, wait. A black mage? Teach me all the things!"

Her response would first be to be butthurt being saved by an outsider, then as soon she realises it is a black mage, she would question that mage until the end of days if given the chance, and probably harass said person to teach her.

Virella would do about anything to see the end to the Dravanian Horde, and she wouldn't mind dabbling into black mage stuff if she had the chance. I always seen the Ishgardians are people of opportunities, grasping a hold of anything to see the Dravanian Horde defeated, especially now they are getting more desperate, Virella included.

Aven would give a calm nod to the mage. As someone who has been descriminated against he lets peoples actions speak for them. He would likely remove his helm and call out to the mage.

"To whom do I owe the honor of thanking?"

Tasa dislikes magic, calling it the crutch of the weak. She barely tolerates thaurmaturgy and knows the danger associated with black magic. Tasa is also a character looking for a glorious death, which means if a black mage of all people stole that from her she would be pretty cross. Most likely it would end with them parting ways but attempting to break his legs and drag him to whoever deals with his kind would certain be a consideration.

"Hey, HEY! Wait right there! We've got a lot to talk about! I've got these theories, see..." L'yhta proclaims, reaching into a belt pouch to produce a wad of papers to wave in the air. "Let's have lunch! Or dinner! And rediscover lost magicks!"

As a Wizard of the Ivory Tower, L'yhta has an intense interest in other forms of magic, and so she'd definitely be more interested in learning about the spells employed and the technique behind them than thanking the fellow for the timely intervention.

Nebula looks round and the blackness of the mage is palpable, she looks back at the dead dragon that almost ate her but is now nothing more than a burnt out husk.

"Saved by the Drake, that was a luck escape" and before the black mage can get a second attempt at killing her she hitches up her robes and runs.

Verad congratulates the Black Mage on being present to aid and abet in his daring escape, and is pleased that the mage was so honored to be able to play a large part.

He then asks the Black Mage if he can get a ride back to Camp Dragonhead, because this rescue happened in Coerthas and, for reasons Verad refuses to explain, he has no pants and it's terribly cold. Also, would he be interested in a plot device?

After giving it more thought as I should of:

It would not make too much difference to Chiyo. After all, it matters not what the power is, but how you use it. That said however, she is indeed slightly prejudice towards magic in general, especially black magic. Not to maintain being embarrassed to be in the sort of situation in the first place. Chiyo would simply thank the black mage then be on her way as quick as she could, hoping that they wouldn't ask for any returning favors.

Kellach would blink - Isn't that magic long lost to time? Why does this spell look suspiciously like Shadowflare except with a whole lot more fire in it? Where did he learn this assuming he's just not the only black mage left? Is this something he should be aware of for his continued survival?

He'd also ask if the mage needs an escort to wherever he's going.

To create, one must destroy. Nothing exists within the world without consequence to another. It is what keeps the world flowing and it is inevitable for it is law. To put it simple: Change is unavoidable.

Mistalv recognizes this truth of the world and therefore is not affected by an otherwise perceived engine of destruction. She would simply express thanks and move on.

"Thanks for the help but bit of advice for the future, might want to work a bit on your subtlety. There's more than a few who don't like Black Mages and a good bit of those who would be more than willing to give you a free trip to the void for it." *tips the hat he never has on* "Messing with void magic is nasty business, or so I hear, no matter how many good intentions you start with, so keep yourself safe, eh?"

*walks off like he was never really in danger in the first place*

From what u know of my Au Ra's personality so far, she would probably just blink, wondering what just happrned. Then, once everything settles in and she realizes it was a black mage, she'd get extremely curious and bombard the person with a ton of questions. Trying to get all the information she could possibly get before she embarrassed and excuses herself for being a little nosy.

My first thought is of Tahz, who would not be bothered at all since he's married to a not!black mage. He'd just be like /thumbs up, /cheer, /goodbye. Ganale would probably be the most leery about it, but that's because he's seen (felt) what arcanism can do to people, and is in no hurry to get that kind of lesson regarding far more direct destructive magic. Yuuna, though wary of BLMs, wouldn't be concerned since she's more than aware that a bullet can reach that BLM's head before it can finish a cast aimed at her. Chao would try to compare notes, probably.

If they use anything other then Ice Magic.

"Oh...jeez...i-I'm sorry baout that it was embarrassing of me to get caught in that situation... Here let me pay you for the trouble." Zach throws a sachel of 5,000 gil towards the mage in question.

If they use Ice Magic.

"U-h...h-he-hello.. ..h-here........t-thanks ..for.that. bye!" zach sprints off immieadtly after hurling 5,000 gil at the mage.

Graeham isn't really familiar with the inner workings of aether manipulation. Being half-Garlean it's a pursuit he's never bothered with due to the sheer difficulty he'd face weaving even a simple spell. As such, he wouldn't really be judgemental and he'd thank his saviour with wide-eyed wonder and genuine gratitude.

Ramona was damn well sure she'd die to the behemoth that somehow blindsided her in its lair. She'd resign herself to that fact after it may or may not have slammed into her with a half strength manawall up.

And then it happened. The glorious smell of burnt behemoth and the aftertaste of excess aether. She'd walk over to her savior with a small smile on her lips.

"So you're like me then? Can you umm help relearn what I've forgotten? Another mentor would be nice."

Kurt saw his life flash before his eyes and stared death defiantly in the claw as the behemoth brought its heavy hand down on him.

Yet there was something odd and warped about aether around them. His lips twisted into a grin as he saw, suspended in the air above the  behemoth, the beginning of a very...

"Glorious explosion."

He turned and braced himself against the heat of that glorious explosion that left a charred behemoth steak in its wake. He'd stop his savior from leaving and offer him or her an experimental behemoth steak meal.

Nah's wish was that she wanted to say goodbye to dad and Nataru at least. But well the behemoth changed his mind when he decided to spontaneously combust into flames.

Even if he seems like the stuff villains are made of Nah'd thank him or her for saving her. She'd promise to be more careful etc etc basically Nah being Nah. People stigmatize BLMs but this one just gave her opportunity to be with Nataru, her dad, Sae, Zeean, all her friends again.
