Should I REALLY switch to Balmung for RP?

The Balmung RP community is huge! If you look here on the RPC, almost every member has at least one RP character on Balmung, almost every event, every FC, and every LS advertised here is on Balmung. And outside of that, there are plenty of role-players on Balmung who don't register here, and plenty of events and groups that aren't even advertised here. I'd say it's well worth the money, if you love to role-play.

Something really neat about Balmung is I know people who have transferred over for ONLY PvE and they come and look at the world and are just taken aback by how much RP there is.

 

I've not met a PvER who's had an issue with the RP. In fact, most I've talked to said they prefer it because it makes the world feel so 'alive' and a lot of them end up trying it themselves. :)

I have to agree with everyone else.  Balmung is the place to be if RP is your primary thing.  That said, I have found it a little challenging to enjoy the lower level dungeon content because very few players at those level are truly new.  Most are leveling an alt and have perhaps done those dungeons several times before.  Your PUG mates may not want to wait for you to watch the elaborate and time consuming cut scenes - some of which contain important plot points for your character.

 

This has been partly resolved since joining an FC.  Fellow FC members that choose to run a new dungeon with me are far more likely to allow me to set the pace, run the map, and watch the cutscenes.  They are also far more likely to tolerate me screwing up.  In return, I pass on the drops and then I run the dungeon later on my own with a PUG to try to get the drops (if there's anything I want).

 

The FC to which I belong, the Harbingers of Dawn, are almost always doing something, has someone willing to RP, and offers a number of events that invite natural and immersive RP.  As they are well established, it can be a bit daunting to try to weave yourself into the primary plot of the FC, but the benefits are worth the awkwardness, imo.

Hello there Mira! o/ I'm on Behemoth as well and I do some RP here and there. Balmung is the place to be for RP but sadly I think the only way to get there is by transferring you character although if you want to see if you enjoy RP'in before transferring to Balmung feel free to message me and I can even invite you to a RP Linkshell too if your interested. :)

 

Sadly I'm only available in-game from 8PM to 12AM EST.

 

That is when I play most evenings during the week as well :) Would love to RP with you tonight in Behemoth! My main character in Behemoth right now is Mira Kyhto. Would love to join the linkshell as well!

Balmung is definitely the place to go if you want to do considerable amounts of RP.

 

Most people are friendly if you just talk to them and setting up RP using this site makes it that much easier to find a group of people to do it with you.

 

You will run into an A-Hole every now and then on the server, but if you've ever pugged a dungeon I am sure you are used to it.  

 

I have been back and forth primarily between Balmung and Sargatanas and can tell you from experience the RP community on Balmung is very friendly and open to new people.

I have come to the conclusion that YES I will transfer over to Balmung. However, I am still new and feel I should at least complete enough of the game with my main first so that when I go over I CAN focus on RP and the higher level stuff everyone there will be doing.

Wait a moment! If you are home/have access to FFXIV right now, you MIGHT be able to make new characters on Balmung...

 

Er, assuming you don't want to just transfer your main over...

 

Either way, it's an option. The servers just borked, but last time they did this, when it came up, you could make new characters on the server briefly.

I'm not sure if anyone mentioned it yet, but, one thing that's often overlooked is that the server transfer cost includes up to 8 characters as long as your account type is one where you're paying for multiple character slots (they have a monthly fee that allows up to 8 per server, or, a monthly fee that only allows 1 per server, so if you're the former, then you're good to go). All characters to be transferred must come from the same origin server and must have existed for at least 3 real-world days and have nothing in their mail. 

 

So if you like having an alt or two, it's worth it to go ahead and create them and transfer them as a batch even if you don't think you're ready to actually play them at all yet. That way they're already on Balmung and ready for you to use whenever you do feel like you want to get started on them.

Hey all,

 

So I have been playing in Behemoth so far, as I was told that one and a couple (although SIren was to spammy) had some RP communities. Found a couple great RP'ers on my own, but took a long time to just find them. I am having trouble finding RP communities on other servers, although they do exist, have not found real active ones.

 

People keep telling me that Balmung is a unofficial RP server I should switch to, but I am worried my $20 might not be worth it...

 

So those of you on Balmung right now, how large IS the RP community there? Like, for $20 I am hoping for being able to for example, go into the quicksand and be able to just spot a group RPing I can jump in with basically, or being able to assume if I asked someone around if they would like to they would be ready to jump in and RP at it's finest. 

 

Really debating this, so please be as honest as you can! Thanks!! :)

 

 

The answer is yes. Or Gilgamesh. You won't find near the variety, volume, or quality of RP anywhere else.

 

EDIT: CONGRATS ON GETTING IN! You made the right choice.

You can do two things at this point:

 

1) wait until a big maintenance or content patch which the servers normally open up for that at like 1:00am pst

 

2) make a character on another server, get to level 10, then pay $18.00 to transfer servers to Balmung. This is what I had to do, even though they don't allow NEW characters to be made on the server you can still transfer characters for money...all about the money.

Small correction to #2. You do not necessarily need to get to level 10. You just need to be able to speak to other (real / non-NPCs) characters and the character must be at least 3 days old. It can essentially just be a level 1 character.

 

You just waste less time by actually playing the character a little bit. Just don't join a free company.
