If you could pick any voice for your character for in-game/anime/whatever,

who/what would you pick?

---

- (optional) Include a video/sound clip of some sort so we can all hear it, but you can just put a name down if you want!

- (optional) Include an image of your character!

- (optional) Include character name/race!

- Also: it can be in any language. After all, it's the tone/sound of voice, not so much what they say in the clips.

Sorry if this has been done before; I did skim through the forum pages under "Fun Prompts", but didn't see anything. Mind you, it was a skim.

Anyways, Let's bring some life to your characters! Or, let this be a place to correct those who dare to hear your character's voice in their minds when you rp as Gilbert Gottfried!

(Or heck uh, maybe prove them right if you so desire to sound like Gilbert Gottfried,if that's your cup of tea... Actually, please tell me someone has a character that sounds like Gilbert Gottfried and let's be friends!

Edit: I did word this wrong, so, as someone mentioned, there could be numerous people choosing one actor who happens to have a range of voices!

So, right of the bat, even in character creation, I chose a really low voice for Ruen. I wanted it to be something that might not be totally expected given his carefree personality, but would still fit him. I think Mr. McGowen's normal speaking voice is what I picture pretty close! It's low and relaxed and has the right amount of grate to it!

Sorry for the mumbly murmurs in the bg, but this was one of the few vids that only had him speaking in it alone.

I see Evangeline as sort of a breathy voice, a bit stumbling with pauses.

Olivia Coleman is a good example.

On a side note...  I've been listening to more audiobooks lately, which has given me an appreciation for the range of human speech. A good presenter can make the 20+ characters in a book all sound distinct, so sometimes I feel like voice actor/actress isn't specific enough and instead you have to look at the character they're playing.

Though some voice actors tend to just do a single voice, Garrus from Mass Effect's voice actor always sounds like Garrus for example:

I'm always terribly bad about these sorts of things. I don't consume nearly enough visual media for stuff like "what actor would play your character" or even just "what would they sound like." So all I have usually is what little I have seen and heard, and what I have in my head the character is like.

With Chachan, I imagine him sounding relatively childish - at least on the surface - but having a bit of drive and easily be able to sort of slide into a worrying sort if needed. Oddly enough, with what little I have to work with, I for some reason went to Bilbo Baggins from the original Hobbit cartoon movie:

Albeit he sounds a bit older than how I imagine Chachan. There's another pretty common character I kind of think of - mostly physique-wise - but could also maybe work as Chachan's voice? Definitely covers the generally good kid who steps up when the going gets tough angle too:

... However, I'm always open for better suggestions.

His older brother Gogon... I haven't really thought much about. I imagine him being pretty flat-spoken, mostly devoid of emotion. Dry, raspy laugh, generally condescending attitude. He's a logical sort, so with that mindset alone there's two folks that immediately jump to mind:

I'm leaning more towards Nimoy of the two, really, since he can add that touch of disapproval or snark that is very Gogon. Though, there's another bit of inspiration to how I think he sounds, and a quick check has Kiefer Sutherland being the voice of the guy, so he might be another option:

Yes yes, I know Raistlin's a bit... edgy. But he was always written and described as speaking quietly but with a power that drove you to shut up and listen. I wouldn't mind Gogon having that sort of voice, either. Implied power without outwardly exuding it.

As for Judge? He's actually the easiest. WHILE HE'S ALWAYS TALKING LIKE THIS in game, I've always written it in posts and the like MORE LIKE THIS. WITH THAT IN MIND, IT'S PRETTY OBVIOUS WHO I'M MAKING HIM SOUND LIKE.

Oh, yes, I can't ignore Magma Dancer!

I had thought originally that she'd be totally Mae West, but recently, I've realized otherwise.

Magma singing is Amy Winehouse, all the way:

Spoiler for maybe NSFW:

Magma in full "character," when she's tending to the crew at the Phoenix Cantina, has been channeling Elvira all this time:

Spoiler for yeah, It's Elvira.

Well, in chat we've started talking more on this and two more possible voices for Gogon were brought up. One of which was someone Howl mentioned to me before and I blanked on for a bit until he brought it up again. And that is the late, great Alan Rickman.

The other is Jeremy Irons, who some might know better as...

Quite the spread of voices, really. Gohan for Chachan, Snape for Gogon, and Discworld's Death for Judge.

I've struggled for this for months to be honest. Finding something that matches Odette perfectly is just... near impossible. Her voice is somewhat husky, lower in tone but not deep. She has something of a drawl, a rough earthiness, but still manages to be rather velvet smooth in her tone - it's a hard thing to convey.Irish accents tend to be too strong, anything overly drawn out or husky tends to be too American... so alas, I am stumped.

Miranda from Mass Effect has the right pitch and expression for business and serious conversation, but not quite the musical lit that matches up with Odette's impish flirting. MGS3's Eva (whom was also inspiration for Odette's character), lacks the rawness of a roguish bawdiness.

I'm thinking, perhaps Evie from Assassin's Creed Syndicate might be a good fit... (though I'm not entirely convinced as of yet).

I can't help but feel like this thread happened before somewhere... but I can't be assed to look, either, so

Shopu would sound like Kristen Schaal but it'd be a little underplayed because she has a slightly more formal way of speaking than most of Schaal's characters

Awyrbyrt would sound like Kronk from The Emperor's New Groove (Patrick Warburton). He can speak marmot.
