V'aleera Posted January 27, 2017 Share #1 Posted January 27, 2017 I'm just gonna leave this here. http://www.novacrystallis.com/2017/01/final-fantasy-xiv-getting-live-action-series-based-true-story/ http://www.cinematoday.jp/gallery/E0010787/02.JPG.html Square Enix is putting together a live action drama series based on a real story that happened in Final Fantasy XIV. Titled “Final Fantasy XIV Daddy of Light”, the drama will begin broadcast on MBS/TBS in Japan this April. Japanese actors Yudai Chiba and Ren Oosugi will be playing the part of the main characters. LiadansWhisper Posted January 27, 2017 Share #2 Posted January 27, 2017 The story makes it sound much better. It actually sounds kinda sweet... Link to comment
Gegenji Posted January 27, 2017 Share #3 Posted January 27, 2017 ... Now I feel kinda bad assuming this was going to be some sort of jokey-silly thread. Mostly just because of the premise name: "Daddy of Light." Still, as Liadan said, the premise is actually kinda touching. Link to comment
Shoshopu Posted January 27, 2017 Share #4 Posted January 27, 2017 This actually sounds really interesting! I'm kinda confused why the article refers to it both as "Daddy of Light" and "Father of Light". There's also this? http://www.cinematoday.jp/gallery/E0010787/06.jpg.html I hope "Father of Light" is the one they go with, because... yeah. Link to comment
ExAtomos Posted January 27, 2017 Share #5 Posted January 27, 2017 I thought this would be a late reference to the memes going around for the Stormblood teaser trailer. >..> The show seems a little weird to me cause I'm used to tv shows never referencing a specific product like this (it would be "father and son bond over fictional mmo game"). Is being obvious about a product in a tv show normal in Japan? Or is this just a reallllly long ad for XIV? Link to comment

Berrod Armstrong Posted January 27, 2017 Share #10 Posted January 27, 2017 Argh right in the daddy issues! I hope it's good, I love stories like this. Link to comment
Kage Posted January 27, 2017 Share #11 Posted January 27, 2017 It is basically "the story of a father and son who have issues communicating. The son, who plays FFXIV and wants to get in on some friend referral bonuses, gets his 60-year-old father to join the game after receiving a PS4 from his wife as a birthday present. The son helps him create a character and eventually joins him on his adventure through the game, helping him out without revealing his true identity." according to the blog. "I wonder if my dad could beat Titan (Hard) and stuff... I'm kinda excited..." ; ; Link to comment
Seriphyn Posted January 27, 2017 Share #12 Posted January 27, 2017 Neat! Looking forward to it. Would rather it be called 'Father of Light', though. As others have pointed out, daddy is a bit whimsical. Link to comment
Jana Posted January 27, 2017 Share #13 Posted January 27, 2017 I thought this was a thread that had escaped the Void for a moment. I don't have much to say about this kind of show except that I hope it doesn't spend too much time going into the in-game systems ("son teaches his dad how to use the duty finder" is probably not the best half hour of TV) or it really will just turn into a long commercial. Dravus Posted January 27, 2017 Share #14 Posted January 27, 2017 I'm glad I'm not the only one who read the title and assumed that this thread was going to be detailing something very different. I do think it's a pretty neat concept - certain video-games are great for bonding over, MMO's especially. Link to comment
Kage Posted January 27, 2017 Share #15 Posted January 27, 2017 I wish I knew japanese so that I could read the blog. The summary suggests that the son never told his father that he was actively helping him out. Create a character and account and wala. Then kept showing his dad around and helping him on the same server...?? Link to comment
Jana Posted January 27, 2017 Share #16 Posted January 27, 2017 That's what the translation says, yeah. The PSO2 anime kinda did the same thing. (That show was a trainwreck ad/intro for the current trainwreck plot though.) Link to comment
Kage Posted January 31, 2017 Share #17 Posted January 31, 2017 I believe this is the anniversary stream... I am guessing they are keeping it Daddy of Light. WHY CAN'T YOU JUST USE THE BLOG'S TRANSLATED TITLE OMFG Link to comment
Kage Posted February 23, 2017 Share #18 Posted February 23, 2017 The TV drama show will have a total of 7 episodes and they will be facing Twintania on the 7th episode. The show will have a "drama part" that takes place in real life and a "game part" that shows the actual game and game play. Is there anyway for his 60 year old father to beat twintania after seeing him do the wierdest things when he starts playing and as the show progresses? The story will make you laugh, make you cheer for the daddy of light, make you /facepalm and make "you" feel like a father watching over your son at the same time. Even though the show is 80% comedy, it also covers topics that players have in mind, such as "Does FFXIV, with its end raids and statics, really have so much drama and clashes that people outside of the game talk about?" or "is kicking a new player who does 20dps really all we can do? what is actually happening on the other side of the screen and why do new players act in that way?" After watching the whole story, you'll probably understand a portion of the pleasure of helping and leading someone and how precious new players really are. Lyrics for the opening theme in english: So, even if we aren't smiling now. So, even if we can't trust each other now. It's fine..It's fine the way it is now. because these feelings aren't lying to us. True heart. Opening theme: "The other end of the globe" Another short preview: Link to comment
