Rich people where we at

Recommended Posts

Well... I've given a rather rich backstory for Garrett in that his family owns an estate somewhere in Ul'dah. And given that his father perished in Carteneau due to The Calamity...

At any rate, I don't really RP this part of Garrett very much. He, in fact, doesn't like being rich all that much. He's almost never home, and nine times out of ten stays in The Hourglass when he's in Ul'dah.

Azureus' family back in Garlemald is very VERY rich and noble. Ofcourse, Az never speaks of garlemald.. and when people find out IC'ly his family is very well of, they all see him as a snobby rich sitting on a mountain of gil kid, when he has a sad backstory to do with his family. YOU PEOPLE DON'T KNOW HIS PAIN! :3

but yeah... Az's family is wealthy

Just going to throw this out there, but I think it wouldn't be a bad idea if every now and then Upper Class parties were thrown. I especially expect to see something of the sort in Ul'dah, and maybe Ishgard when it will be open to us.

I think it would be very easy to do. Though it may require a linkshell, or some OOC organization of sort, because if nobles are to attend, we should at the very least know them beforehand. Big names are expected to be known among the people, especially among members of Upper Classes, who tend to be somewhat cliquey.

For example, I have never roleplayed with Otto Vann as my noble lady Chiara Foschiani, but ICly I think it would be a must for her to already know him, if only just by fame. At the same time, I'd expect her name to be known, as she is the wife of a very prestigious goldsmith in Ul'dah (and a goldsmith herself, though of a different popularity as her husband's, as she excels in clockwork and minions-type of goldsmithing rather than jewels or bonecrafting).

So yes, I think events to have rich people gather and meet would be great and... it would also offer some fun for wanna-be RP criminals (a bunch of riches all clustered together, what better chance to make the robbery of the century?) and, obviously, bodyguards and law enforcement.

Barb is apparently absurdly loaded in old money, and her sole motivation for doing things is to 'get out of the house.' She's seen around, mostly in the evenings when most people go to sleep and occasionally offering dangerous jobs to people with a death wish. She wears super flamboyant clothing, (I think otto and I were having a fashion off) and tosses gil around without much of a care. HOWEVER, she's not showboaty over it because she's a firm believer in Nobless Oblidge and treats most people with whatever respect they garner off their own merits. She's sometimes escorted by guards as well during the day! =o

OOCly, I have a Mansion (Personal) I've almost completely decorated. It's completely used for RP purposes... although she typically won't invite just anyone over. I can mostly make or buy all the nice things... but mostly I'm not big on flaunting it and just enjoy helping out where I can.

ICly, she enjoys meeting people, and more so people that share her interests and have their own power to throw around. I can see her hosting a party and such if only to get people interested in her wild projects. (She totally has a vault too)

I'd like to note. That while SHE IS wealthy. It's not a defining feature of the character, and it's typically never even brought up, as she doesn't think much of it herself.

Cassandra is quite wealthy. She usually doesn't act like it, nor does she go around telling everyone, but she doesn't try to hide it either. I usually RP her as paying for drinks and other things by simply reaching into a pocket and dropping a handful of coins on the counter, with no concern for the actual amount she's paying.

There are other things that hint at her wealth, but I haven't gotten into it IC yet. She's kind of evasive.

Natassia is popular Noble, from the well known House of Haillenarte in Ishgard. House of Haillenarte is really well off and respected in Ishgard, they hold many Adviser positions. She just finished her studies, and is hoping in time to get an Advisers position working for the Archbishop in Ishgard. She receives a letter from The Holy See that she is to be Handler of a fellowship of Ishgardian's, to go to the city-states and investigate if the help they ask for is truly needed.

Xavarian is pretty well-off from a pretty well-off family, but part of me wonders if there might be a disparaging difference between the economics of the 'surface world' (aka all of Eorzea as we know it) and 'below' where the Duskwights of caves make their homes.  Considering the vast majority of the latter seem to be portrayed as 'fighting for survival', it might take a lot less to be considered 'well-off'.  But maybe not too!  We don't know quite how their system works.

But basically, Xavarian is considered 'rich' in that perspective; whatever the cave-dwelling duskwights consider to be wealthy, if they have any unified sort of trade.  I imagine he's at least 'well-off' in comparison to above-ground-Eorzeans too, but unless the scale is tipped the opposite way I think it is, I doubt he's at the level of effortlessly able to buy several mansions or anything.  He still certainly will work for pay when he feels he 'needs' to.

Though, unfortunately, one of the first people he got along with smacked him in the chest, and told him not to tell anyone he's well off, or he'll get robbed, so he's been paying special attention to keep it a loosely guarded secret.  (Not that it keeps him from dressing well, or having fancy things; gotta tempt fate a little bit.)

Nako is, as you may remember from his appearance at the fight club. I's mainly all danger pay from his previous work, investment, or a stippend for teaching the children of rich kids how to cast spells.

However, the reason he chooses not to flaunt it is due to his work. If he was a well known sociallite then he couldn't do it xD.

That being said, come 3.0 he is starting a new venture and will be more public about it.

(Cant match it oocly though, teach me your ways!!!)

Izzy is Byrglaent's niece (vineyard master in Wineport), and her mother is a Hellsguard with family on the Syndicate in Ul'dah.

Having grown up around the laid back citizenry that characterizes a lot of rural/tropical Lominsa, she noticed her uncle and mother's classist attitudes seemed unusual. As she got older she started to rebel against them; especially since their expectations of her were in conflict with her desire to play with the common kids, talk to adventurers, and spend time with the local Goblins.

Even though Izzy isn't purposefully classist, she doesn't think about money much. She's never had to go without it, so she takes it for granted. Even after she has a falling out with her family (which only the family knows about, for image sake), all she has to do is introduce herself wherever she is and she can generally get whatever she needs or wants. She's spoiled but doesn't know it.

Since the falling out she really thinks she's been slumming it, travelling in a cushy caravan instead of a private airship cabin, or in the nicest suite the Quicksand has to offer instead of one of her family's vacation homes.

Andre came from a noble and wealthy family but since leaving Ul'dah he has voluntarily severed a great deal of his financial benefits as a result so he's not exactly rich now that he's apart from his father.

Alex does well for himself but he's not very materialistic so he tends to continue saving up a respectable amount of money for nothing in particular. You wouldn't say he is rich, but well capable even should a rainy day come along.

Graeham's fairly wealthy though he disguises that since he isn't in a position where it's wise for him to draw attention to himself. I do plan to have him spend a lot of his free time at Costa del Sol and the Gold Saucer however so that may be a potential networking route for some people to get on board with.
