Post here if you want to be a brat

2 weeks ago my vacation time for the expansion was cancelled the day before early access by my boss, so he could have the weekend off. Last week...85 hours scheduled and worked. This week, my 3-day weekend for the holiday has been bumped down to two (possibly one since my boss is taking vacation again)

1 day off in the last 19. 12+ hour shifts each day. So frustrating :( Somebody get the shovel, I'll need buried by week's end.

I think you can report him for things like that. Especially for 85 scheduled and worked hours. There's certain degrees where people can get in a lot of trouble for putting people through certain impossible work conditions.

A bit of a necro, but I think I have good reason for reviving it for this particular rant.

I. Hate. The company I'm contracted out to right now. Why?

I was brought to a project as only a tester - test the application, that's it. Don't get the code, don't do any of that - I have to be separate from it to properly test it. That's fine, that's cool. I bug test it, give it to the guy who's supposed to be working on it and fixing it.

He ends up leaving and it gets put in the hands of another guy. I test what changes were made before the guy left and it's mostly the same stuff - so I hand off the barely modified bug list to him to start fixing up stuff. The last time I modified the first bug list was in July and it mentioned the sounds not working and an inability to move through the various lectures. Keep this in mind. All the while, he keeps pushing on trying to get me to download the source code and make the fixes for him - which is not what I'm supposed to be doing.

Fast forward a bit. He's made some changes, but several bugs are still around on the latest version of the bug list. Somehow, rather than him or the Project Manager heading the meetings with the clients... it's me. They have the tester as the "go-to" guy for explaining things and going and talking to the client. Whatever, fine. We have a meeting... about a week, week and a half ago and the two bugs I mentioned back in July become a point of contention - and the guy who was supposed to fix it had felt it hadn't been a needed fix.

Now, we have a meeting on Monday with the clients. Ask the guy who was supposed to be fixing the code if he fixed the TWO BUGS that were mentioned in the meeting. They haven't, apparently, and furthermore he says that he can't work on it - for reasons he doesn't bother to mention - and now the PM has told me to download the code and we'd "talk about it."

How I'm reading this? The guy who's been trying to pass the buck ever since it got put in his lap is about to successfully do so. With two glaring issues still unresolved that I noted back in July (possibly earlier, last modified after all). Leaving me with two days or less to get the code, learn the code, and figure out how to fix the problem.

In a job where my contracting company is taking half to a third of my salary for their services, provides no overtime pay, and requires me to use my scant few leave days on government holidays.

I am goddamn livid right now.

Nameless fruit-themed computer company.

Fruit: We're coming out with this new [flurble!] stuff, we want you to be [verbable!]. Here's what you need to do. By the way, can you do it by next week?

Us: Um... Yeah? This looks okay.

(6 days later)

Fruit: That looks great! Can you make this one change? It's very minor...

Us: Um... You want us to change the underlying architecture of what we do?

Fruit: Well, you don't need to have it, strictly speaking, until next week...

(6 days later)

Fruit: Oh! We forgot to tell you, you need to call this API.

Us: We don't see this API in your library.

Fruit: Riiiiight. You'll need this file, which we've only just remembered to send you. Here it is.

Us: It's not working.

Fruit: Yeah, because we haven't turned on the web service that makes it work.

Us: How will we test it?

Fruit: Don't worry, we'll turn it on about 3-4 days before the new OS goes live.

Us: So you want us to test this new stuff, build an app, get it to you, get it reviewed, and shipped, all within this 3-4 day window that you turn this on?

Fruit: Yeah!

Us: ...

I'm torn between keeping all my loved ones close and shoving each and every human being in my life away because I'm just so tired of feeling so vulnerable and weak and therapy has just been emotionally exhausting for a month now, touching on some srs shit that's been buried down for so long. And today was absolutely no exception, with yet another break, and just...

I should not be so sick of life at the ripe age of 21. But I am and I'm frustrated and I wish I had more people to talk to, people that I can talk to and trust and get close to, and I just want to feel safe and welcome and warm and free for once in my life, dammit.

*flips everything*

WELCOME TO 'MERKA WE SUE ALL THEM LIBERAL COMMIE GAYS YEEHAWW

Can we just nuke Nebraska or something? It's like Texas without all the sand.

EDIT: Isn't the Midwest supposed to be slightly smarter and more open-minded than my fellow Southern neighbors? Kinda sad, really.

So like. I'm from Nebraska. I'm living in Nebraska.

My rant of the day is about people who generalize/stereotype others...

Concur. Also in Nebraska.

If anything, Nebraska should be nuked because of Husker fans, not the fringe wackos.

I kid, I kid... maybe...

Enlisted soon to be Air Force, very specifically requesting "Not Nebraska" 10 times on dreamsheet. Currently in Northern Colorado, it like Nebraska but not awful. Big difference.

They're still telling folks dream sheets still matter? Hahahaha. Don't be a in a job having anything to do with C-135s or Nebraska is one of about three places you can go.

Arrested FOR BRINGING A FUCKING HOME-MADE DIGITAL CLOCK TO SCHOOL BECAUSE IT'S A 'BOMB'

I want to talk about a few things here for some things that riled me up.

A. The english teacher who took the clock after it beeped in class? She said it looked like a bomb and then decided -to fucking keep what she said looked like a bomb-.

B. "They led Ahmed into a room where four other police officers waited. He said an officer he’d never seen before leaned back in his chair and remarked: “Yup. That’s who I thought it was.”"

-Oh fucking hell no-

C. "“They thought, ‘How could someone like this build something like this unless it’s a threat?’” Ahmed said."

I. What. Ingenuity? Curiosity? Intellectual stimulation? HOBBY? There are so many fucking reasons to build an electronic, like a CLOCK, without it being a threat.

D. "He’s vowed never to take an invention to school again." FUCK YOU FUCK YOU FUCK YOU

Holy fuck, fuck you dumbshits. The kid built a fucking digital clock with some stuff laying around at home in 20-fucking-minutes.

E. "It looks like a movie bomb."

I- I-  (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻)

You must not have worn black, had long hair, or listened to heavy metal in high school.

My bag was searched regularly, and not only did I not break the law, I was a very good and attentive student.  I was never violent.  But I think I was checked once every few months, and the police generally hovered around our area in high school.  When someone called in a bomb threat one year, the police subpoenaed my phone records and checked my cell phone to make sure I hadn't called it in.  All based entirely on my appearance and the music I listened to.

I don't recall a lot of indignation on our behalf after Columbine, though.  It's just how it is in the US.

Actually, I lived a sheltered life as my parents sent me to Catholic schools k-12. Tomboy, didn't really have the option to wear all black but I did have long hair until 9th when I lopped it off for more shorter hair cuts!

I regularly took apart hand held radios/walkman/cassette players.

Edit: Should also mention that in cases right after Columbine and others, the only way for news to really get public was on television and the radio. You couldn't just have someone post up notice on the internet and say "These shit-for-brains did this"

I live in a homophobic, bigoted town full of "Good Christians" (quotations because I know actual, good Christians that aren't these assholes) that believe every second of the edited PP videos and are bitching and whining about the ACA and gay marriage and it infuriates me that these people exist.

These are the same people in favour of the government shutdowns we keep seeing in the US. o_o

Necroing this thread to rant about the asshole in my firm who keeps fucking up his laptop then blaming us. Today he actually had the nerve to say to me, "Do we have anyone smarter that can fix this permanently?"

Here's an idea fuckwad, why don't we get someone smarter to do your job for us, who won't also completely brick their laptop on a semi-monthly basis because you think you know so much technical bullshit about your laptop when in reality I'm amazed you can even velcro your fucking Sketchers in the morning, you impossible moron.

Here in DC, the city is divided into four quarters. Like the districts in the Hunger Games, each quarter is known for a specific demographic. At the very center is the Capital Building.

Start at Southwest. Southwest is industrial. Warehouses, blue-collar jobs, but then you cross the water to Alexandria and have million dollar condos. People don't really live in Southwest (I'm sure there are houses, but nobody thinks about it as a residential area) and any that do are forgotten. If you were to say "I live in Southwest", people just get confused and ask if you mean Alexandria. Southwest is purgatory.

Southeast. Southeast is where you don't want to go if you are A) Not black B)Financially well-off C)Without an edge. Southeast is the crime and punishment quarter. This is the area that most closely matches Baltimore, and has a long, long, long history of Violence. People who live in Southeast are considered the poorest of the poor, and the undesirables.

Northeast is Podunk. There is nothing to do in Northeast except go elsewhere. You are away from the tall buildings and night life, but you live on the edge. the edge of safety. The edge of prosperity. People don't want to go to your house because it just isnt close enough to the things they want to do and they might have to walk through a bad neighborhood to get there.

And then you have Northwest; the shining beacon of money and everything you could ever want. The streets are clean and safe. There are Starbucks and Au Bon Pain everywhere. The buildings are shiny and attractive and rent is about $2100 minimum for 600 sq.ft. Northwest is mostly white. Mostly government salaries. Mostly fitness/yoga/crossfit enthusiasts who shop at Whole Foods and pay a lot of money for the convenience of spending more money.

penn_quarter_otavio.jpg

There is obviously one option. If you want to feel like your shit is together, and you want others to see your shit might be together, you have to open the floodgates of your bank account in DC. While everyone in NW looks well-off, in truth they all work their asses off to keep that appearance going. Some even live paycheck to paycheck. The economy here is so disgustingly bad and we all pretend it isn't, and shrug at the $20 lunch we just had even though we are crying inside. Northwest is beautiful and ideal, and you are surrounded by beautiful, happy people. And it's real happiness. But underneath, most people are living beyond their means just to be a part of relevant society.

Here's a nifty little quiz for everyone to use if someone ever says "check your privilege". Now you CAN!

I scored a 34/100 <3

I'm a Latin American girl and I scored 73/100...

B-but.. This is impossible. I-I'm a woman... AND Latin American.

I'm oppressed! I'm a victim!
