  1. As a player of a double-identity character, I feel that the best solution is simply to rely on fellow RPer's willingness to participate in your story. If they call you by the "wrong name" give a simple OOC reminder ("gasp! you're not supposed to know it's her! :O") or something. If everyone plays their part (yours is to give them good IC reasons to not figure it out and theirs is to acknolwedge this), there shouldn't be any issue.
  2. I've been told Agata Blysstahlwyn os too much of a mouthful even though it's fairtly easy to pronounce (I mean it's just blis-tal-win, really) so I'm pretty sure yours will make people run away screaming. Could use some simplification, maybe. ^^;
  3. All I can say is i7 quad rocks ^^ Mine is like 2 years old and it runs like a charm. I don't really know much about anything else.
  4. The only thing about classes is you have to reach level 10 in your first one before you can grab others. If you're already 20, you'Re good to go. ^^ As far as story goes, we're in the same spot! I did more RP and guildleves than story stuff for the few months I played... In any case, it seems like 2.0 has its own story and being a 5-years-later sequel, it's more of a stand-alone with references to 1.0. Would have been a bad move to do things otherwise considering all the new players. Now for us "Legacy" players who didn't finish the 1.0 story... I dunno, we might feel like we missed things.. but the important part I think can be looked up pretty easily (Garlean invasion, final battle...) It's not gonna be like watching [insert cartoon serie here] [insert episode title here] part 2 without watching [insert episode title here] part 1, for sure.
  5. Enough with that server voting stuff, already. >.< If there's another split, I swear I'm gonna go crazy.
  6. As mentionned elsewhere, half-breeds are too often a way to say "hi I'm special" and generally frowned upon if it's mentionned often. Someone who comes up and starts RPing by OOCly describing their half-breed-ness or mentioning it ICly will likely set off a dozen of alarms in other RPErs. The impossibility to portray it in-game has been mentionned... As far a half-duskwight specifically, I believe duskwight are possibly the most insular species so a half-duskwight is possibly more rare than any other half-breed. All in all, it's your choice in the end, but it's risky. Anyways, if you want to play with racial profiling, playing a duskwight might be enough! There's a thread about Duskwight somewhere around here...
  7. Now THIS I can agree with. Being consistent is pretty important to me and characters who aren't are characters I quickly become wary of.
  8. Luckily for you, there is gonna be a merchant LS on Gilgamesh (which seems to be your server of choice?) As far as linking "everyone" though, I think most of that can happen during play? Sure, it can be fun to establish some relationships in advance but I think developping them during play is pretty fun too.
  9. Have to keep in mind some people enjoy roleplaying the villain because it allows for great roleplay and stories. Aynone who thinks people RP villains primarily because they find evil endearing might have a few screws loose... I doubt evil is endearing to anyone, but without villains there can be no heroes and the villains built into the game won't RP with us players. There is something beyond RPing for one's own enjoyment and that is building stories with others. Playing the villain in that context can be pretty rewarding. As a Game Master (or Dungeon Master or Storyteller, depending on the game) I regularly play villains and there's nothing quite like the satisfaction I feel when my players love to hate a NPC villain of my creation. When they pat each other on the back and celebrate their victory over their vile archenemy. When they talk about it months later. When I know I,ve done my job RPing the bad guy. People not getting it indeed.
  10. While that is true, pen&paper RPers have been doing this for decades. In a mmorpg, we use 3rd-person all the time but in D&D and other such games, most speak in 1st person when describing their characters or their actions. "I draw my sword and charge the goblin!" or "My father was a simple farmer but I wished for adventures and treasure hunting..." It's just a different way to say things.
  11. Defintiely interested, possibly just the Linkshell at first (as a "contact" or "prospective member" who got separated by the time jump... my character stayed behind!). We'd have to discuss possibilities.
  12. I think half-breeds being seen as a Thing has been around since the very first Dragonlance novels... "Hi, I'm Tanis Half-Elven, and I hide my elf ears under my hair and grow a beard because elves and humans don't like each other and both shun me and I would actually be a cool main character if I was just human but that aspect of me that somehow always get mentioned even though I'm supposed to be hiding it puts me right into the Gary Stu department." So, blame Tanis! Another problem is it's hard to make it show. I guess one could use a Highlander to be a Midlander/Roe crossbreed but other than that, I have no idea... and another thing people frown upon is when someone plays a race that isn't in the options. Sure, the options are limited, but RPing within the limits of the game and being special through RP is great fun!
  13. 10/10! Very Elezen-sounding! How does it mean Nightshade though? I know Noir is black in French... (Noire for the female version)... amusingly similar to my own Elezen's name. Now I have a bunch of alts, but the name I want evaluated is my main Miqo'te girl: Azyria Ziada. Back in 1.0, all I knew was Miqo'te names were short and often had Z's in them, among other letters. o_O Bonus names if you feel like it: - Jeanette Lenoire (Elezen, actual French name, instead of just French-sounding ) - Agata Blysstahlwyn (Roe Sea Wolf, meaning Amber daughter of Steel Blossom, I looked it up) - Helene Duval (also French, but it's for a Midlander Hyur)
  14. Coeurl has more than Gilgamesh? And Behemoth is the 4th lowest in RP? o_O Oh well... surveys are surveys. I'm kind of amused by Balmung being so evenly distributed, though.
  15. I got myself Recettear and it's fun and cute. Still fooling around Shadowrun Returns Still playing some SWTOR, cause I've been pretty slow with it and decided I wanted to see ALL the stories now. Going out seeing friends and stuff.
  16. All in all, I guess the poll question is kinda unrelated to the issue. ^^; 2.0 is a continuation of 1.0... but it has nothing to do with the catboys (male miqo) and the big girls (female roe and highlander). EDIT: added a couple T's that somehow slipped out of the post. O_O
  17. It's not a matter of opinion, it's an official fact that ARR isn't a reboot and is the 5 year later sequel of 1.0. However, this doesn't really have anything to do with the presence or absence of male miqo'te. I think the only reason we didn't have them in 1.0 is... they never made them. They did exist, though! The lore reason feels like it was just patched on to excuse their absence. Original dev team was a bit lame... which is why they got replaced I guess. o_O
  18. Okay, I guess the app criterias might be a little misleading then. ^^; I'll look you up!
  19. Welp, Shadowrun Returns has finally returned and I already spent hours on it! ^^ I guess once I'm done I might try playing with the campaign editor. o_O
  20. Is the whole endgame thing mandatory? At first glance, it would seem to be perfect for my legacy vigilante main, but I was never much of an endgame gamer.
  21. We been saying that since 1.0 beta. ^^; The opening scene used to be with them even! I didn't visit Limsa during phase 3 though... Didn't know they and Mara were now in the same spot. Used to be Mara were in a ship and Musketeers had their own building. They seemed to be like.. the Limsa Navy or something.
  22. It's not like anyone was aware that the apology post was worded by two people, so reacting agressively to what some said about who should be apologizing is a bit unfair and kinda does mess up the whole apology thing. Just keep things in perspective, folks.
  23. Reasons to roll multipe characters: - Visual appeal (roll different race each time) - Two servers to roll on (means different folks to play with) - RP variety (sure your roe can have all the classes but he's still the same guy) Reasons to just have one character - I have no idea o_o ^^
  24. Ul'dah Underground uh? My old main character Azyria (who's only like a dozen levels in a few classes) from 1.0 is an Ul'dah vigilante (Blue Moon!)... she's both part of and against the underground, depending what part of it we're talking about. Her activities are mostly focused on hindering agressive street gangs in order to reduce their abilitiy to fight each other, thus reducing casualting, and fighting opression from the Syndicate, Brass Blades, whoever else. She'd rather all the power be in the Sultanate's hands. She's not really a big deal, but she's been around for some time. With the influx or refugees, she's been spending less time as a vigilante and more time working her smithy and helping the poor (with crafted goods, food she's bought, but rarely cash). I'm an all for an OOC LS.
  25. Carby is soooooooooooooooooooo cute! ^^
