  1. Wauren for it if there's still room
  2. July 21st event for me, please~
  3. 1st sign me the hell up (goin on an alt) (1st btw)
  4. 1) Blacklist people who walk up godmodding the knowledge that your character is Dotharl. That's just nasty. 2) Don't RP in public. 3) RP in public, put 'no pre-approved walk-ups PLEASE' or some shit in your search info. 4) Exit the RP in-character if it starts to happen, just cut it off. 5) Unplug your modem if it starts to happen, just cut it off. 6) Don't play a Dotharl. 7) Get used to it and look forward to the day when people and characters care less thanks to the shiny new expansion.
  5. Quest giver of the shortest, easiest quest in the entire game, but gives you an inordinate amount of gil and exp for completing it.
  6. This is a very good point and one I did not consider, thank you. I hated Alphinaud during the entirety of 2.0, but thanks to Heavensward I can say that I actually really like him now, and enjoy watching him on screen. Having watched him grow over the course of so many patches really warmed me to him, and I'd say he's proof that Square Enix can write good, believable character development... provided they get enough time and breathing room. Sadly, I don't think Lyse is going to get that treatment, as much as I'd like her to. It's more likely she's going to be relegated to Aymeric status, a boring figurehead for an expansion, and will become irrelevant the second Stormblood starts to draw to a close. Something game changing and major that would prevent this would be awesome, but I'm not gonna hold my breath. That being said, I wonder which of the Three Ladies is going to get the most wholesome and believable character development? Lyse, Fordola or Yotsuyu? Vote now on your phones.
  7. Yeah I really don't get the people who are claiming that Lyse grew a lot through MSQ and accomplished so much on her own. Don't get me wrong, I wanted to like her a lot too, but I'm not going to fool myself into thinking the writing around her was good, or that anything about her character 'development' was handled well. She's static from start to finish. Sure, she feels different from Yda, but she's still goofy and selfish and childish... if anything I noticed these traits more in Stormblood than I did before (though that could be because we've simply spent more time with her/my memory is shit). She got two wardrobe changes and made the leader of the Resistance, despite not having any skills a leader might need. The writing around her was as bad if not worse than Minfilia's. Part of me wants to argue 'it's not the character that's bad, just the writing,' like I do with Minfilia... but constantly getting mad at oppressed non-combatants that are just trying to get by for not seeing things YOUR way is a pretty shitty character trait, lol. Ugh god, why.
  8. Yeeeeeah this is really well said. Exactly how I feel about her too. If it wasn't for Lyse my feelings towards Stormblood would have varied from ambivalent to happy, but Lyse really just dragged nearly every scene she was featured in down. Like... is this child really getting mad that fucking FARMERS aren't willing to fight against the people with magic death robots at the drop of a hat? God damn. If I do Stormblood MSQ again on an alt without skipping cutscenes, I might as well just drink an entire bottle of wine every time the camera pans to Lyse just silently *clenching fist.* I'll probably die but whatever.
  9. Real talk, the Suikoden vibes were overflowing. That was probably what I loved most about this expansion. Suikoden reigns supreme in the storytelling department though. Stormblood just fell flat in a lot of areas, the pacing in particular was all over the place. Azim Steppe and Hien were highlights (I can't believe SE managed to warm me to the lizard people). Lyse was a huge low point for me, which sucked since I really wanted to like her. Hancock should replace her as a Scion. What a guy.
  10. Don't be like that OP. Some people will say you are but who cares? There are just as many people who wouldn't bat an eye. You do you.
  11. First off, no one is arguing that Balmung needs 'new blood' so the RP community can just have more people and then... ignore them, or whatever it is you think is going on. The main concern is people having no warning being suddenly cut off from the main RP hub, people who might have had friends ready and waiting to transfer, and can do so no longer. And yes, after a time, new blood is necessary because people take breaks, they quit, they transfer - all manner of things. Having people come in to replace them is necessary for every community in every MMO. Yes, it is good to have an alternate option so Balmung is not inundated with massive amounts of people, but it is not healthy to sever the flow completely for a prolonged amount of time. My main concern with your argument is that somehow more people = less opportunity for RP? Or something??? Like, I may not have any prior MMO RP experience to back my stance, but I really do not see how this could ever possibly be conceived as a bad thing. Shy, introverted RPers are going to exist on every server, regardless of size. Servers with a smaller RP community may still have large RP events, that will inevitably have some people stewing on the sidelines... just like a real high school dance. So, what's your solution to this? You want Balmung to stay closed indefinitely, so what, shy people can get more RP, somehow? Because if no new people are coming in, long-time people will now be forced to pay attention to them and RP with them? I can't see how this is logically sound in any capacity, so much so I don't even see how the points you made pertain at ALL to Balmung being locked. Established RPers aren't going anywhere (unless SE does something drastic (doubtful)). Many of these sidelined RPers you keep talking about will stay because they know Balmung will remain the largest RP hub in the game for quite some time, even with an indefinite lockdown, and will thus continue to have a large and active community to try and integrate with. Anyway I could go on and on about this but I feel it has very little to do with the topic at hand... your post included. The problems you pointed out have been going on before Balmung was locked, and will continue to exist unless SE just nukes the server entirely. But I'll stop before I give YoshiP any ideas.
  12. What hurts the worst is that the events of Kingsglaive were supposed to be playable, but that got scrapped and turned into a movie instead. Th-thanks, Square Enix... At least it was very, very pretty.
