The LS is still active in the land of cakes

I'd point to a few things: 1. Other than the main two servers any other voice would have been lost here some years ago. So, the tendency for other servers was to find alternatives and that set the ground for not coming here when they grew. 2. There wasn't the Discord alternative, not like there is now. All roads do not lead to the RPC any more. 3. If you are on Balmung this is still one of the best places to come. So we maintain the disproportionate mix. 4. They are here and you don't see them. But I have noticed many many more posts are not Balmung. 5. Time is a great leveler.. give it time and as the RPC is moving with them, we will see. Maybe some folks not from Balmung could comment?

Most of what you ask i would say that given your experience it is what you would expect of an active and thriving RP community, in all its diversity. On Customizability for RP I would say the game offers a wide variety of support. Short version.. very supportive of playing an RP character in a rich visual way. Classes each character can be all classes, that's 26, so can be very versatile in adapting to a persona Gear Dying is possible for a lot of gear, with a one colour per item, and each item will then apply that according to it's look (each item is often multiple colours/shades) Glamoring (or overwriting an items image with another) enables you to look the way you want in any situation Outfits (no stat items) are plenty and include things like bathing attire and seasonal looks You can dress as a peasant, noble, fantastic-hero, etc.. it is very wide ranging Clear/blank items are available so they don't show Setting Largely sword and sorcery fantasy Guns, flying ships and technology is also present The starting areas are western in style and there is the new area now that is eastern There is one player faction There is no open world PvP Character Characters are shape wise similar by race, with height being the main difference Face/features etc.. can be customized. This is somewhat less than BDO/ESO emotes (your character moves) are many and work in a variety of standing/sitting/laying positions you can sit on seats and on the floor or anyplace you can lay down on specific areas (beds etc..) you can swim in some zones you can go underwater in some zones There are no chat bubbles, all chat is in chat windows, you can 4 chat windows/tabs and they can be filtered You can tell/wispier people and join up-to 8 specific chat channels (called linkshells) Environment In the starting area travel is on the ground, in expansion areas flying mounts are available Lots of building are closed, but some are open to use for RP There is an RP flag you can apply to your name plate Dungeons can be used for RP (within the limits of the dungeon) Housing works great, except there is not enough of it to go around (biggest flaw imo) I could go on and on [Edit added extras below] Extras.. There are no add on/in programs, in fact they are not allowed There is internal macros you can write which can help with combat and crafting. They do get used extensively in RP for performing There is a new feature that lets bards play actual notes, so you can play actual music. It cant be macro enabled yet so it is literally playing an instrument

And here are Feb and March (full calender expected end of Jan)

Nebula does fate/fortune/destiny/wise-woman things. I don't do any actual tarot readings, instead I borrow from many methods to do something in game. It tends to be more about the interaction and where that takes things (eg: cards, palms, gems, tea, paint splats, pool of fate, guided dreams, seance etc..) If you are happy for some slightly crazy witch person to take a look into your past present or future, give me a call.

Thanks Ciel that helped ease my mind.

You're overthinking this. It's an article reflecting the general opinion of life on Balmung, as viewed through the people who play on Balmung. In order to get that information, you need to, you know, collect it. There's not really an easier way to explain it. You are probably right, and there is no more to it than simplistic trivia. At least now I am engaged enough to see what comes out of this. Alas, I'm an old soul with old ways - “Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they aren't after you.” Joseph Heller, Catch-22

Sorry my skepticism triggers so many comments, though no ones's comments have actually addressed my concern. I did fill it in, so I can at least comment on that with some certainty. I await the results with interest.

It's literally in the first paragraph and expanded on in the second. I trust Ciel, and I can see from her post a reason she is doing it, not what this is really for, what is the end game, why is it needed, what "thing" is it trying to address? Lemme see if I can answer some of these. Why does it single out Balmung? Who would be helped by this? What's in it for Balmung or its community as a whole? It's a survey about Roleplayers specifically on Balmung. The roleplay experience is different on every server. For every game/community. It's not designed to paint a picture about roleplay in general or roleplay in FFXIV. It's a specific focus. What's the aim of this? What is it trying to address? As stated in the first sentence, it's for an article on The Moogle Post to write an article looking at what life is really like on the server. I feel like that's pretty self-explanatory. Like any survey, the larger the sample size, the more accurate the results. But also just like any survey, it could be completely inaccurate if only a certain group of people answer the survey questions. And the questions themselves may not cover all possible options. Valence addressed a few. So did I on tumblr. So really? What's to be skeptical about? Perturbed by some of the questions, maybe. I feel like they could have used a little vetting before the survey went live. Perhaps they were. In lieu of -other- things going on on tumblr, I'd say this is a pretty benign and harmless thing to do. With its reason stated directly from the start. Normally there would be a reason to do this to answer some premise or such. That was what I was as after. As it stands it seems that "purpose" will be added after the evidence is gathered. I have not even looked at the questions, but I will go and fill it in anyhow. [update] I filled it in and.. Overall fairly innocent questions but.. There seems to be an overly large interest in ERP Some of the questions already discount some answers

Maybe you could tell us what the aim of this is, and why it is needed? Why does it single out Balmung? Who would be helped by this? What's in it for Balmung or the community as a whole? Perhaps, make it server agnostic or at least include all servers so a meaningful comparison can be given. Then when people ask what is the best RP server we can have a constructive answer. I remain skeptical.

balmung [Balmung] Experienced RPer Needs Help
Nebbs replied to gardenofvines89's topic in Welcome Desk
Welcome, no time like now to start on this game. Soooo much content awaits you. As well as asking here I would check out the Linkshells, there are several setup to be helpful. Also an active Free Company ion your timezone would be a great way to get support. -
balmung [Balmung] Experienced RPer Needs Help
Nebbs replied to gardenofvines89's topic in Welcome Desk
There are other RP servers than Balmung, and with Balmung closed some would say the focus is moving. Mateus seems to be doing well, and there others. Check out the Free Company lists as some idea of how much (link on the menu above) -
The truthiest truth to ever truth. This really has nothing to do with the thread, just agreeing that's something I've noticed a whole lot in 4 years. Alas I suspect the 1:9:90 rule applies 1% are active creators of RP situations and events 9% will engage and contribute to these 90% will just expect to turn up and be served

Locks are bad, with no new blood or worse, no new alts all that can happen is total numbers will fall. The only hope is to get more RP from those that remain just to keep things at the same level. I suppose it is also double trouble for me being from EU, and I find raiding is not viable given the increased lag. So I have two reasons to go. Yet i am still here, and that is for two very simple reasons... 1. People I we RPing with at the time stayed 2. I setup an EU FC and we are active and they are great However, for one reason or another (I think maybe RL, for good reasons not bad) I am not as active in RP at the moment. But maybe when things calm down I will come back to seeking out RP and not looking at walls. The housing mess always gets me down, more than I like to think. The Lock does not bother me as numbers are high enough.

FC has been working on the ships in the workshop, but made time to create a new house style here in the Mist (we decided to enjoy making it rather than buying of the MB) ♥ to all of them.

One you can get on would be the basic starting point. So that rules out a couple don't you think?
