  1. Hello and welcome back! As for your questions, I will try to answer them but I need to stress they're all based on my opinion so take it with a pinch of.. that. Yes. Words. 1. Most people roleplay in real-time at a point after the most recent MSQ events - However it's very rare for things in the MSQ to be mentioned directly. There may be hints or anecdotes to a version of events that may have been carried forth to the general public. Most people treat the WoL as an undisclosed person indeed. One of the big reason as to why the MSQ isn't mentioned a lot in RP around hubs etc is because there's a strong culture of not spoilering the MSQ to people who have not completed it. Just because they have not completed it doesn't mean they're not in the same time as everyone else and such. 2. You may find this post interesting: http://kilieit.tumblr.com/post/159315531877/just-how-obscure-is-that-job-crystal-in-lore It gives a brief run down of the jobs and their options. You can check out the lore section on this board where there are some topics and the likes that touch on things more in-depth. 3. Not that I know of. We have a pvp-area that has an arena type thing in it but there's no big open world pvp zone per se. 4. Both! FC's are good for getting some friends and connections that go for the same things you go for in RP, and linkshells can supplement with both ic and ooc connections based on interests, themes, finding rp and so on. I'd say you'd do well with not focusing on just one thing. It's a big community out there! Embrace it all. 5. Bookmark this: http://balmungrpcalendar.tumblr.com/calendar A lot of open world/open to all RP come in the shape of events. Ul'dah is a general hub - for better and worse. Think of a more diverse goldshire where you may find quality roleplay and you may also well, find goldshire. Most people who are actively IC will have the RP icon turned on - A lot of guilds that cater to RP have their tags ending in -RP & finally if you right click a person you can inspect and see their search comment which is also a good way of figuring out if someone is a roleplayer. Don't be afraid to ask oocly and reach out, most people are friendly
  2. Oh it is lovely! I adore the eyes and the lighting! Very nice Thank you!
  3. Idle-emote all the time, as others have said. Another thing is to avoid placing your character in places that naturally do not inspire walk-ups, especially in bars. It's very easy to fall into this sort of pit when you enter a player made tavern; some are great and has designs with relatively no risks whilst others have some areas that see no natural flow of people beyond smaller groups (which is most likely what they were designed for). Nooks, crannies, and generally the further away from the bar you yet, the more complicated an excuse do people have to conjure up in order to make for an approach. Why would someone go to the farthest, darkest corner when there are seats at the bar still, etc. This is then made even worse by standing about in silence and dropping no hooks. If you're in doubt about how a tavern might have pitfalls, consider observing where people go when they enter the tavern, and how long it takes for someone to fan out towards the edges as the crowd builds up. Also, even though your character may be anti-social and grumpy, they still have to live - certain lifestyles, like that of an adventurer, hints more towards a person being very likely to obtain most of their meals and have their downtime in inns and taverns because if they have a home at all, it might be on the other side of Eorzea. Try to see if you can give them some motivation as to why they would reach out even though they don't like it; maybe wayfinding advice, to check if the food/ale is good before ordering, hearing local rumors to aid them or give them an advantage. Especially the last option is something you can ask literally anyone. Thinking this way has helped me get my own grumpy tall lizardman into more interactions - people are usually fine with him being grumpy, it's not what keeps them away in my experience. If anything, I find that some people may even go "challenge accepted" and figure out why the character is such a grump. ETA: Another point is also that if you 100% rely on people coming -to- you, then you will always end up waiting a very long time for RP. Walk-ups are intimidating, yes, but what is the worst that can happen? If people flee you probably didn't want to be rping with them anyways.
  4. I love your art style! I have some references saved here of my keeper cat-man, he doesn't often get to have commissions when I finally decide on them so if you feel like it you can give it a go: http://imgur.com/a/5iF5P Might commission sometime in the future anyways! Welcome to the community
  5. We're back in just 35 or so minutes! Swing by for a spot of RP that is healthy for both body and mind.
  6. Unfortunately I can't commit to more discord RP at the moment, but when your computer is fixed up (I hope it's sooner rather than later! I would suffer without my pc.) I'd love to see if my keeper catte could connect with your catte. He's not unfamiliar with the entertainment industry and is in need of literally any job, even shady stuff, so maybe? I am on european time, but I stay up late regularly, depending on how your log in times look/timezone it might be possible still!
  7. Welcome aboard! Feel free to check out the EU Directory. It has some links to guilds, linkshells and discords that serve as hubs in the EU community. We're timezone buddies! Feel free to hmu anytime. You can read more about Maril and my other characters on their wikies. I also have a tumblr right here. Maril is a medic and I sometimes do smaller things where she needs help getting to certain hard to reach plants, search and rescue style missions and such.

    Hiya!

Welcome aboard! I know there are communities on Jenova & Mateus, they're smaller but you might be able to squeeze a character in there a bit more easily / without paying for it
  9. Welcome! The EU community on Balmung is of a decent size. You can check out some of the guilds/linkshells/discords in this link here.
  10. Welcome back aboard!
  11. After receiving feedback on the matter, we are now updating our procedures for deletion of wiki pages. Request your wiki page deleted: You can request a wiki page you have created to be deleted. Simply blank the page and insert the following code: {{delete|reason for deletion here}} Pages that have this tag added, by the owner of the page, will be deleted during ongoing clean up efforts by staff. Adding a deletion request to a page that is not your own will be held on par with wiki vandalism and is not allowed. This also works with Media pages, e.g an image you have uploaded. If you for whatever reason do not want the image on the Wiki anymore, simply access the file page, hit edit and paste in the deletion request text. Not sure what images you have uploaded? You can see them here: Pages that have been left blank: Presently we have a large amount of pages that have been left blank, presumably because their owners have not known how to request the pages deleted. If you are the owner of one such, please add the request-for-deletion-code at your leisure. Pages that have been blank for the last 60 days will be deleted when found by staff. This will be an ongoing effort starting from the 5th of May 2017. Wiki pages that are not 100% blank will not be deleted. As always, if you come across a wiki page where you suspect something is amiss or it appears to be completely blank, feel free to contact a staff member, we'll look into it. If you have any questions or worries in regards to this update, you can likewise send us a PM with your questions and concerns.
  12. Just a quick note to state that the clinic is cancelled for this coming Monday 1st of May. Due to me being busy with IRL that day. We'll resume again on the 8th!
  13. Our list of expertise grows ever larger! In the past two weeks we have welcomed three new healers, and their skills are being put to good use already. Get in touch if you want in! We still have space for healers, patients and associates alike.

Here you can browse various listings to find descriptions and contact information about various opportunities that might fit your character, sorted by server. A linkshell functions much like a chat channel and is often interest based, every character can join up to 7 linkshells. Free Companies function like traditional guilds do, offer some perks and every character can only join one of these. Overall, both offer great ways to connect, network and communicate with the RP community in FFXIV. Making & Maintaining a Hall Entry: If you happen to lead a linkshell or free company, why not get a listing on the go so you can capture people's inspiration? Start by selecting the Hall that fits your purpose. If your Free Company is dualistic, meaning that you also have a linkshell, you may make two listings. Once you are ready, click Add Linkshell or Add Free Company. Now you can add in the basic information. This will appear in the size of your finalized listing. In the top of the listing creation part, you have additional tabs. The Main Page is where would typically have your description, banners/pictures and contact information. Click around on some of the other listings and get inspired! (Just don't straight up copy anyone, that is not cool.) You also have custom tabs, which work similar to the main page, but are separate - good for elaborating on all of those juicy details! Linkshell & FC hall listing have to be "bumped" (posted in, replied to) by their manager or e.g an officer from the linkshell/fc once every 2 months, else it will be archived! The RPC Wiki The RPC Wiki contains a lot of great information contributed by the many lovely individuals in our community. However, it is most well known for the plethora of character biographies you can find there. To access the wiki, click on the link in the top menu and log in using the same username and password as you log into the RPC with. On the front page you will find a quick start guide, along with links to templates you can copy and use as you see fit! If you want, you can check out other people's pages for inspiration by hitting "random page" in the menu. Just remember not to copy anyone's page word for word, and do not use templates that have not been clearly stated to be free for use! Having a wiki for your character can be good for: - Inspiring connections - Putting out hooks - Getting some player rumors on the go - Keeping track of your characters information & relations - You can even add a little gallery to it to show off art and screenshots! Wiki Guidelines: Do - Be Creative! - Ask for help! Post on the RPC! - List your character with a first and last name! Don't - Do not create stray wiki pages (blank character or otherwise) - Do not edit others profiles without permission. - Do not post PG18/NSFW content. Additional Good-To-Know things: - At the bottom of most pages you can choose how you wish to sort your content.
  15. Feel free to check in at the EU Directory as well, it offers a list of some of the FC's and Linkshells on Balmung that are focused on EU or tries to cater to EU roleplay times. Hopefully you will be able to figure out where you want to go for RP! Happy hunting.
  16. Modhat time! Some posts have been removed for evaluation. Please stay on topic & be excellent to each other. /modhat off
  17. I am looking for opinions and examples of/about using amnesia as a plot point/element in your characters story, be it in the background or in the present situation. Less about viability, but more along the lines of how would you react if you came across a character with amnesia? Do you believe it is something that can be done "Right" and if so, what would you do to the element to make it work and perhaps let it seem a little bit less like the cliche it has become. Is it an element that has become worse or better as the years have ticked on for your roleplay experience? Is there a flaw/fault that people always end repeating when it is done? I'm also thinking about what difference if any it makes to you, that such an element is placed in a character's background versus being done in for example a year-old character. Does the latter end up seeming more like a "lazy" retcon? It's been a heck of a long time since I've actually debated amnesia with anyone, so I figured why not give it a go here. Thoughts?
  18. Hello everyone. In preparation for Stormblood, we are purging the Linkshell for inactive people. In order to facilitate that, we are moving the active people into a new clean linkshell. The old linkshell will be disbanded on the 1st of may at the latest, or alternatively when we are fairly certain we have got everyone moved. Please send a message to either Maril Hawker, Thala'to Relahna, Nailah Quill or Sashana Star to be moved to the new LS. Messages will be posted routinely in the linkshell itself with this information. We're also still accepting new people into the linkshell! If you want a safe space to discuss lore, find like minded individuals and more then please consider Heavy RP OOC. We're looking forward to experiencing Stormblood with you all, best wishes o/
  19. We're open in just 45 minutes! Come on by, be it for health or stock up - or just a chat. We welcome anyone and everyone
  20. Welcome aboard, and please enjoy your experience on Balmung
  21. I do not know how you have kept running the Grindstone for so long without going insane, and you probably hear a fair share of praise for it, but as someone who finally actually participated after idly watching the event on-and-off from the spectator side for the last year-and-a-bit - please keep up the good work! It was really fun.
  22. I clicked on this because for a flash second I suspected that bots had become smarter. I am glad to see it is a new shiny person instead. Hello new shiny person, welcome to the boards! o/
