Welcome back! As the situation is right now, RP exists on many different servers. Balmung being locked does not mean that there isn't any RP on Balmung anymore - And I'd caution you to consider rolling a new character on any other server before you opt to transfer away. Balmung has been locked for six months, and it does not look like it'll change anytime soon. Mateus is the "Secondary" hub in terms of size, but a number of communities have arisen on a range of servers, what I have dubbed the Alternative Servers. Gilgamesh, the former secondary hub, have also been opened up again. For more info, check this discord out: https://discord.gg/DpfXZZq Good luck in your search o/

balmung The Matron's Reach: Open Clinic | Next Opening: November 21st
Maril replied to Maril's topic in Chronicled Events
The clinic is open until 9pm EST today! -
For all of your reactions to the live letter. Official translation thread here: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/356388-Letter-from-the-Producer-LIVE-Part-XLI-Update-Thread What're you guys most excited over? Do you think the housing implementations will help the problem?
-
The Matron's Reach is still looking for YOU! Yes you, the owner of healybeans, unfortunate patientbeans and "I wanna RP with these beans"-beans.
-
I would not want to have unlimited gil. As someone who sits on the housing they need and still has more gil than they'll ever need (I have been an end-game crafter for years, now) - You kind of lose the motivation to make more. Unless you set some arbitrary goals just to see if you can beat your own personal records and stuff like that. It's nice to be able to drop a few mil on the shinest glamour and not really feel it, and also be able to buy minions for friends/sponsor gil prizes in RP events and such, but there's another sense of satisfaction you get from grinding hard and putting your devotion into things. Obviously, I did that to get where I am, but now I am here and I just sit on this pile kinda like smaug. So I would never part with it unless you're a really crafty and brave hobbit ok. IC-wise, I think Maril would head out and try to like, heal all of the Eorzea. All like "Brb guys someone sneezed in Shirogane".

Maril replied to novalescent's topic in Player Directory
/modhat on This is a reminder of our RPC Rules. We do not allow call outs in any shape or form here. This is not the place to discuss internal drama between individuals. If anyone has any doubts on if it is alright to post a certain thing, the RPC Staff can always be approached via PM's for guidance. -
Do you want to become the Grandmaster of Eating in Eorzea? Do you want the title “Eorzea’s Biggest Nom” all to yourself? Then look no further. Sign up for the competition by posting below / sending a PM or in-game tell to Maril Hawker from now and until the event starts*. *Rolling signups are allowed under certain conditions during the event also.

Just to add an anecdotal note, we did use to have server-specific forum-categories - I believe at the time it was Balmung/Gilgamesh and Other, however as time went on the sections were closed - the reasoning among others being that having specific debate categories for servers seemed to make people think that the RPC was mostly Balmung-centric since Balmung's forum-category was getting the most activity. There has been an ongoing focus ever since on making the RPC appeal more to communities outside of Balmung within the system limitations we have, and as I see it (as a person, not a moderator) there never has been a clear cut intention to keep the forum balmung-only. What I hear in the debates I've seen and participated in around and about is that people either: - Can't be bothered using a forum or find it difficult - Think that the RPC is only for Balmung - Think there's a lot of drama on the RPC - Have not heard of the RPC For the last two, I can't help but wonder if people have gotten so used to saying that things are this way because it's just what you say - Where there isn't put any attention into updating the opinion. Specifically about things being dramatic here, I would say in the last 1-2 years there has been a notable decline in topics that explode, and an increase in even difficult/volatile topics being discussed in a respectful manner. Comparing it to other places (Like Tumblr) makes the RPC look like an idyllic farmhouse on the countryside. Either way, how I see it is that you have to be the change you want to see in the world. This is especially true for a place like a forum. Instead of subscribing to old ideas, you could opt to go "So what" and post/participate anyways, essentially. If other people see a more diverse group of servers-under-the-avatars involving themselves in the debates then you may just inspire others to jump in too. I think that the coming upgrade of the RPC is going to help support a positive change, by giving us additional possibilities to support the community how it is now, not how it used to be. *Just putting an extra disclaimer into noting that this is my personal opinion and not my opinion as a moderator, no hats.

In need of a method to quickly unload your wares? Storage getting a little too full? Mayhaps you are alternatively looking for that perfect accompaniment to your outfit, or a rare weapon to sunder the very skies themselves? Then pray, look no further. We here at the Sea Breeze Bazaar pride ourselves with playing host to whatever your heart might desire! Where: Moraby Dry Docks - Lower La Noscea When: March 17th - From 5pm EST to 8pm EST. (Reoccurs monthly - 3rd Saturday of every month!) We welcome anyone regardless of whether or not they wish to be a vendor or a spectator, entertainer or security. This event is designed to actively help foster mercantile RP within our community and businesses of all walks may attend and hawk their wares. Merchants: All merchants are asked to set their status as “Looking For Meld” in order to better help themselves stand out amongst the crowd. You can do this easily by editing your search options! Additionally, it can be a help to put in which kind of merchant you are along with any link to off-screen material related to your stall. You do not need to contact us ahead of time! We welcome people to simply walk in and pick a spot for your stall. All types of merchants are welcome! However, be aware that the area will be patrolled by Maelstrom officers, for those of you dealing in illegal goods. As a merchant, you may advertise your stall in /yell once every 10-15 minutes, this is to ensure there is not too much spam and every stall gets the visibility it deserves! Other roles: As well as merchants, we also welcome people such as performers, guards, samaritans, town criers and more. If you wish to undertake one of these roles, please contact the event leaders ahead of time. We will let you in on any details there may be! Questionable antics and thievery is tolerated, so long as consent is sought and any consequences resulting from this are embraced. During the event, both the event Organizers and people of Other Roles will be showing the Looking for Party sign. Got any questions? Contact Maril Hawker/MeanderingMind#8375! See you all there!

discussion Spying In Character: Communication is Key?
Maril replied to Akeno Asukai's topic in RP Discussion
I am in camp if you spill your guts in the quicksand/(Public area of your choice) about your evil misdoings, please count on it being heard. The only cases where I'll disregard something happening in that nature is if people actively and continuously point out in emotes or in ye olde *low* fronters that the conversation that is taking place is below normal earshot hearing levels. It is nice of you to toss an emote, but in my opinion if you're in a public place like say Pearl Lane, and you walk up, you have your RP tag on and you stop within earshot of a conversation then you shouldn't strictly have to - Just following wysiwyg, you are there and they should (if they want to of course, people do whatever) count on that being a thing that happens. If you run up because you were OOC, see people being IC, then switch to walkmode and put on your RP tag - That's a situation where I'd throw an emote because there needs to be an establishment of how your character presumably didn't just appear out of thin air. If you're using any extra measures for being unseen, like magic or whichever, emote emote emote. And be prepared to get busted because of those extra measures, you will never be 100% invisible because other, especially spellcasting characters, might notice your aether hanging about. What I myself can be annoyed with when it comes to people eavesdropping, spying and so on, is that sometimes I find people take the range of hearing to an unreasonable point. If you sit in a crowded tavern with 20 other people, just as the chatspam gets intense, you shouldn't actually count on your character being able to follow a conversation across the room. I also firmly disagree with the notion that you can hear across floors in a house because the dev team at final never asked themselves if the say-range should have a height limit, and that is no matter which race's super-hearing you're using. And if that is something of an overpowered skill your character has; again, emote for it. And then if you want to use whatever information you spied up, ask for permissions before consequences come-a-knocking on their doors. Though that is, as I see it, really just common courtesy to do towards anyone you don't know and who might not expect Bad Things to happen out of the blue coming from yourself. I wouldn't waste too much time on people who get antsy about their plot-details being picked up on and acted on because they spoke of them in super public areas, better just to leave them be. You can still use what you heard but refer to it as coming from some sort of NPC instead, if you for example are into rumor-brokering. /puts two gil in a box -

discussion What are some of your external Bio/Wiki/RP pages?
Maril replied to Arashin Kujqai's topic in RP Discussion
I am working of this style for all of my characters: http://meandering-mind.tumblr.com/Maril#_=_ I've adapted it from this http://theme-hunter.tumblr.com/post/164710582619/aisrps-psylla-about-page-01-by-aisrps-live - I don't know how to code, I just started removing things and guessing a lot. I like more simple templates than the fancy stuff that started out with being. My main goal is to have it up as a mini wiki-profile, because I spend a lot of time on Tumblr, and then to keep relations written there - Relations will still be on my wiki, but the tumblr one might be updated more regularly. I love my wiki-page's design, but I get lost in the mountains of code.- 1 reply

balmung The Matron's Reach: Open Clinic | Next Opening: November 21st
Maril replied to Maril's topic in Chronicled Events
We're open today! 3pm - 5pm ish, Dr. Bex'li is responsible for the fort today. -
My main concern when it comes to the lockdown is that whilst Balmung has a heck of a lot of RP'ers, there's only a chunk of those who create events or "content" if you would on a larger basis (outside of FC's), and that chunk of people are prone to burnouts. I'm not saying that we can't get new proactive people from the chunk of people who do not usually create events, it just doesn't really seem to be something that happens a whole lot? I have noticed that there's less new events sprouting up, there's recurring events shutting down that are not getting naturally replaced by something else, and attendance at the regular events - both from my experience and what I've heard - has been on the decline. Getting new blood is absolutely vital to recurring events, because once people have attended something a few times the interest will just naturally drop unless the event is very very good at re-inventing and branding itself. I'm not saying that we don't have enough stuff going on, I am just worried that as we go on being in this lockdown, the proactive people will become fewer and fewer and that we might lose even more of the fantastic open event culture we've got on Balmung. So whilst I am not starved for people to RP with, sometimes I end up being starved of things to bring people to. Whilst at the same time hosting events that is getting less and less attention, putting a larger demand on re-invention, proactively seeking people out for them instead of relying on advertising, and going above and beyond which isn't a bad thing it's just not very sustainable.

Welcome aboard! Always good to see a fellow European. Omega is the biggest of the EU-cluster hubs for roleplay as far as I am aware, you could probably roll a character and have a peek about. There are also some on Balmung, however Balmung is locked at the moment so it is impossible to get here. Have fun! o/

I do not participate in this tournament (or any other for that matter, most happen when I sleep. Curse you, Timezones) but if I were you I'd stick to what seems to fit with the concept. If it's a winner takes all type of tournament, then having a second prize/consolidation shouldn't be there because it takes away from the feeling of the ultimate win, being The Special Winner of the day. I would also be a bit wary of people asking or demanding there to be additional prizes, because honestly it comes across to me as them not doing the RP because they want to, but doing it solely because they want the prize. Alternatively, make the prize be an IC thing only, attaching no gil or items to it. Then you can easily say that there's also an imaginary prize for the second place person. Whilst I am super guilty of including gil rewards in certain types of events (not all, far from all) that I've run for the server, I am actually not a fan of the trend - I don't believe anyone should be rewarded for their "effort" put into an event as a participant beyond having the experience of awesome RP, because at the end of the day running events is usually a volunteer effort entirely wherein the organizers aren't compensated in any other way than appreciation and awesome RP-experience feelings. Roleplay shouldn't be something you can do to grind up gil, it creates an uneven field of motivation.

If you are proactive about it I am sure you'll find your way into a suitable RP setup! It can seem like an impossible task, but my experience is that as long as you can bring some food to the table - figuratively speaking - people are happy to join the feast. You may have to explain you are new to the game to any group you're wishing to join, as it means people have to be a little more considerate of spoilers shared in places like FC and LS talk For the same reasons not all groups are suitable for newbies. But, persistence pays off. Good luck!
