  1. I have never experienced these kinds of problems on my Au Ra, he is a Khatayin and the most reactions I get are; "Is that a player-made tribe?" and reactions to his looks (he doesn't look friendly). I've had him hang around Ul'dah quite a lot, including pearl lane, and the shit I've gotten there is shit I started on my own because he "accidentally" threw some rats at people. I would be cautious to take an incident, or even a repeat of incidents, and go out to call it a generic problem than spans the whole community. It's the kind of thinking that would only push to drive you away from playing a certain race. I got caught up in it with my first attempt at playing a female miqo'te- finding it hard for that character to be taken seriously- and thinking "Boy, people really do think female miqo'te's are only here for the sexy" - Instead of focusing on finding people who didn't think this way and ignoring the rest. It sounds to me like you need to communicate OOCly with people who come to you and act in a way you think is unfounded. People have already commented a lot on the how-could-this-happen, and I definitely agree on the notion that you have to own up to what you play and accept that some races are more open to certain stereotypes. Because Eorzea is a horrible place, and Othard is even worse. But at the end of the day, if you feel harassed and that your roleplay is being ruined, you need to send a tell to the person/people doing this, and either ask them to back off or ask for an explanation as to the behavior. Alternatively, you need to put the people on ignore, stop responding to them or move to a different location. Don't limit yourself by thinking that you shouldn't whisper a stranger, if anything the fact that you don't know the people who are roleplaying at you is even more cause to communicate oocly. Your comfortzone is as valid as theirs, and sometimes you can salvage things through communication, and if it can't be salvaged then the worst that happens is that you figure out that you shouldn't be rping together- and that's okay. Saves both ends a lot of hassle. Whenever I am around the quicksand and related nearby areas, I always apply a filter onto what my character hears and sees, because if I didn't their world-view would be skewered and broken rather quickly - People come out with the most random admissions, from being half-dragons to walking-and-willing voidsent-possession victims, and I can't actually stay true to my characters in those cases, as especially with my Xaela his immediate reaction would be to punch people's faces in. Applying a bit of a filter and taking things with a grain of salt, assuming that people are straight up crazy, allows me to hang out in these locations and still retain the possibility of finding new connections there, character progression and all of that jazz.
  2. I think I did way back for a different character, not so much because of RP, but because of the Balmung FB group. At the time I did not want to have my real name show up in that context. I've since then become far too lazy for such logging in and out action, and I seldomly post/comment anything in that group anyways. Actually, I don't use facebook much for anything other than my city's group just to see what's moving. Like most of everyone else, I use tumblr for my characters.
  3. It comes down to what kind of event you want to lead and what you're comfortable with. If you're not comfortable telling people to hold back, then you shouldn't lead an event where that is demanded of you - So when you advertise the event, you should make a point out of saying that people can go wild w/o repercussions. Then people who are not fond of that can elect not to attend the event, or at least know what they're in for. Likewise, people with offbeat/non canon/controversial concepts will know that they have a safe zone there. You are probably not going to avoid disagreements ever, but having synergy between what you're doing and what you say you're doing is a solid step towards preventing them. Another step would be to not have something that is bound to go off-canon/controversial in a public location, where others who know nothing about your event, also roam. If you want an event where you have a stricter adherence to lore, assuming in this case that you are comfortable with telling people to hold back, then I would probably think of it this way: - Does what this person is doing or want to be doing require a player to be equipped with moderate or extensive amounts of information about the character's rationalization of the magic they're using? (Examples here could be white magic, black magic, self-created magic/magic without clear lore support in the present time) --> If the answer is yes, then that stuff should not be used in the tournament, because you cannot explain this to 20+ people and expect everyone to understand and accept it. You don't have the time, either. In this case you would then have to tell the person to hold back, and not bring their A-game, which might not sit well with them - but it is your event and your rules at the end of the day. You are dealing with two very different types of roleplayers, and making both meet on the middle is not something I'd attempt to do at a public event. Not to mention, your energy as an event organizer is better spent going 100% on the concept you want, without trying to make it seem palatable to a certain audience. No one is entitled to show up to everything, but on both sides of the fence you'll have people get very insulted that an event isn't for them. These aren't the people I would focus on appeasing with a public event. I would want to appease those who are already having fun. There isn't a roleplay community out there that doesn't need their event creators, and my personal experience and observation tells me it's one of the "types" of roleplayers that are the most prone to burning out, which is why I bring up this whole point of your own comfort-zone as well. It has to be fun for you, or it wont last. If I had to do a tournament of either kind, I would honestly make it a sign-up based event so as to make sure that there will be attendance, and people know what they get. Sign-ups gives you some important control as an event creator, and makes things easier to coordinate with certain types of events. I can admire the Grindstone for being what it is, but I think it's the exception to the rule for fighting tournaments. The fact that it is still here makes it an exception to the rule for any kind of recurring RP event. -- On a more general note I think that in respecting the different roleplay styles out there, it is also important to be able to look inwards and accept that you're not going to like everything you see, so it's best to focus on attending and supporting what you like, and then not caring about the rest. There is no one person in this world who has had a good experience with someone calling them an elitist, or a lolroleplayer, so whatever you do don't do that. Being called one thing doesn't justify or give anyone any right to go out and call people the opposite.
  4. I'm curious! Take a moment to answer the poll if you'd like. Do you have any good or bad experiences to share with advertising on RP on the partyfinder?
  5. This is not what the RPC is for, as such the topic has been locked.
  6. I don't see the appeal in role-playing something that as of yet doesn't exist, the information that circulates about Viera tends to be 90% unconfirmed rumors - Kind of like Ishgard housing. Of course it's entirely up to oneself if one wants to run the risk of never actually being able to have a character model, nor proper lore to support what you're going for. Either way, until they implement it, your connection to other roleplayers will be - not impossible - but a bit diminished as you'd need to find people willing to see beyond the lack of implementation, and understand that your (insert race of stand-in model) is actually a Viera and not go by wysiwyg. At the very least they need to understand/accept that if they participate in public events/public roleplay, then not everyone in attendance will accept or treat the character as a Viera, as not everyone checks search comments/looks up wiki or tumblr pages etc. It strikes me as a mammoth of a task to implement an entirely new race at this point in the game, with how much armor we have that would need adapted, I don't blame them for putting other things at the top of the to do list. Personally I would rather want new classes, crafting jobs etc. over something that is purely aesthetic at the end of the day.

  8. So having spent a few hours in Eureka, and with what I've heard of locations discovered, I ended up thinking. The timer is quite long, there doesn't appear to be any penalties from leaving and rejoining - Say and emotes work. There's locations without monsters, and I am certain that with enough time low-level mobs wont bother people much. There's a lot of people right now, but unless they somehow manage to keep peoples attention then the hype wont last for long. At least within the Data Centers, I think there could actually be a potential for cross world RP. Even in larger than 8 man groups, as long as one would be willing to try hard enough to land on the same map as the people you want to RP with. The lore might have to be messed with a little, but honestly this all has me really curious. How do people feel about potentially role playing in such a location? What would you do with it if you were to give it a go? Have you spotted any locations that could be useful? I honestly like the steps they're taking with things like Eureka, I am starting to see more and more how the promised cross-server linkshells could become useful - maybe we will actually end up in a situation where the walls between the servers aren't so solid anymore.
  9. If your roleplay is affecting your emotional state negatively, for a longer time or in an intense way, then you need to take a step back and clear away from the influence that is bringing it on. As much as it sucks and can hurt more, you are better off for it and will be able to move on hopefully without burning out on your RP. At the end of the day, we don't roleplay to wind up feeling excessively sad and unhappy.
  10. How you tackle healing in roleplay is down to your play style as much as there's lore available for it. If you are the kind of person that naturally dive into details with your roleplay, then it's going to look different to someone who focuses more on the game-play spells and/or visual effects. On top of that, there's a time and a place for detail-diving - if you are offering to assist with healing at a fighting tournament for example, then you'd be best off not going into intense details because such an event has an already intense time-pressure. Lorewise, and this is just how I have interpreted it - then aetheric healing magic is not a cure-all, instant or even permanent fix. We have seen some cutscenes in the MSQ as of late where injured people are said to be injured for a long time - days if not weeks - and they're essentially prescribed "rest" to fix their problems. In a way you could see magic healing as what saves people from dying, but it doesn't cure them, time does. Some elements of the lore surrounding conjury suggests that if rest isn't kept, then the positive effects of the healing magic will revert/go away/land people in trouble again. So in a TL;DR version, underplay rather than overplay - and tie in traditional methods, such as medicine and surgery. If you are progressed to the point where you can do the Anarta beast tribe quests, then you at some point wind up having a healer NPC around at the base. When you walk up to them, various little scenes start, where you can see a patient and how the healer talks to them eludes to the patients problem/treatment. I found that inspiring. As for herbal remedies, we have the fantastic Botanica Eorzea. A lot of quest items and gatherable items have snippets about their uses, including in medical/medicinal ways. You can also let yourself be inspired by the alchemy craft, for example an interpretation I have is that Ether (the drink, not the magic) tastes horrible because it's largely composed of animal parts such as bone which doesn't exactly inspire a good taste. Additionally, very good bean people have written things to try and help people roleplay more realistic healers; they're not specific to the XIV universe but you may be able to use some of it either way. https://sizhatonaz.tumblr.com/post/165948795343/medicinal-herb-preparation-terms https://scriptmedic.tumblr.com/ Most important of all is clear and precise communication between you and whoever you are trying to heal. My advice, if someone "conflicts" with your style (E.G they want a quick instant fix) is to not contend it and either roleplay it out, handwave it or direct the player to a different healer if one is available. I hope this can help you - I wouldn't think in terms of "doing it wrong" because it's a very diverse area.
  11. New poster up! The Seabreeze Bazaar is looking for guards, if you'd like to get in on this, please get in touch!
  12. With the recent upgrade of Forum Software, we now have additional posting features. In order to eliminate confusion surrounding the use of these, this topic will be used to elaborate on any additional rules for certain features. Feature: Hide Post The Hide Post feature effectively replaces a delete post function. Whilst it is hidden, only the site staff can see the topic. Examples of use of the Hide feature that are permitted: - Accidentally double posting - Realizing that you've made some formatting errors, prompting you to re-post your post without the errors and then hiding the one with the errors. Examples of use of the Hide feature that are not permitted: - As a means to "Delete" the topic or post. On the RPC we do not permit topics to be deleted unless they violate the site rules. If you would like a topic to be deleted, locked or removed, you need to PM a moderator stating your request and the reasoning for it. - As a means to troll others, and other such abuse. The moderators can at any time elect to un-hide a post or topic, should they feel that the action is in violation with site rules/ethics. An automated message will be sent to you if such happens. Should there be an explosion in abuse of the hide post feature, we may disable it all-together.
  13. Back in the day, in another game many years ago, someone sent me a mean-ass whisper because I didn't capitalize my I's, so i would type like this, because capitalizing a single letter to make it a word is a very alien concept in my native tongue. They were all up in the "This is messing with my immersion". I was shook, and I thought this person was -really- rude and not very understanding for someone who was just breaching into the territory of fluent English. But I also capitalized every "I" ever since, getting myself into the habit. I guess a turning point in my learning of English can be contributed to a mean /whisper. Heck. Personally, I wouldn't nitpick on something like that. I know more native English speakers who mess up your/you're and similar mistakes than I know non-natives who genuinely have problems with that level of English. It's been my experience that bi-lingual people have this drilled into their backbone whereas native speakers may be more lax and not care so much - I know whenever I switch back to typing in my native tongue, I make "embarrassing" mistakes like these as well. I'd encourage you to work on some breathing techniques and become a force of tolerance, but then again, maybe you prompting your friend about it is the nudge they need to never ever make that mistake again.
  14. Next one happening soon! Don't mind the typo on the poster.
  15. Welcome to the Events section. This section is for Roleplay Events of all sorts, on all servers. In order to help everyone find what they're looking for, we have some established guidelines for advertising your events in this section. 1. All events posted in here are public events unless stated otherwise. 2. Title formatting: Server as your prefix, Name of the event, Date, Time, Timezone, and where applicable - event type (For example, Fate-14). - On occasion, moderators may step in to help you with title formatting. 3. Tag your topic: Is it recurring? What is the theme? Short tags will quickly help the reader to find an event that tickles their fancy. - On occasion, moderators may help apply tags that are useful in this regard. 4. Make sure your topic has all the relevant information for your event; - Location, server and instance where applicable. - Time, date and timezone. This site is used by people all over the world, so writing that something is "Tomorrow" may be misunderstood. - Name of host or hosting FC You can use posters and other imagery to your advantage, but it is not a requirement. This section of the forum is subjected to regular clean-ups. Approximately once a week, a moderator will sweep by and move any events that have already transpired to the Chronicled Events section. Please note that the topics can still be posted in, so feel free to continue to give an event feed-back or post-event write-ups. Recurring events must be bumped at least once every two months. This ensures that the section remains easy to browse for current events. Remember that you can list your event in one of our calendars! 1. Click "Create event" on the calendar page. 2. Select "RPC Community Calendar" 3. Add the relevant details. 4. If you would like people to RSVP to your event, you can turn this function on. 5. Click Submit. Please note that if your event is already listed in one of the imported calendar feeds, such as the Balmung RP or Mateus RP calendar, you do not have to create an additional listing within the RPC community calendar unless you would like to specifically take advantage of some of the features, such as the RSVP function. Happy posting!

  18. Some of the miqo'te npcs use that kind of language. Miah Molkot in the North Shroud is one such example when you take a certain quest http://xivdb.com/quest/66444 However it's definitely in the minority and seems to be done for the fun of it. I certainly find it amusing Using it constantly in RP though, I would never do that.
  19. Personally, I do not regard my Miqo'tes as being more cats than hyur, but I also do not disregard that they do have certain traits of feline origin and how that may have had an impact on their culture. So, I do regard my Miqo'te as having good balance, detail hearing, being more prone to being agile - but they don't go about saying nya, have a "cat like" personality or have a feral mindset. They were all raised under civilized conditions, though with their own culture, e.g the keeper who was raised in Ul'dah is civilized in a different way than my seeker girl raised by her tribe. Sometimes I toss in little fun cliches such as them liking fish or whatever but it's not meant to be seen as something that makes them more or less cat, it's just a little more fun when a miqo'te likes fish versus a hyur liking fish. As for my Au Ra, a xaela, I do not think about the fact that they are akin to lizards or beasts or whichever. The xaela culture and the rough climate in the steppes is the reason why my xaela can come across as a rough dude. But again I also do not ignore that they have horns and tails and that they may hear things in a different way. Overall it's nothing that overpowers in their descriptions or personalities.
