  2. Welcome back, Maddox Good to see you around again!
  3. Oh, that sounds good. I have played characters for a couple of people in the past but it always ended in such a way that didn't really allow me to keep the character going, so I don't typically do it, anymore. It's not a hard and fast rule, just something that I'm not super eager to do. Likewise I don't ask people to play characters for me anymore, though I might if it was a throwaway bad guy or something (even then, that's just NPCing for the most part). Again, due to yucky experiences. >.> I definitely know those pains too. I think the key problem for me when it comes to asking others if they'd be interested in for example a relation, people don't really tend to own the character and solidify it enough to be able to play the character independently. It is as if played relations also have to mean the players play together a lot, which then doesn't hold up if one person stops. I think it's because I noticed these issues fairly early on in my roleplaying years that when I made Thala'to, as much as I made sure there would be shared history and ties, I poured as much effort into making sure that I also got to play the character on its own, developing ties/connections that ended up outlasting the player to which he was a side-kick.
  4. What I also find interesting here is, if you play a male miqo'te with the last name "Nunh", the harrassment seems to be able to rival what female ooc/ic players can experience in the shape of nasty tells. My general opinion is that Balmung used to be way worse than it is, presently - You can go into the Quicksand on a female character without getting a single creepy tell, these days. As for OOC aggression from men, I've seen the people who have strong opinions about it but haven't has the (dis)pleasure of interacting with them more than once. As I see it, they are a minority - that can just be a bit vocal. It's nothing I'd compare to ending up with a stalker-type that is out to manipulate you ooc for various reasons, including the standard guy-wants-gamer-girl. So I think if girls want to play guys to get away from that kind of harassment it's still a fairly effective shield.
  5. My longest standing character is currently Thala'to, who is one of the three characters I created in rapid succession after the launch of ARR - so somewhere between 3½-Soon-4-years old. I have however had a short period of time where I did not play him actively. He was inspired and put into the world to be a side-kick of one of my friends characters, who now no longer plays (and haven't played for some years). He's got quite a lot of history because of the time I've spent playing on him, but I do not feel like he is at his end yet at all, there's still lots of potential for character progression. He may just be a concept that has a long viability.
  6. In an effort to keep stickies condensed and relevant, this directory is now being put in place for any Off Site Communications of the community variant. This can for example be enjin server hubs, server discords and other community initiatives. Please do not add websites, discord servers etc. that are specifically tied with a free company or linkshell, for these we refer to the Free Company and Linkshell halls, within the topics dedicated to those Free Companies and Linkshells. Please ensure that discord links are set to never expire, and that the site which you link to is PG-13 safe. Please use the following template: Name: Link: Brief description: If you spot a link that has gone dead, please report the post and we will remove or update it accordingly.
  7. I am a woman irl, I currently play one of my gender (My main) and two guys (My main two alts). Bar some initial struggles with remembering to write the right pronouns, I haven't had much difficulty immersing myself into a different gender role. I like the personalities they've become, completely on par with how I like and have liked my female characters of the past and present. To me it does not matter if a person doesn't play the gender they are, I don't tend to make assumptions - just like I don't assume that someone is an assassin irl because they happen to roleplay one, or even condone evil actions etc. IC is IC and OOC is OOC. What I do end up doing however, if referring to people oocly with the gender of their character (because it's easier) - It's a super old habit, and persists even when I know people are the opposite gender. I have however experienced multiple times that people, upon discovering that I am a female (It's not something I go out of my way to hint at, or to hide.) have decided to basically overnight drop the roleplay. It severely sucks, because it's a lot of wasted efforts, time and plots, but at the end of the day it's also something that's probably alright. I mean, if they were in a mindset where my ooc gender plays a role in their interactions with me, by how I figure things, they probably weren't there just for the roleplay - and I have no desire to hang around people who want to cross the IC/OOC line like that.

  10. I would take a situation like that as a completely fair one. To me, if you roleplay in a public location such as a town or a bar, or even alongside a road, then if someone else hears it - especially if they emote for active eavesdropping, then it's all fair game. I'd find it more sketchy if someone ran up ooc, realized IC stuff was going on, and then changed to RP gear and went IC - because it's kind of imposing and feels a bit meta. However you can never count on people feeling the same way, or even taking proper precautions to ensure that their "unhearable" conversation is in fact unhearable (Tell, Party, excessively emoting that it's nothing but a mutter to others..) and at the end of the day, if other players don't want to play on it, then you can't really twist their arm around.
  11. *An issue in the Lost Canals of Uznair wherein the sound effects for selecting the wrong door are played even when selecting the correct door under certain conditions. So you can open the right door but get the wrong animations and sounds... That's nightmare fodder.
  12. Hey hey! There's a buffet of options. I have gathered some of them in a list here. But you can also check out the free company and linkshell halls, in the menu bar at the top. You can filter and get results for some specific servers as well as "Others" for any server that hasn't got a specific filter.
  13. Alts are the spice of life! Welcome aboard Have fun on Omega.
  14. The information has been updated! Check it out. We've got space for plenty of more, so if you want to join just toss a tell or PM to me - or a tell to anyone marked with a star in the list of names. Cheers!
  15. This thread is being closed as it is not going to be able to be kept on-topic. If you want to get in touch, please send the OP a PM.
  16. http://eu.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/news/detail/72b256b3e08e343c1511f88a1e355929598ee32d This is confirmed to be a temporary suspension of transfers, indeed.
  17. Welcome! Siren has a small roleplaying community with a couple of guilds. You can find them on this list. Hope you'll enjoy your time in FFXIV and on the RPC!
  18. Omega is definitely seeing a good period of growth. Since it's creation, I have registered 9 different FC's and 4 linkshells to an information compilation I am keeping on the FFXIV RP Locations Hub discord server. Unfortunately I can't comment further than this as I have not engaged in any roleplay on the server so far.
