  1. The lag isn't the worst - and when it comes to actual people, Balmung has a sizable EU population represented in the RP crowd. There's guilds that are EU only and guilds that are both open to EU and NA players. There's a discord server for them, and there's a tumblr that increases awareness of EU RP events on a weekly basis. Not being fluent in English isn't a huge problem, at least from my perspective people are usually alright with understanding the occasional grammar & spelling errors. I also know there's other french people around, maybe you'll be able to find some of them! However please note that in the 2 years that have passed, the character creation is now completely locked down 99% of the time. The only reliable way in is through a paid transfer, but the good thing is that you can bring over up to 8 characters in the same paid transfer. Good luck o/
  2. Awesome concept! My main is an alchemist so she is able to produce ink and also reduce/remove tattoos for those regretful moments, so they could end up as business partners if you want! I may have to have one of my alts end up being dared into getting a piercing for funsies as well.
  3. Dear Aegir, We would recommend having your spellbook examined. Try turning it off, and then on again. Kind regards! ------------------------------ In other exciting news, the clinic opens up again in ten minutes! Feel free to stop by!
  4. Morning/midday EST lines up pretty nicely with my afternoon/early evening - I tend to be around on most days so if you feel like doing something feel free to hit me up I am European, so I am about 6 hours ahead of EST ^^
  5. I was going to add this as well. It has always struck me as somewhat odd that things are so divided - is it because it's somehow too unfair to mix things? Why not go for it anyways? It's not like it's deeply unrealistic to meet a spellslinger that wants to sling their spells at you outside of tournaments. And they do need to be able to deal with close-range fighting. There's no such thing as a fair fight at the end of the day, in a complete IC and not OOC manner I'd love to see something more mixed. Heck, how about having it in a challenging area/climate so that the environment can both give a hand and take a hand away, with the creativity of the players. Something else which I'd never really recommend because people are so diverse with how they want to rp, but has kept me from participating (Beyond the timezone bleep) - is that there's sometimes some things that just don't seem like they really have a place in canon eorzea. At the risk of sounding like a grumpy lorenazi, I have a hard time submitting my character to an event which I risk they might not even be able to talk about afterwards because it'd completely wreck their understanding of eorzea. I'm not saying it's wrong to toss these concepts into a tourney, nor do I think it's a solvable thing, outside of some sort of roleplayer utopia. It's just a thought I had. So please don't eat me. On another note, I'd love a pet fighting tournament. PETA might get angry though.
  6. Welcome aboard and welcome to Balmung
  7. Welcome to the RPC! If you happen to be on Balmung or are planning on heading there then check out the EU directory, it might help you find other exotic sounding brits and the likes. The Balmung-EU tumblr posts weekly notices of weekly events that are EU-friendly. Have fun o/
  8. This event is happening now! New for this week, the Alchemy-shop within the clinic has a price-list:
  9. Welcome aboard o/ Good luck with your roleplay
  10. With my Au Ra, I have decided to work more on displaying a cultural difference rather than having the language barrier be heavily impairing. At times he will forget a word, and use other words to describe it (sometimes ineffectively), but more often it'll be a failure to understand why people do certain things in certain ways that he is unfamiliar with and even disagrees with. Learning common eorzean in the time he's been in Eorzea (bit more than a year) is something I attribute to the want to survive, as such adapting so that he can more easily find work. He does remain illiterate for the most part, however. I also chose not to alter the way I write out his speech to make it more obvious that he has an accent, which comes down to me not feeling confident enough with English to feel like that I could consistently and realistically pull one off. I also really wanted to avoid doing things like having him speak about himself in third person. Rather I describe it on occasion in emotes that he speaks with a hint of an accent, and leave it at that.
  11. /modhat on It's great to see such a lively debate, however we would like to remind everyone to be excellent to one another. The thread has been cleaned up to remain accordance with the rules, at the moderators discretion. /modhat off.
  12. Welcome aboard! Have fun on Balmung!
  13. I can't possibly imagine, so long as you stay away from making traits unique to the wildwood, why you'd get "trouble" for using a wildwood to play as a duskwight. Whilst I can't recall right now if there's anything super tell tale that sets them apart, I imagine it's easier than for example trying to pull off a keeper mooncat on a suncat slot due to the eyes. Some people rely on wysiwyg a lot so you may get people who assume them to be a wildwood, but some kindhearted explaining and perhaps turning it into a bit of an IC joke will probably get you out of it fairly smoothly. Maybe you can post some side-by-side screenshot comparisons with your wildwood-duskwight attempt next to an actual duskwight?
  14. I don't like how big of a spoiler that title is. They should at the very least have put in a pop up warning since a lot of people have titles turned on by default. If it was a situation where most people had to enable titles it would have been more okay, but still in the need of a warning somewhere. I feel sad and I want part two now.
  15. I have references here of Maril: http://imgur.com/a/VvB9d And of Thala'to: http://imgur.com/a/5iF5P So if you need more feel free to pick one of those. Maril's eyes are dark-blue. Otherwise things are pretty much wysiwyg ^^ Have fun! Looking forward to seeing your progress.
  16. Heya! The monday opening hours are cancelled on the 16th due to the patch bringing the game down for 24 hours. We'll have the next one in the week after! Glad to see you aboard.
  17. Attention: Due to the 24 hour maintenance in the lead up to Patch 3.5, this event will be cancelled on the 16th of January as the game wont be up when it is held. Next opening is the 23rd of January!
  18. Welcome aboard o/ You may be able to find more information about what Gilgamesh is up to here. You can also check out the Linkshell hall, just remember to sort it by "Gilgamesh" in the top. Have fun
  19. They would use salt, because salt is evidently the better popcorn seasoning. On topic though, I don't think you'd break the world by introducing popcorn to it. I think there's quite the potential for things to be ported over - I certainly do this in the realms of alcohol and mixing drinks. The only twist I spin on things is that I may replace certain flavours/fruits etc with something that is from Eorzea. Example: Rolanberry instead of strawberry.
  20. Every race has it's ups and downs - and racial tension is a part of how Eorzea is glued together. If you look at highlanders for example, they get a tough stick about imposing on other peoples land since theirs got taken, especially around Ul'dah. You're always going to risk that someone plays a character who hasn't in it that they don't like/take well to a specific race - and by my observations, Miqo'te are on the "menu" here quite often as well. Of course if it causes problems with you oocly it is never nice, I just wanted to point out that it's not really something you can run from entirely. Au Ra kind of fall into the same box as highlanders, as they are a refugee race. You may experience more people that are hesitant around them because of how they look (cause like, horns). If you get more or less walk ups, I really have not noticed any difference with my Au Ra's through time - when it comes to that, there are so many things that can influence if people walk up or not. It can be gender related, it can be down to what you have in your search comment, if you have a wiki for the character or not, if you're passively emoting at the environment to provide hooks for people to react on, etc. There's going to be good days and bad days for it. As ExAtomos says, you're almost always going to be better off doing the walk-up's yourself. It may be worth to try and incorporate a sense of being outgoing, desiring to network & curiosity into your character if walk-up's are your main source of RP.
