How Does Your Character React To Physical Touch?
Val replied to Dat Oni's topic in Character Workshop
Val is very skeptical of others touching him. Due to the absolute fear of god put into him by his fiance, he isn't entirely fond of other women touching him unless it's strictly out of friendship. In fact, while he used to be relatively smooth about it, now Val is just incredibly awkward. To top that off, he's rarely ever fully relaxed. He expects most people that are too physical to be up to something, especially when it comes to anyone near his lady, so they're usually treated as such until he gets to know them better. -
Xarek... That name strikes a bell. Do you remember Darth Eradis, the Mirialan Sorcerer? Because he was totally mine. That name just sounds so familiar! The name does ring a bell. On the server there was Xarek and Xerak, and both of us were juggernauts. It was... often quite confusing.

I don't really play other MMOs. In GW2, I was Lucius Creed--though I'm hardly ever, ever, ever, EVER on. Probably never. In SWTOR, I was Xarek the Sith Juggernaut on Begeren Colony. I haven't touched that game in forever either, and likely won't again. Those that wish to do console gaming stuff, my Live and PSN names are the same: Kendei Same goes for Steam: Kendei Feel free to add me, hit me up, whatever. I have Skype and all that jazz, so if you wanna add me to that message me and I'll toss you that as well.

Pretty much every bit of this. It's how I feel 100%. To add to this: I don't think said villains should be made if the person playing them isn't willing to own up to their actions ICly. Otherwise, what's the fun? I can see not wanting to get caught/wanting to be able to get away sometimes, but living a dangerous lifestyle is just that. One can't expect to run around thieving and killing and NOT have SOMETHING happen! Again, not saying anyone here did it! Just saying that's how I feel one should look at villains and others they've created when stepping outside the law.

Again, the whole reason I RPed this in /say instead of /tell was so that people could react. The reaction of the other players isn't an issue here. Oh, I didn't mean to make it sound like I was accusing either of you of that! I was just making a statement =) In those times when someone was jailed, usually they were broken out or escaped or whatever in a few days time, depending. It also makes for entertaining RP and character development! After, she hadn't actually COMMITTED a crime from what I could tell. She was in the midst of inner turmoil about making an either ethical or unethical choice. That alone could take the RP quite far!

Gee, thanks Gharen! Aside from Val getting knocked out, I will say I thoroughly agree with it. And yes, one certainly should have attempted to arrest rather than just arrest you. Granted, after talking in public about it, I'd imagine the arrest would have been attempted and your character would have tried to run/escape or something. I just can't really fathom two characters talking about such things in public, even in a hushed voice or tone, and not expect someone to overhear or react. Yeah, he probably should have asked before moving in to do it, but.. some people come from different backgrounds. Back in other games, people Roleplayed militant guilds that would police streets and would often attack or try to stop individuals that were doing wrong. After all, all of our characters create a living, breathing world for us to interact and immerse ourselves in. Not expecting to be reprimanded when speaking about such things in public kinda breaks that immersion. If an evil guild or group is going to do evil things and don't want people to ever know about or catch them, why RP in game in the first place? Same goes for a mercenary that does illegal things and whatnot. Why even RP in game when you aren't willing to allow the character to receive the consequences for his actions?

A small logistical problem with this, the distance you can hear /say at in this game is quite large. And most of the time incredibly unrealistic. For example you could be in the middle of the Quicksand, with 50 people in the room all talking, and you can hear /say from across the room. Clearly that would be impossible to hear in a normal setting. In an actual crowded bar, you can't hear conversations 3 or 4 stools down, let alone ones occurring on tables across the room. Add on to that the fact that volumes differ, and that voice is variable. What if someone says at the start of the conversation, "/em speaks in a low, quiet voice" someone 10-15 feet away shouldn't be able to hear you. I have zero problem with the fact that the person confronted us. What I will say though is it's way more complicated than if /say shows up on your screen then your character can hear it. Oh I TOTALLY agree with that. If my character's across the room from someone, even though I can SEE what they're saying, I won't assume that Val can hear it, depending on how packed the place is at the time and whether or not they made effort to keep their voice low. Again, I agree with you entirely =) And a lot of times I don't allow Val to interact with others because he's too focused on something else and doesn't quite hear what's being said to him. Also, it's always annoyed me when Val says something and someone on the other side of the wall hears it, walks around and inside the building, and comments on it.

I'm personally more of a free form RPer. In my opinion, if my characters are ignorant enough to talk about these things in public, then they deserve to be caught if they are caught. Val would never openly discuss sensitive information like that, especially talking about running around and killing someone or something like that in the midst of the city. That being said, I'm not saying you shouldn't do what others have suggested. After all, it's your story. I just don't quite see the point of RPing publicly when someone isn't allowing other people to walk up and freely effect the roleplay going on. That all being said, I'm glad everything got resolved! I think my suggestion would be to message the others if you insist on RPing publicly and telling them that you have a certain idea in mind with the story and that, if they want to be involved, they could but only under those circumstances--assuming you want them involved to begin with.
-
I, through this, will apparently have a character involved as well =p though they won't be assisting your antagonist. Sorry, Karaan! I'm glad to be involved either way!
-
My main is currently a guard for a lady and they are in a relationship. The RP is incredibly fun! While I can't say he can be open to more guardly duties as his hands are pretty tied (no pun intended), I'd be more than happy to RP with you anytime should you find me online!

What kind of stories has your character gotten into? Valhasn't really gotten himself involved in TOO much, mostly due to me being entrenched in school and IRL stuff. However, he's managed to make a few good friends and get himself involved in various FC activities. He went from being a simple bar-hopping mercenary living on the streets/barracks to a full time bodyguard in a home. How has your character changed since the game re-launch? Val was a pretty unlikable individual. Now, he seems a bit more open to the ideaof at least being approachable. He tends to think a bit before speaking if his significant other is around, though he hasn't quite learned how to do that without her present. He was also thoroughlyagainst the idea of a relationship. In fact, he often made fun of or laughed at individuals that had committed to such a thing. Now he finds himself in the midst of one, and quite happy with its arrangements. What has been your favorite RP moment so far? There was a pretty nice post that I made after acertain individual decided to try and kiss Val's significant other that I enjoyed a good bit. My other favorite moments would be when Val was sparring with Siobhain. Those have been my favorite fights so far! The other would have to be when Val and his lady were jumped by a group of Imperials. It was a struggle, and they would have lost had D'artanon not shown up to save the day~ What was the most shocking RP moment this year? I believe the most shocking thing, for Val at least, was agreeing to join a FC. He prides himself on freedom and being able to go where he wants, when he wants. He enjoys not being told what to do (unless money is involved--then it's just a job, albeit an annoying one). Agreeing to a commitment of sorts was first a business decision for him; she had money and offered him a place to stay. He grew to like it. Then he was asked to officially "join" them. He disagreed at first and, while he still isn't entirely happy with it, he's making the most of it. What was the most surprising thing you found out about your character? He likes being in a relationship, and he can be quite the caringindividual when moved enough to do so =| What relationships did your character build? Val made a couple of enemies, the most notably beingTobias. He absolutely cannot stand the individual and would prefer to simply not be in the room with him. The individual he respects the most is Siobhain, she having defeated him in combat on more than one occasion. The other respected individual he knows is Berrod, whom he respects for also defeating him in combat and is more than happy to sit and talk him through whatever troubles or hardships he may be having, despite Val not being the best of people to go to for advice. He is married to Faye and the two seem rather happy together despite their recent hardships with the Garlean Empire. What are you looking most forward to seeing in the future with your characters growth and story? I don't really have a lot in mind with Val's growth orhis story. He's more or less just there to be a supporting character to other people's stories. If anything, I'd like to see more individuals approach him and he get involved in other people's campaigns/plots/whatever. I think that will allow him to better grow as an individual and be more open to conversing with people.

Yeah there's like no sensitive content in here aside from what was being discussed because someone made the wrong assumption. A guy goes to the store and buys a bunch of bananas, cucumbers, and a pack of condoms. Where did YOUR mind go? =p it's easy to misconstrue things and expect the worst, but uh.. that's not what's going on here.

Faye, Liadan, and Naih'ir pretty much all said anything I would give as far as my opinion goes. Also, R'mah also stated that she interpreted what Karaan said wrong in the first place--or it was at least misunderstood. Having known Karaan for some time, I too can also stand by the fact that he is a fine individual and would not do something like was originally portrayed in the first post. I will say, however, that his first language is not English and it can be and is very easy to misunderstand and misinterpret what he means. And also: ...Even if someone actually was doing this? Who cares? Is it encroaching on your RP? Are you being forced to RP it? Is it publicly being done in front of you so you're forced to watch it? Do you have an ignore button? ..Then wtf?
-
Oh Val im gana need you and Faye faye for a part of this plot series as well. Of course, R'mah =) I'll be around. You know how to contact me!

Yup. The people you've already been told to contact are who I was going to suggest =)

I'm also not opposed to helping/throwing out ideas for plots =) Feel free to send me a letter or message me in game or on here! -
Liadan MTed me the most steamy stuff I've ever seen. I dare not repeat it here due to its graphic content. For shame, Liadan. For shame.

I really and truly can't say anything that anyone else hasn't already O_o I used to do tech support for Gateway (Yeah, I know). And we also had Dell and a bunch of other things in the center I worked at. I'm willing to help however I can =)

I'm really not impressed with either. I think that they're asking way too much for something with way too little. That being said, I'll still likely get both for exclusives--it just burns me knowing that PCs are so far ahead of this generation of consoles already and they plan on making these things last another 10-12 years. Edit: That being said, my PSN/Live name is Kendei. I'm more than willing to play/hang with anyone that adds me =)
-
Sometimes, I think this guy inadvertently influenced Val a bit.
-
Not shy enough to hang with Val, apparently <3 <3 <3
-
Pfft. You should NEVER feel too shy! Not with us, at least =) I can't speak for others, but I am generally well accepting of any newcomers should they wish to interact. Val, on the other hand, might not be. But do not take that as being unwelcome! He isn't supposed to be in Ul'dah, so he was in disguise. A poor disguise, but a disguise nevertheless! Next time, be sure to say hi =)
-
I, like many others here, am more than willing to hang with you in game and IC =)

Faye and I have noticed that when our two characters are talking, people seem to be apprehensive about joining in. Or, they feel bad about joining in because usually Val goes silent and Faye carries on a conversation with the newcomer. This is absolutely okay with us! Val, the character, has been quite informed that he lacks most social graces and in order to avoid getting on Faye's bad side, he generally learns to keep his mouth shut. That being said, she and I both would be MORE than happy for people to walk up and RP with us when the characters are together. We welcome it and, in fact, wish it would happen more often. I understand people's reservations about being afraid of interrupting something but, honestly, if we're RPing in the open then that means there's nothing to interrupt =)
