As a PS4 player I can tell you that in the Beta the only things you needed PSN for were Strikes and the Crucible (competitive multiplier). You can still play story and free roam content freely. Also, my PSN is ArgentCsero. My EU PSN is PenumbralCraze (I play FFXIV on this one). I'll be using my regular US account for Destiny though. Hope to see you out in the wild guardians! Yeah, but I don't want to pay for a full game and only get half of the content

At this time there's no PC version in the works as I understand it. Otherwise that's the version I'd be looking at myself. =/ Yeah if it were PC I'd just get it for that and have all my problems solved =|

I'll be getting the One version to play Faye Destiny. I was going to skip over it, but there's nothing else really coming out in the foreseeable future that I much care for. I'd pick up the PS4 one to play with you guys, but I don't want to pay for two online services at once lol. That being said, my Live, PSN, and Steam names are all the same: Kendei

Much to Val's dismay, he wore something far more less protective than his usual, armored attire. To Faye's credit, however, she'd done quite the job of picking it out. A dark red coatee covered his torso, either of the sleeves rolled up to reveal the black inner lining. He'd only buttoned half of the coatee with its silver buttons to allow the neckline to hang low. It did a wonderful job of revealing a great portion of the gray shirt he'd opted to wear beneath, or rather, was told he should wear beneath. A pair of dark brown slacks hugged his hips, supported by a black belt with a silver buckle. Of course, the outfit would have never been complete without the black dress shoes he wore, nor would it have been as "stylish," as Val had called it. He didn't feel even the slightest bit intimidating in this outfit. And it itched. And it made him feel vulnerable. And he knew that should someone try to shoot an arrow into his back, he'd be dead and she'd be taken. These were all things that he had likely said to her in concern, but she was his Princess and employer, so she ultimately won out in the argument. Therefore, he was left to simply amble on behind her, hands in his pockets, eyes covered by the dark shades he so often wore during his trips through Ul'dah, and a thoroughly displeased scowl on his face. That was probably the most intimidating thing about him for the time being. A disgruntled groan escaped him at the woman's words, "Ugh, c'mon Princess. I told ya I spit in that fucker's tea 'cause 'e said y'were pretty. I ain' gonna do it anymore 'cause y'got all pissed off at me th'first time. I--" He'd been cut off and soon found his attention resting on the building and, more important, the Elezen that occupied the spot outside of it. He made sure to keep a bit closer to the woman now, feeling thoroughly naked without the large lance strapped to his back. "'Lo," he offered alongside Faye, doing little more than lifting his right hand from his pocket and giving a two-fingered salute from the tip of his forehead. Afterwards, Val made sure to keep both arms to his sides. His eyes remained fixated along Jaques for the duration of the conversation and it likely took little effort to notice that his body had gone rigid. Both of the long, furry ears atop his head lifted ever so slightly skyward, slowly rotating this way and that in order to try and discern little noises about their immediate vicinity. Meanwhile, his tail had gone completely still. He was fully alert, that childish and playful demeanor locked away in light of suddenly being considered "on duty."

Is being a fighting RPer a turn off to other RPer's?
Val replied to LiveVoltage's topic in RP Discussion
No, I wouldn't. Why would I? I'm just going to go ahead and agree with Verad here. If someone called Val or any of my characters a mary sue, I'd probably just shrug and laugh it off. I know they aren't, and honestly some random person's opinion in the internet isn't really going to grind my gears enough to make me angry. -
While I don't normally condone it, I believe that when it comes to certain people thinking their character is invincible when it comes to causing random acts of violence, it is best to ignore them. Usually I do what I can to involve everyone in my RP, but if the same guy comes into the bar for the fourth or fifth time and causes issue without accepting any of the IC repercussions of his actions, then I'll eventually end up ignoring him. As I've stated in the OpenRP linkshell, I came from a place where that simply wasn't tolerated. You had people that RPed as law enforcement and villains that would actively respect it. It was fun! Sometimes the villains won and got away, other times they barely escaped and had some serious injuries that they had to try and hide. Then they were jailed, which led to interesting RP of them being jailed and/or their gang or friends breaking them out somehow. All of those roads lead to wonderful character development for the villain, the law enforcement RPers, and the random people that are around to witness. I strongly feel that it helps to foster a healthy and fun RP environment, so long as everyone continues to respect everyone and all that good stuff.
-
Pretty much this. While I don't generally condone it, I think that characters that constantly cause threats and expect their character to get away without any consequences to their actions are better off ignored. Yes, sometimes the bad guys/villains win and get away. Will they always do it? I don't know; maybe, if they're smart enough. Will they always get away unscathed? Highly unlikely.

Cyrus Mulano I think would technically be part of the Flames, or some such soldiery unit that stands around and tries to keep things in line in the city. I can't make it this Thursday (8/28/14) due to it being the girlfriend's birthday and I'll be indisposed all day. I am generally free all day Saturday and Sunday and after 9 PM CST on the weekdays. I'm usually good until 2 AM CST during weekdays.

What is your character's Virtue/Vice?
Val replied to WanderingWordsmith's topic in Character Workshop
I would have to say that Val's virtue is Fortitude. He's generally pretty headstrong and if he wants something enough, someone will be very hard-pressed to convince him otherwise. While he does generally tend to just look out for himself, there have been times when he had a goal to ensure another's well-being and wouldn't let anything stop him, especially where a loved one is concerned. Val's vice, of no surprise to anyone, is Lust. He loves pleasure. He loves things that make him feel good. He loves things that help him forget about his troubles. This of course includes wine and, until he met his significant other, intimate relations with just about any female that was willing to. Even fighting to him can be seen as a source of pleasure as it takes his mind off of everything going on around him. Now that he has his lady, however, he just focuses on keeping her happy instead and enjoys the fruition of his efforts. -

balmung Looking for Ul'dah RP with Miqo'te
Val replied to Stagnetti's topic in Chronicled Connections
Hi, thanks for the reply. Val Nunh could be interesting. He possesses some of the traits that causes R'tashana to shy away from Miqo'te. But Melfice and Cyrus would not be good. More than likely she would high-tail it out of there. Let me know what time works for you, and we can go from there. With my classes starting back, my schedule will be sporadic at first. It at least appears to be in line with you and I tend to get home from work around 9:10 CST during the week. -
balmung Seeking slavery themed connections
Val replied to DreamedReality's topic in Chronicled Connections
Cyrus would definitely assist if you ever manage to find slavers willing to have people interfere. Val, as much as he tends to keep to himself, would also lend some assistance. Slavery is one of the few things that grinds his gears enough to allow him to come to an understanding with others. -
balmung Looking for Ul'dah RP with Miqo'te
Val replied to Stagnetti's topic in Chronicled Connections
I'd be willing to meet up for some RP sometime, but sadly all I have are Miqo'te or male Hyurs. I don't want to cause issues for your character unless that's something you're into You can find the wikis to my characters in my signature! -
Lore catches: Sylphic language, hunt bill translations, and literacy
Val replied to FreelanceWizard's topic in RP Discussion
I don't recall him ever flat out stating this, but anyway... SWEET VINDICATION AT LAST. Edit: This was a big deal for me as I got into some heated discussions back around launch about how being able to read in Eorzea should be considered a BIG DEAL that was largely ignored or written off. All that time spent with an illiterate character that is in awe of people that can read feels so worth it now, even if it seemed like NO BIG DEAL to most everyone else. We should make a club of people that can't read. Val can't do it either and always thinks it's strange or gets pissed off when people laugh at him for it -
It seems like something simple and, to some people, it is. You just think of a story and start roaming around RPing it from there. The problem I've always faced is getting people on board that are interested in your ideas, or getting people that want to join you. It's hard to get people on board with RP and get stories going. I like to dabble as an active and a reactive RPer, but I also like for people to forge their own path and do their own thing. I've found that it's difficult to recruit people willing to be villains that will follow their own path in the RP rather than work with something that's preordained or pre-planned. I don't mind having a particular end goal in mind, but I do like it when all players have the ability to change that plan based on the actions of their characters. This.. probably wasn't a suggestion so much as an acknowledgment of understanding. If you ever do wish to RP or want someone to RP with, you're more than welcome to call on me. I'd be glad to get involved in anything =)
-
Some people tend to think Nunhs are just manwhores and there are those that RP them as such. That being said, no one should make snap judgments based on a floating name above your head--especially if it's lore related. If people are going to judge you before they meet you based on that, then they're likely doing you a favor anyway by letting you know to steer clear of them =) As far as your reason for him being a Nunh goes, that sounds fine. You don't even have to say he won--just said that he left his tribe and is on his own. By default, that would make him a Nunh much like my character is. IC, of course, people are going to react. Miqo'te society isn't exactly the norm to many people's characters and people will view it as strange and different and out there. But that only helps for character development and shouldn't really be looked at as a necessarily bad thing unless that's just not what you're going for. At that point, you could just keep the name and go by something else entirely IC.

4YrBHkJUf3A What if Val had lost Faye? "Your services are no longer required." The words echoed through his head like a nightmarish apparition. Whether several days, weeks, or months had passed since he'd heard them were unknown. The only thing that Val knew was that he couldn't get them out of his head. He of course managed to recall bits and pieces of the events before and after, but they were never something that he willingly did and they only came during the moments when his body was far too weary to carry on without rest. He'd spent however long trying to rid his mind of the thoughts and sounds and smells and images of that which haunted him. He remembered every little detail of the moment, from the dress she wore to the tone of her voice and the sad look in her eyes as she turned to leave. He recalled the scent of her perfume, the way her skin felt as he tried to take her hand in order to stop her, and the way her voice broke when she openly denied him and told him to go. For the last time he did as she told, fighting back the tears in his eyes and taking the offered bag of gil for "services rendered," as she'd called it. Services rendered. Certainly it had been a service at first, but he'd long since thought his duties far transcended that. What of their love? Their marriage? What of the many times they'd held one another and the promises that they'd made to never let go? How could she teach him such things about life and then leave him on his own? Val had tried to not think of these things. He instead returned to the bridge that he had practically lived under before she'd came to proposition him for his services. Part of him just knew that she'd soon find him in order to apologize and tell him how much she loved him. That's how things would always happen, right? It usually took no longer than a day or two, and he'd gladly take the time to gather his own thoughts and figure out what it was he did to drive her to such a decision. Much to his dismay, she never came. No matter. She was as stubborn as he was, so perhaps she was tired of coming to get him. Certainly this was just one of their many fights. That had to be it! After all, she'd always promised that she would never leave his side. Maybe this time she was waiting for him, instead. So he traveled back to their shared condo in Bronze Lake, a smile on his face and hope in his heart. He thought it was strange the way that the keep looked at him when he asked for the key to their home, and even moreso when the keep insisted that no one was there. Truly afraid, Val rushed to their home and all but destroyed the door with a hard, charge of his shoulder. So panicked was he that he didn't realize the state of the place as he ran about calling for her, screaming her name at the top of his lungs in a manner not unlike that of a frightened child. It wasn't until after he checked all the rooms in the house that he noticed the home was empty. The furniture, her clothing, portraits, and little knicknacks that she'd placed around their shared abode were all gone. Suddenly the realization hit him like one of Berrod's powerful strikes to the chest: he was alone. Only her scent remained to keep him company, a rapidly fading remnant of the life he once had. It wouldn't take long for him to return to his previous way of life. He first entertained the desires of the many women that wanted him but had previously failed to pry him from his princess. Much to no one's surprise, they were quite irate when they failed to keep him to themselves as she had. When he'd had his fill of them or they grew tired of his unfaithful ways, whichever came first, he moved on to the brothels. He first spent his money on only the best he could buy. Perhaps they would help him forget or replace that gaping hole left in his life, even if for a moment. When not being entertained by the courtesans, he was often at the local bar drinking and starting fights. When the establishment grew tired of his disruptions they kicked him out. This became the norm for him, moving from one place to the next in search of the next thing to keep his mind off of what he'd lost. When he grew bored of that or they grew tired of him, he moved on to something else. Eventually the Seeker ran out of money and could no longer afford such an extravagant lifestyle. The courtesans paid him less and less attention and the ownership of the various establishments tolerated him less and less. Soon, he was unable to afford the company of even the cheapest courtesans. Eventually the rest of his coinage soon disappeared and he was left to a life on the streets. Perhaps that was for the best. Many days of near-starvation had given him a chance for clarity. His life had been in shambles ever since she'd left. It wasn't until he found her that he'd realized he was nothing without her, and even now it was proven to be true. What had happened to his life? To their life? What had he done to cause her to leave him so abruptly? Even after so long, after all the women and the booze and the fights, he could still remember her scent and taste her on his lips. He'd once recalled telling someone that he would drown the world if it meant making her smile or keeping her safe. If that were truly the case, what was he doing now? Groveling, sad and alone on the side of the street. It is often said that when one hits the bottom, they've nowhere else to go but up. Whether Val was going up or further digging himself a hole was unknown, but he knew what he had to do. Throughout his travels, in the back of his mind he'd always hoped to run into her, perhaps to have another chance. He'd always been afraid of finding her with another, some other guy that had managed to win her heart and steal her away from him. What if she was no longer in Eorzea at all? What if she had abandoned him in order to go elsewhere, somewhere she thought he would be better off without her? It wasn't as if she hadn't already tried it once before. Plagued by a million 'What Ifs' and with nothing left to lose, Val picked himself up and left the city. ..After all, he would never know the answer if he never tried. The last sighting of the Miqo'te came from Gridania, noting a blonde-haired Seeker with a scar bisecting his right eye leaving toward the northern Shroud. Further inquiries say that he was seen crossing the border into Garlean territory. He was never heard from again.
-
"So.. that's th'whole thing wi' th'wolf tribe," the Seeker had finally ended after what was a thoroughly lengthy speech. He shifted uncomfortably on the couch. He'd never taken the time to tell someone about what had happened to him so long ago and, more importantly, what he did to put him where he was today. Now, here he was telling the one person he'd hoped would never find out for fear of losing her. That fear rose when she did not respond and, instead, stared down at the floor in silence. "I only started out that way though. You've changed me," he added almost desperately, "Yer somethin' I knew I wanted but 'til now I didn't know how much I really needed ya. S'cause'f you that I'm helpin' people an' ain' bein' all horrid an' shit like I was. ..An' now if I lost ya, Idunno what I'd do. I can't live without ya an' I ain' wanna put m'arms 'round no one but you. I just wanna be by ya an' hold ya an' love ya an' all that stuff. An', ah.. .. I guess that's why I'm all protective'f ya. S'cause yer this perfect thing t'me that I have an' I need ya an' I can't stand th'idea'f losin' ya. T'anythin'." "And you're certain I'm not just a replacement?" she questioned, her words barely above a whisper. "F'course I am! I ain' never loved no one. Didn't even know I could. Wasn't ever taught it t'be honest an' I thought everyone else here were bitches f'doin' it. Always thought it was pointless an', well.. then y'look at me wi' those beautiful eyes'f yers an' y'put yer arms 'round me an' y'kiss me an' y'smile. It.. makes me feel all weird. Idunno how t'describe it, but m'stomach feels all empty an' light an' stuff an' it feels like 'ow I felt th'first time I saw ya. That's.. what I always hear those dumbasses sayin' love is like, so, ah.. .. I know I love ya, Princess." He took the time to reach across and place his hand over hers, partially in order to appease her and mostly because he wanted to feel her touch. Faye allowed the motion, threading her fingers through his and tilting her head up to offer a gentle smile. "I love you, too, Val. Thank you for telling me all this. I, ah... I don't think differently of you because of it. The past is the past. The only part of who you used to be that matters is that it helped shape who you are today... which is the man I love dearly, my husband, my one and only." As she spoke, everything that Val had described came full circle. His heart melted and his stomach felt as empty as it had ever been. His hand squeezed hers and his eyes lit up. He leaned forward to rest his forehead to hers while his free hand lifted to brush across the pale skin of her cheek. "I'm only this 'cause you've allowed me t'be, Princess. Y'gave me th'chance when ain' no one else bothered t'care. Yer th'most precious damned thing in this world t'me, an' I'll kill every person in it if it means gettin' t'see ya one last time." "I'm not going anywhere, Val," she replied as she nuzzled the tip of her nose affectionately against his, a soft smile gracing her pink lips. "I'll be here, every day for you to wake up to." The two continued to nuzzle and whisper sweet nothings to one another, something that they'd certainly never be caught doing in public. Val of course would have always been afraid that it meant he was soft and weak, while Faye never considered such acts appropriate for public display. However different their views and mannerisms might have been, behind the closed doors of his office it was clear that the two were very much alike in private. Val would echo again his love for the noblewoman, and she the same for her ruffian. They would laugh, smile, tease, and continue to enjoy one of the few precious moments they had to be truly alone together.

As Faye has said and you have certainly echoed, creating a wiki is a good way to get yourself familiar with your own character and give you a handle on how you want to RP him or her. Just take it one step at a time. Dark plots take a while to get off the ground and it's hard to do them unless you find people that are willing to have things done to them and, sadly, those are very rare these days. Not just here, but across RP in general--especially if it isn't planned out. As Faye has also stated, I prefer to do free-flowing RP and it's really hard to just get that kind of interaction with someone that you aren't familiar with.
-
If you're looking to progress the story in a particular direction, perhaps you could ask the people on the forums if any of their characters would be interested in getting involved in the story. If the story itself just isn't panning out how you'd like it to, that's not necessarily a bad thing! It gives another way for your character to develop and character development is always super fun and entertaining! I've certainly been caught in these instances before. I've felt like the character I was writing simply wasn't interesting or no one really wanted to get involved with that character because, perhaps, he could be very boring whereas I find him thoroughly entertaining. I've also had nights where absolutely no one would respond to posts I've made and followed that up with several people asking to RP with me at once and I had nowhere near the time required to devote to any of them due to other things. As how to improve yourself, I'd say practice makes perfect! The only way to really get better at writing, from my personal perspective, is to do it more, do it often, and perhaps read other people's works to get new ideas and influences to develop your own "style" of writing. If you need some help better flourishing out ideas, feel free to drop them here or in a PM or something and I'd be more than happy to help you sort things out as much as I can! I'm not that great, but I'm certainly willing to offer you ideas and I'm sure there are many more in the community that are willing to do the same.

balmung LF RP With Consequences - Character Development
Val replied to Unnamed Mercenary's topic in Chronicled Connections
I could tell you that Faye and I both have characters that are Garlean, characters that hate Garleans, and characters that would be more than willing to further carry out the experiments on him. I at least would be willing to get involved and help you on any of those fronts if that's something you want to discuss more in private. Just hit me up in a message here if you're interested and maybe we can toss some ideas around -

Your Character's Weapons/Artifacts and How They Acquired Them
Val replied to Dat Oni's topic in Character Workshop
Val has a spear that he received while hired out by the IF and keeps it. They don't really realize that it was missing, what with them being mass produced and all. For daggers, he uses whatever he can find. That's.. pretty much it =x nothing fancily made and nothing specially named. Just weapons.
