Well yes, in that context then there would be a definite limitation. However, those jobs themselves are only limited to the crystals given if I'm not mistaken. None of my characters are the main character/group, so they'd never be able to receive one of those. But I believe Yangh is simply trying to ascertain whether or not the idea of RPing Blue Mage-like skills is feasible and accepted. Same goes for those that RP Dark Knight and Ninjas and other things. The job is just a name/class title that is given to game restrictions.
-
Arcanist magic /is/ unaspected, correct. But you're still letting the class restrictions dictate what the person/character themselves can and can't do. Why a person can't dabble a little in that of Arcanist and also in that of black magic, I still don't quite understand =)
-
But you're still letting the game and its mechanics dictate what you can and can't do, if I'm reading correctly. Why can't a "scholar" use white and black magic? Just because the class itself in the game is unable to do so doesn't mean that they can't. One could argue that some scholar spells are even black magic oriented, such as their drain ability and a couple of others.

I don't think so. I think it's ok as long as you keep things rather subdued. Does it really matter if someone said they were a thief? What's the difference between a thief and a rogue, semantics really. In the same way someone might say they're a tracker or a poacher instead of an archer. This, pretty much. What your character is labelled as really has little to do with how the lore follows. Val wields a lance, for example. He's far more proficient with daggers, but the lance is to catch people off guard and buy him time to figure out how his opponent fights. So long as you aren't strictly saying the background of the class as a whole (such as where the art was formed, where everyone studied, etc etc) then I don't think it really matters. As for skills, why limit oneself to simply in-game abilities so long as they aren't OP? If a Ninja wants to ninpo a fireball and it ends up not being in game, I don't care. The tools are all pretty much there in the world, and the trailer already showed them at least /using/ ninpo (or a form of it). As for how that actually /works/? Keep it simple enough so that you can change what needs to be changed. Same goes for Blue Mage imo. If they want to use the sword/dance stuff, I don't see why they can't and then later find some form/art/whatever that allows them to use it more (or less) proficiently as deemed by whatever lore may or may not be inside the game at a future date.

Agreed with this. Not only do I like the idea as a whole, but I also like that you've taken steps to balance it and make sure it doesn't become entirely OP and, on top of that, asked for a more community-accepted opinion. I like how it has come together and, while it has the potential to be very formidable indeed, it also has the potential to be thoroughly useless. Wonderful!

Val's fighting style is very much like Oberyn Martell. In fact, when I read the books, I /immediately/ thought that he very well fit Val's typical description and style, although Val mainly uses his lance for show and prefers to dual wield daggers. He does, however, prioritize speed and his ability to dodge over armor. Val fights dirty too, using whatever is around as a weapon if he thinks it'll help him gain the upper hand. He also acts a bit like Oberyn, minus the bisexual thing. If he wasn't so entirely homophobic, I could certainly see him being like that. He also isn't rich. He's more of a vagabond.

Ishgardians, Thank You for Helping with the Plot.
Val replied to Knight Kat's topic in RP Discussion
I have absolutely zero problems with waiting until a time is good for both yourself and plot to introduce Cyrus! At this point, he doesn't himself particularly know he's Ishgardian, which are some details I'd be more than happy to talk to you about in private if you wish. I'll answer your questions here though! 1.) Cyrus would have interest in protecting and helping /anyone/ in the world. If Ul'dah is in danger, it is his duty to try and save it. 2.) I was actually hoping we could get the Dravanian assassins involved at some point in order for him to learn about his heritage. 3.) I'm entirely fine with LS chatter RP. Cyrus /is/ an alt so I'm not really on him very often. I have been more active lately due to a lul of RP on Val and I'm trying to get him involved in more things =) -
It's... a rug, in the alleyway outside the Quicksand. He's got three of them?? I said a rug. So no. But you also said Miqo'te lady... Verad's manly enough to have three Miqo'te ladies, so I would just go ahead and say yeah. In fact, every dancing NPC you find is employed by Verad. They make his money on the side.

I've had to apologize after several RPs because of things going downright catastrophically and the other party being distraught. Don't break hearts, folks. Makes you feel like an asshole regardless of the context. I certainly try not to! Val will often go on rants in public about how much he dislikes something and often times that might be offensive for some. But.. it's the character, and I'll openly admit that he's a prick. It's what brings a certain amount of flavor to him. None of my other characters are nearly quite that offensive and, regardless, I do tend to get an ample amount of people telling me they enjoy the character =)

Ishgardians, Thank You for Helping with the Plot.

I would actually love to put Cyrus in there. His mother and father are Ishgardian exiles, though he is currently unaware of that. It'd be great for his story and to get him into something more plot-wise, if you'd have us both =) -
I play Crofte as the type of person I wish I was in life, I think. At the same time, the above statement is what I worry about most. Someone smack me if I become that. Echoing that. This is actually the like... fiftieth version of a "Warren Castille" I've ever played and the line blurs a bit between how he'd react and how I'd react. Comes with the territory, I think. Also want to clarify that I'm not like, angsting out at my computer or work or anything. Just been spending a lopsided amount of billable hours with my attention on fiction. Sounds like you're engaged in your plot more than anything else! It's good as long as the play continues to be fun! I have to agree with what Berrod said! I think it's okay to be caught up in the plot or engaged in such as manner as long as you're enjoying yourself, but I can certainly see how one could worry or become engaged. I've based Val's personality off of multiple things. He has my sarcasm and wit, a friend's boldness, another friend's brashness, and thrown in with some highly illogical fears, needs, and a nice dash of ignorance. This can throw him into some pretty hilarious situations and Val can be downright offensive. I often worry that people will either be annoyed by the character because of this (because he's meant to be humorous more than anything), or take his thoughts/views/whatever and assume they're mine. Early on, I would apologize to people before or after we RPed on Val's behalf so that they wouldn't continue to think this. Now I just sort of do the RP and hope people enjoy the character and try not to worry about it =)

I second the Verad and Aya. They would be the most preciounest thing.

Brainstorm for Episodic rp event ((Poll up for getting best of the week))
Val replied to Askier's topic in RP Discussion
I'm also very interested in a server-wide event, and it's precisely what I've been hoping could occur! If I can assist in any way at all, please feel free to let me know =) -
Within the town squares of Gridania, Limsa Lominsa, and Ul'dah are copies of the same flyer. These same flyers can also be seen in various locations of these cities such as the market board or along the sides of shops and buildings: Soldier for Hire In need of an extra sword arm? Is there a particular criminal on the loose that you wish brought to justice? Are you afraid that someone might try to steal your belongings, or do you simply wish for one to toil the fields while you go about your daily duties? Soldier, kind in heart and noble in virtue, willing to help in all matters no matter how trivial. Five years experience of being out on his own. Will NOT assist in anything considered morally reprehensible or unjust. Contact Cyrus Mulano for inquiries. ( If anyone wishes to hire Cyrus or get in contact with me, feel free to do so via the RPC or in game on Val Nunh or Cyrus. Thank you for your time! )

I'll have to agree with what Faye has said. While the RP I've found on Balmung is not always the quality I personally desire, it at least is there and open and you're almost always able to find it. To that end, we've also discussed at length and I thoroughly believe that the RP community, as a whole, is entirely too small to split for whatever reason. I played during the original days of Warcraft and, quite honestly, you couldn't go ANYWHERE in the world without finding SOMEONE doing public RP. People were walking down the streets, living in some of the houses, guard guilds were doing guard things and there was absolutely no shortage of villains willing to sacrifice themselves for villainy things, and some heroes too! This isn't necessarily a critique on the RP here as a whole, but it certainly isn't as large as it was then. This is in part due to the RP community being split between various games and interests and whatnot. However, splitting an already small and certainly dwindling community is not going to do anything but make it harder to find RP. As for Gilgamesh, I can't really say anything on the server as I've never rolled a character there. I do, however, find an increasing number of people I've met being either transfers or rerolled characters from there. Is Balmung better? Idunno, but I certainly enjoy the community it has thus far, however it may be.

I can assure you I am well versed filtering them out. But depending on how bad they irk me, I'm also fond of just ignoring them altogether so that I don't have to be bothered with more spam filling up my screen while I'm trying to read!
-
I, like many others here, just blacklist pretty much everyone. I may be a bit too liberal about handing them out. If I see someone with a blatant anime name--as in named after a character in an anime, I blacklist them. I do this because those characters are not part of this world, don't belong, and it can ruin any sort of immersion to see them trying to be played. Same if I see any pop culture exact/hybrid names and characters from games/movies/whatever.. If someone dances on my table, emote spams, whatever--blacklist. Then I just ignore their presence and forget about them entirely.
-
Val's would totally be Troy Baker. j6BGEcULuiE Melfice would be Liam O'Brien--one of his more passive voices. dFAyXI2HP9M ..I don't really have anyone in mind for Cyrus.
-
My Melfice is a book-type and would be more than happy to look into the drug itself, along with taking care of his own deeds and priorities. He likes investigating and finding out the what-ifs, whys, and hows to these kinds of things!

Heya! What server were you on in WoW and what side did you play? I was on both Silver Hand and, toward Lich King's release, Moon Guard. Alliance both times! I ask only because most people I seem to find that play it played after I left, so I was wondering if I might have ran into you before!
-
Pretty much this Two of the three characters I play are just ordinary people without any super depressing past or anything. They both have their faults and strengths and weaknesses, but nothing out of the ordinary. For me, realism is the best thing and I try to be as realistic within the confines of the lore as I possibly can be.

DENN I MISS YOU WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN WHY HAVEN'T WE DONE THINGS WHY DO WE NOT TALK WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN DOING WHERE HAS DENN BEEN WHERE HAS CICERO GONE WHY OH GOD WHAT PLEASE HELP I DON'T KNOW I MISS YOUR RP I MISS YOUR FUN LET'S DO STUFF SOMETIME PLZ Also I still have a Garlean that needs Garlemald love. ! Val! Im sorry I vanished for a few months. I dug an RP hole on all my characters and I sort of just walked away from it all >.> . Dais "died" in battle, Cicero was "killed", and Denn's life completely collapsed around her and she became alienated after her work with the Garleans got out so I had her retire to the mountains. But they are all back now :3. Round 2!! I read all of that but all I really understood was, "We need to do something soon."

Lost <3 I recently beat it myself and thought the game was pretty good, all things considered. It could have stood to be another four/five hours longer, I think. It also feels a bit like what you said: they just took elements from the first two games and hashed them together to make this one. That's fine to me. The game itself was still pretty fun to play overall and, if you're a fan of the last two, you'd probably be satisfied/fan of this one. There never really was a need to change powers either, also like you said. Each one sort of did their own thing and had their own play style and were powerful enough to work on their own. I'd have liked to see special enemy types that made you change, though. Like enemies that were heavily armored so you had to use the neon power to pinpoint shots, or enemies that you had no choice but to use the video power's stealth to take them down. Would have made it seem more versatile. ..In fact, I think I only just now noticed you fight the same four enemies the whole game.
