  1. In my honest opinion there's more role players on Balmung. I considered seriously transferring to Gilgamesh after a few bad encounters over the last six months since I started rping heavily but after creating an alt there and wandering about for a week on and off I didn't come across any rpers rping out in the open. Like any community you'll across bad apples. I elect to stick to my close circle of friend and others who I know are "safe" to rp with and won't bring me down with elitist attitudes or unnecessary OTT lore mongering. Surround yourself with positive, fun loving people and you'll be fine.
  2. Costs me 79 too, New Zealand/Australia prices. Cost me around the same price for digital collectors addition. Dat euro exchange rate. Still cheaper then buying the -normal- version in store though. GG Australia
  3. Really enjoying the versatility of the Astro plus the buffs. I'm a sucker for a healing type classes who do buffs. Definitely my new main healing class.
  4. Levelling Astologian with friends levelling their new classes.
  5. Ah, that's interesting. I was doing the Delivery Moogle Quests the other day and had to go to the outside of the Hermits Hovel but I thought it was inside. I ran inside only to be greeted by two naked female miqo'te, promptly did a lap around the cottage before leaving and realising the quest was actually outside the Hovel, not inside. It was quite amusing. Gave me a good laugh.
  6. It sounds like the poster in question needs to get better acquainted with rp in ffxiv and how it works. Clearly they aren't aware that most characters don't actually have the Echo when it comes to rp. I mean I'm not saying someone can't have their character have it but I don't see how Oskwell, a lancer from Ishgard, would be aware of what the echo is. It seems pretty reasonable to me for a character to assume another character is crazy when they start discussing the echo ect. Maybe someone could send them a heads up and inform them about the rpc and role playing in ffxiv and what's reasonable knowledge for characters to know?
  7. Is this still happing today? My friend is there and see's no one >> Edit: My friend went to the wrong house. Awkward. Kind thanks to Chao for responding to my tells.
  8. For the record, the difference is like 2% more parry damage reduction for 100 more Str, which is... not a lot, and it's not like you're parrying anywhere close to 100% of attacks anyway. On its own, yes, 2-3% is marginal. However, 2-3% is still greater mitigation than 0%, which is what VIT offers. But when looking at the grand total of STR benefits versus the grand total of VIT benefits, the difference is rather stark. -snip- I usually do the cleric stance dance fine. I only bothered to look at his gear when I noted a dramatic drop in hp at the beginning of when he stopped pulling after I put up my first set of buffs and I went to do my first aoe attack. He most likely wasn't using his cool downs in retrospect.
  9. WHY. Here is a mentality I will never understand. Here you are, a White Mage, with so many spells at your disposal. And you do not want, or want anyone else, to use half of them. Why? "Durrrr we have DPS skills so we can do solo MSQ stuff and that's it." WRONG. White Mages have one purpose, and one purpose only: MASS DESTRUCTION. Regen is just a bonus. Trust your healers to know when/how to DPS. No one likes a kid that stands there with their thumbs up their ass waiting for the tank to take damage. Everyone likes completing a dungeon 10-15 minutes ahead of schedule. Remember Sylphie, from the CNJ quest lines? Of course you do. At no point in those quests was Sylphie ever an example of what-to-do as a healer. This quote is no exception. It was our job as the Warrior of Light to show Sylphie how to heal properly, as well as, for lack of a better phrase: "fuck shit up." Does this quote not scream "ignorant snot-nosed brat" to you? Because it sure does to me. One day Sylphie will be running WP HM and she will have to make a choice - wait for the DRG and MNK she got paired with to finish off a mass pull and wait for her MP to drain as the tank gets crapped on waiting for the mobs to die? Or go manmode and blast their butts to the Seventh Hell with a few well-placed holys? DPSing as a healer is your job, whether you like it or not. Not that this is directed at you personally Lacey, but seriously all you heal-only healers out there, laziness is a sin. And if you're tanking and die because your healer was going HAM, well... at least it was for a good cause. /rant I have no problem with that. I main scholar on my alt so I'm happy to dps when I can but when a tank walks in with str gear it's time to take a step back and focus on healing until he's not taking that much damage. My problem is while I was leveling paladin I ran into a bunch of whm who only dpsed until I died...over and over and over >.< It's all about finding a good balance.
  10. For those who asked it was a War in pretty much all Strength Gear. He had a few Vit items but I'd think in a high level dungeon situation he's switch back to Vit gear. Anyroad, I just stopped dpsing and focused on healing cause that's my job and personally I hate it when Healers dps and don't bother healing till I'm almost dead (I run paladin on occasion). It just would have made my life easier if a tank whose meant to take heaps of damage would wear gear to boost his vitality. To my credit he didn't die once but it was just harder to keep him alive.
  11. I ran a level 50 dungeon with a tank in Strength gear instead of Vit last night. TThere wasn't a chance in hell I could help out with dps in that run. Tanking gear doesn't always make sense. I do agree as a tank your gear should be up to date because if the tank dies, whole parties can wipe. All I can in situations like that is to focus on healing the tank instead of dps. Healing is your first priority as a healer anyroad.
  12. Excuse my rambly excuse of a post and if it makes no sense (or I skip words). I've always loved anti-heroes so naturally creating an anti-heroine (which there really isn't enough positive representations of in the media IMO) was inevitable for me. I wanted to play a strong female character looking for redemptions for her past crimes. Playing an ex Garlean assassin who was shaped by the Empire into who she is, who is as much as a victim of them as any Eorzeans, seemed like an interesting character to play morality wise. In real life I have a passionate interest in history, especially British history, so taking real world historical concepts such as Imperialism and putting them into my character and how the Garlean Empire took over Doma and would have, essentially, according to my logic, used Shinobi in their Military seemed like a logical jump. The in game lore later backed up my backstory for Lacey with the release of 2.5 and Ninja in game which I was pleased about (no more lore arguing for me). The reasons I gave Lacey a healing factor are long and complex but I'll try to keep this simple. Firstly, genetic engineering and experimentation both in ffxiv and the final fantasy franchise isn't a new concept. It didn't seem like a far leap, especially since the Garlean Empire has Allagan Empire technology in use so why not their knowledge of genetic engineering? Why wouldn't a mad scientist decide to experiment on an abundance of recruits at the Garlean Empire's disposal? Thematically, I figure Lacey's mutation is due to both genetic and psychological factors. She was taken as a girl, after witnessing her father's public execution at the hand of (Native born) Garlean Nobles to a foreign country. She'd naturally want to "protect" herself. Secondly, in game Ninja's are the most vulnerable constitution wise. The Empire would naturally want to eradicate this weakness in their recruits. These were pretty much my thoughts when creating Lacey anyroad.
  13. Lacey was born in (un-named country) on the continent Ilsabard. She was taken by the Empire and conscripted when she was eight. She was sent to Doma to be trained as a ninja and assassin for the Empire and was also experimented on by a particularly cruel Garlean scientist and as such has a moderate healing factor. Yep.
  14. Ah, that makes sense. I guess since both clans are based in Othard there would be intermingling.
  15. noo--- just cause that one time you met her she was acting polite? Shes much to adventerious and conflict happy to be a Raen, tho her nickname as it is is due to her locking herself away from time to time, and enjoyment of small cozy places. She doesn't play by most rules, and only gave Gin a more dangerous pan to fight with... was cause it would be fun! You can be a nomadic fighty hunter/gatherer without being an a-hole after all. I think the point is as far as lore goes the Raen are from Doma and the Xaela roam the vast western steppe.
  16. Still playing around but I think I've settled on my Doman Au Ra.
  17. Personally I refuse to freeform fight with someone unless I've known them for a while and they don't seem like the type to godmode. I don't think I've ever actually done combat not using rollz/random outside of a personal plot I ran a few months ago with some close friends. Saying that I have a few friends who refuse to use the rollz/random system because it doesn't take into account their characters strengths/weaknesses which is a good point. Saying that, while I've be happy to do up some sort of character sheet to help make the combat system with another more fair I know most players don't feel the same way. It is a lot of effort.
  18. I like to have a huge plot driven arc for my character every three or so months. Aside from that I spend time helping others with their plots or just doing slice of life rp. I find if a character is constantly involved in a new plot every week it gets a bit...well..ott.
  19. I have to agree with Faye about the disliking the villainising of the "popular" people. As far as I can tell all the "popular" people generally organise events and are more extroverted role players who go about role playing with others in the community. As for the rp event that Hotaru mentioned, generally I keep personal story plots to group chat since, for the most part, I don't actively want to involve people or make people who want to involve themselves feel left out. My last major arc with Lacey involved some potentially lore bending/breaking events and I really had no interest in debating lore with a random role player who may walk up. For me, my "clique" is a group I feel comfortable role playing with. As an introverted person with trust issues, I don't feel comfortable interacting with a large amount of people or having them involved in my plots, especially with the constant lore arguing I've seen here and experienced in game. I'd rather have my role play be enjoyable and fun for everyone involved rather then spending hours debating lore. I don't know if other role players feel this way but I think other role players need to be mindful that some people aren't comfortable with huge social groups or don't take easily to strangers like myself.
  20. Lacey is a Garlean ninja. She's a pretty white girl. People didn't like it until lore backed me up saying the Garlean Empire has ninja's in its ranks and trained Garleans in the secrets of the shinobi. It's likely if there are Samurai in the Garlean Empire's ranks who did similar. That is if there are Samurai's in Doma, after all they haven't confirmed there is yet.
  21. I'm probably repeating the same point that's been posted by someone else here but since there is so little lore provided about Doma, Ilsabard ect I'm happy to any accept any reasonable variation/extension a character will come up with. Let's just face it, we role play to enjoy ourselves, not cater to other people's approval. If someone's a good role player and has an interesting character generally I'll role play with them. I really have no issue with people playing miqo'te or lalafell from Doma cause at this point we just don't know what races are there. Should someone wait however long for SE to finally provide more lore about races in Doma, Ilsabard before getting the approval of lore elitists to make their toon? Cause damn, that sounds boring and quite lengthy. I've personally made reasonable extension on lore with Lacey before and then SE backed me up completely with new lore about ninja's released in the next patch. Almost to the level that I swear they're monitoring my role play and making notes. >.> *whispers* They're watching.
  22. I legit have my ilvl as over 9000 on my search information.
  23. HVJGh51wR7k I feel like the music represents Lacey's background with the Garlean Empire and the trauma they inflicted on her. It has moments of quiet, bursting into loudness, much like her ninja class- silence and then sudden violence. Also the hard industrial sound represents the Empire in general really well in my opinion.
  24. This, please! One can dream... Yes, please. The housing market is ridiculous. I also want to be able to sell all these rare dyes on the market no one will buy from me.
  25. Hood headpieces for Ninja's and Bards. The ability for Bonded couples to actually share houses and possibly trade untradable gear. The ability to glamour gear from other classes. More dresses and skirts.
