  1. Whoops! I really should, lemme go back and fix that.
  2. Yes! This takes a lot of time though -- in terms of the in game skill, it's more like they're preparing to harness and unleash the power of their already accessible chakras! Thank you!

  4. Will answer this in a moment when I get back from a thing!
  5. I sincerely hope monks won't have an issue as they can have invigorate from lancers (from level twenty-two) and they get that level fifty-eight skill I'm drawing a blank on. I'm not sure about ninjas as I do not play one. Purification is the skill you're thinking of! Invigorate is usually enough, but if a monk is anticipating TP issues it's easy enough to charge up some chakra stacks and bust it out. Hell, with the meditation recast time reduction it's even easier now!
  6. Lol monks were underpowered? I do not remember this era. Well they were overshadowed by the pure suck that was old drg, but back when bard was too strong, rather than just nerf bard, they slightly nerfed them AND improved monk and I think drg was later but not sure now. Closer to 2.0. Even then I never really felt like I had trouble contributing as Monk, only that raid or instance strategy was heavily skewed towards ranged and that was a deliberate choice by parties. I see! Back then I never really compared, I just did my thing and watched stuff die, didn't really have a problem...but these buffs are nice, no complaints here!

  8. I don't think that's a requirement at all! The monk changes are really just polishing. Ninjas are still fine. The buffs to monk LOOK numerous, but most of them are for convenience. The greased lightning buff had to be listed three times because there's three tiers of it, etc. It just needed to be tweaked to be a bit more powerful at endgame, really! I'm willing to bed that ninjas are still fine. Their versatility is pretty handy, and they bring the slashing damage debuff in the event that the team has no warrior!
  9. Nope. Lame, I just made an alt too. Yeah, it was open for literally less than two minutes this time. I didn't even get a chance to make my usual sample alt.
  10. Lol @ monks having problems with TP I tried out Alex this morning after the patch and oh my glob those changes are amazing. I mean, I was 100% fine with how it was before (I tend to just adapt to how things are), but now it's like. THE CONVENIENCE. THE DAMAGE. URGHNGHNGH. SO GOOD. The reduction of the meditation cast time makes it super easy to recharge between packs of mobs, and in instances where you can't hit the boss now. Before it was a bit of a tight fit, but now it's a breeze. THAT MAKES ME HAPPY. That extra two seconds on greased lightning makes A HUGE DIFFERENCE. THAT DAMAGE BUFF THOUGH. INSTANTLY VISIBLE RESULTS. I won't argue if those buffs were needed or not because I have no idea but GODDAMN, I welcome them.
  11. Berrod is a monk, hands down, no ambiguity. He has practice with an axe, and was once rejected by the Roegadyn of Alabathia's spine because of his volatile temper. Since then he's learned to keep his anger in check, but has more or less abandoned his pursuits with axe wielding. Monkery earns him gil through adventuring; he also runs a Free Company and teaches weekly classes in the Pugilist's guild.
  12. Yay! Gotten some whispers and skype messages on people who are looking forward to how this event won't just be carnage... :? ... and will be coming by! I'll be bugging all of these lovely speakers to friend them (was my real plan all along) and touch base on what their plans are to make it all flow well. I'll work on Berrod's presentation this weekend and run it by you to make sure it isn't too much/too preachy!
  13. Yes, I will admit that I bit off more than I could chew when it came to the initial phrasing. And while I can see from your perspective and I think intelligence can easily be improved, I still think a character is more defined by how others perceive them, not how the player itself intends to play them. To some, my character is highly intelligent, to others, she's a cowardly idiot who hides behind others like a mouse. If someone icly or oocily thinks my character is stupid, I will not scoff at them and say "BUT SHE'S A GENIUS." At best, I'll ask them why and improve based on their criticism. You cannot force others to think your character is funny or witty because they are highly subjective and flexible concepts, but if nobody ever laughs at your jokes and you get angry because of that, it's your problem. You're not improving. People are too sensitive about criticism. I get annoyed at roleplayers who claim their characters are highly intelligent, and then proceed to do stupid things expecting no-one to rise an eyebrow. I phrased things incorrectly and presented myself as a judge for intelligence-Something I am not. I am, however, someone who gets deeply annoyed when there's a huge IC/OOC dissonance when it comes to the perception of a character. Might be time for a change of the question in the OP/topic then! Phrase it as clearly as you can and it might be that you find some more agreement.
  14. Oh! Oh don't worry about it, there's no problem. I was just really unsure and seeking to clarify.
  15. Your post got me thinking about it, but suppose the elementals really didn't have anything to do with flooding the world, and they just took credit for the act to better establish their power? It's not unlike something a terrorist organization would do. Oh I think it's pretty established that they did! I was just too lazy to find the source. >.< All in game lore text on the subject of Amdapor has already been provided for discussion use in this earlier post. If there are texts I have missed (short of quoting the entire 1.0 whm questline, which Im considering...) please lemme know and I will add it to the compilation. Curious, but how much of the white mage lore comes from in-game books/texts or word of mouth? It seems like a lot of it is more word of mouth (in context of the game) then say... established by something. For example the Lamia assumption from Sastash HM that is misinformation vs Lamia being examples of manufactured weapons by the Allagan. How much -could- be "deliberate misinformation" by the devs? *Puts on tin foil hat* They're withholding information because of critical story points in the next expansion that features white magic and elementals. They elementals get mad and flood the world again. NEW FEATURE! UNDERWATER ZONES AND COMBAT! Ala Mhigo pushed back to 5.0
  16. Your post got me thinking about it, but suppose the elementals really didn't have anything to do with flooding the world, and they just took credit for the act to better establish their power? It's not unlike something a terrorist organization would do. So we're equating sentient wind chimes with terrorist organizations now? Just to be clear, people keep treating what are effectively sentient immortal tornadoes as of they should have human morals, human values, and human motivations. Guys. Seriously. They're sentient immortal tornadoes. When a tornado hits your house, it's not being malicious. It's not being a dick. It's being a tornado. You were just in the way. People keep attributing these byzantine plots and motivations to the elementals, and seem to refuse to acknowledge that we're dealing with completely inhuman demigods. It reminds me of some of the Furies in Forgotten Realms, but I digress. A certain lore kitty pointed out to me last night that the Elementals have existed at least 10000 years, and during that time have watched mankind repeatedly come within inches of destroying the world. But people expect them to just trust us, because, hey, we're different! Right. I'm sure no one's ever told them that before. And further, while we're talking about how the elementals "stole" White Magic, let's shed a tear for those poor bastards on other continents who had to die because the Amdapori couldn't stop coming up with new and innovative ways to blow each other up. Cuz Eorzea wasn't the only place that flooded, y'all. This rant has been brought to you by Android, Gmail, and my lack of caffeine. <3 I'm nooooot sure where all this is coming from, but my post was intended to point out the poor composition of one of the more crucial passages in the whole issue. I believe what the person responding to my post is saying is that -- some bad mages may have flooded the world and then the elementals took credit for it. The flood. Not white magic. I replied that I believe that it was in fact the elementals who caused the flood. Neither of us mentioned anything about the elementals stealing white magic, the guy was literally tin foil hatting -- which can be fun in a discussion, if not inaccurate. I'll say again, for the point of contention regarding whether white magic was gifted to/discovered by/created by the Amdapori, the quote from Raya-O is composed in a way that makes it unclear. Therefore, I remain unsure and leave myself open to all possibilities until the lore team clarifies. Please clarify, lore team!
  17. I confess that the picture in Edda's post made me burst out laughing in my office.

  19. "The people of Amdapor felt this power was too great to be allowed to go unchecked, and so it was that white magic - the magic of healing and solace - was born. " There is gravity in that line. It STRONGLY IMPLIES, due to no mention of the elementals in it, that it was the people that developed/discovered it. NOW -- I don't know. I have no idea. I have no clue. But for my own unbiased reading comprehension, that's what I see, and probably what a lot of others see. The thing is, it's...badly composed. Later on, when the passage mentioned the flood ("So did the hubris of the magi bring forth the Sixth Umbral Era... and with it a mighty flood that swept away entire civilizations, leaving naught but ruin and suffering in its wake. "), there's no mention of the elementals THERE either -- and if I'm not mistaken, it was the elementals who caused this flood. Further down, the passage mentions the elementals outright, and continues to do so ("The Elementals of the forest, knowing that men could not be trusted to keep such vows, took action as well."). That's where my uncertainty comes from. Is the lack of mention of the elementals in that first given line because of bad composition/establishment, or is it on purpose because the elementals were not actually the ones who 'gifted' the magic? It's a bit frustrating! As it is, it seeeeems to me that the Amdapori discovered it, abused it, got wiped out for it, and the intervening elementals withheld what knowledge there was of it to distribute to those they chose/deemed worthy. But yeah, I dunno. I really don't, and I'd love for the lore team to clarify if they can.
  20. "Vitala. Here you must gather your anger. Here you must gather your resentment toward all those in this world who have wronged you. All you have done is your best, and all your life, this world has sought to strike you down. No one is exempt save your self. You are not to blame. They are. And so, gather this fury into your thighs, and unlock the seat of power that lies there. Let it guide your legs and arms to lay your enemies low. Take vengeance for the havoc that they have wrought upon your livelihood. Do so in the name of your blameless place in this world. You have your orders, Gerdtrid. Carry them out." "Yes, Master."

  22. I changed it to "Witty" though this also applies to "Genius" characters so many people love to RP. And I do mean dumb, not slow. Dumb. Stupid. Not smart. Someone intellectually challenged. Someone who even if they take five minutes to respond, no matter how great they are, their responses are hardly intelligent or thoughtful. I know far too many characters that their players OOC tell me they are "geniuses" only to find out they are acting like bumbling fools when they are put to the test, simply because the role-player is lacking in mental faculties. Characters who act irrational and emotional when their players claim they are the ultimate scientists who are oh-so-cold and calculating. I have a hard time believing this can be quantified via your own experiences with players of lesser wit than their characters. I have roleplayed with people who are quite slow of wit -- but they see witty characters on TV or have read them in books, and use what they've seen to produce a properly convincing performance that fits their narrative well. If you want to attribute it to the player's WRITING or their ability to pull from what resources and references they have available...that I can understand. The answer remains though, yeah, a less mentally proficient/witty player is capable of portraying someone with wit -- regardless of your handful of experiences. It's not something that is impossible. If the less mentally proficient/witty player can write something good enough, or even get HELP from someone to write something good enough, that is literally all they need. Of course, this all depends on the subjective view of what is 'dumb'. Immaturity, inexperience, a slower pace of learning can all be presented as 'dumb' by an impatient enough and judgmental enough observer. Something that many of us roleplayers at times tend to be, myself included.
