Policy change: Sales of art for gil forbidden
Berrod Armstrong replied to FreelanceWizard's topic in FFXIV News
But Melodia! If someone wants to give you some free art, and at some point, you wish to give them some free gil -- all very quietly, of course...I don't think you have to spend any real money at all! -
It always flatters me when someone from the RPC approaches me to roleplay when I pop into the Quicksand or a similarly public location. When I get that 'HI, ARE YOU IC?' whisper, I would just be like /THROWS OFF DUNGEON QUEUE /FORGETS WHAT HE WAS RUNNING TO BUY AT THE MARKET BOARD /DITCHES THAT HAIRCUT IDEA "SURE YES GOOD" Folks are awesome.

Your guess is as good as mine. My personal hope is that eventually SE will release lore or a questline or something about the Gelmorrans and the Duskwight and explain some of the intricacies of the Pact of Gelmorra. But honestly, it looks like the lore team is trying to sweep most of Gridanian history under the rug. (Maybe there's a Gridanian Arbiters of Truth league trying to hush up Gelmorra LOL) Like... in 2.0 there's no mention of Wildlings. Only very scant mentions of Woodsin, and I think Greenwrath is only brought up like twice. Once in the MSQ dealing with the Ala Mhigans in Quarrymill and once in the WHM questline. And you never see an Elemental anymore. There's the whole "Elementals were weakened in the Calamity" deal, which is understandable, since they are beings of the planet's aether... but jeez, they've been around since Creation, you'd think they could handle themselves since this is definitely not the planet's first Calamity. (Is it obvious I don't like 2.0's decimation of lore?) I'm hoping that they're just obscuring it/holding on tight to use as the focus of a patch/expansion.

The Vent Tent - Poor PuGs and Other Terrible Tales
Berrod Armstrong replied to Gegenji's topic in FFXIV Discussion
To that tank on Midgardsormr who kept playing spin-the-dragon far more than it was necessary to dodge the AoEs. I was trying to play along and keep up, but we can't click the damn garlean shield thing if you keep POINTING DRAGON ATTACKS AT US. It's cool that you left and called us scrubs. I mean, we only one-shot it with the next tank. THANK YOU HERO TANK, FOR TURNING THE DRAGONS ONLY WHEN NECESSARY, AND LEADING IT AWAY FROM US WHILE WE DOWNED THE ADD AND CLICKED THE THING. -
This thread makes me want to roll a trembly, wimpy cop (Blade? Yellowjacket? Wailer?) who bursts into tears two sentences into confrontation (and maybe runs away or retreats into a corner). I'll find a way to name him Phillip. I don't even know why. I'll totally make him a big dude, too. Real tough looking. /SLAPS SELF ALTITIS STAND DOWN.

Looking to brawl in The Quicksand!
Berrod Armstrong replied to Branson Thorne's topic in Chronicled Connections
But when things settle down would you also love to be arrested for disorderly conduct for a day and fined a few hundred gil? This is the biggest contention with people wanting to involve those who play law enforcement. They mostly expect to walk away scot-free once things are finished. It is why I try to keep things from turning violent inside the walls, and push people outside so they can beat each other senseless without me having to actually -be- the police. This, 100%, and exactly. If you want to have a brawl as part of an open RP area, and not as a privately conducted scenario, but refuse to accept harsh IC consequences, you have no right to expect the player base to respect you. "Tavern RP" may be boring to many, but refusing to respect that some people do want it, and have a place for it, is a bigger crime than boredom. ^ This. This, this this. Respect the setting, respect the circumstances, respect the consequences, and respect the players. On another note, if something DOES go down and consequences loom, try playing them out! Having your character get arrested or fined can branch into more interesting avenues, and serve as wonderful background later down the road. Maybe he/she can't get that job down the line because he brawled in Momodi's place, maybe he's got a bad rep with the Blades now and they're always stink-eyeing him (behind those masks, anyway...). I often find that a lot of people try to start things in taverns because they are 'bored', then refuse to take things past there by sealing off those events in a bubble devoid of consequence. Try playing out the consequences, and you may fight yourself bored less often! (General 'you' here, to clarify). -
The IC/OOC boundary and how to approach it the SMILE way
Berrod Armstrong replied to g0ne's topic in RP Discussion
Its just a pet peeve of mine. Players that use the term 'mature' but seek rp of a sexual nature almost exclusively are trashy in my opinion. Its like a prostitute calling themselves an escort to make what they do seem legitimate. (I was supposed to go to bed hours ago, I apologize if this response is unclear.) Juuuuuuust as an aside, that statement is a bit uh. Well, offensive. Escorts/sex workers in general are legitimate in areas where they are legal. The career is no less legitimate than any other, as it's up to the worker to decide what they do with their bodies. This is speaking as someone who has willingly worked in the sex industry. That's all well and good, but we're talking pretend prostitutes played by creepy guys on the internet, not real sex workers. Which is why I'd prefer the comparison not be made. -

Consent, respect, differentiation, intent, control, discretion and communication; a player who recognizes and utilizes all these things is all set to roleplay WHATEVER the hell they want. -

Berrod Armstrong replied to g0ne's topic in RP Discussion
I gotcha. Was mostly wanting to dismantle the "you look trashy" side of things. There's a difference between "I'm open to sexual content" and "fill my boihole with billions of cat seeds." ...you know what? Not editing that. COME AT ME, MODS. Edit: I lied. Again, not saying there's anything wrong with the second case. It's definitely a lot cruder than "I fuck on the first date" though. Oh man, I had a witty answer to whatever was replied, but I underestimated the clever use of "boihole" and "cat seed" haha. I was serious and indignant a few posts ago and now I'm guffawing like some kind of tool. Warren I can't stand you I just think you should know this omg my sides -

If someone wants to label sexual roleplay as 'mature', there's absolutely nothing wrong with that, so long as they clarify what they mean when communication opens. I understand that it might be a pet peeve of yours, but it's not really any reason to rag on some people's careers because of it. On the topic at hand regarding that sort of player -- if that's what they are seeking, and it's what they are communicating they are seeking, that's actually not bad (barring the actual content they wish to explore). They have their OOC intent, and they are stating it prior to opening roleplay with another person; who, because of the communication involved, will need to consent. At that point they are both responsible for what goes on in their little bubble, and it's none of our business. -
Balmung is still open. Get it while it's good, folks.

Oh! I have a character who I refer to as a 'retainer'. Granted, he IS a conjurer, but that never really comes into play so much as his gopher man-friday services. RETAINER BEST SUPPORT CLASS. BAG SPACE BUFFS FOR ALL. -

While I openly and frequently refer to Berrod as a monk, there were times when I'd call him a brawler. It seemed to fit quite well at the time. -
I tend to age my characters up based on patch/expansion time bubbles. The next time I review Berrod's age will likely be at Heavensward, given that some mention of the year is made. For example, I started him as 23 in ARR, and he'll remain 23 until there's something that says 'x' years have passed since blah blah, or 'the year is now 15XX'. If this ever poses a danger of clashing with people who use other aging methods, I resort to something vague such as 'the young adult'.
