I do think we need different gun laws, but we already have stricter laws than we had 100 years ago. 90 years ago you could go buy a thompson submachine gun and a 50 round drum out of a fucking catalog lol. I think in this specific case, political polarization is a bigger issue than gun control. The guy (from what I read) was a security contractor, and would likely still have his guns with anything other than an outright ban. However if he had been told that gay people aren't full of sin... who knows? There are lots of people who quietly or openly refer to us as perverts or degenerates, or no better than pedophiles. Some people hear that, and take action. All I can ask is that you do more than simply not spread bigotry. If you hear someone say it, challenge them. Refuse to associate with them. Don't allow words of hate to be spoken without fighting back. As long as the silent majority stays silent, the culture won't change.

I honestly like the way the story is written long term in FFXIV, though in the short term pacing can be a problem. In most MMOs, the expansions and the story are incredibly episodic. Every expansion has the bad dude of the year, and then you kill them and figure out who the next bad dude is. FFXIV drops the fact that there is an ultimate foe (possibly, who knows if we're being shown the truth) and sprinkles that along the whole time. As for the Ishgard plot, I think it will go on the backburner some, unless SUPRISE NIDHOGG ROUND 3, THE ULTRA FINAL STEPS OF FAITH.

To me heavy RP is stupid, because it ignores the whole point of fiction, which is essentially to be more impactful or interesting than real life. When is the last time you've seen a book or movie that literally covers every moment of a person's life. From taking a crap to heating up their waffles? The advantage of fiction is you can cut out all of that and focus on the good bits. Too much immersion makes it as boring as real life
