Captain Himalspyr dead in failed escape attempt
Alothia replied to Dogberry's topic in Tonberry's Lantern (IC)
Alothia takes the paper from the boy handing them out and stops dead in her tracks as she reads the headline. "Dead? He thought he was Leviathan!?" She furrows her brow and reads over the article a second time, and then a third. Tucking the paper under her armpit, she looks around before jogging off toward the exit of the city. She had to tell the others. Something didn't smell right. -
The Vent Tent - Poor PuGs and Other Terrible Tales
Alothia replied to Gegenji's topic in FFXIV Discussion
So, I'm frustrated because someone whom I thought was gone has come back and it worries me. I had a hard time falling asleep last night because of it. It just makes me uncomfortable and anxious and nervous. I hate feeling like I'm going to have to hide to avoid said person. On the bright side, I have a great FC of people who understand my struggles and are really supportive of keeping me safe and sane. -
These are really cool. Unfortunately, I don't know enough about MTG to be able to make one for myself. But I really like seeing them.

These are awesome! Keep 'em coming!!

So here are my evolutions of Aly:

Welcome! The Linkshell hall is a great place to see what linkshells and FCs are available, and the making connections forum is the place to meet people to RP with. If you ever wanna hit me up in game, I'm always happy to meet new people! If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask!!
-
So, I know a bunch of you guys are going through some stuff today. Know that I love you all. I hope that you all get through it. If you need anything, let me know. I'm always here to talk.
-
Yeah, there's a contingent of us that use it, but not everyone does. It's a nice resource if you want to put the time into it though!
-
I'd say take a look at some of the guides in the Welcome forum. They should be stickied at the top. Then, figure out a little bit about your character. Basic personality, some interesting tidbits. Then you can put feelers out there and see if any of the linkshells/free companies strike your fancy. Try and set up some small RP interactions and then jump in! Hope to see you around Balmung when you transfer! If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask! We're a generally helpful bunch!

And with that, I'm closing this down.

Alright, I've held my peace until I calmed down, and now I feel sufficiently well rested to respond to this thread as a whole. Not everyone is going to like all the rules all the time. It's a fact of life. Does that mean you don't have to uphold them? No. Does that mean we can't discuss them in a peaceful manner? Also no. But raging in a thread that uses a title that is hyperbolic and incendiary is not discussion. It's rabble rousing. If I remember correctly, there is a thread that is specifically for discussion of the rules. I think that the majority of what is being said there could have been said there. In the first post, the warning that is in question was given by me. Before I gave the warning, I checked with the two other mods that happened to be online to see if I was correct in giving the warning. While the thread was in the Off-Topic forum, it seemed to be of a fairly serious nature. People were contributing to the thread in an insightful and well thought out manner. While I appreciated the humor in Edda's post, it didn't fit with the spirit of the thread, I felt. Again, this is why I tried to get consensus from the other moderators before taking any action. Both moderators online agreed with my assessment, and I went forward with the warning. My justification was that, although it was funny, it did try to derail the thread somewhat. No one is saying that you can't post pictures at all in threads. But it didn't add anything to the discussion other than a haha. If the picture and comment had been followed by something that contributed to the thread as a whole, I would have taken no issue with it. I think that that's the line that we're trying to fall on. Sure, there are some threads where just a picture is warranted, like the ones specifically labeled as picture/gif threads. There is a tendency for people to go off onto tangents of image/meme/gif postings, and so I was trying to keep that from happening. I'm not as verbose in explaining things as Melkire is, so forgive me if this comes off as disjointed. I'm doing what I can. There is going to be times when people don't think things are fair. I get that. Again, raising a hubbub over it isn't the way to get your voice heard. In general, I think we're more likely to hear out a well thought out post that is sent to us in PMs than an entire thread to calling us a "police state." I think that goes for most people. As far as the number of warnings that it takes to get a permaban, I'm in the camp that says that perhaps what we've set is even too much. How many chances does it take to understand what is expected? I don't want this to be a place where anyone can say whatever they want with no expected consequences. There's a reason I love this website and this community as a whole. We're not like some of the other RP sites for other games. We've always had a higher standard for our members. I don't think that it's a bad thing. And we can agree to disagree on that point. I'd rather have a place with some semblance of order than chaos. There's a reason I avoid places like 4chan. Again, some people don't like that. You're entitled to your opinion. Many people in this thread have left valid concerns, and it's something that we as a mod team are taking into consideration. We're trying to clarify the rules so that everyone can be consistent: mods and non mods alike. You're going to make mistakes. We're going to make mistakes. We're only human. I will reiterate...if you're feeling angry or emotional, take a step away from the keyboard. I've had to do it before. I had to do it last night. I don't have much else to say on the subject. I just wanted to get my thoughts down before I lost it all. This is a great community with a great player base. I'd like to see us come together to figure this all out together. But I can't make people stay if they dislike how things are done. I can only say that we'll try and work with suggestions and we'll take thoughts into consideration. But we can't listen to everyone. Keep that in mind. Someone is going to end up unhappy, and as much as it sucks, it's the truth of the matter. Happy journeys in Eorzea and here on the RPC. I'll probably go quiet for the rest of the day, but I'll be keeping tabs on stuff. If you need me, you know how to get a hold of me.

I don't think the shit needs saying like that, though. Sure, you may feel slighted by someone, but feeling the need to go and make ten bazillion tumblr posts talking about it. I don't know. It's one thing if it's sexual harassment. It's another if someone is just kinda a jerk. Like, warn people on an individual basis. But that's just my take on it all. I've seen a lot of both, and really, the only one I can get behind is if it's someone who is sexually harassing and preying on people. Not just general asshattery.

Let people talk, it shows more about them than it does about you. Don't let it get you riled up. Because anyone worth their salt isn't going to listen to what other people say. It's a damned shame that that's how the world works. I try and tell my students that people continue to talk no matter how old they are. You like to think that at some point people grow out of the need to talk about others, but they never do. Better to let them talk and move on than waste your time worrying about what other people say about you.

I'm sorry I've been such a flake. There are so many times where I want to RP with people, but then for one reason or another I just don't feel up to it in the moment. I know that being pregnant is really no excuse, but it's been affecting me online as well as IRL. A lot of times I just don't want to do anything. I've basically turned into a bum. And I apologize if ever offended any of you for any reason. I try my darndest to be the kind of person I'd like others to be to me. I know that I sometimes fall short, but I do try.

You mean Cass is an individual? She's attached to Nebbs so much, I thought they were Siamese twins. Twincest is wincest? And Chachan...with all those muscles, he must be overcompensating for something.

You ever hear of throwing a hot dog down a hallway? Yeah, that's Mel.

So Brom is back. Apparently he hired the lalafell to impersonate himself, and I didn't notice. I failed some 'test' of his...whatever it was. Brom is a strange one, he is. He's currently going steady with M'aiku. It is good to see a softer side of him. I haven't seen that in him since Adriel, and even then it wasn't like it is now. She's good for him. M'hatya was put in the middle of it all. She's got so much to deal with with being injured, M'aiku, and Shiloh. She's been helping me with paperwork on top of it all. I am glad that she is my friend. I hope that she will continue to come to me to talk about whatever is troubling her. Speaking of troubled people, Lily is quite troubled with recent events in Ul'dah. She tries to be so strong, and when something tumbles her, it is quite a something. I haven't seen her in quite a few suns...I hope that she is doing well. Work has been busy. Well, yesterday was busy. Trying to get people out of the house and working on the contracts has been like pulling teeth. I had to lock up the liquor in the cabinet to motivate some people. Ran into a few bumps along the road, but we've also got some leads. Hopefully I can compile a sufficient report before it is due. After visiting the Ixal camp, Ky and I went to the Bobbing Cork. He's a nice young man. I should try to find him a suitable woman. He deserves someone who is going to be good to him. While there, I was filled with quite a sense of nostalgia. It brought back memories of the time that we lived there...Eric, myself, Kanko...I remember Corvus working from there, the time we spent on the porch outside, before the world seemed to fall apart on me again. It is...hard to think about that time. The people, the things we once did. While Jutat is the same...it is different. Not a bad thing. Just different. It serves to remind me that even though time goes on, there are some things that stick with you. Work on the clinic has been going well. We've set up most of the cots and the rooms. We still have to stock the cabinet with supplies...soon enough we'll be able to take care of everyone in our care that needs it. It is nice to see that Khale has something to work for again. Twelve, I love him. I love all of them. Each and every one. The emptiness that filled me once has been replaced with the people I see every day. We are growing, and so is my heart. I thank the Twelve every sun.

So, this was an IC poem that I wrote, but I'm still fond of it. It parts the waters Sending her waves crashing down The tempest swarm Quelled easily Simple supplication Singing songs to the Sirens. Her mercy lies in Carrying you away The swiftest deaths Are often ones most pleasant. La petit mort. The beautiful death. Waves upon waves The shoreline meets the sea. His hardened presence Seeking to calm her fury. And so we crash. And so I drown. And so we go. You are my tidal lord. And I the nymph. Before long We will have lost control. So let the waves rise up. Let the tsunami fall. In the wonderful The water The blue of your Cerulean oceans.
