balmung [Edit] Seeking RP desperately.
Ashe replied to Anthony Valron's topic in Chronicled Connections
I'm at work now! I am US pacific time. Uuuuh, I'll pm you on the forums in a bit and we can talk? Or I'll send you a tell tonight. ....I had 3 shots of espresso this morning and am full of energy while throwing manga around my desk....too much excitement /falls over -
I play by the rule that if you haven't seen it in the MSQ or in the towns around you, it probably doesn't exist...There should be no miqo'te in Ishgard as Ishgardian citizens. Like...period. There are no non-outside people in Ishgard who are Miqo'te. At all. The knowledge CAN be imparted but if you're a miqo'te or Au Ra you need the Holy See to recognize your achievements which, as an outsider, it's like 1) why would you ICly care and 2) why would the Holy See care. You can have all the power and knowledge but if the people it matters to will most likely not recognize it then what's the point. The whole non-Elezen/Hyur Dragoons thing IS mental in my opinion but people CAN go for it. Ahhhh~ This is my favorite can of worms for a reason~ ....Next to the WHM/BLM one. That's my second favorite can of worms.

balmung [Edit] Seeking RP desperately.

Omg this would totally work for Asheloux and Mythril Wings it's scary. He is part of a noble house associated with Fortemps. It'd be great if you could totally betray us and try to wreck our FC at the same time. Just saying. Hit me up. -
Haha nice nice! The non-Ishgardian dragoons argument is my favorite can of worms to open. That being said, I love Ishgard lore (and Allagan lore)...if you ever want to RP or have questions let me know xPP
-
I've seen a lot of fake DRGs and it's worked. My character is not a dragoon...he's Ishgardian and will question you. But he's also a paranoid nutcase >> I know people OOCly get mad about IC questions (which I've seen) or even get offended by this topic in OOC discussions so... I donno, I always RP based around what I see within the world given to me. If I don't see NPCs somewhere then I will use that as a hint. I'm always iffy about bending the lore...the one time I did it, it was confirmed as something in 3.0 (Ashe's aether sight in one eye and how it physically affects him when he uses it, etc.) So yeah, just be prepared for that but it's not impossible!!! Ishgardians and dragoons are cool crazy butts in general.
-
I said it's possible. But unlikely and a lot of people do it and wonder why characters interact with them and they are ICly questioned, etc. ......Anyone in the Ishgard RP LS who was on that one time will know the conversation I'm referring to but it really isn't a "follow your dreams and they will come true" thing....
-
Also....non-Elezen Dragoons are rare. Hyurs are possible. But don't go making any Au Ra Dragoons or Miqo'te Dragoons without a bit of backlash. You also have to be trained by a regular dragoon and you have to be recognized by the Holy See and for a city known for just straight up killing Au Ra on sight in the past, you won't be met with open arms as one now still probably... Also, there is only one Azure Dragoon. So don't be that haha. Everyone else has got it down. .... You CAN be a non-Elezen/Hyur Non-Ishgardian Dragoon I GUESS.......but like....Don't do it if you're not willing to be questioned about it ICly and OOCly >>

There's actually quite a bit in-game for Raen examples. The three Raen that are introduced in the story are from ninja clans and/or high ranking members of society in Doma. The 50-60 ninja quests give a lot for Raen...Xaela are the ones lacking in my opinion. In general, the Raen are not trusting of Shinobi as their land was was betrayed to Garleans by Gekkai (and Karasu kinda). Not all Raen have left Doma as the princess and her servant who came to Eorzea for the 50-60 ninja quest were searching for stollen relics and were going to go back. For in-game examples (which is how I learn best) I suggest going through that questline. The ninjas teach you A LOT about Doma.

The Vent Tent - Poor PuGs and Other Terrible Tales

That time I rolled a 1... I was just...nope. Plus for the springs in floor 3, it's like, 1-2 lenses/cranks and then only one spring >.< That Au Ra....I invested so much gil into her for the 110 NIN/ROG top plus all of the gear 1-60. She's also 50 on SMN/SCH and I leveled Ninja AFTER the SMN/SCH was 50. Like...she's no normal. So much gil. So much gear. So many bad groups >.< -
Yeah, I feel like I was unclear about just how much work I had put into her already. She's level 60...got through 2.x and HW on her in about 2.5 weeks and it would've been faster if I didn't end up in the hospital in the middle of it. I've RPd on her a bit. I have ideas with how to fix her personality a bit after talking about it...but I would like to RP with her outside of my FC...which is asking a lot since 1) I am shy about that and 2) I've tried to make those connection making posts here and they have been ignored. Sooooo yeah haha.

Can "Alex Normal" just be a thing in general haha? Trust me, it's bad for DPS who do know what their doing and then it's those one or two people who don't and then just conveniently don't say anything like "oh, it'll work out" that screw over the ones who do and then everyone gets mad and then it all goes to hell then vote abandon and then.../lies down I have to admit...I've never really encountered any problems aside from my awful rolls in the rest of Alexander. I lost count of how many gordian shaft rolls I failed to win this week before I finally rolled a 99 and managed to win one! Hooray! At least it'll save me a daily EX or two, I suppose! *twitch* But I CAN understand the DPS feeling. I play MCH on Korin (don't hate meee) and it's just cringey to see your fellow DPS failing to pick up mechanics. In one of my A4 runs I had the most vile bard...Who kept dancing around while the lasers were targetting him, getting himself killed, complaining that no one helped him, and then proceeding to whine at me for promoting my bishop instead of my rook because he needed TP - And shouting at the healers for running out of MP too fast... Pfffffft...Gee, I wonder how the healers could gain their MP back... /sarcasm Bards are funny too. Many don't know how to use their songs. I am one of those bards hence why I don't actually use it EVER. I know I suck at Bard and I leveled it to 50 for the fancy gear for RP...and after that I was like "Man, I suck." and stopped. But hey, at least I had the common sense to know I sucked.... My rolls this week for the springs >.< ARGH. Got 1, 2, and 4 drops first day and took all week for floor 3. I did the asshole thing by taking people I knew who didn't need the drops to sit out the rolls and pressure people to leave >> Yup. I was an ass. But I was an a desperate ass .>< -
I'll try to get in contact with you in game. But yeah...It's more like the man who was training her to fight and learn the art of espionage betrayed the tribe to not only the Kharlu but also was found selling information about the tribes in the region to the Garleans and he intentionally framed her as part of that endeavor. It was also no secret to anyone who knew her that she was in love with him so no one really believed her when she said she had no part in it. He escaped to Eorzea to head North to Ala Mhigo where he was supposed to seek refuge with the Empire and she figured if she brought back his head she would be accepted back into the tribe. Of course, Garleans being Garleans, he was killed at the Castrum in Eastern La Noscea where he was to head North from and she found out and kinda lost it. Her company mates (which she is only apart of because she tried to steal from them and owed them a debt) told her to try to make a new life in Eorzea... And that is kinda what's going on. And even after all that happened (RP wise...like if anyone was near Eastern La Noscea and saw RP and killing Garleans >>) The RP I have on her and her personality and everything about her is just so...I don't like it. It's really difficult to explain but since she's from the warring tribe I always made her more...indifferent and always calm to force herself to not act like how she would otherwise because she did that when she first got there and ended up getting robbed. I donno. I feel like I dug a hole for her that I can never get out of. This is worse than the hole Ashe was in...that he got out of.

Updated and bump! Hinterlands exploration and Sharlayan library have been ICly explored! Moving towards heading into the skies to Azys Lla! Waiting for Lord Commander Aymeric (AKA the best NPC in the game) to grant us leave and supplies to head up there! .... Meaning waiting for 3.1 and getting more time to recruit and learn more about current Ishgard state of affairs.

Gonna keep an eye out for the leaders of the LS but if one of you see "Shar Jhungid" online, can you send me an invite?

balmung Ul'dah Noble - Looking for Connections
Ashe replied to Barbarccia Valadis's topic in Chronicled Connections
Uuuuh, I think both Ashe and Shar could be useful here! Maybe. Ashe was recently adopted back into his Ishgardian family and is considered highborn there despite hating the place with all sorts of underhanded, evil plans in his head. Shar is a Xaela who, after now learning that her only hope for returning home has died, is desperate to kinda fit into Eorzean society and start over and would not mind her running into all sorts of crazy trouble. Uuuuh, I'm on a lot so I will look out for you in game but if you find me first that works too. -
Wish I could've done this. I was in a pair with solid location but then things happened, got switched to a large group, and legit ICly could not go at risk of death to my character haha. Things happen though... Hope the group I was later moved to had fun and hope to do this again next time. Please do this again though! Need more contacts in my life >.<

1. When I get into SoF on trial roulette and people just leave. I did that shit when it was still hard. Get over you damn PTSD and just do it! That shit can be finished without dragonkillers now >.< (but I'm always on DKs...don't you dare try to take it from me. I DON'T TRUST YOU!!!) 2. People who can't finish Chrysalis. Just give up on everything. Please. 3. MCHs. I see a MCH in the party and the second they use that knockback move when it's not needed I leave. YOU DON'T HAVE AGGRO. YOU DON'T NEED TO MESS UP THE MELEE DPS BECAUSE YOU'RE STUPID. 4. When I do Leveling roulette as my Black Mage, get library, everyone else is 59 and I'm 60, no item level sync and just wrecking shit and pulling aggro and people wonder why. I'm i185 and you're i140 at best. Do the math! 5. MCHs. 6. Ninjas who a) don't use DoTs and b) complain about their rotation. You don't know the struggle until you're a black mage and nothing makes sense anymore >.< I finished HW twice because I was avoiding youuuuu /cry 7. In Alex normal when people pretend they know the mechanics when they don't. "Oh, I'll take .5 too!" adds spawn, I'm BLM tanking shit at this point, you let me die because you aren't paying attention...we wipe. We explain mechanics to you. Repeat this five times and then you go "Why is no one explaining the mechanics to me boo hoo"...shut up omg >.< 8. DRGs and MCHs. 9. MCHs. Sorry, I know there are good MCHs out there but you never end up in my PUG groups. -
I kinda find it funny that people are treating this like my first RP experience ever... I've built complex characters before and my main has quite a few contacts who I've dragged on really crazy RP adventures in the middle of nowhere for IC dungeon runs progressing through a pretty strict plot leading to some serious growth. I've always RPd incredibly close to the lore. OOCly I kind of pride myself in how well I know the lore for Ishgard and Allag that's been presented to us like the back of my hand at this point. Weird thing to pride yourself on, I know...but my main is from Ishgard and researchers Allag...so kinda got to know that stuff... Anywho... Maybe it is the lack of connections too. Funny thing is, I've posted on this forum asking for connections and not one person responded haha. I do not do tavern RP. I will never do tavern RP. I am 98% against ever sitting in the QS and RPing. I find it numbing and bland and don't like talking about adventures that never happened. I rather go out and do that stuff than just make it up and talk about it with random people. That has always been my way of doing things which is why you'll rarely see any of my characters (ICly) in the QS. So yeah...anyone who has rp'd with me knows I'll ask you to meet me in some random place that you'll probably need a to get to. I've come up with less involved characters before that are easier to work with. ----- Sorry, I fell asleep so let me address what was being said here: 1. I've seen Au Ra rpers ignoring a lot of things that make their characters Au Ra. I've seen Xaela RP'd as Raen. I've seen them all...who made the little mermaid reference in this thread.....like "What is this fork? How do I use it" /brushes hair. I've seen them RPd as placid and cultured like they've been in Eorzea their entire lives--like one would RP a midlander. It's like Rping a midlander with the exterior of an Au Ra. I've seen one person make it work but his tribe is the one that makes males into housewives essentially so he ran away from home at a super young age. That I get. The ones who just came here a few months ago and act like they own the place is kind of baffling. 2. I rp within the lore but don't act like the events of the game happened to my character. So I will disregard anything with the MSQ that isn't just timeline. For example, my character never fought Ravana...but I RP as though 3. I came up with the backstory as I went with this alt...so much so that I leveled her to 60 while trying to expand more. I actually have A LOT for her. I didn't write up two parts of her wiki because I needed a new laptop and then work > finishing the RP wiki became a thing. She's actually incredibly fleshed out. 4. There's a chance that I am just RPing with the wrong people...considering I've RP'd with her with one Xaela who's player ended up giving up on his Xaela and race changed him. Other than that, I've only rp'd within my FC on her. so maybe that's it? If someone wants to RP with me on her and help me that way, I'd be glad to do something that way >.< It's not like I'm just starting out to RP on an Xaela. This alt is level 60. I have finished Heavensward twice and have invested a lot of time into her (more than I had initially planned to). 5. The wall in the lore I'm running into is really being unsure how to act in certain situations. Would she know this? Would she find this behavior acceptable? We can read literature and historical text on the mongols but never really know what their personalities were like. I can't exactly imagine a warring tribe (Jhungid is a warring tribe >>) being super friendly when their description literally states during their free time they would enslave smaller tribes...I would love to see these people who are actually rping with tribes in mind because everyone I've seen is like "Oh, hey let's be friends!" and it's like...how does someone who belonged to a tribe that tried to most likely enslave that person's tribe at some point react to something like that... Not sure if any of that makes sense. Sorry for rambling. I am typing without my glasses so I hope some of this is in english.
-
She has a backstory and everything. Like...I am pretty good with lore. I've interpreted things with the lore given that ended up being affirmed in Heavensward (which made me really happy with Ashe 'cause it's legitimized a lot of what I was rping on him). Anyways, I don't understand the foreign accent thing with the domans and othard people at all. In the Japanese version of the game, they just speak a more archaic yet understandable version of the language...I never once thought about the language as a part of their characters. I have a backstory on her. I've rpd with her multiple times but there is this wall with the limited amount of lore that can't be interpreted. I see people RPing their Xaela as like...regular Eorzeans who are all about that city life and it's like...that isn't really possible because they aren't about living in cities or really liking anyone outside of their own tribes (which is what I've interpreted). To get my character out of her tribe, I had her kicked out... Also, lining up stuff with other Au Ra players sounds easy but with Xaela they are warring tribes. Does that, lore wise, even make sense? Some of the tribes were especially violent--Jhungid is a tribe that held an annual battle against the Kharlu and while they weren't doing that they were enslaving other tribes. That doesn't seem all too friendly to me... I am surprised no one here has hit that wall with the lore...that or people are ignoring the lore completely >> There is actually a TON of lore available to those who are Raen from Doma available in the game. RPing a Raen actually seems easy... But Xaela....I guess it's easy if you ignore the lore >>
-
I am aware of that. My character has a tribe and I've read all of the stupidly limited lore available on Xaela. It's so difficult to find any reason to have any of them in Eorzea and make them feel like they belong there...there aren't many Xaela npcs.
-
I learned a lot about the mongols before I switched my major in college. I am wondering if it's just the fact I'm RPing a female character (I am a girl who sucks at rping girls >>) but she's just so boring. I am comparing her to all of the stuff I do on my Elezen and it's like...she's so lame >.< I can't think of ways to change her.
-
Specifically Xaela... I have about near given up with Shar and I know a lot of others who have given up or running into walls with their RP with Au Ra and more specifically Xaela. I'v been trying so hard to RP with her and it's just so...bland. She's so bland and I think it's because the lack of any real NPC guide to how Xaela are supposed to act. How is everyone else coping with this or did you give up and change your character to something else? I really am thinking of just switching her and my other alt (he doesn't have a wiki yet >> ) so I can RP on him more and have it actually be interesting...
-
From what I've read, I've seen the exact opposite. I'm not seeing these new(er) people complaining about doing the MSQ, but rather the veterans complaining that they have to repeat it on an alt. (Completely forgetting the fact that neither FF MMO is alt friendly in the slightest.) This game doesn't requires alts....so the fact people have alts is their own fault really and there is an option not to have them and most people who are not-RPers don't have them. I have two alts and I've beaten HW twice....took me about two weeks for my alt and now I am working on my third alt. It's not difficult once you know how to do everything.
-
This whole thing annoys me. FF14 shouldn't be like WoW where people assume the story isn't everything...it's kind of ridiculous in my opinion. It's really obvious the ones complaining were the ones who joined super late and most likely left WoW for FF14. The whole "Marketing ploy" thing is total BS because content was always locked, even in 2.x, if you weren't at a certain point in the story. I play this game for the story and lore...I am an RPer and I am an FF fan who likes the game aspect of...this game >> So yeah....When I saw this news, I was super disappointed. I liked that FF14 set itself apart with it's own rules and it made sense! I don't get why RPers are mad about not being able to skip past the story...wouldn't you want to know the lore that you learn through everything?
