In the Blind Iron Mines situated in Lower La Noscea, ghosts and monsters roam the caves, chasing off anyone who dared venture too close. Many men would vanish, bodies never found. Or so the rumors went. Yet two members of the Order, Shane Ma’iitsoh and A’ayzi Tia, seemed to laugh off the rumors when they heard them, having only found a weird looking fish and pretty rocks in the caves itself. However, it seemed there was a change.. The rumors shifting with more and more evidence to back them up. The bats that normally hung about the caves had fled, animal carcasses were found outside the entrance and the mention of unspeakable horrors and sights within. It was then that the two of them brought it to the Order’s attention and thus began a plan to investigate the mines. A small exploration group comprised of Alderique, Kyt'ir, A'ayzi, Madoc, Arshtat, Kuina, Shane, Rin set off towards La Noscea and towards the cave system. Upon entering they were hit with an obnoxious odor and a feeling of dread that only seemed to grow the farther and farther they ventured inside. The source of the fear and the smell showed itself when Kite and Rin decided to poke at the small pool of water inside. Unfortunately, that source was a mutated cupfish. Smelly, awful and seems to have a temper to match as it instantly attacked the party. The group finished the pitiful creature off without too much of a hassle, finding the reason for its mutation to be the artifact it had chosen to swallow in what was likely a moment of greed. With that being done they returned back to the house to study their find. And all likely take very long showers. That's it for a small story update. Please stay tuned for more news about our recruitment opening soon, our plans for Stormblood, and future events and plotlines coming your way! Thanks for reading! o/

Welcome to the RPC! I had a very familiar start, having no RP experience except for the funny little stories I would come up with for my character. Then I found out that MMO RP was a thing and came here. Been RPing for 3 years since. The main RP server Balmung is unfortunately closed at the moment, but there are several servers like Mateus, Faerie, Jenova etc. that have smaller communities to dabble in. I think even Goblin has some RP I believe? Anyways, plenty of the stuff to be found, good luck in your search for RP! o/

Fixing a character that's hard to swallow
Oyuu replied to Tahla'ra Molkot's topic in Character Workshop
Bolded some of Nebbs' great points! I think a key point is remembering that RP is a two-way street. It's a balance making sure your RP partners and yourself are having a good time. Being a one-man show obviously isn't working out for you, but I also don't recommend writing a character that is molded by someone else and not your own writing. Losing some battles could make your character more relatable, but you need to make sure it's not a total pity party or something that he easily solves overnight, there's no fun in that. Make him suffer, make him be humbled, make him ask for help. And remember to let those that want to help... help and feel like they accomplished something for a change. It's okay to let him be cared for, for him to lose or require assistance. Even the strongest of people have someone they can turn to in times of need. I think there is also issue with the echo ability that copies other people's abilities. Even if you're putting limitations on it, I'm getting the impression it is stealing a lot of the limelight from those who had those original abilities. Why can't those characters solve the problem instead of your character? There's a lot of various versions of the echo, maybe something that isn't so problematic as this one that you could experiment with. I know there's always going to be that strong desire to stay in character, but when your character's ego/power is causing this much of an issue, something needs to be dialled back. Try and get feedback from friends/people you RP with regularly. They will know best. But good on you for trying to fix it, not a lot people take time to reflect and try and make things more fun for others. -
I think Mateus is currently the NA server agreed on for a second RP community according to the polls here. It also possible that SE may offer free transfers to the smallest servers to help with the congestion on large servers. We know this is the case for the new EU servers they are bringing out, at least. Not 100% confirmed for the likes of Mateus. I'd definitely make a new character on Mateus if I were you, try a different starting zone and class and have fun! Check out the RP community there and you can try transferring your current character over later, for free or not depending on what SE decides to do. Anyways, good luck and have fun roleplaying wherever you end up!

discussion An EU server, for EU roleplayers *UPDATED 14/06*
Oyuu replied to Swanmay's topic in RP Discussion
As an EU FC Leader who's FC is full of NA folk, I ain't gonna leave. Being an FC leader means a lot of my own RP and gameplay is invested in the little group I have here on Balmung. Only in the extreme case of the game becoming unplayable because of ping would I consider fully moving my ass over to an EU server (I'd probably suffer a long time before doing so). And then? I would discuss with my FC the future of our group, see if anyone wants to take over or perhaps merge with another. I don't see how it's much different if I just wanted to step down for a different reason. -
discussion An EU server, for EU roleplayers *UPDATED 14/06*
Oyuu replied to Swanmay's topic in RP Discussion
If Lich already has a start on things, why not Lich? I'd probably wouldn't move off Balmung because I have a lot invested there, but depending on whether we could actually build a decent EU community I'd happily throw my alt onto the 'chosen' server. -
I'll probably be going! Will be fun to meet some Balmung peeps if any of you are attending.

Bamboozled in Balmung: Tonsa' questions about creating my first Xaela.
Oyuu replied to Mao's topic in Character Workshop
Just wanted to chime in on this. As someone who plays a less popular tribe (I think it's like me and three others? I haven't checked in a while there's 23 according to lodestone, oops) it is quite nice to have the free reign to just make headcanons without too much worry about stepping on other people's toes. With your own tribe, you have full control. You can decide whether they were hostile, isolationist, nomadic, traders, etc. etc. I can still have interactions with other tribal Xaela, my character likes to compare the different yet similar lifestyles he had with them (and sometimes he likes making out some tribes are bad but he's a bitter old man.) Building an actual RP tribe with other players might be a little difficult if you take that route, but if it's just your sole character, I wouldn't worry too much about it at all. It seems you're doing the appropriate research and asking the right questions to try and make it believable in the FFXIV setting, so go for it! Embrace the freedom to create something a little special to you and your character. -
Bamboozled in Balmung: Tonsa' questions about creating my first Xaela.
Oyuu replied to Mao's topic in Character Workshop
Original tribes can be a thing: The Othardian steppe is a vast region, therefore, every so often, one may come across a Xaela with a surname that is not found on the list of 51. This may mean that they are from a clan that was recently destroyed or absorbed. It may mean that they are of a new tribe that was formed by members leaving another. It may mean they are of a tribe that remained hidden in the northern mountains. Source Regarding the magic thing, whilst there might be no lore text that says they use it, I have not come across any that proves that they do not know any magic. We'll probably learn more in Stormblood as people have said, but it would be a little strange they wouldn't in this type of fantasy setting. Everyone else has provided great answers, so all that's left is welcome and good luck with playing your Xaela! I've always fancied making a go of creating a tribe myself, thinking of tribal life and the smallest of details of what it would be like seems like great fun. Look forward to possibly meeting you too! -
http://i.imgur.com/BphDJkD.jpg[/img] It was the Order of Ouroboros's anniversary this week! A year ago, we were simply a three man group meeting in a tiny hovel in Eastern Thanalan, and now we're twenty odd people strong with a house of our own and so many stories to tell. I want to say a big thank you to everyone's who has taken part and helped us along the way. You all shaped what the Order is today. Here's to another year of great fun and many horse memes! Okay, enough of the fluffy stuff and back to business. The gang plunged... literally, into the wild of Coerthas. They faced a fearsome foe, a very angry dragon that was displeased that it's slumber had been disturbed. In it's maw was a precious magical relic used by heretics, and the Order did their best to fell the beast and retrieve it. One of their newest recruits took a nasty bite but managed to get out of it still walking, whilst a couple of our regulars fell into icy depths and their lives almost taken from them. It was a dramatic event, but a successful one in the end. http://i.imgur.com/Sr49LSh.jpg[/img] http://i.imgur.com/PtYRe5N.jpg[/img] http://i.imgur.com/z0GzKSQ.jpg[/img] That's it for this month's update, other than recruitment is now open again! We're accepting both FC and LS members so if you're after plot driven, lore-friendly roleplay and lots of memes, we might be the group for you. Check out our new website and submit an application over there, do it! We look forward to hearing from you. In the meantime, take care!

Man, April flew by didn't it? Time for another Order of Ouroboros update! This Saturday, we celebrated the Order's first birthday! Woo! http://i.imgur.com/BphDJkD.jpg[/img] And what better way to celebrate than with a cake... a cursed cake. Oops. It was a rather eventful anniversary party, with illusions and tricks being cast on the poor Order members Some couldn't sit upright, others were over emotional, or saw everyone as horses... Either way, it was all solved soon enough and everyone was right as rain after. We cannot just simply have a normal gathering after all. ~ http://i.imgur.com/cAR8yYo.jpg[/img] We've been up to our usual shenanigans in the meantime, fighting voidsent by moonlight, dying the poor Leader's hair grey at daylight. Some big storylines are being lined up for the Order, so there will be plenty to do in the time leading up to Stormblood! http://i.imgur.com/JzhPBBk.jpg[/img] PvE has also been an interest of ours as of late, we've been progressing each of the Extreme Primal fights to try and get those birbs. We've conquered Sophia and Sephirot, our next goal is to take down Zuvran. Wish us luck, we'll probably need it... That's it for this month's update, other than recruitment is now open again! We're accepting both FC and LS members, so if you're after plot driven, lore-friendly roleplay and lots of memes, we might be the group for you. Check out our new website and submit an application over there, do it! We look forward to hearing from you. In the meantime, take care!

balmung Doman ex-noble & bookkeeper seeking connections
Oyuu replied to Deneve's topic in Chronicled Connections
Hi there I believe we RP'd quite a long time ago randomly in the Quicksand, I was on my alt character Ume Gyoji. I thought the little RP we had was good fun, and feel free to reach out to me again if you had fun too. o3o -
Everyone has already offered great advice. I'll try to add some info that hasn't been already! First off, I would recommend joining an RP FC or Linkshell, one that is active and you can experience an RP event for yourself. The best way to learn is to observe, watch and participate. What were your favourite parts of the event? What parts were a little wonky? Take notes, especially on how it is paced. It is very, very easy to make an event go on for too long and bore people. Also, joining a group or making some RP connections first will help a lot in terms of inspiration. When planning plots for my FC, I keep in mind my FC members and what they can do. Pay attention to their skill sets and jobs, mercenaries will want to do adventure-y type stuff, healers might want to treat a mystery illness, culinarians might need a rare ingredient for example. Remember this RP will involve other people and their characters, try to provide them some entertainment or development! People will appreciate it. Moral alignment and their goals are also very important for character motivation, a Lawful Good character will not want to go on a mission to rob a house, nor would a Chaotic Evil character have fun rescuing kittens from a river. Conflict is good, but you have to be careful that characters don't just simply turn and walk away from the problem at hand or spend the whole time bickering on what to do. So tl;dr, know who you are writing for, or if you decide to recruit for the plot before making connections, be explicitly clear in your PF or event post what kind of RP will be taking place so you attract the right characters for it. Another thing to consider is combat. There are many combat systems used, from simple /random when a difficult task or attack comes up, to very intense character point systems and the like. I would recommend keeping it real simple for now, perhaps one or two enemies. Freeform is also a valid option, and you don't even need to have combat to have a good storyline! Google and the game are your friends for inspiration. Well, at least for me! If I come along an interesting lore tidbit in the game, or perhaps I'm just browsing D&D campaigns, that can spark an idea. Anyways, I've rambled enough, good luck in your plotting and have fun with your RP! o/

Hi there, everyone else has answered the other questions so I'll address this one. Also fellow EU player that has played on the EU servers before moving over to Balmung. As someone who has fairly decent internet, I really don't struggle with doing PvE content at all. The only times I have ever dropped from the game or lagged was when a) my router was having a shitfit b) the game servers themselves were having a shitfit and it affected everybody, not just me or EU friends. I never struggle running dungeons or even endgame content, and my friends who are on terrible Scottish internet still manage to raid and progress just fine. This might change, but hopefully not by a lot. Also, you really don't need to go beyond level 15 to roleplay. A lot of RP can be found in the three main city-states and their housing areas, especially in the Ul'dah area. You can basically make a level 1 alt there and boom, you'll walk into RP just about every you go. And the glamour game isn't that bad at low levels, I have at least five outfits for a lvl15 character ranging from the mundane to adventuring kit. I have personally leveled many alts on Balmung, and tbh, it's very easy to do with the likes of Palace of the Dead and how buffed the MSQ is in giving exp. It's only trudging through the MSQ that's a pain, but depending on the type of player you are, you could just grind through it in a few days. Plus jump-potions will most likely be a thing in Stormblood! I've done the whole "keep my main on EU server and an alt on Balmung" but I ended up transferring altogether in the end and I really do not regret my decision. I've made great friends here and found awesome RP, and I'm sure you will too!

I agree with Gegenji that it can be done well if you properly consider the weight and affect amnesia would have the character, and what matters is how your character deals and reacts to the fact they suffer from amnesia. The only times I've interacted with characters with amnesia that really stuck out to me were experiences in the Quicksand. The character would mention it casually to the age old question of "Oh, where are you from?" and my character would respond "Well, shit, are you ok? Have you tried finding out what happened?" to be met with a playful shrug and a shake of the head. It did come across as lazy "I haven't thought of a backstory so I'll make it up as I go along" type deal. But that doesn't mean it can't be done well! Kilieit made a good point about doing your research into real life cases of amnesia to try and figure out how it would truly affect your character and how you could work that into a story. I think a mysterious and unknown past could be a really great plot device. Discovering what had really happened to the character can bring some sweet, sweet angst and development not just with your own, but others she has met before too! I don't think roleplaying a cliche is a bad thing at all and you should fully explore it if it's a route you're seriously considering. Heck, I've considered using amensia for a character backstory too by making the main character concept about discovering the truth... but it's not all that simple. Anyways, good luck in your roleplay!

Welcome to the RPC! I would recommend what Gegenji said and make a Making Connections thread. It's a good way to search for individual contacts, linkshells and free companies. Simply tell us what you are looking for in that post, for example, casual or heavy RP, adventure or slice of life, your adherence to lore etc. Same for the FC: do you require PvE elements? Regular RP events, and perhaps something morally good or bad? Being a little more detailed can go a long way. Make sure to include what you have to offer too, describe your character and how others may interact with him. Little prompts like that can spark ideas and inspiration for others and reach out to you. And don't feel awkward with walk-ups. If you ever feel like you're intruding on something, send the person a /tell and simply ask. I've always gotten pleasant RP out of just asking. Standing around and sitting on my bum didn't - so go out and have fun! Good luck in your search for roleplay!

balmung Current Player seeking new GMT(ish) Connections/FC
Oyuu replied to Overwatch's topic in Chronicled Connections
Hi there! Here's some links to help you in your search for EU-friendly RP! I would recommend checking out the EU RP Directory for a listing of FCs, LSs and players who all play in a similar timezone. There is also the Balmung EU Player LS (they have a discord too), which is a good place to meet other roleplayers OOC and arrange connections, see events that you can attend and just chat with people who play on the server. Good luck in your search for RP! As a fellow GMT player, there is plenty to find if you look in the right places. -
After three slightly chaotic rounds of fighting and much to my character's dismay, Mercenaries came out on top and won the Spellbreaker Melee! Many spells were broken, people were stabbed, it was all good fun... A sequel may come to Eorzea soon, but for now it's time to rest of the bruises and hurts! Thanks for everyone who attended, participating or just watching. And a really big thank you to Maril and the healers at Matron's Reach, you helped out a bunch! Thanks and take care!

This is happening in an hour! Hope to see you there.

Hi there Ren! Welcome to the RPC and to FFXIV roleplaying. 1) Balmung is the primary non-official RP server. It is swimming in RP, and unfortunately you can only get on it through transfer. There are smaller groups of roleplayers on other servers, have a look at the linkshell hall to see if there's anything that catches your eye. I can't see anything for Leviathan from the brief glance I gave it, but doesn't stop you from creating something! I would recommend coming to Balmung just because you'll find RP very easily! 2) Here is another useful link to help with getting start with roleplaying on FFXIV. The forums here have many useful threads and such to sink your teeth into, I spent a lot of time lurking here before I finally braved making a character for roleplay. You'll find things from lore discussions to making connections threads, very useful stuff! Hope this helps! Good luck o/

This is happening tomorrow! I've had one or two questions about the mechanics of the event and thought I should post it here: Characters that technically use both magical and physical fighting techniques have to choose one to focus on. However, everyone kinda uses a little bit of aether no matter what they do, so it basically comes down to this definition: - Are you using your physical body or weapon to hit someone? You’re a mercenary/physical damage wielder. This includes lances, fists, guns, bows, axes, daggers, swords and shields, etc. Dragoons can still do their jumps, monks can still charge chakras, just be sure you're smacking your opponent with a physical attack. - Are you using spells/aether as your main damage output? i.e. A fireball, fluid aura, a carbuncle, etc. Then you are a caster. Arcanists, thaumaturges, conjurers, scholars, summoners, and everything in between - if you're conjuring something actively aetherial to do your damage, you will be classified as a mage. The only class that will probably have a little confusion is Red Mage because it has a sword and uses magic, but basically, you’d choose to use either the sword or the pew-pew magicks. Make sense? I hope so!

http://i.imgur.com/WfkKby4.png[/img] S P E L L B R E A K E R M E L E E A public roleplay tournament on Balmung, coming soon! Always wanted to beat up that feeble nerdy mage that keeps boasting how he’d just sleep you and beat you with his staff? Or perhaps you wanna show that warrior his axe isn’t all that when facing the might of your ice spells? Well, now you can! On the 8th April 2017, at 3PM EDT/8PM GMT+1, the Spellbreaker Melee will take place and give you the chance to determine which is better, physical prowess or magical talent. Using the simple Grindstone rules, people will be pitted in 1v1 matches, a mage versus a mercenary. It could get bloody, but healing will be provided thanks to The Matron’s Reach! The Spellbreaker Melee will be hosted in The Mists, Ward 12, Seagaze Markets Subdivision. H O W I T W O R K S For Physical Fighters: No magic allowed, so no defensive, offensive or supportive spells. Any weapons and armor allowed, as long as they are not magically enchanted for the most part. All attacks to be purely made with fists or physical weapons, no aether manipulation allowed. For Magical Wielders: No physical weapons/attacks allowed, no clubbing people to death with your staff or enchanted swords, etc. All attacks to be purely made with aether. Summons do not count as an extra attack. NOTE: For characters that use both a physical and magical form of attacking, you will have to pick one side, Fists or Magic, and stick to that. You cannot cast a spell then stab someone with your sword the next turn. If you do, you will forfeit the fight. If the majority of mages win the fight, the Melee goes to the casters and vice versa. There may be prizes for the winning team! T H E R U L E S No killing or serious maiming. Even with OOC agreement, it will result in an IC ban from the tournament, actions have consequences! Breaking this rule means your character could be reported to the authorities. Only lore-abiding spells allowed. Any void, black, white or forbidden magic are not allowed and could result in a warning and potentially an IC ban from the tournament. Breaking this rule means your character could be reported to the authorities. IC actions have IC consequences! The winner is determined by rolls, no matter what. If in doubt, the event organisers have final say. Any OOC drama, bullying, trolling, and being a general douchebag will not be tolerated and anyone considered to be disrupting the RP will be asked to leave. Due to the nature of the tournament of needing even sides for the fights to commence, we will be doing sign ups for the first 15 minutes (hopefully, this is just a loose timeframe). First come, first serve. We will cut off the number of participants to avoid having too many on one side and to also make it manageable for the event DMs. Any feedback and/or complaints please direct to Oyuu Dataq, I will try my best to deal with any questions or issues as quickly as possible. O T H E R I N F O OOCly hosted by the Order of Ouroboros, but ICly... who’s asking? Just some mages and mercs wanting to fight, alright?! Healing will be provided at the venue should any injuries occur, provided by The Matron's Reach! The news of the event will be spread by word of mouth and posters scattered around popular taverns and mage gatherings in the cities of Eorzea. It is probably very likely your character has heard something about the Spellbreaker Melee. Any questions you can direct to myself, by either PMing me here on the forums or contacting Oyuu Dataq in-game. Hope to see you there!

Time for another monthly update! This March, the Order of Ouroboros saw the end to an epic tale - The Curse of Malcontent. Madoc Parnell was inflicted with the ailment when he wielded a tainted sword which created an aetherial bond with him, and it fueled him with a lust to consume aether from others. The Order of Ouroboros worked hard to save their resident smirking asshole mercenary and solve the mystery of the sword’s curse itself, every turn seeming to take a darker and more serious route. Time ran out, but love triumphed in the end and Madoc was saved from his corruption in a huge battle that left the Order very sore and exhausted afterward. If you would like to read more of this story, please check out our Tumblr where we’ve been posting about it! http://i.imgur.com/c9x3Xtk.jpg[/img] http://i.imgur.com/4RZaqGe.jpg[/img] http://i.imgur.com/ahI8KiZ.jpg[/img] http://i.imgur.com/Jvmk2R9.jpg[/img] (Screenshot credit goes to Ruran! And also a BIG THANK YOU to Ruran for running this event, it was great fun!) In other news, we have another little plot arc underway, continuing the investigation of the Sil’dah Ruins and what secrets the Order found there. We also have some usual Voidsent shenanigans on the way, as well as a trip to the beach and Coerthas Our schedule is full until May, so the Order has plenty to do right now and in the near future. Also, our recruitment is currently closed again due to management having their hands full and our numbers are currently at a healthy level. We’re looking to recruit in the next few weeks once things free up for us, so please keep an eye out if you’re interested. Any questions regarding the Order of Ouroboros, feel free to PM me here on the forums. Thanks again for reading! Take care! o/

Happy March everyone! Time for another update with some Order of Ouroboros news. We’ve wrapped up one of our ongoing plotlines, the Curse of Malcontent. It ended in an epic battle and love triumphed over evil, and our lovable asshole mercernary/bartender Madoc was reunited with his dear Arshtat. The Order can all breath a sigh of relief and hope they never see another cursed weapon again… :3c The full story, lots of well-written posts and glorious art and screenshots about it can be found on our Tumblr. http://i.imgur.com/A5VpKkX.jpg[/img] http://i.imgur.com/JKURZeQ.jpg[/img] Some shots from the battle, and the very unfortunate couple reunited, aww. (Screenshot credit goes to Ruran!) http://i.imgur.com/nf4ZGMS.jpg[/img] (Also want to give a BIG THANK YOU to Ruran for running this event, it was great fun!) Even with one of our major plotlines wrapping, there’s no break for the Order just yet. More trips to the Sil’dah Ruins, something something voidsent, possibly dragons and a Beach Episode™ are all planned for the Order shortly! Recruitment is currently closed as we’ve reached a good healthy number and our Officer team is a little busy right now, but we’ll open again in a few weeks time. Any questions regarding the Order of Ouroboros can be directed to me via PMs here on the forums or reach out to me in-game, find me on Oyuu Dataq. Thanks for reading, until next time! o/

Hi there! There is a thriving EU community on Balmung and there's definitely more than one EU FC too (I run one and know of several others so ) Have a look around again, some FC/LSs describe themselves as EU/NA or EU-friendly. Check out the EU RP directory for a list of players and groups, and the Balmung EU linkshell is a big collection of EU roleplayers also. Hope this helps!
