Finally chipping in on this, welp. I don't think people voicing their different experiences is meant to be "dehumanising or belittling" rather a "hey, perhaps try something like this or try to think like this way, there's still hope!" Because yeah, it is down to personal experience. You may be unlucky and interact with every assholeish RPer/group ever, or just find your contacts get you nowhere. It happens to everyone at some point, and if you're brand new this can be very daunting. Everyone is different, and will react to being ignored or unsuccessful in different ways. Others will take it as a challenge, and others will go "welp, guess I'm just not good enough." As someone who started off as the latter, then finally got success after getting off my little wallflower butt and bought a pretty Roe a drink - I ended up joining an FC hours later and the rest was history. Even the most experienced RPers who have been in this community a long time have felt so alone and that no one wants to interact with them. Heck, I still feel like this sometimes! But the truth is, you're not. No one is alone on Balmung, you just haven't found the right connections yet. There is a home for your character somewhere. Just keep trucking along, try new things and don't let it get you down. Send that "Hey, do you mind if I walk up to you?" tell, and see where it takes you. I'm sorry to whoever is feeling alone and like they don't belong, but keep trying, it does get better. Feel free to ping me if you want to RP or just chat.

You made a good choice, my friend! To answer your questions, yep it's that simple. They just need to exist and you just have to wait the three days to transfer. If you decide to level or craft, you can transfer items and gil (up to 1-2mil I believe) along with your character. My advice is that if you might be an altaholic like some of us here, you can transfer a bunch of characters all in one for the same price, basically 8 for 1. You can post a profile on the Making Connections forums, where you can advertise your character and look for different types of roleplay. You can also make a wiki, you can find guides on how to here (amongst other things). Regarding the name, if there is already a character that exists with the name on the server you're transferring to, you are offered a free name change. Hope this helps! See you on Balmung!

How have you gone this long without knowing about the best part of the boards? I've never heard of it either!

Hi folks, just posting a small, random update before Christmas to let you know we're still very much active and doing our crazy shit every week. Our roleplay events moved to every Saturday at 9PM GMT and we have increased the amount of casual RP around the house. I'm just gonna throw in a few random screens I never got to post a while back from a fairly recent event so enjoy! http://i.imgur.com/dtnFq1N.jpg[/img] Gathering before they headed out into Thanalan in search of a 'miracle healer'. http://i.imgur.com/tSyjrpU.jpg[/img]] http://i.imgur.com/Ekf8wx3.jpg[/img] The group deciding on their next plan of action. We've had various events in the past month or two, the most recent seeing the Order suffering from a horrendous attack at their home base. But now that the dust has settled and the rubble is cleaned up, our members will be preparing for Starlight celebrations to reflect on this past year. Random update is done for now, take care and happy holidays!

Sadly so, Gegenji. :C How dare you roleplay a race in the game!!! /s

I guess it wouldn't be too different from RPing in forums, messengers, etc? I mean, I kinda have the rule that if I'm unsure of something, I give my RP partner a heads up that my character is involved in this or that and it's ok to not want to participate in that if they don't want to. OOC communication is key in these situations in making sure you don't upset someone or get involved in something you don't want to. But overall, there is definitely a scene for darker, grittier and even taboo subjects in FFXIV roleplay from what I've seen in the community. Your character backstory appears to be well thought-out, I appreciate that the feelings for her brother have had heavy implications/consequences for her. (And like Alothia mentioned, portraying it as purely a story element and not as something fetishized will definitely help in making the character more appealing to others.) You will meet people who will dislike it, maybe even insult you for it, but it's fiction at the end of the day. But people dislike people for doing things like playing a lalafell, or a voidsent, so don't let it get you down if it happens. Roleplay what you enjoy. Different strokes for different folks and all that! Good luck.

New to Balmung, new to RP, kind of frightened [lgbt?].
Oyuu replied to Roukanken's topic in Welcome Desk
Hi! I believe this linkshell is the type of thing you're looking for in terms of a trans community! Balmung is very LGBT+ friendly so don't worry. Welcome and hope to see you soon on the server! -
Hi and welcome to the RPC! o/

Today, the Order of Ouroboros decided to take a break from rotten diseases and voidsent goo monsters and headed to the hot springs. After chatting with an overly friendly Mamool Ja, some relaxed in the springs whilst others simply tried and enjoy whatever peace and quiet they got. Here's some pictures of the fun! http://i.imgur.com/nl0owev.jpg[/img] http://i.imgur.com/dD9uWk7.jpg[/img] http://i.imgur.com/CvSLShH.jpg[/img] http://i.imgur.com/6ID1IEk.jpg[/img] http://i.imgur.com/WwR9YA5.jpg[/img] This is the calm before the storm as we will be wrapping up some of our ongoing plots which unfortunately (or fortunately if you're a sadist like me) will likely end in some sort of bloodshed and tragedy. May our characters prevail against their enemies! Until next time~

Hi! I'm not sure what is currently active right now, as these smaller communities seem to fizzle out and reappear over time, but here's a link to the linkshell hall where you can see a list of different RP groups on other servers. It's been a long while since I tried to do RP on an EU server, my last attempt on Cerberus over a year ago. It was very small, barely ten people in the group and very different styles of RP. Some were quite casual, others were a little more eager by writing full bios etc. I wanted to RP on a more consistent basis, but I just simply wasn't getting enough, and even then the RP wasn't that... fulfilling. Just my personal experience and opinion of course, I really don't know the state of RP on other servers to comment on them now! If you're looking for something casual and perhaps not so strict on lore, I would recommend a smaller server. If you're looking for something more immersive and plentiful, I would go back to Balmung, there's quite a big EU scene so there'd definitely be people to play with! Good luck!

Two events a week seems plenty to me, I don't know about others. Heck, my FC only runs an event once a week for 2-4 hours at a time (although this due to the fact most of our members work full-time and only really have weekends to spare). As Faye and others have said, variety is important. We jump from combat events, to investigations to just plain ol' meetings sat around the table. That way, we're getting our little bit of action and mystery, and time for our characters to recuperate in between. Getting outside of the FC house is important too, a change of scenery helps a long way. Syranelle made a good point of leading by example, and I can say it worked for me and my fellow leaders. When we started out, I ran the first few events whilst new members settled in and got a feel for the RP style. Once we got to know each other IC and OOC, they felt more confident and actually approached me to ask about running an event of their own. I was such a proud momma that day, *sniffle*. Also, a small tip: having a good understanding of most characters in your FC will help you in writing your FC plots! What are certain characters talented in? What do they fear the most? Use that as a point of inspiration! Finding plots are relatively easy, if I'm struggling to find something, I refer to Google and look up simple D&D quest ideas. Write it to fit your FC and FFXIV lore and boom, you got a new event. Then there's the whole realm of combat systems, which can add structure and some order to the combat roleplay experience. Having two of the same types of meet-ups every week can get stale, but like Sena pointed out, what is stopping them from contributing? Are your members aware they can create their own thing with your support? Or are they more the type to want to be... spoonfed RP. >_> I do think the leader should put in the most effort, but roleplay has always been a two-way street, you have to give to receive. Don't burn yourself out if you're doing your best and people are still complaining, the RP might just not be their cup of tea and it's time for them to move on.

Already some great answers in this thread, but I will chip in on some of the questions you have raised that haven't really been touched upon. (Just a note, I've been an Officer in previous FCs, and I've been running my own for several months now!) Officer Roles: Mentioned previously in the thread, I pick my officers by what I'm shown. All of my officers have been independent, initiated roleplay, helped others in dungeon runs and/or roleplay issues just of their own accord. Once I got to know them proper, and vetted them for any possible drama etc, they're good to go! But what do they do exactly? My Officers are an extension of me. They read new applications and give me their insight, they propose new storylines and plan them into our FC schedule accordingly. They are friendly, approachable and are open to others coming to them for help. If I'm not online and there's an issue, I trust and expect them to bring it up to me in our many OOC chats so it can be sorted out ASAP. In terms of what work to give them, if someone is good at networking and getting to know people, have them recruit! If they love DMing? Have them be in charge of the FC storylines! Ask them if they are interested in such a role, and be sure to list their responsibilities to them so they can make a decision. But everyone has a real life, with work, school, kids, etc. So don't be surprised that you might need to give them a gentle nudge to check out a new app or think about the next storyline. I think sparing at least 5 minutes a day to just catch up on what's going on and discuss/plan officer things goes a long way. Think of officers like your babysitters. You look after the kid (the FC) 24/7, but there are times when you just need a weekend off (plan an event for me! Interview this person! etc) and they can step in and take on that role for a few hours. I do most of the FC work in terms of managing the website, recruiting, etc... partly because I'm a masochist and mostly because FC Leaders are the core of their FC. Nobody isn't going to bother keeping a room tidy if it wasn't in the first place, you know? Rambled a little bit and haven't even gone into the other issues, but everyone here has got it covered by the looks! FCs are always a work in progress and never perfect. But I hope this thread will help in giving you motivation to work on yours so it's something you're happy with.

I'd check our the Free Company and Linkshell halls if you haven't already. Also keep an eye out in partyfinder as I've seen some pirate-esque groups advertised there too! Having been a part of a Skypirate FC before, I think it's kinda hard to put together roleplay content suited for those sort of groups so they seem to come and go. A lot of the members in our FC were good-aligned, so had a hard time actually doing... you know, pirate things. We ended up just becoming a treasure hunting company, and they eventually went down that route in terms of the FC theme. I would keep an open mind and broaden your search to look for FCs that do treasure hunting and scavenging, mercenary work etc. They might not be classified as pirates, but perhaps some of their members are/have been? Good luck in your search!

i0aqjdw-qhA Was this thread just made to show off cute art of my FC members? Maybe. But we're also looking to recruit new members too! Post here or send me a PM if you're interested in joining us. Because magic, magic, magic, OoO~

Small update! Latest update on alts: Z'ohji Tia, Ume Gyoji, Rhako'a Sahri, Natsuko Oshidari, Mikh'a Zinhe and Zehr'a Relanah. All have wikis except Zehr'a. I've been RPing mainly in Discord with buddies of mine for these alt characters, whilst focusing Oyuu for in-game FC RP and the like. Feel free to poke me for RP on these characters, I will happily roleplay in game or in discord if asked.

----- The Order of Ouroboros began as a secret society of mages after the Great Flood following the War of the Magi. In recent times, the Order has become bolder, but never stepped fully from the shadows. Wherever magic is abused, or promising mages require guidance, the agents of Ouroboros travel. And in this age of Primals and war, their presence is needed. Always on the search for willing members to help protect Eorzea and its vast and sacred knowledge of the magicks, the Order will take on a varying range of skilled mages and mercenaries. From beginners dabbling in with the basics to experts that wield even forbidden arts, as well as those who are not so arcanely-inclined but wish to battle against the destruction and abuse of aetherial knowledge. Whether you find the Order, or the Order finds you, the opportunity to assist their cause is available to you. ----- is a Rank 8 Medium to Heavy RP-FC on the Balmung server, dedicated to providing fun, lore-friendly roleplay with the theme of magic and mystical knowledge. Open to EU/NA members alike, we aim to provide weekly roleplay events and valuable connections to aid your character's development, whether to help with their career and studies, and to create a network of quality roleplayers. Here at the Order, we're looking for new members to join our ranks. Our free company is open to all who have characters that desire to learn, teach and protect the knowledge of aetherial arts. If you have an interest in more information or joining us, please head over to our site and fill in an application. Any questions please post on this thread, or get in touch with our leaders in game: Oyuu Dataq, J’takra Tia, Sahael Nevara, Arthurioux Duchamps or Suen Shyu. Thank you for reading and we hope to hear from you soon! (Artwork credit: Hithren on Tumblr)

balmung looking for nomad rpers ♠ shroud ♠ keepers & more!
Oyuu replied to Parzival Baur's topic in Chronicled Connections
Omg. You're a scrublord even! Perfect. You and your friends are welcome to join on whatever characters they like, and I would enjoy meeting them! I will be available most of the day and I am about to log in now! I had browsed your making connections thread months ago, tbh. (I am looking for a mentor for Gehr'ir in thaumaturgy.) I figured our schedules would be too far offset to do anything consistently so I didn't message you. If you are interested/looking for students I am still interested in that! Heh, I'll be home in a couple of hours so I will try and catch you and get my fellow scrublords to join too. And we can definitely discuss the thaumaturgy stuff, if I can't do it personally, Oyuu knows plenty of other mages (who are in more friendlier timezones ) that I could recommend. Talk to you soon, and thanks for reading my thread! o/ -
Pretty sure there are plenty miqo'te NPCs that are clan/tribeless within the actual game. And I myself play an ex-tribal Seeker that was kicked out by a rival Tia, and another Seeker who's mother left the tribe when he was three and was raised in Limsa Lominsa instead. There's definitely different routes you can take, whether you include a tribal/clan background or not. Plenty of miqo'te RPers I've met had characters that were adopted by another race, their parents lived in the city/non-tribal village, or had been chased out of their tribes, or left on their own accord to live an adventurer's life... etc. etc. Miqo'te aren't restricted to living a tribal life thankfully, so go nuts and make a backstory you're happy with.

Can't help much with the beast tribe lore questions but I can with Question 6. Considering it is super easy to change and level classes, why not... just play a class you want to play? You do not have to define your starting class as your IC job, nor do you have to 'join the guild' in character either. As an example, I have nearly all jobs levelled on my Au Ra, but he is not from Gridania because that was my starting zone, nor is he an Archer or Bard in character. He's from Othard and he experiments with Astromancy and Thaumaturgy magic. It's your character so you can say what they do and where they are from, don't let game mechanics stop you! (They only get annoying if you want a certain outfit from a job.) Hope this somewhat helps, and I'm sure someone will hop in with some beast tribe lore at some point. Good luck!

Oyuu replied to Parzival Baur's topic in Chronicled Connections
Hi there! A couple of friends and I are definitely interested in joining a linkshell like this for a few of our alts. We've been itching to roleplay in-game, but of course, it's harder to find people out in the world to interact with and our characters aren't going to head into Ul'dah and stand around in the Quicksand anytime soon. Feel free to boop me in game to chat/invite, I'll either be on my main Oyuu Dataq, or my alt I want to join on, Rhako'a Shari. ^o^/ -
Well, luckily on Balmung finding an RP-FC is not a hard task. If you provide a little more info about your characters and what exactly you are looking, e.g. roleplay styles, your schedule/timezone, themes you like to roleplay, you might receive more offers. Also I would follow up on Thunderbolt's suggestion of browsing the FC/LS listings here, good luck in your search!

yassss, all the Au Ra. Looking good, Ruran!

Howdy folks! It's October already, time flies by so fast. Thought I would update this thread with a bit of news concerning our ongoing plots and share some pictures! Our regular meet-ups every Sunday always bring a few new faces as well as our regulars, and we always end up arguing discussing about some silly nonsense intriguing goings on in Eorzea. The Order organised a plan to summon a voidsent, got grossed out by news of a certain 'green rot', argued about Tak stealing something... again and put together a trial of their arcane abilities! http://i.imgur.com/SgwawoN.jpg[/img] http://i.imgur.com/mZK9XJv.png[/img] http://i.imgur.com/lXeElHo.png[/img] http://i.imgur.com/VXkNzsV.png[/img] Look at our beautiful members faces... before they distort into a frown when someone makes a lewd joke or suggests murder as the first option when facing a new problem. http://i.imgur.com/mqKQimg.jpg[/img] The Order is always looking for new members to join, so if you're interested in finding a cure to gross and mystery illnesses or hunting down voidsent and crazy mages, perhaps you should take a look at our website and maybe even submit an application! Both the linkshell and free company are open, feel free to message me here on the forums or contact me in game for more information. Thanks for reading, until next time!

Hi folks, just posting a few pictures and updates from last month's activities! Hope y'all are doing well. ^o^/ One of our newest storylines involves a regular member, Arshtat. Her brother has been missing for some time, and the only leads she has on his whereabouts was his strange behaviour before hand and a drawing of a Mhachi amulet. From firsthand experience, the Order deduced that her brother was under the influence of some sort of void magic and they began to investigate! Which meant summoning... The Eye! http://i.imgur.com/mqKQimg.jpg[/img] The Eye has a bit of history with some of the Order members, and at first refused to help, despite the offers of 'live sacrifices' and aether. However, it ended up blabbing a clue to the group when they tricked him, and the Order managed to escape without any harm coming to them. It looks like they're heading to Gelmorra to delve further into the mystery of Arshtat and her brother. http://i.imgur.com/utyLrXo.jpg[/img] http://i.imgur.com/msKIX5h.jpg[/img] http://i.imgur.com/xE0ukHa.jpg[/img] We also put our Order members through a test of their arcane skills down in a temple where a poor, innocent moogle plushie was horrendously murdered, and held meetings where they argued about murdering people and noted how they are slowly forming a collection of arsonist-wannabe miqo'te. Want to join in on our fun? We're still open for recruitment! Weekly RP events and PvE shenanigans, you get to hang out with us lovely folk. Head on over to our website for further information and possibly submit an application? ;O So, thanks for reading and take care!
