  1. I don't have any specific fighters in mind, but I picture Dogberry's hand to hand fighting as very MMA Heavyweight inspired. Mostly just the striking, as holds tend to be a little godmodey in PVP fights. For Lancer, I have a little bit of training in spears in Darkon/Dagorhir and some SCA fighting. It's nothing like what I'd call "realistic" combat, but Dogberry tends to fight much like I do. Triangular footwork, choking up and down on the shaft (hyuk hyuk), body checking and throwing my weight around when people get close. I learned a LOT from Sword Knight Boot Camp videos. [video=youtube]
  2. I've been feeling this for a while, and I just need to get this off my chest. I am so sick of doing the same things over and over every day. Log in. Check my plants. Check my retainers for gil from my auctions. Queue up for roullette. Oh look, Snowcloak again. Oh, I need more Poetics, OK. Queue up for a trial. Titan HM. Again. Do my dailies. Do my hunts. Oh, my alt needs a piece of gear. Time for Baby Brayflox. Again. I honestly feel bad for my little digital avatar dudes. If they were real people, they'd be living in a Groundhog's Day style nightmare where every day is the same. I like to RP and ruin Coil. That's pretty much where the joy in this game comes from. And yet I spend so much of my time in this game not doing those things. Just day after day of the same stuff. The repetition is driving me mad.
  3. He's gonna cheat and let booze pour into those prosthetics of his. Yeah, that's the plan. He's going to short his legs out and have to be carried home and tucked into bed. Actually, that will probably happen no matter what.
  4. But when you're only three apples high, that's not saying a lot.
  5. Yeah, Kage, I'll let you be peewee champ for downing three whole thimbles full of morning dew, and make you a little daisy petal crown and daffodil stem scepter.
  6. We need something to do while our children aren't being fed to primals by sneaky Sea Wolves! Look, you just let them run around the streets of Ul'dah. We need at least some measure of pest control, it's a public health issue at this point!
  7. Pah. You Highlanders. Steel Wolf and I are going to win this for the Roegadyns. We're just going to walk in and take it, and you Highlanders are going to stand by and let us, like you let the Garleans take Ala Mhigo. Yeah, I said it.
  8. Plus there's the whole sunlight and resting in a coffin filled with dirt from your homeland thing.
  9. Iskierka folded up the newspaper and put it inside her grimoire for the time being. She had been looking for a place to sell her services as a fortune teller, and was aware of several parties interested in providing her a place to work. She wondered what this "Sex Queen of Ul'dah" might have to offer. She gulped down the last of her tea and rose from her seat at the bar of the Quicksand.
  10. Dogberry used to collect debts for the Pugilist guild until he grew a conscience.
  11. Yeah, I thought about this, too. My theory is that the opening scene will change for them, or maybe for everyone, to move the storyline ahead for people so that chronologically au ra are not showing up in the plot line ahead of their actual arrival.
  12. Name: Dogberry Himalspyr World: Balmung Character main class/job/role (Optional): Lancer Cards (recommended): The Tower Reason for Card choice (recommended): Dogberry's motivators come from disaster and dealing with abrupt change. He hangs on to the past to the detriment of his present and future. Tumblr name (optional): Also please include 1-3 screenshots
  13. I'm putting some money on the Cubs this year. It could happen!
  14. Mammets are AIs. The Allagan have had various AIs Really, programming something that just follows you around and drops a specific thing on a voice command is not too hard in the real world, I am sure with aether it would be not that hard in Eorzea. There's AI as depicted in game, and then there's AI that someone with a bit of reason would want launching weapons from the sky at them. The Mammets are played as buggy and strange for laughs, to illustrate that the tech just isn't there. The Allagans had AI, but they're gone. Getting that back is going to take a Babbage or a Turing.
  15. Everything Chachan wears is smallclothes.
  16. If we're weaponizing airships, though, why not just put a cannon on it and call the thing a predator drone?
  17. I think it sounds cool, but really, really impractical. It raises more questions than it answers. It answers only one question: How your character carries around a bunch of weapons at the same time. It raises several: Did you character build this airship? How does your character obtain the ceruleum necessary to power an airship for long periods of time? Is it a manned airship? If so, how does your character keep this crew loyal when all they do is just follow you around to carry weapons? If it is not manned, is your character a magitek genius, essentially Nikolai Tesla, Alexander Graham Bell, Charles Babbage, and Alan Turing rolled into one? Then they should be commended for creating the first true AI in Eorzea. If no, is your character a magical prodigy akin to Merlin, Gandalf (actually flying war machines seem more like Saruman's thing), and Dumbledore? Then they should be commended for making an airship golem. If no to the last two questions, how did they come by these wonderous things? Do the weapons come down on little parachutes so that they don't break? Is your character actually David Hasselhoff, because having an AI vehicle buddy is freaking AWESOME?! Doing things like this, you have to ask these kinds of questions, and then once you have all of those answers, you have to ask yourself if there is support for this in the material you're pulling from. These are the outcomes that I can see happening. 1. You come up with satisfactory answers for your questions and determine that there is justification in canon, in which you go for it. 2. You come up with satisfactory answers, but feel that it is too much of a stretch for the canon, and you don't go for it. 3. None of the answers you come up with are satisfactory, regardless of their canon status, and you don't go for it. 4. AI AIRSHIP BUDDY WHO CARES?! You decide to Rule of Cool it, and go for it. Haters to the left. I hope that was helpful.
  18. I'm looking forward to World of Darkness if only for the jokes about confusing it for a Vampire larp.
  19. Dogberry has one Heavensturn resolution. It's the same every year. Revenge. Iskierka does not keep the tradition of a Heavensturn resolution because self-improvement is in fact the meaning of life, and adopts alchemy as the process for individuation. Making a half-hearted resolution is pointless in her march toward rubification. She thinks she's cute.
  20. ...now that makes two of us! I know right?! If it follows the more recent primal fight music, I'm just going to put Cry of the Black Birds on repeat.
  21. Do we have the Odin fight music yet? If it's not something akin to Amon Amarth, I will be disappointed.
  22. Do you like history? Do you like the idea of history but feel it doesn't have enough BADASS DRAGONS?! Then friends, let me introduce you to the Temeraire series by Naomi Novik! OK so picture the Napoleonic Wars. Lots of ships sitting in a line, firing cannons at each other. BORING. Now picture the Napoleonic Wars, with all the ships of the line and stuff AND A BUNCH OF FIRE BREATHING, ACID SPITTING, VISCIOUS DRAGONS. Now I know what you're thinking. Dragons are cool, but they don't make for compelling drama. HOLD UP ONE MINUTE! THESE DRAGONS ARE DRAMATIC AS HELL! Each dragon is a sentient, intelligent being, and is handled by a crew of riders. The dragons will bond with one person AND ONE PERSON ONLY. Dragons outlive humans by a substantial margin. Awww. Now this isn't a matter of humans controlling some beast. The dragon picks who it wants. That person now belongs to that dragon. It will of course listen to its human. Oh it loves its precious little human like we would love a hamster, and if that hamster could talk we'd probably do what it says, too. There's a whole WORLD of dragons up in these books, being all cute and dragony but also brave and adventurous and sometimes downright scary, and they're running through your history class, knocking books off your teacher's desk and writing obscene things on the chalk board because these dragons are CRAZY! Temeraire series! Naomi Novik! His Majesty's Dragon!
