So as far as my understanding of things, Ishgard has de facto territorial claim over the sea of clouds, Azys Lla resides there as well. However, Gerolt and what's his face up and take for Azys Lla and call it home for the length of the anima quest. Also, there is the fact a FIRST BROOD IS CHAINED AND ALIVE on the southern quadrant of the map. So do people go to Azys Lla as they please? Its a place holding the triad, which are known to be a source of unimaginable power. There are Mericydian dragons all over, Garlemald has set up base on the eastern side... just what's going around in that zone? I'm surprised the thing isn't a bloody battlefield or heavily contested by the alliance for all the still functioning allagan tech/creating a palisade against the encroaching Garlemald empire.

Ishgard's fire blasted stone and scorched alabaster would be greeted with the rare glimpse of the Eorzean sun that day. A page boy brushes past the dispersing crowd in Saint Valeroyant’s forum clutching onto a scroll case sealed with the emblem of a baying wolf. The boy slips pushes past the doors of the congregation, out of the deceivingly cold weather and into the nearly stuffy yet altogether luxurious warmth of the barracks of the Knight’s Templar and Dragoons. The page presents the scroll case to the guard at the door to Ser Aymeric’s station and is bid to depart, leaving the man on duty to open the heavy double doors and deliver the missive to the ever-busy head of state. When the seal is eventually broken, this is what would beread Lord CommanderAymeric, It is perhaps with heavy heart I regret to inform you that the initial scouting of Mericydia has bared little in terms of the possible whereabouts of Nidhogg and his brood. The isle, at least whereupon we landed, is barren of dragons. Not much remains with the exception of aggressive, voracious, local flora and fauna that impeded progress further inland. If any of the Mericydian kin remain they have yet to reveal themselves, perhaps rightfully so in light of the Allagan razing in years past. Casualties and sickness that occurred while attempting to forge a path inland drained resources much quicker than expected. As such we had resolved to leave markers and make clearings for when Ishgard can truly dedicate itself to uncovering the mysteries of the southern isle in less trying and urgent times. While the bulk of the forces are returning, I have elected to remain behind in Limsa Lominsa in light of unsettling news. I understand as much as you that now as a member of the Alliance we cannot do as we please any longer and hope to maintain amiable ties to our sister cities. As such I am accompanying Inquisitor Frimont and his group in hunt for the supposedly rogue inquisitor Xanadu Mol. According to the intel gathered there seems to be unholy experiments involving dragonkin and void magicks afoot and I am compelled to remain until the possibility of a draconic threat, be it of Nighogg’s machinations or of the former Holy See’s is removed. I pray the hunt for Inquisitor Mol is something you are aware of and that the clergy is not running amok, further putting strain upon the tenuous relation with our allies and the sympathetic dragonkin alike. Until more has come to light, I shall follow them. I await your orders, ~Orrin de Halgren

actually since I may not be present for saturday, is there a way for me to make arrangement/discussions beforehand?
-
Orrin's gut is telling him that he has to strike at the maw, even with the consequences, he feels that one will result in the least collateral if the gamble is wrong. that's just some OOC justification...because I believe I won't be able to make Saturday.

balmung As an Ishgardian noble.
Zelmanov replied to Simeon Sibaruse's topic in Chronicled Connections
Hi there, as another Noblesse Oblige I just wish to ask you for further information about your character. You mention "former dragoon" Does he give up due to obligation of suddenly becoming the head of the house? That is quite believable. Just saying that usually dragoons either die or are brutally injured to the point that they are unable to fight. Alberic and what's his name in the Congregation as examples. Estinien actually resents Alberic for abdicating. the only "retired" dragoon we see is Heustienne's father, but he too has been scarred (eye patch) and probably became too old to fight. Your character seems pretty well thought out but I like to know the nitty-gritty. -
Orrin Halgren, you have been sooooo nice that you make "The CareBears" look selfish. oh and trying just the first name There's a reason Santa created a Naughty List. And you're just one of those reasons Orrin.

I want to sign up because orrin hasn't done much recently, but I also don't want to miss the chance for some of the more dramatic events

My biggest worry is that introducing a different system from the original is that ff7 is MASSIVE and retooling EVERY SINGLE FIGHT option or no is a grand undertaking and it may be MUCH easier to trim a lot of fat and exclude a lot of fluff features and the sort. Like, what if they just shut out Wutai entirely? what if they reduce the number of turks fights? What if some bosses are cut out because they won't gel with the new system. that's my biggest worry is that they'll stream line the game. I want my 3 disc madness. Optimistically however, we end up with a entirely remade FF7 where I'll play the game JUST to see how in the hell they decided to rework fight x or y.

[LFG] Main possibly transferring to Balmung, seeking Raid group
Zelmanov replied to Zelmanov's topic in FFXIV Discussion
just tossing it out there is all, I recall someone recruiting for a raid group here, think it was mcbeef. Also..apparently I'm not allowed to post on the forums I do not know why. I've never posted anything there. -
Hey there, thought I may try this here as well (SORRY IF THIS IS THE WRONG PLACE FOR IT), this is just a flat copy paste from my reddit thread as well, just trying to get visibility. I am seeking a raid group that is on a4s (last phase or enrage). I've seen 3-4% enrage on A4S and my raid group is about to possibly disband (Tank wants to quit, Leader/Bard has RL job that may prohibit any consistent raid schedule) and have been warned to look for a static just in case. I used to be with Unreal Aussies of Behemoth, even as someone living in Canada on the east coast I woke up at 3-4 am and raided for 3 hours every day except friday morning and sunday morning so you know I am (crazy) dedicated. I bring solid DPS and usually am not the one responsible for a wipe more than thrice a night during progression. I have ALL the gear barring my i210 weapon so don't have to worry about giving anything to the new dragoon. Cleared A3S when less than 10 groups on Behemoth had cleared (or atleast announced it) I am looking for a group that progresses aggressively but I am NOT looking for server first, and especially NOT world first progression groups. Please contact me/ IM me. I REALLY want to remain on Behemoth Server or go to Balmung.

How do you handle expressions that would be impossible in Eorzea?
Zelmanov replied to Zelmanov's topic in Character Workshop
That quote, from The Fellowship of The Ring is very similar to what you're talking about, and it's been discussed by scholars of his work for a long while. We doubt that hobbits, despite having access to both gunpowder and clockworks, obviously the most technologically advanced of the peoples of middle earth, knew what express trains were, but there it is in the text. There are two methods of handling this kind of anachronism. You can either go with it, as Tolkien did in this passage (but no others), risking jarring the reader out of their immersion, or you can "localize" it. Either Orrin swung his spear like a baseball bat, or he did a heavy, full bodied horizontal swing. The question here is the audience to whom you are writing. If you feel that you are writing to an audience that desires immersion, then you should localize. What bursts through a wall like an unstoppable tank might instead crash through the masonry like a raging behemoth. If your audience desires clarity over artifice, then more modern terminology might be more appropriate. If, for example, someone new to the lore heard the line about a behemoth, it would do them no good if they were unaware of what, exactly, one was. Just wanna say for this one, J.R.R. Tolkien establishes in the first chapters of his series that he is relating a "lost" history to the world. Middle Earth existed to some degree, then it all the magical elements disappeared with the age of man. So the freight train is less jarring because the narrator already establishes himself in a far off future past the events of Frodo and the ring. But I do get what you are getting at. -
This happened to me recently in combat. In order to prevent someone from getting past, Orrin was trying to keep them pushed back. He decides to give him a good baseball swing with the blunt end of his very top heavy spear to do the job. problem is...I don't want to describe it as a baseball swing. Yes saying it like that would make it very clear to a reader the intention and image of the movement, but I feel it breaks immersion because the narration no longer gels with the world. Since there is no Baseball as far as we know, how would you go about describing it? I ended up saying it was a very powerful, full bodied, horizontal swing. If anyone else ran into similar issues in expression that they want to share, feel free!

Cloud is to be in Super Smash Bros!
Zelmanov replied to Altitis Acquired's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
I wanted Kain from FFIV...BUT HELLS YES I'LL TAKE CLOUD seems surprisingly fast, shorter range than what you expect from a sword user (lots of the slashes have it start from within the character hitbox as opposed to extending the full arm and blade length like link, marth, ike or shulk.) Can never truly judge about power without percentages. Seems to have a useful tool kit with meteor smashes and the lark. my worry is that he seems to have weak to poor recovery without the "limit break buff" (neutral b charge move?) and weak recovery characters tend to get shunted to mid to low tier just on the fact that more of the aerial zones are death for them. He'll definitely become my secondary to link, if not primary. -
Orrin will go instead of Kiht, BUT only if Zanzan don't want it.

Emmellain and Artoirel are tossing some mad shade about in the cutscenes. But in that final one I thought that was just him not paying attention one bit, he is not someone with goals and motivation, he just wants to romance girls.

While I had entirely forgot how we were robbed of our blessing of light (But not echo because we still had echo buffs), My only conclusion is that the two are intertwined and only our WOL has ever experienced the severance of the two...I do not know. Also, as an addendum, Y'shtola suspects Thancred has lost the ability to manipulate aether, its why he simply didn't teleport back after getting some clothes HOWEVER, the inability to manipulate Aether is SEPERATE from his ability to jump insane heights and have cheesy anime clashes against the Warrior of Darkness... which throws a wrench into a lot of RPC's head canons about aether in combat (like EVERYONE is an aether user, be it gladiator or mage.)

If I am just trolling the Forgotten Knight/Quicksands/Carline Canopy for solo people, I will toss an emote tell at them first, if they choose to respond in tell or bring it into public, then the game is on in their chosen venue, if they ignore, move on. If I am witness to a scene that seems pertinent to my character but clearly something that is planned, I tend to message a "Hey, my character is an insufferable white knight and usually won't stand by while this happens, can I show up or must I vacate myself from the area?" I usually leave if the response is the latter, in order to avoid a clash of character since I tend to heavy rp more than normal RP, my character is going places for reasons so I need to readjust. I tend to be VERY receptive of people who approach me while I am solo, if I am currently in an RP scene and some random comes up I tend to ignore them unless genuine effort is put into their posts (I've never really experienced someone stepping into a scene that wasn't just a troll trying to get a reaction) or they are tangentially related to the person I am rp'ing with.

Echo Apparently uniquely manifests in each person according to Krile. Not only that, but it seems past warriors of light were much stronger than you were if their strength is proportional to the light crystals they possessed. I have my suspicions of Artoirel, he may mean well but I feel he may go the path of darkness due to Edgemont visibly favoring Haucherfant and then calling Aymeric his son as well. We got to see a lore use of teleport via the Dark White mage (that sounds so dumb) Nidhogg's posse apparently up and vacated along with Nidhogg if I undertsood Hraesvelgar properly, and Vidofnir's appearance will toss everyone in Ishgard into a tizzy and I have a feeling destroying the ascians is something akin to the Pheonix Force or Galactus, they are forces of nature and even though the Warriors Of Darkness tried to destroy them before, it only led the world to ruin/ created more ascians.
