"Ugh I need to update my character's Wiki"
Kamome replied to Berrod Armstrong's topic in RP Discussion
Hey, that sounds great! I would love to RP with you. I'll check out your wiki today before I get home and friend you when I get online. I am definitely looking for smuggler connections! The atoll idea is very cool—it's possible (because they're around the same age, too) that Kamome would have met her even before she left Doma; her family led a small trading company. And lala connections!! Especially roguishly-inclined lala connections. > -
Oh, this looks really great. I'll be on Kamome Greywing in an hour if you're sending out pearls. I'll check for you too! Thank you for having this LS!

Personal Profile Character Name: Kamome Greywing; "Gull" Gender: Female Race: Hyur [Doman] Domestic Profile Civil Status: Undocumented Refugee Place of Residence: Cliffperch, the Goblet Occupation: Aspiring Adventurer Free Company: Aeon Social Profile Kamome is a fairly recent immigrant to Eorzea who arrived illegally on an illicit trading vessel originating in Doma. She has come to Eorzea and found herself indentured by the privateers she secured passage with. She now works as a heavily-indebted laborer on the docks, trying to pay for her freedom. She fishes and cooks for herself, but hasn't ICly joined the guilds. She also knows how to fight with her fists and with knives from having to fend for herself on the long journey from Doma, but she is not a natural melee fighter at all. She hates Garleans with a very intense passion and her primary goal in life is to earn her freedom and become an adventurer, having heard the bards sing of the Warriors of Light and their battle with Garlemald. She is very naive about Eorzea (she has lived all her life in a small village) and very much idealizes adventurers. Meta Profile Kamome has now joined an FC and is well on her way to becoming an adventurer! I'm still Limsa-based and you'll see me around on Kamome near the Fisherman's Guild and Rogue's Guild fairly often over the next weeks! I play weeknights from 5-11pm PST, with a bit of variation. I should be on most weekends for long stretches. Looking forward to meeting more Lominsans soon!

Yatagahn Trading Consortium Grand Opening!
Kamome replied to Aduu Avagnar's topic in Chronicled Events
Is this going on tomorrow (Friday the 23rd)? Nice poster with the Eorzean script btw : D -
That makes sense--the LSes run pretty big so far from what I've seen. Everyone has been really helpful so far. I think I'll just wait for the day I join an FC down the line for voice chat. : D
-
Do we have a Mumble/Vent/voice chat at all? If not, are there any for Balmung out there? While I learn the game I just wanted a good OOC voice group to learn with/hear from.

Sunk 150 hours in to DA:I over the Christmas holidays in a completionist playthrough. Loved it so much. I thought Morrigan and Leliana were done so, so well. I really didn't like the Dalish in DA:O and DA2 but loved how their lore was turned on its head in DA:I and really enjoyed playing a Dalish Inquisitor. So fitting. Sera and Vivienne are amazing, too. So divisive and so brilliant. The rooftop cookie scene... Oh man.

*lore clarity glowwwww* Thanks for entertaining all the questions! Especially re: the names. And yes, surname = last name. ; ) Can't wait for the expansion lore bombs. Hopefully if all the new Far Eastern crafting items are any indication we will get some more Doma lore, too.
-
Oh, had another thought re: the Doman language. Maybe the language really has phased out/become archaic judging by the NPC surnames we see in the Ninja quest: Moonrise, Sunrise, Redbeak, etc. I feel the fact that Domans seem to have surnames in line with the language of the rest of Hydaelyn shows at least some distance from the Doman native language, even though all of their forenames are Doman (at least from what I have seen). Are there any NPC examples of Domans with actual Doman or Japanese surnames?
-
Welcome to Balmung, Gerik! What job and starting city did you choose? I was on Tarnished Coast in GW2 as well! Couldn't really get in to the lore, myself, either. I played GW1 and really preferred the world state in that game over GW2's. Good times, though.

She dresses that way for two reasons. One being an entirely game related design flaw, they introduced her long before they had a model to represent her, so they just used a Miqo'te female and slapped on a custom made set of gear and scaly tail to show she wasn't a Hyur. She more or less states the reason she dresses like that though is because it's customary for Ninjas, it has nothing to do with her race as some people here seem to believe... she has a freaking scaled tail and horns protruding through her hood, she isn't fooling anyone I don't care how Ninja she is. Oh. That makes more sense now... Hm, I wonder how common Au Ra are in Doma... Isn't Dravania geographically on the other side of Ishgard, pretty far west?
-
I think your assumptions are pretty solid, Warren. Also, yeah, just started the Rogue quests last night... I know what you mean, haha. Good point about the Resistance. Also, Tsubame and Oboro say they are from a small village, too, and they (discounting the possibility of the Echo for now) speak with some seriously fluency/formality. It seems to me, too, that Doman would be kind of archaic as Latin became over time--used for specialty purposes and referencing their own native arts and culture (as a colonized nation is wont to do). Purely speculation on my part, too, though. My worries are assuaged, though. Yay! : D
-
I would be careful RPing too closely to RL Shinto--even though it has been confirmed that Domans practice a religion very similar to Shinto, we still don't know anything about the organization of that religion. I'd also be careful RPing an Au Ra Doman, just because I'm assuming there is a reason Yugiri has to keep herself covered up even in the company of her Doman compatriots.
-
Thanks to all of you--that makes things a lot more clear. My character is something of a Doman country bumpkin, though her family were traders--but because the Ninja quest NPC's talk about the Doman language in the context of some select words and terms, maybe Garlemald has pushed for people to speak the common language or maybe Doman is just a somewhat archaic language now. I guess it's not really worth dwelling on too much? Especially with the kind of tacit plot-device the Echo has become, judging by what you said, Sounsyy. I'm not keen on explicitly RPing the echo or the MSQ at all, so I think I'll just go with Warren's point that there aren't really examples of language barriers, whether this is due to the player character's Echo or not. Thanks again--really wanted to sort that out in my head before hopping into my first Balmung RP. :3
-
Quick question-- Does the Echo still allow for adventurers to understand foreign languages? Is this still part of the lore or was it scrapped/1.0-only? Do most of you RP the Echo? I saw this was asked before in a much older thread, but wanted to get the current status. I'm wondering because I'm getting ready to RP my main, who is a fairly fresh Doman immigrant (~2-3 months) and she would still be struggling with a new language. I want to begin RPing her tonight but this is the last thing I am stuck on. I might just have to tweak her backstory a bit and make her a less recent immigrant.

A Brief PSA on the issue of clogged worlds.
Kamome replied to No Longer Exists's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Eek wait a second--alts take up server space but they don't prevent new people from making characters, right? That's just the number of people currently online? (;゜0゜) -
Probably sounds like I should invest in a new wired keyboard then. I kept inputting letters and getting like a huge spam of letters for each I pressed: "nicccce to meettttt yyyou" etc etc. Thanks again for all the help guys. Going to try and keep this thread relatively clean for updates to the directory page in the future now.
-
I remember! Also remember your input on my how2doma thread. I wanted to say it last night but thought it would be too creepy: Kellach is a beautiful, beautiful man. GL with Monk! ( T_T)\(^-^ )

Seriously, y'all are way too pretty. Ruining the time-honored stereotype of unattractive gamers. This forum:

Tru dat. I did the Return to Vana'diel campaign over the summer for a week and kinda wish I hadn't. So sad and empty. ; ; Even the San d'Oria city music couldn't cheer me up. And thanks for the welcome, Aaron!

Hi RPC! This is kinda redundant, but... Wanted to post here as a formality.^^ I've been on this forum for less than a week and in game less than two days but I've already met so many of you! To those I haven't, and those who are also posting in this subforum, too, I wanted to extend a warm greeting! Couldn't be happier to be here. Love the game (or at least the ten levels I've played of it...) and I am a veteran (2004-2009) of the grindy garden of Eden that was FFXI, my first MMO. Hoping to play this game for the next five years, too! I have two mains right now: Rosalind (Ul'dah) and Kamome (Limsa) and a ridiculous 6 other alts who are just basically RP NPC fodder (mostly because I went nuts when Balmung opened on Tuesday for an hour). Here is my user page on the RPC Wiki, where you can find my character profiles. I wrote way too much: https://wiki.ffxiv-roleplayers.com/pages/User:Rosalind I am a digital artist and also a compulsive screenshotter, and keep two FFXIV tumblrs to archive character artwork, stories, screenshots and such. Nothing's up yet, but feel free to follow me: http://kamome-ffxiv.tumblr.com or http://rosalind-ffxiv.tumblr.com Anyway, that's enough about me. Let me know if you played FFXI too! I was on Asura and Diabolos. Also let me know if you have an FFXIV tumblr! I will follow you! Can't wait to meet more of you. I am stupidly happy that FFXIV has such a strong RP community. -Kamome/Rosa/call-me-whatever Edit: Oops! Forgot to add my forum directory post: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=9741

Also wanted to add that if I go as my trader character, she doesn't ICly know much more combat than the Bio spell. Therefore I am completely fine of she gets injured, etc. Edit: Oh, misread the OP. That works perfectly well, too. Hope this comes together!

Oh man, this is awesome! My main in Ul'dah is a merchant/trader character. She usually travels to Limsa for her chosen trade, but the Shroud works for her, too. The Conjurer's Guild would probably be her destination. I also have an utterly immoral alt in Ul'dah who is a mercenary but wouldn't be above working for bandits. She's pretty strapped/desperate/unsavory. I think the trader role would work best for me, but I can do either! Looks like a superb idea. I'll be online as Yvane Ashdale (the merc) tonight if you want to add me in advance. (^ω^)

Hey! Like we talked about I am still really getting my bearings but I have an alt that Keil might be friends with. I also have an Ul'dahn merchant who regularly hires bodyguards and has a track record of taking advantage of Ala Mhigan refugees because she's a cheapskate and many of them are desperate. My Gridania alt is an elezen aspiring lady-knight type based loosely based off of my San d'Orian main from FFXI. I haven't decided if she is a recent Ishgardian immigrant or her family has been in the Shroud for a few generations, but she is both in the Lancer's Guild and would possibly recognize Keil's surname(?) because she would probably be at least acquainted with other Ishgardians in Gridania. The Elezen is named Valenne Hauteclaire and is at Lv1 because I just made her yesterday, but if you want to RP I should be playing her this weekend. The Ul'dahn character is named Rosalind Westwind and her wiki profile is in my sig if you are looking for some kind of employer for Alicen. Basically, she is a crazy book merchant/hack historian who raids abandoned settlements for things to sell out of her junk/book cart. ICly she is a horrible fighter who just poisons anything threatening and runs away. And there's always Kagome, who you know is my main, if Keil comes to Limsa sometime soon. She's basically a refugee character who is driven by working her way out of Limsa's underbelly right now. Once I get Lv15 rogue on her, I'll be traveling around with her and we can RP then if you're still Gridania-based on him! Thanks for all your help in-game and re: PS4 controls! (^ω^)

Another thought occurred to me: Why not play a half-Ishgardian? If your character's father was a former Ishgardian, exiled or seeking refuge in Gridania/Ul'dah/Limsa, it would make complete sense that your character could have a Keeper/Seeker mother and be idealistic as all hell about Ishgard from hearing his father's stories. He could want to become a lancer and emulate Ishgard's legendary dragoons. Maybe his father still loves his homeland even though he had to leave and only speaks of the romanticized, good things to his son? Maybe his father was just a farmer who couldn't stay in Ishgard because of the eternal frost that has descended on the region? His reasons for leaving don't need to be as dramatic as a heresy accusation. There are quite a few ways to fit what you want in to the lore—but it doesn't always fit so cleanly. Let the lore work for you! (=´∀`)人(´∀`=)
