  1. While I am working on my character wiki I wrote this very small lore page for my ideas about the Marmot Tribe. I tried to make it very open so it doesn't conflict with anyone's lore about their M'-named miqo'te character. If anyone wants to use this as inspiration or as a citation within their wiki page please do and please feel free to edit it as you see fit. I tried to make a tribe that was unique from what we see in U' tribe in Sagolii and to show more diversity in miqo'te tribes that is reflected in how many live in Limsa Lominsa not as hunters but as regular citizens: https://wiki.ffxiv-roleplayers.com/pages/Marmot_Tribe Please give me some lore advice if you have any I am so new to the lore of FFXIV and trying my best to learn it! Thank you and I hope you find it interesting -M'isha
  2. Sorry I didn't see your post earlier! I did all my classes despite knowing about armory system... I'm just really stubborn about leveling everything together for gear consistency... Even the crafts too! Soon I'm sure this method will exhaust me and I'll finally pick my main... But stupid stubborn completionist is just my personality sometimes. X3 Thank you for your openness. I would love a /tell buddy to talk about the story with sometimes. Really appreciate your help! See you in game : )
  3. Welcome! I'm not on Gilgamesh, otherwise it would be great to have an RP buddy who is new like me! My RL friends also got tired of the game. : ( Good luck finding friends on Gilgy! It's a lot easier to make a new character on than Balmung, that's for sure. : x
  4. Personal Profile Character Name: M'ishakko 'M'isha' Runja Gender: Female Race: Miqo'te Domestic Profile Civil Status: Limsa Lominsa Place of Residence: Mizzenmast Inn Occupation: Herbalist's Assistant Social Profile M'ishakko, or M'isha as she tends to go by outside of her tribe, is a young healer, botanist and herbalist working in Limsa Lominsa. She and her herbalist teacher Z'ranmaia take turns tending their shop in the Upper Docks while the other travels for supplies. M'isha is additionally associated loosely with the arcanist's guild and helps to identify the origin of illegal somnus. She has studied arcane geometries of healing but prefers her tribe's traditional remedies. Her personality is helpful, nurturing and far less aggressive than many Miqo'te of tribal origin because the Marmot Tribe has adapted to frequent trade and relations with city people. She worships Nophica, a rarity among Seeker of the Sun Miqo'te, and she loves traveling to Gridania, cooking, healing others, gathering herbs, being in nature and has a fascination with the Miqo'te of the Keeper of the Moon tribes. She dislikes very cold weather and getting wet in the rain as well as very rich meats like aldgoat steaks. Meta Profile I am a brand new player of FFXIV and am looking for other new players to enjoy the MSQ and low level content with. I am easygoing and friendly OOC and welcome all styles of roleplay as long as people are being kind to each other. I am looking for traveling/botany friend for IC adventures or IC scholar or white mage or general magic user mentor character. I'm in process working on M'isha wiki and tumblr and also hope to write Marmot Tribe lore with other players if possible for fun. Please send me a /tell whenever you like in-game and we can be friends! OOC I like practicing my skills in dungeons and FATE grinding because I level all the jobs.
  5. So interesting. The forum developers really love the details of this world and it makes me happy. I think will go with M'isha after all, too. Thank you all for giving me an idea how everyone will pronounce the name. I think every option is pretty easy and nice. My hope is that non-RPer will be able to get the name too. Last poster--let me just see if I have it right--your name is said like "Kah-kai-yah"? And before that it's "Lee-hee-tah"? If I will be playing a miqo'te I will say the names right!!
  6. Helps a ton! It's like you actually speak miqo'te! :surprise: Thank you again!
  7. Hello RPC forum, I have a simple question while I finalize my character name. I see the placement of 'h' everywhere in miqo'te names. I am stuck between three names: M'isha, M'hisa or M'ihsa. Which do you think looks most miqo'te? I see the "h" placed all over the place in relation to "I". I like M'isha because I think it's easiest for non-RPer to pronounce. What do you think?
  8. I spent my first month trying out so many races from Roe to Lala and back to Miqo'te again. I only haven't tried Au Ra because I don't own HW yet. For me it came to the charming way the developers have given life to miqo'te. The characterization of their tails and ears is so wonderful simply in terms of character animation. All of the races have great individuality I learned, but I could not forget the balance of cuteness and feistiness of miqo'te. I see many Au Ra lately, far more than miqo'te--this poll surprised me! I wish I saw more Elezen, personally. I think the culture is well-developed just like the Elvaan of FFXI.
  9. Just want to say your lore posts Sounsyy have been super thorough and great to read. Lots of lore resources for this game without a linlsehll between here and Gamerescape. Thank you two for the kind welcome. :3
  10. Love the look of this—in-game it's Sylvia Vale. I'll send a /tell when I'm online next, too.
  11. Seems like there is a lot of lore posts on the forum actually. Maybe that is good enough instead of a linkshell.
  12. Wow, I love your character wiki page! Gin is a really pretty name for silver-haired Doman character. Thank you for your advice. I am too new to join a free company maybe. I am thinking of starting out with just a linkshell. There are so many good FC to choose from from what I have seen examining other role players in Limsa Lominsa. Thank you. I hope to see you in game once I gain levels!
  13. I'm new to FFXIV as of early June. I'm a JRPG/SRPG fan coming to this world of Eorzea for the first time and hoping to find friends who discuss the world building and lore. I am currently Lv30 Warrior, Paladin, Scholar, Summoner, White Mage and Black Mage and love the story of the game so far. I am doing all of the class quests so I can learn more of the game's lore. I'm about half way through the main story quests on my White Mage. I am currently working on my character's story and how she fits in to the world and her eventual RP jobs and crafts. My friend recommended this forum to me and I can see it lives up to her admiration. Nice to meet you.
  14. I think the IC/OOC boundary is the precise reason many people do shy away from ERP or find it distasteful. Ideally, everyone could separate IC sexuality from OOC arousal, and it could just be objective storytelling. Too often, though, ERP is something many RPers see leading to OOC complications and mixed feelings. When I think of how I have seen ERP influence and even destroy communities of RPers due to IC/OOC bleeds of attraction, I do feel sad and a little disgusted. I actively do not allow this to influence my opinion of others nor do I criticize those who do participate, however, because I know this is based on my own experience and view of ERP as I have seen it over the years. Everyone's experience is different--but I think it's safe to say, universally, that because ERP is so intense in its sexual descriptions it does generally run a high risk of OOC/IC bleed. Edit: text size being weird
  15. I think both of your options described above align well with the lore and have interesting dramatic hooks. The second one, in particular, is a really nice spin on how to do tribal RP. The first option would probably give you two a lot more flexibility in how you play and RP with others, however. If you two do end up going with the second option, I can see that being a great starting point for RPing with others--personally, I think that would be a wonderful basis for an FC or I guess just a regular RPing group. Nice work!
  16. There are a lot of assumptions and unfounded accusations happening about the OP-OP in this discussion. He explicitly stated that he wasn't looking for OOC feelings to bleed through and that he has a wife. All we can do is take someone on their word, and we can choose not to participate in something if it raises red flags in our head. Acting abrasively, without evidence, especially colored by our past experiences, is just going to create endless, irrational conflict. That said, I'm with Faye on this one in that it makes me uncomfortable to seeing ERP OK and OOC female-preferred in the same solicitation. I don't know where this conversation can go, though, considering different things make different people uncomfortable. Something making you, personally, uncomfortable doesn't make it okay to lash out at someone, either. Personally, I am a woman and I like playing male characters, as well as female. It's wonderful to be able to write and play a compelling character of either gender because gender-blind casting isn't realy mainstream in popular entertainment.
  17. Tuesday, April 21st, 2015 Totally basing my conjecture on the FFXI expansion release date cycles! Rise of the Zilart: April 17th, 2003 Chains of Promathia: September 21st, 2004 Treasures of Aht Urghan: April 18th, 2006 Wings of the Goddess: November 20th, 2007
  18. Do you guys have a quick 'sell' for someone who has never played the Persona titles? I personally just never liked the art style, so never got into one. What's the series' greatest strength?
  19. Also. Take this! http://www.springhole.net/writing/marysue.htm
  20. There's a wealth of wisdom here. I want to reiterate Flickering Ember in saying we all self-insert and fulfill wishes in some fashion with RP. The first step in making creative RP versus self-insert RP is feeling that in yourself. Be honest with yourself, and suddenly you will find yourself seeing your character as more and more a separate entity. First off, I am a firm believer in "write what you know". In my experience, you are going to be /more/ at risk of getting stuck in the cycle of "what would I do in this situation?" RP if you don't know where your inspiration is coming from. For me, personally, it usually takes a couple read-throughs of my character's biography/wiki to pick out where I am deriving from. Your character is never going to be 100% original. Nothing creative is. Your first task as a creator is acknowledging those influences for yourself. Those influences might come from media, your own life, or people you know. My character Kamome, for example, I figured out after a few read-throughs, is heavily based on my maternal grandmother who immigrated to the U.S. from Korea in the 50s. My character Yvane somehow ended up vaguely similar to a friend of mine from the 9th grade who left a really strong impression on me. The first step in making a living, breathing character is identifying where your subconscious is drawing them from. You can work to further define them from there. Secondly, /do/ make a self-insert character. When I decide to RP in an MMO, this is the first thing I do. I ask myself: "what would I be if I were living in ______?" I think almost everyone thinks about this on some level, and if you're going to get it out of your subconscious, take a good long look at it! Then, simply don't play that character. I have a Dunesfolk in my character roster who is my Eorzean self, and I keep her there to remind me of that. Third, do lots of writing! Nothing makes RP more of a creative process versus self-insertion than serious writing. Lore research also does it for me. It gives me perspective of how the world actually works and exists in its own space, and suddenly everything seems more like a different world and other characters become chatacters, not actual people. The people behind the characters become more distinct. RP--learning how to RP--is continuous. We can always improve. We can always tell better stories! Always strive to better your RP--in the process I think you will learn a lot about yourself and about how you creatively express yourself. Over the past ten years, I have grown a lot as an RPer and a person, by thinking about my RP. And just be awesome to your friends. And even more awesome and patient with people who make you mad. A lot of the time they are dealing with some pretty dark stuff IRL. OOC hug breaks can change a lot. Edit: added a sort-of conclusion?
  21. Thank you for having me and hosting this, Sastra! I had a lot of fun. I hope Horsie got a big hug after that ordeal, hehehe. Sorry I had to run off! My life is not horribly amenable to uninterrupted RP lately. > See you guys around Eorzea! Thank you again! And Ember and Bryn you guys were awesome bandits.
  22. Oh, I did not know this. >_< I wonder if firearm tech will be magitek or just plain old engineering when Machinist hits... It would make sense if it was Garlean tech based on all the naval raiding of Garlean territory the Maelstrom/privateers do. Edit: tracked down the info on Merlwyb's guns for anyone else who is interested: "Merlwyb's two muskets, Death Penalty and Annihilator, were rumored to have previously been owned by the pirate king, Mistbeard. They are maintained using a rare lubricant from an aggressive plant called Night Shade, which is also used by Limsa Lominsa's cannons."
  23. I think firearms would probably be slightly unusual/taboo in Eorzea because Gunblades are a Garlean weapon: http://gematsu.com/gallery/albums/final-fantasy-xiv/september-15-2010/Final-Fantasy-XIV_2010_09-15-10_39.jpg http://gematsu.com/gallery/albums/final-fantasy-xiv/september-15-2010/Final-Fantasy-XIV_2010_09-15-10_40.jpg Gunslingers everywhere when Machinist hits though. This might be a cool way to RP transition into the new class for some characters. Maybe an ex-Garlean teaching Eorzeans how to shoot?
