  1. See you guys there! My merchant is Rosalind Westwind. I'll add you when I log in tomorrow morning!
  2. [Edit] Decided to hold off on raiding plans for the time being since you found a wealth of ninja goodness! Best of luck with the new roster! I'll be in touch once I hit Lv50! Thank you for being so open to new players!
  3. Mine is fine. Is it regional? I'm in Southern CA.
  4. Welcome! Let us know if you have any questions! Enjoy Balmung.
  5. Hey, I'm a new player, and looking to make Ninja my first Lv50. I'll probably be there around February 17-20th if all of my leveling goes as planned. Don't know if that's way too far into the future to be considered. I did endgame content in FFXI and GW2 and am looking to learn the endgame with a group of friendly players who value kindness and patience when I hit endgame late next month in this game. I'm very open-minded, thorough and a fairly quick learner. Let me know if you guys would be willing to mentor a new player from the low levels and I would love to get to know all of you.
  6. Hey guys! I made a Skype today for RP purposes—don't know if I'll use it often outside of OOC event-planning, but it's: kamome.greywing
  7. It's very important (in my opinion) to learn on Photoshop so that you become comfortable on the program. If you ever want to work in a professional capacity with digital art, PS has become the industry standard. If you are a hobbyist, and want to stay that way, SAI is awesome. It's surprisingly powerful, it has a huge user base and is constantly getting kick-ass updates. For tablets, wacom remains the best. I use an old Intuos 3 at home that I got when I was a kid, still, and it works perfectly and is still industry-grade good. For a starter wacom tablet, I love the pen & touch small series that they recently came out with. I use one for my mobile art station—it's light, tiny and looks good with most laptops: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=&sku=1002449&Q=&is=REG&A=details http://www.wacom.com/en-es/products/pen-tablets/intuos-pen-and-touch-small $99 for the tablet and $9.99/mo for Photoshop will get you off to an amazing start. Or you could go for SAI and get away with just buying a tablet. Welcome to the world of digital painting! It's so much better for your long-term health than oils!
  8. Updated today! Kamome is now integrated in the RP FC Aeon but I am always up for freelance RP on her and my other characters when I have the free time. She's on her way to becoming a proper adventurer now, so you'll see her around Limsa Lominsa a lot more now, if you're based there. As always, feel free to send any of my characters an OOC or IC Mog Mail or friend request. I'm always looking for more RP connections and am always open to collaborative storytelling! Yvane and Rosalind in particular are usually available for Ul'dah adventuring shenanigans. Yvane is now officially part of the organization Tylwyth Narah and can be hired out for general thuggery. I also always have the LS Friends of Momodi in my ear to see if there's anything going on in Ul'dah for Rosa or Yva. Here is Yvane's WIPpy wiki, for anyone in need of a scoundrelly merc: https://wiki.ffxiv-roleplayers.com/pages/Yvane_Ashdale See you in Hydaelyn!

  10. Hey! Just wanted to pop in and see if we've found our missing merc. I'm still able to do both merc or trader if we have another trader that comes along. ^^ Nako, I will try to catch you online this week on Rosalind, my merchant/magicky character if you still want to set up the trading partner precedent. See you guys on Thursday!
  11. It would be seriously physically dangerous for a Miqo'te, Midlander or Lalafell to have a Roegadyn's child, or even an Elezen's or Highlander's child. I mean, sex aside, there is just not enough physical room. IRL, both my little brother and I were premature c-sections due to the fact that my mom is a tiny 4'11" Korean lady and my dad is a giant 6'4" Swedish dude. Not fun for her. And that's just a little bit over a foot difference in height.
  12. Hm... I imagine it would work something like SWTOR party dialogue... Which... personally, my SO and I really disliked. It was irritating always feeling like you were randomly talking over your ally. It just ended up being less character development and dialogue for each of us.
  13. I think Roegadyn males and females have really beautiful, angular faces. Of all the races, honestly, they have some of the best facial bone structure. I've recently RP'd a lot, non-romantically, with a female Roegadyn and I think she's the most gorgeous character I've seen in XIV yet. Amazing cheekbones!
  14. "Her parents were academics who worked at the Milvaneth Sacrarium before it was destroyed. Therefore, she has been utterly /steeped/ in Dunesfolk culture since she was a kid. She sees herself, despite Midlanders having a pretty high class position in Ul'dah, as a minority within academic/religious life. Dunesfolk seem to utterly dominate the Sacrarium and the Ossuary. So she views Dunesfolk with utmost respect--having absorbed their sense of racial superiority through proximity. Somewhere deep down, she probably feels she will never be as intelligent as most Dunesfolk. Also, as a very non-physical, more intellectual/knowledge-driven character, she is romantically attracted to lalafell for their intellects. She's an example of a character who reacts to interracial conflict and competition by idealizing and emulating the higher status race rather than hating it." ^ My original/Ul'dah main is a Midlander girl who only has a romantic history with lalafell. I feel it's completely plausible that other races could and would be attracted to lalafell. I mean, they're the dominant race in Ul'dah. And they talk as if there aren't many racial barriers.
  15. Personally, I primarily play three Midlander Hyur women with very differing views on interracial relations: Kamome, a Doman immigrant from a very small village who has had next to zero contact with other races (excluding Garleans and, by extension, Highlanders) before arriving as a refugee to Limsa Lominsa. She rarely saw 'unmasked' Garleans, only one Garlean soldier who was racially a Highlander, so she has an ingrained fear of Highlanders, but understands their status as a fellow conquered people at the same time, making her view of them very conflicted, psychologically. She doesn't have /any/ context for Eorzean racial relationships and treats all non-Midlanders the same, basically--curiosity tempered with a cautious distance. Rosalind, a native Ul'dahn from a higher-class family. Her parents were academics who worked at the Milvaneth Sacrarium before it was destroyed. She's an example of a character who reacts to interracial conflict and competition by idealizing and emulating the higher status race rather than hating it. I guess somewhat of an Uncle Tom, if she was a more ambitious character. Yvane, another native Ul'dahn who's family comes from a military background. She's around a lot of Highlanders and Midlanders--they seem to make up a big portion of the lower ranks of the Brass Blades and Immortal Flames, with Dunesfolk apparently higher-up? So she's most comfortable around other Midlanders and assimilated Highlanders. Her character is strange because her family and social status have completely fallen through the floor, and she is basically living among the lowest of the low-class Ul'dahns. So, she's grown comfortable with Sagolii miqo's, refugee Highlanders, you name it. She is at the bottom so she can't afford to be racist. She's also an avid womanizer, and a very open-minded character to begin with, so she'll flirt with any woman she encounters, really. Regardless of race.
  16. With the above statements in mind, I always make the assumption that stigmas around interracial dating and marriage would vary between Ul'dah, Limsa Lominsa and Gridania. I.e., you'd see maybe more stigma between Elezen and Keepers of the Moon or Hyur and Keepers of the Moon in Gridania, between perhaps Dunesfolk and Plainsfolk in Ul'dah, or Hyur and Dunesfolk--so on and so forth. In Limsa Lominsa, the Sea Wolves make up both the majority of the 'bad guy' Pirates but also seem almost as populous and integrated into the power system as hyur--especially in the surrounding farms (though many there are former pirates). I still think there would be a lot of tension if a Sea Wolf and Hyur were together. That said, class and majority status also play a role. You'd probably have less interracial dating and marriage among the higher end of the spectrum: Dunesfolk/Midlander in Ul'dah, Midlander/Sea Wolves in Limsa, and Wildwood/Midlander in Gridania. I think we see a lot of flirting with and sexualization of miqo'te across Ul'dah and Limsa Lominsa because they are, from all appearances, something of a lower-class race. It really seems apparent with the 'prostitute' miqo'te NPCs in Limsa and the dancers in Ul'dah. It makes sense, too, because of the relatively recent/ongoing integration of miqo'te into urban culture. All this said-and-done, we are, canonically, adventurers from outside of Eorzea. Does the player character even have a stake ICly in this old wounds and conflicts? What are the histories of interracial conflict in Othard and elsewhere? Sharlayan? Y'shtola seems very well-integrated and respected as a miqo'te from Sharlayan. From Koji-Fox's other comments, interracial marriage and breeding seems almost like it would be common within Garlean territory because they recruit and indoctrinate all races and essentially treat them as equals because the ultimate goal is to earn your Garlean citizenship. /endramble
  17. Kage mentioned this above, but here is the full text from the panel at fan fest on Koji-Fox's lore explanation for the lack of accepted interracial couples: From FFXIV's Head of Localization (English): A: Some of the lore makes it sounds like the conflict between the Hyur and Elezen got pretty heated while others make it sound like a long standing tension. What was the extent of those hostilities? MCKF: I touched on this a little bit today in the live stream and there was a question about relationships between the races and crossbreeding. A lot of it doesn’t happen because while we have all these races living together in Eorzea, there’s this tension between them. That’s there because they have these histories of fighting for a long time and then not really making up, but agreeing to disagree and living together because it’s better than living by ourselves and being more susceptible to Garlean attacks or whatever. We work together because we have a common enemy type of thing. Most of the races don’t really like each other and it”s gone on through multiple Eras. There are times when Eorzea has been more populated by one race over another and there will be conflict there. With the Hyur and Elezen, that’s very recent. In the sixth astral era, Elezen migrated in and in that era they were like “we’re the first ones here!” even though they weren’t, but they were the first at the beginning of the sixth astral era and they settled and of course the pesky Hyur who are everywhere come in and the Elezen are like “oh my god we left you that whole continent up there why are you here!” and the Lalafell come in and you have these cycles of clashing and moving part and that gets ingrained in their society and their racial cultures. There’s always these power struggles, you’ll have times when the Lalafell rise for whatever reason and they’ll side with one group and then turn on another group and that’s one of the reasons there’s not a lot of interracial relationships because even though they’re living in the same towns it’s like well yeah… but you’re an Elezen. F: I can just imagine some young Elezen bringing home a Hyur woman and the Grandma going “Why couldn’t you have found a nice Elezen girl!” MCKF: There’s a lot of that going on. Like i mentioned in the stream, in the future we’ll have some characters that are half one race and half another and we’ll see how they’re treated in society and quests with that. http://gamerescape.com/2014/10/22/fan-fest-2014-interview-with-michael-christopher-koji-fox/
  18. Hi Ludger! I am new, too, as of last week. I think you speak so openly for a lot of people who struggle to make it on Balmung--it's a special place to be. I've been RPing for a long time, but the people on this server are so good and so numerous that I feel I am starting from the basics. The game itself... It's amazing. There is so much love put into the game and the world and it radiates out. I really hope you will love it like I have for the past week and half I have been playing. The best way to get started (from someone who spent weeks reading INSANE amounts of lore before even hitting Lv10 and was worried and obsessing about being good or being accurate) just... hop in. People are so nice, and the game is so wonderful that you will feel quickly overwhelmed with all the amazement this game has to offer. Take your time and don't worry. Read all the quests. They will teach you the true lore, not just interpretations. Read a lot, and, as a fellow introvert, take things slow and really absorb them. The experience is so immersive and rich--visually and narratively. I'm on a lot as the character Kamome Greywing and I am still learning the game, too. There is so much to learn for a beginner--more than in any MMO I have ever played. You are really brave for going for it and striking out on your own after usually playing with a friend. I'm sure you're already making a lot of new friends! See you in Eorzea! Kamome
  19. I feel the same. I haven't played since 2009 or 2010, but this past summer when I ran around for an hour during the Return to Vana'diel campaign the world felt very sad and empty without my old friends there, or really... anybody, for that matter. I'm happy FFXIV is now everything I could have ever hoped it would be.
  20. This is kind of a silly method, but it's how I've always gotten people to RP with me, at least, on some of my more outlandish characters... Have a really weird or comedic conversation with an NPC! Have an argument with a Brass Blade, flirt with Mylla the pretty Highlander gladiator boss, heckle Franz the Fair--it's a great way to show your RP availability without putting people under pressure to RP with you. Usually, they will hop right in. Orrr they will think you are crazy and ignore you. But usually the former, in my experience. The first time I ever MMO-RP'd was with an NPC in Selbina in FFXI--the weird old fisherman dude who you could barely understand. Good times.
  21. Three aspects are factors for me on this topic: A. Personal Immersion Speaking from personal opinion as a very visual person, nothing creates immersion like actually watching my character fight or craft. Even if you aren't IC 100% of the time (I'm not because I like leveling all the jobs, not just my RP ones), watching your character at work in what they actually do as people gives you a frame of reference for how combat and crafting actually look and 'feel' like in the game world. It adds an extra sensory layer to my immersion and helps me get in to character. So does seeing my character in their crafting or battle gear! Of course, some people prefer to use the game as a platform to express their own imaginations, and that's the flip side of my personal preference which subordinates my creative expression to Square's. B. Quest Lore While you could absolutely hop on to FFXIVDB and read all of the crafting and combat quest text transcripts, I have a much more entertaining time watching the NPC cutscenes and such while getting the story for my RP class. Personally, I don't like literally using the job quests as my own story, but they are awesome reference material for writing your own story. They really give you a sense of what the job actually is and does in the game world! For example, you would never know the Rogue Guild is actually a super-lawful organization in Limsa Lominsa unless you did the quests (or read them online, as I first did). C. External Response Perhaps above all, for me, personally, I love reacting in-character to the in-game stimuli around me. If someone is loudly hammering away at a sword or helm, I like for my character to take notice as they pass through the markets. If someone is dressed in impressive armor or shabby rags, I like for my character to make assumptions or inferences accordingly. RPing sensory stimuli make RP more interactive for me and also makes it easier to find things to improv and bring up in conversation. It also makes walk-up RP easier! That's my three cents. Totally personal preference, but a perspective for you to consider! I have lots of fun with it. (^ω^)
  22. Looks very cute! I will stop by if I am back in time.
  23. Welcome! Sounds like you've already done a lot for the ambiance of Balmung. See you in-game sometime!
  24. I'll be online for most of Saturday! Tonight my play time has been sabotaged by work-related... work. > Hope to see some of you at the Grindstone, too! I think I'm going to check it out on my merc alt for a bit tomorrow night. Cheers!
