Unbeliever, savage, barbarian, ignorant child, heretic, dragonspawn, bastard, mongrel. I fear Virella's insults are all very much Ishgardian themed. She's boring like that But I felt it was a nice addition to the thread regardless!

Once more, missing the point entirely that a good roleplayer would not get insulted themselves over things a character does. People with who can think twice would realise that this is just a character doing it, that it is common in Eorzea, and that is does not reflex the insults back onto them in real life and there is no reason to be offended. Tis roleplay. Not real life. Funnily enough my whole RP group exists out of people who are far from the norm, however you never ever hear anyone complaining about this topic. In fact, we embrace it, because hey, we are roleplaying, not real life playing. If you cannot divert IC from OOC, well, you shouldn't be roleplaying. Edit: After seeing Mod post, I'm going to step out of this conversation. I felt like I made my point clear.

@ Shoshopu Racism in Eorzea has A B S O L U T E L Y N O T H I N G to do with R E A L L I F E. If you cannot divert that. Well, maybe roleplaying is not for you. If you are overly sensitive to these things, and cannot once more, divert roleplay from real life insults, perhaps it is time to move on to another setting, or maybe stop roleplay all together. And it is a far stretch to compare sexual themes with racism, seeming Eorzea has a completely different stance on it all. I get really sad people trying to convert roleplay to hugboxes due to confusing real life issues with those find in Eorzea. Racism is a terrible thing irl, however it is just a part of it here in the lore *shrug*. I really doubt SE put this part of the lore it in to hurt people on purpose, as you seem to suggest. I should write a bible how a setting =/= real life & Character's mindset =/= player's mindset. And remind people constantly that getting insulted over IC things OOC does not make you a good roleplayer; in truth these type of people are the worst type you can run into due to well, playing themselves, applying their morals to a setting, and not their character's. That said, your character does not HAVE to be racist ect, but do not start going "But x might got offended OOC." if people touch themes completely valid in a setting, were you have an issue with due to irl reasoning.

It may just be me, but I find that these type of posts indicate what I was pointing out before; the good old IC is not OOC confusion. I ask you, if you do not feel comfortable with these themes in the setting, why does one roleplay in FFXIV and not jump to another game, setting or anything, where these topics do not come up? It just seems strange to me to stay willingly in a setting if you can not set apart IC and OOC if these topics get onto your nerves.

As an Ishgardian roleplayer, I really feel the urge to chip in this conversation; sadly enough a lot of Ishgardian roleplayers, not all mind you, go the Haurchefant route, and seem to forget that this type of character at the moment seems to be very rare. Give a look around you in Ishgard and Coerthas, mostly of the time your character gets spat upon. Heck certain types of people (magic users, races) have been straight out executed for heresy in Ishgard for being themselves, and not doing something wrong at all. Sadly enough people wish to be friend with everyone on an OOC level, and really confuse that your characters hatred towards x IC is just that; and completely shy away from roleplaying a racist character. Heck, I even had angry tumblr post about me due to Virella being an obnoxious shit to said person's char. I can very much see why people shy away from it, due to so many, even if they claim they do not, get offended about it on an OOC level. It is such a damn shame it has to be that way though. Meanwhile I found that if you pull the racist card off well enough, you can have so many interesting conversation due to it! Heck, Autumn War is always a lovely thing Virella starts bragging around when Ala Mhigan folks are there. She makes stupid comments about Miqo'te and the dancing girls she seen in Ul'dah, questions how Roegadyns do not walk into things constantly, complain about tripping over Lalas. She makes snide comments to Ala Mhigans in the terms of "Do you not have a city to be taken from you?" and the Domans get the same treatment. Highlanders often get the savage, barbarian insults thrown at them, Au Ra get the whole "Not sure if you are heresy or not" treatment ect. People start to argue with you, some will try to defend their ways, some will get right out angry, others will get upset, some will just laugh it off, just to name a few possibilities. There are so many possibilities for roleplay due to making these comments. Heck, it doesn't even need to be full on insulting, but a subtle stab, or even an accidental slip of words, is often enough to fan the fires. Having an ignorant character can be tons of fun around the right crowd. And with Ishgardians you get the whole heresy claims as well. What is something what can possibly have massive consequences for the other party's char. I find that OOC community is a thing what needs to take place in that case though. In any case, I wish there were more people who roleplayed the whole race/nation pride/racism more, but I can fully understand if people would not in certain cases. Especially due to people forgetting that Eorzea is racist as fugde, and the IC=/=OOC confusion. Roleplay as you want, but respect both type of roleplayers! Bow out of need be. Hey there! Personally I would avoid anything with the beasttribe and slavery; especially due to them seeming to temper their victims, and I there is no cure for tempering. But I'm not 100% sure on it. My interest in the four old primals and their story is nearly non-existent, but I believe that was a part of that particular beasttribe. Just go for Ala Mhigo scum! Although admittedly he has to be at least... 26 or so to be born there (I'm bad at calculating okay?!) Can always be born in Little Ala Mhigo as well As for lastnames, I believe that they are names who tell something the person has done in life worth of note; can be passed on to offspring, who in turn can shed the last name again and change it later on in life. Can also be a trait of sorts, so Swifthawk is surely a fitting name for a highlander! That said, my highlander lore is meh at best, and I know a bit about the Ala Mhigan folk, but that is about it, so I may not be the best to give you advice on this. Gay couples seem to be no problem whatsoever in FFXIV! But. BUT. Interracial buggery is a thing what is highly frowned upon! (You find a gay miqo'te/hyur couple eventually, and their sexuality was no problem for their people, however the interracial love was) The marriage you see ingame is taken with a grain of salt; I have a hard time seeing that interracial marriages happen all that often, if not super duper rare due to Eorzea being super racist. But overall in lore it is okay to sleep around with whoever you want, as long it ain't another race (and of course, that happens as well! But people may respond not so positive on it IC!) Yup did all of the above; checked my other chars. Oddly enough I only get 5 feathers for one of my friends being subbed over 150 days. The rest hasn't come in yet. Guess we will just have to wait and see D:

That said, there is an issue currently on going with the feathers/fistbump emote not being distributed at the same time. I got some feathers from recruiting people, but not fistbump emote yet.

The part you speak about DPS is the sole reason why I run my roulettes on my DPS only. I really, really grew to dislikes bad DPS over the past few months; admittedly I was spoiled due to running my experts only with my old FC, aka with players who knew their class, and actually tried to pump out some damage. (in truth we were all very competitive about who could do the most damage!) I really wish we could just slap our ACT logs into party chat at times. Not that I need them to prove someone is doing shit damage. I know how fast mobs die when I'm on my dps, and how quickly it goes from thereon depends onto the other damage dealer. However they do not seem to believe me when I point out they could maybe look in their damage, because the damage feels low (and add with other people it goes a lot quicker, and that I know my damage is just fine). Raw numbers would at least dispel that illusion of them thinking they are playing their class right. But I guess I will get branded an elitists these days for wanting people to know how to play their class. I am not asking for you to play it top notch, using off GCD skills after using an instant ability, stutterstepping like a boss ect, but simply keeping your rotation going and have a tiny bit of knowledge of your class.

I do believe they have squires, if you go check in Coerthas, I believe you can find one at Whitebrim. Believe they are trained in lance, sword and bow, but I'm not 100% sure on that. Skirmishes do seem to be a thing between houses. All the house provide their own knights it appears. However I can see joined training things happening at times, but far from being regular. As for the rest of your question? I was actually wondering about that myself earlier today, as I lost all my info when my PC exploded.

Uuuh. I think it is possible to do this. But was the ST mi'qote not more some very lone descendant? However it really comes in the too much of a special snowflake area for me personally. There is many more ways to make your character interesting, and heck if you really want to be something with an odd heritage, give it a drop mixed blood of the existing races, that seems a way more lore friendly approach Heck you do not even need be something interracial to make your character interesting. You can always make a rumoured descendant of x baddie or known hero.

Personally I am still of the opinion that interclan hyur (mid/highlander/garlean) can just happily breed, although the Garlean one obviously one getting a lot of hatred in Eorzea. Elezen + hyur I can still see somewhat being passable in certain regions, Ishgard coming in mind from the MSQ. Mostly because the offspring can either pass for hyur or elezen if they wanted to cover up their heritage (sadly enough the half-elzen NPC we saw was just a midlander with sharp pointy ears slapped upon, but who knows they come in various shapes. I would assume so!) As for an Au ra/miqo'te child? I'm sure it can be born, but I'm certain it will not make it far most likely due to eorzea's racist background. Heck they cast interracial couples out of their society, I cannot imagine how terrible the actions will be with interracial children. Unless they plan to have it locked forever inside. Perhaps that is me having a bit of a darker/realistic view of Eorzea then most are willing to play off. Being subjected to a char of mine having a halfbreed of her own, sadly enough all I had was positive reactions. However that said she is smart enough to not to tell who the father is, pass it off to be some random elezen who knocked her up. It can be done but... it really depends onto how well you handle it, not much more I can say. PS: Having your char raising eyebrows at that relationship is perfectly valid. Virella would spew heresy all over that in a heartbeat (hypocritical, but hey).
