Astrologians practice ancient Sharlayan arts. Not to be confused with Astrologians employed in the Observatorium. I'm aware of that, but Ishgardian astrologians are presently being played. Virella is one, I think. Very much so! I know one other as well, Katriane Hiver, one of Vi's friends/colleagues. I cannot wait to find out more about AST though, I pray the Ishgardians simply 'stole' the Sharlayan art, given they are dabbling into Magitek as well; seems they are happy enough to grab a hold of other crafts and what not to stand against the Dravanian Horde. But that is all speculations at this point. In any case, I got THM as a 'back up' class for Virella in any case. Huraay for scholary type of characters ey?

If you're aiming at PCs; there are plenty of non-dragoons around! In fact, I know more non-dragoon PCs than dragoons as it stands. Mostly sword and shield wielding knights in truth. As for NPCs? We got plenty of those as well. Just because they hold a lance doesn't mean they are dragoon after all! Sword and shield wielding scum are there as well, conjurers, bowmen and I even spotted pugilists in the 2.55 scenario!

Your skin colour versus your character's skin colour
Virella replied to Seriphyn's topic in RP Discussion
I'm just as pale as gingers, so ehm. Virella is actually a tad more tanned, and she's already pretty pale skinned! And I just roll with whatever suites the character of the race I'm roleplaying -
Pouch with nonsense into it. Gil, linkpearl ect. And another holds her AST cards for the time being! Not all that exciting I fear.

*flops about to add tiny bits not said yet* Only constellation we now know of is the Halls of Halone. A silver star pattern within the sky. *flops back out thread*

All I can speak if for the Ishgardian, they find it a waste your craft onto any else than the Dravanian Horde. Astrologian NPCs back in the Observatorium make this pretty clear! But as for personal choices, and non-Ishgardians? I wouldn't exclude doing such things. However, it seems the Ishgardian lot are very much against using their craft for non-Dragonsong stuff.

*wave* If you ever decide to jump ship and come Balmung, feel free to give me a poke! I would love some more Ishgardians to roleplay with

[8:25][1] I'm kinda wondering if Rhalgr and Halone's relationship is like strong independant warrior queen and her tourettes-ridden father with a drinking problem. Quality discussions within the Ishgard LS, see what you are missing out onto!? I admit that made me giggle way too much. That said, we could still use more people to join our merry band of Ishgardians, heretics and other scum!

Reasoning for irregular race/nationality combinations
Virella replied to Seriphyn's topic in RP Discussion
Faye, stop digging your grave here. You cannot call people out for their lore/roleplaying exceptions while you are roleplay a huge exception to lore with your interracial relationship, especially with a miqo'te male. Stop being a hypocrite. -
Reasoning for irregular race/nationality combinations
Virella replied to Seriphyn's topic in RP Discussion
Hm. This is gonna get reeeaaal awkward as I show my lack of world culture. Real-world France has a reputation for being similarly xenophobic. Preliminary glances at wikipedia of all places gives us this link detailing an "award" given out to prominent French folks who embrace - gasp! - the English language. It's similar to the Razzie Awards, only instead of being fun at the sake of bad movies, it's mocking someone for not being French enough. Similarly, this link discusses how internally, France is also phobic against itself; speaking a dialect or language other than French in school is grounds for punishment. It's not too far-fetched to think that Ishgard would be as accepting to "lesser races" as the French are to fat, cheeseburger eating Americans butchering their language. And then letting that guy join their special forces. That said, we have Lucia, who is Garlean. Ishgard is very, very, very closed off, but it appears everyone can get in their good graces and work themselves up into their society. BUT. I would say these are very much exceptions, and you really, really need to work hard to get at those places. They wouldn't just train the first person passing by to become a dragoon. Oh no, I imagine they got to dedicate themselves for years to Ishgard before even sure a thing is considered. Not to mention I've got this personal headcanon that becoming a Dragoon takes years and years and years of training, starting from a young age, and their powers are shrouded in mystery, even to other Ishgardians. However, I'm really not fond of those exceptions, I'd sooner see people who fit in line with the majority of the NPCs. I won't shun people for roleplaying something what wouldn't fit their race/job combo, but I will raise a few eyebrows, and let my character react accordingly. -
You should! Everyone is staring at him. Is this when he called dragons 'Flappies'? And very possible. Drunk Domri makes zero sense, was fun though <3!

Lore drops concerning Dragoon via the Heavensward Opening:
Virella replied to Zelmanov's topic in RP Discussion
That's the change in profile I was discussing. Each and every reaction has a reaction. You cannot simply turn about and hurl something that large like that while midair and not lose airspeed, not increase the effect of drag (which is a weird combination of gravity and airflow that can inadequately be described as "the opposite of the combination of lift and thrust"), and not suddenly drop. The action, you'll note, is downward. It's an arrest of forward momentum followed or coincided with a drop. This sort of thing happens all the time with slope-soaring gliders: if you suddenly change a glider's attitude and either nosedive or spin it into a nosedive, you're going to fall rather quickly. This is far different from a midair change in direction that, say, takes you from traveling northward to eastward on the horizontal plane. But enough about realism. Most folks seem to want the anime take. #bows out Don't think it is the anime take, more so a fantasy take instead of a logical/grim dark approach to it all. Laws of psychics don't really apply in any fantasy setting, you know? Embrace your inner (Final) Fantasy, cast your grimdark aside today! -
Lore drops concerning Dragoon via the Heavensward Opening:

That's the Ishgardian way of flirting, did you not know? And this topic pleases me greatly, although I've got nothing much more to add, but wishing for people to give us some more sources on where they pluck their information from! -
http://i.imgur.com/YYZSbqE.jpg[/img] Virella Douront - 26 year old Ishgardian astrologian. Common as dirt, and a rather shameless flirt at that. She gets along with about any one, provided they can deal with Ishgardian bigotry, and some casual racism. Currently allied with the Black Sun Vanguard, realising very well that the need of outsiders are needed in order to be victorious in the Dragonsong War, even if she won't admit this openly. However, in the end her loyalties lays the Observatorium and House Durendaire.
-
Yes, yes you should! We got plenty of people who can invite, and the more the merrier. That said, it appears the Observatorium's tavern is slowly becoming a regular spot for Ishgardians and co to hang out at after a day of dragonslaying is done.

Replace lord with Halone, this is abouts Vi's reaction onto Bri IM SORRY CERSEI IS MY MUSE AND LORD AND SAVIOUR FOR REACTION GIFS

Trading is still very much a thing, and they still manage to grow some food. There is a tiny plot of land in the Observatorium were you can see them working onto their soil, so they are very much capable of adjusting. Don't forget, the Ishgards are hardened people, a bit of snow is not going to stop them! As for clothing? Sheeps are a thing within Ishgard. They still mine as well, so weapons and armour are still being crafted. They really still got their own economy going on. It is not as if they would be completely lost without outside help, however, Ishgardians are very good at acting they don't need any help of outsiders, yet continue to import goods from adventurers and co. The snow simply didn't make things easier for them, but they are far from completely relying onto outside help, else they wouldn't be as cocky as they are. Anyhow this thread has plenty of leves and can explain things better then I can currently (I just woke up, okay???)!
