Welcome to the RPC & Balmung RP! Diving into a new form of RP can always be intimidating I imagine. I had never RPed before giving it a try in Rift which, horrible RP community there. Eventually made my way over to FFXIV and without knowing it at the time, upon logging in was right after a maintenance I guess as I managed to create a character on Balmung without even trying to, nor knowing what the serve was used for. But either way, was especially nerve wracking for me at first as I was completely green. Looking at the RPC here didn't make me feel much better when I'd see people talking about 5, 15,20yrs experience with various forms of RP. Lucky for people like us, Balmung is large enough you can almost always find what you are looking for, or people willing to help you out whether with lore advice, pvp or pve content. The RPC here is also an excellent place to measure how acceptable your character is according to the lore in-game. If you have any specific questions just feel free to post them, or post the concept you have for your character and see what others think. Someone will be sure to help you out.

I used to use the "Hey lemme know when you want to RP sometime" and always thought I was doing them a favor, until someone did it to me and I took it as "Hey I'm busy now so let me know some other time" lol. So now I just get straight to the point. Occasionally I'll send a tell if I don't see an emote or some sort of sign from them in awhile, just to make sure they are not afk. I think one thing that intimidates a lot of new Rpers is when they walk up and get no response. That usually causes a lot of self doubt and feelings of rejection when more then likely the player is currently afk.

Yes, the intent was to ease your nerves, not stir them up lol. Like said above, the point is, it's usually okay to walk-up and initiate RP. If you are approaching a group of people and want to join in, it's usually better to check first.

My biggest issue with starting RP in Balmung wasn't so much due to shyness as teh fear that I was interrupting others from some pre-planned RP they was waiting for. Once I learned that more often then not that's not the case, RP came a lot easier.

Good luck with your return! As far as Balmung always being locked, it's true! However it's well worth the transfer fee of $18.00 to move to Balmung. As far as tips/tricks to do so, ignore the part in teh trasnfer application where it says you cant transfer to a locked server. That's BS, it will let you. And teh 2nd tip is, if you plan to make alts, create all 8 character slots on one server, and tehn transfer them, all at once for teh one time fee of $18.00. The price does not go up/down per character so you can transfer a whole server for the same price as only moving one of them.

Hehe yeah, i tend to AFK there.. pretty consistently in the corner behind the leve NPC. I decided to make a new Raen for Celes and name change/fantasia the current one to be miqo! best of both worlds!
