  1. Many of them don't look like good candidates for transfer into the game unless they start allowing hair to have more polygons and bigger textures.
  2. This FC is now inactive due to lack of interest.
  3. Extended Royal Road + Balance + Celestial Opposition = 45 seconds of 10% damage buff for the entire party. The Minotaur in Fractal died before the second incubator.
  4. There was a ton at HoD's last tavern night. Although, I also recall being at an event where I and one other were playing Au Ra, so I suppose it could go both ways.
  5. I'm having a lot of fun with Astrologian but I can't justify bringing it to anything over Whitemage, even expert roulette.
  6. From what I understood it's a measure of total characters period, no qualifiers. I think the apparent disparity is due to Au Ra/Miqo'te being MUCH more popular with roleplayers than non-roleplayers.
  7. Honestly, I'm surprised that Au Ra is only 4% of the population. Most of that 4% has to be on Balmung. ~Album here~
  8. This, so much this. There's few things more cringe worthy in RP than a self ascribed "lady killer" who is anything but. Here's the thing about RPing labels such as "genius", "beautiful", or "popular". These labels are things that other people have the ability to bestow on you, labeling yourself such things doesn't really make it "real". In this topic's particular focus we're talking about "genius", so the rest of my commentary will be only about that one. Genius is not a scientific term. It's a social label that's applied to all sorts of different people for different reasons. A researcher who makes a breakthrough in his or her field can be called a genius, a football quarter back that is known for executing split second strategies that pay off might be called a genius quarter back, etc. Point is the label genius is earned, not really announced. In fact it comes across as extremely eye-rolling when someone does declare themselves a genius - or in this case label their character one. I'll briefly touch on the idea of "genius level IQ". These people do exist, but they are often described this way alongside being discovered as a child prodigy with precocious intelligence and learning ability. These people are exceedingly rare, so rare that most of us have never met one and never will. A far better and much more believable way to go about role-playing a "smart" character is to label your character "gifted". A gifted person is a much more vague term, though also not really scientific, that describes a much wider range of mental acuity than the label genius. Most of us living in the west have probably met several people that are mentally gifted at some point in our lives. In fact I myself was labeled "gifted" by my school and moved up from 2nd to 3rd grade - something that turned out to be a huge mistake in the long run - but I'm a far cry from a genius. As for role-playing gifted characters? This is entirely doable. My current main I label "gifted", and like real gifted people this doesn't mean she never makes mistakes or always has a snappy comeback the way a "genius" might. It just means that when it comes to reasoning ability she's above par, and that's something many of us are capable of at least faking reasonably well.
  9. I call these RPers "drama arsonists". I firmly believe you can attach any subject material to RP and as long as it's treated with the gravity and respect it deserves rather than a quick way to generate attention and a pity party for your character, then it can be done well. But if you set your own character on fire often and then have them bounce back to "full health" so you can set them on fire again I will cease RP with you entirely.
  10. We're still looking for members, so if you're interested in a long term plot that can introduce a lot of dramatic tension into your RP without being so overbearing that you can't do anything else, look us up~
  11. [OOC Information regarding company plot] Long ago an ancient voidsent, brimming with ambition, deceit, and hubris conceived of a scheme to climb the ranks of voidsent to new heights of power. To this end it sought powerful mortal souls to feed upon and grow in strength. Though it was too great to cross the aetherial sea itself, it sent its servants to do its bidding. The Burning Star Sign Using a power that is now known to modern mortals as "Astromancy", this voidsent used the sky as its canvas and drew an unholy constellation. Using this constellation the ancient evil binds the fate of mortal souls, so that instead of returning to the life-stream upon death they feed it, growing its power. How a mortal is afflicted by the Star Sign is not well understood. Proximity to those already afflicted, deliberate selection, or ill fortune could all play a part, or none. The Affliction Those afflicted may not realize anything is amiss at first. Perhaps they are more restless, more involved in their work, more likely to take a risk. More drawn to the idea of power, and more likely to pursue it for its own end. A strange dream of a burning constellation and an unidentifiable face will come and go. There may be other unknown subtle effects, all of which are worsened the more distressed the victim is. The affliction however becomes less of a burden relative to how many souls are afflicted. The more affected, the lighter the burden. It's been speculated this is a devious machination, designed to encourage its spread. After all, the more souls absorbed, the better. Afflicted that come in contact with one another often feel compelled to remain, with the reason why remaining a complete mystery. A Curse From the East Unknown in the west, this unfortunate fate is on the move thanks to the destruction of Doma and the resulting deaths of many afflicted at the hands of the Garleans. Though few in number are presently affected, that number is sure to grow.
  12. It's my favorite Heavensward related speculation~
  13. All of the Lalafell that are older by their own admission look the same as younger Lalafell. In my head-canon races that are not Lalafell cannot discern Lalafell age.
  14. For me, there's no concern regarding amount of RP, but I am wary of engaging with those who are vocal about caring about ONLY RP and don't care for the game itself. In my experience that sort of player quits anyway, so they won't be around for long term development. Edit: Lost the last half of my post. Trying to keep up with this sort of player can be very demanding too. I'll just play the game itself for a day and when I return, notice that a dozen developments have happened with this character while I was gone, for a single day. I guess for me that's "too much" RP, and it always seems to come from individuals who "only care about RP" and are not really interested in the game itself.
  15. Anyone know if there's a synopsis of the post 60 Ninja lore akin to this?
  16. They could be very dark Wildwood, you can make a very dark skinned Wildwood in the CC after all.
  17. They only have fur on the ears and tail, the rest is regular skin.
  18. I forget which quest talked about it, it might have been a seasonal quest? Anyway the WoL liberated some captives from slavers, it was said several of those captives were intended to be sold into sexual slavery.
  19. I'd be very surprised if your modern Gaelic names were exactly the same as their origin. My mother's maiden name is a good example of this, Galbreath being a mutation of Galbraith.
  20. I can accept French origin names without Elezen speaking French because of their geological proximity, usage of the same alphabet, and the fact that French and English are both romance languages that are very much related to each other. It's a bit harder to swallow the same thing for Domans because they are so distant, and because the naming conventions use Kanji, nor does English have a strong connection to Japanese the way French does to English. Doman names have meanings the same way Japanese names do. If there were no language behind those meanings the setting ceases to make any sense whatsoever. Now, we might claim that beyond naming the language is dead, but if the language was totally dead then the currently spoken language would have mutated the names as well. Yet the names are not mutated, they are names lifted straight out of 16th-18th century Japan. I can see it making sense if the language is in decline due to the Garlean occupation or any number of reasons, but the notion that it's totally dead or never existed in the first place frankly just doesn't make sense.
  21. On Rakka'li I totally roleplayed with the written dialogue.
  22. I lean towards believing that they do have their own language but it's also true that we have no proof for it. Honestly though it wouldn't make much sense if they didn't, but then again the fact that a nomadic culture that's existed for thousands of years never made it over to Eorzea in a meaningful way before 3.0 doesn't make sense either, but here we are.
  23. The naming conventions post features actual Japanese characters and translations of their meanings. The way I see it you couldn't have a very detailed and robust naming system that has a base in a solidly well defined and understood foreign language and ALSO have that language be completely dead in daily use. But no, we don't have anything to go on that suggests Domans speak anything but whatever Eozean's speak other that what we've extrapolated about the WoL. There's nothing that directly states they speak Doman.
  24. I just choose to ignore it because for me the world doesn't make any sense if it's any sort of common.
  25. She's the same height, body shape, and facial profile as the one in Mor Dhona, and has the same tail stub. Perhaps the comment was just unintentionally misleading. I dunno? Maybe? If not for the comment I wouldn't have thought of her as anything but a mysteriously placed Miqo'te child.
